Highly Recommend This Venue
The location off the bay is beautiful and the Marriott staff was amazing. It was such a great value for everything we were able have, especially when compared to other venues on Coronado Island. Throughout my wedding day, the staff continually checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The reception food was incredible and the chef modified the original menu to fit our preferences. The complimentary honeymoon suite was so nice and spacious. I would highly recommend this wedding venue. The location off the bay is beautiful and the Marriott staff was amazing. Had a wedding on 10/20/24
We had a wedding there this October on the 20th and prior to our tours in January, their staff Cathy was really professional and felt passionate about what she did. We were confident that Marriott Coronado would be able to handle our wedding of only 95 guests well since they are a huge hotel and with professional staffs at site. On the wedding weekend however, our check ins were all delayed, our family and our wedding suite were not cleaned and even upon us getting the keys to the room, some of the rooms still have dirty towels in the bathroom, and stains on pillow cases. Make us wonder what was the delay from the housekeeping that made us wait in the lobby for 3 hours even for because it looked like they didn't even finish cleaning. When we had the tour, one of our priority in choosing the venue is to be pet friendly. And Marriott Coronado was going to provide dog bed, some dog welcome gifts when we check in (that was what was told at the tour) but nothing was provided on the day of. Everything on the rooms for the day before wedding were reflected to the staff and they provided housekeeping again to rectify the problems (but shouldn't all these be better managed?) On the wedding day, every staff seems to look like they lack training and unsure of what they were supposed to do (very unlike a huge hotel who often does wedding). ON the day of wedding, there was so many other horror stories that included some of our guests not served their chosen plated meal (that was provided a month prior), and worst still one of my guest had a allergy and it was overlooked (when allergen list was passed to the coordinator way prior). We had a total of 10 guests that were no show and I can't believe that despite us paying for the full guests count, my guest who were there were short of their meals! They were severely understaffed too (to the point that our bartender helps with serving) and the line was long because the bartender has to help serve? I think thats ridiculous. We picked the hotel because of it's waterfront background, it is beautiful but if I were given a chance to rethink, I would rather sacrifice the look and have a smooth wedding that keeps my guests happy especially with the high price we paid. I've feedback everything to the head of events on email too as some of the problems like meals served and bartender running as waiters etc were only reflected to us after the wedding because our guests didn't wanna spoil our day. So beware to whoever is considering this venue...We had a wedding there this October on the 20th and prior to our tours in January, their staff Cathy was really professional and felt passionate about what she did. My Dream Wedding By The Water
As a previous event planner, I have an extremely high bar for event venues and staff. My expectations entail quality of food, attention to detail, and an elevated customer service experience. The Coronado Marriott Resort did NOT disappoint. The gorgeous waterfront views for both the ceremony and evening tent reception created an unforgettable backdrop for our wedding. People tell us 2 years later that it was one of the most beautiful weddings they had been to.
As a foodie, I was very particular about planning the menu and even happy hour appetizers. Chef and team were very accommodating and willing to partner with me to create a menu that we would love. The tasting gave us a glimpse into the day of, and they plated everything beautifully and it tasted delicious. On the day of the wedding day, we were sad to have been too busy to eat our whole plate because it was so yummy!
Lastly, I can't thank the team enough for all of the effort and care they put into making our dream so incredibly special. Every individual involved in the planning process to the event staff servicing the day of including bartenders, Banquet captains, to servers were extremely professional, warm, and hard working. Brides beware
I got married here back in July of this year. I originally was set to get married at La Valencia in La Jolla, but switched to this venue as la Valencia could not accommodate our wedding size comfortably, and our budget had changed. There were so many things that went wrong with this venue and if I could do it all over again I would never choose this venue. I made a huge mistake by switching from La Valencia.
Coronado island Marriott had told us they would work with our budget and quoted us an amazing deal, only to be upcharged for literally everything. Hollie the sales manager was nice but everyone else was rude and left us with a bad taste. Our catering manager Shannyn even left the venue and no longer works there.
At the tasting, the vegetarian pasta primavera was absolutely delicious and so flavorful but at our wedding it was the blandest pasta dish I have ever eaten. (I am a vegetarian, so I wanted a great veg dish). At the tasting it was a large amount of pasta with all different veggies, Parmesan, different seasonings and at the wedding it was cold plain pasta with a few different vegetables. So embarrassing to my vegetarian guests.
They went from charging $80 a plate to $150 a plate because we changed the chicken dish to a steak dish. (Salmon for fish, and pasta for vegetarian)
We had about 40 rooms blocked for our guests and at least 10 of those rooms were not ready by check in time, making us all over an hour late to our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. My mom, my grandparents, and guests from New Jersey waited in the lobby for an hour and a half before the hotel figured out their rooms.
They placed my grandfathers room all the way on the other end of the hotel when we specifically requested a convenient room for him as he is in a wheelchair and diabetic.
There was nobody directing anyone from cocktail hour to the reception - nobody knew where to go, so my mother literally had to direct people at the wedding that she paid so much money for.
The night before my guests began arriving I stayed up late with my in laws putting together our welcome bags and transporting them from Carlsbad to coronado only for at least 10 of my guests never to receive their welcome bag.
At my cash bar after party, the bartender literally tried charging me for a drink when bride and groom were supposed to be comped.
The staff is just so unprofessional it’s embarrassing to guests who pay a lot of money to stay there. Yes it’s remodeled and beautiful but don’t let that fool you.
While the honeymoon suite was beautiful, they would not give us a late check out which I find completely ridiculous to any couple getting married somewhere they should have their honeymoon suite the entire next day.
Now, coronado island Marriott wants to send us to collections for a ridiculously upcharged bill for over ten thousand dollars. As a lifelong customer of Marriott, I am so incredibly disappointed in them for the horrible service and horrible treatment we received after paying for a wedding of $100,000. Take your money elsewhere, but more importantly, you will have a much better wedding with better memories then these somewhere else. I do not believe the review under mine is from a real bride and there is a reason all the other reviews are from years ago. I should have known better. Don’t repeat my mistake! I’m not making this review because I am mad or to get back at them, I simply am posting this review because I don’t think any bride should have to go through what I went on her big day (weekend.)

Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa's reply:
Although your review presents a number of challenges, we respect your perspective even if we do not share in it. To that end, we trust and hope that loyal WeddingWire followers understand as in any review there are sometimes instances within a story for which there can be shared responsibility. That said, we are truly sorry that what may very well be the most important day in one’s life was far less than imagined and/or hoped at the onset. In each instance the hotel and its associates make every effort to deliver on a flawless event for which we could not be more sorry to read that this one became the exception. As indicated and though it may not ease disappointment, all other posts are certainly favorable and we trust illustrate our ability to deliver on a memorable experience to other WeddingWire couples. In the end and despite numerous failed attempts to settle this matter directly, we remain open to continuing discussions offline. In the meantime and regardless of what may or may not be resolved in the future, we warmly and sincerely wish you and yours all a blessed and bright future. -

The quality of the service for the price was laughable. When your venue costs around 200 dollars per person, I expect to have all of my reasonable requests accommodated. I expect if you tell me lights are included in the price, for you to provide lights and not claim you never said that. I expect tables to be where I asked them to be placed. I expect the food to be what I had at the tasting. Just because you're a beautiful venue, does not mean you can have such horrible service. I put professionalism so low for the several items we were promised or guaranteed that were not followed through on. Not to mention many of the staff was rude to our wedding guests. It's a wedding, people are having a good time, if that isn't something your hotel can support, you probably shouldn't host weddings. The quality of the service for the price was laughable. I was very happy with my experience at the Marriott over my wedding weekend. (We got married nearby, at Centennial Park and Candelas on the Bay.) I got two adjoined rooms so I would have enough space for all my bridesmaids to get ready together. Everyone I spoke to was helpful and accommodating of our special requests. Of course the bay and skyline views are amazing, location is excellent close to the ferry landing, and everything was clean and beautiful. The Sunday brunch is delicious. We just booked our venue here for summer of 2017. When I met with Kristina she was extremely friendly and accomodating. We were interested in booking something sooner rather than later and she drafted up an estimate for us on the spot. She offered us food/ beverages and worked with us to get some of the additional details that we wanted. I cannot wait to work with them even more. They treated us better than every other individual we met with to look at venues. We just booked our venue here for summer of 2017. Our wedding at the Coronado Marriott was fantastic and perfect, and I would have it here again in a heartbeat. We wanted an outdoor venue in San Diego, which is surprisingly hard to come by, so the skyline tent was perfect.
While it certainly wasn't cheap, you do get what you pay for, and you have to remember that San Diego weddings cost much more than other cities. Considering what other comparable venues charged per head, the Marriott is a great value! Plus, they include many additional things (the cake for example) that make it an even better deal.
The tent venue is gorgeous. You can't ask for a better viewpoint out on the water. Our guests were really wowed by everything.
Most importantly however, the Marriott was easy to work with. Ray was our contact, and he was fantastic. We planned our wedding from a distance, which made it harder for us, but luckily we were in good hands. We had some very specific ideas we wanted to do, and Ray made it happen. He was there the entire wedding and made sure it came off without a hitch. Our wedding at the Coronado Marriott was fantastic and perfect, and I would have it here again in a heartbeat. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was amazing! The staff was very nice and professional. We had an ocean view, and our room was beautiful. We ordered in food one night, and it arrived within 20 minutes! It was hot and so delicious - well worth the cost!
They provide parking for a high rate per night, but so does everywhere else in CA. Absolutely amazing! Couldn't believe how wonderfully they pulled off the reception. Ask for Indira as coordinator and Martin as a server. Both were fantastic! We had a bar/appetizer hour in the black swan room and the reception in the tidelands ballroom. We had a small number of guests (51), so both areas were a perfect size. The food was great, the service was even better, and they were great at making sure they packed everything up for me at the end of the night and took it to the concierge for me to pick up the following day. My guests had nothing negative to say about the whole evening. Would HIGHLY recommend!Absolutely amazing! Couldn't believe how wonderfully they pulled off the reception. The venue was perfect. The food was great and the tent at night looked right out over the San Diego downtown sky line. check it out, it's a little bit more cash out of pocket than we wanted to spend but it was worth every penny. And the staff was amazing all night! They took great care of every detail and us throughout the entire day. Ask for Ray Elicone, he was our organizer and really new how to make sure everything went off without a hitch!
