Amazing Wedding!

Choosing The Colony Club as our wedding reception venue was one of the best decisions we made. After getting engaged, we toured multiple metro and downtown Detroit venues with the hope of finding something elegant, classic, and timeless. Many were beautiful—but when we walked into The Colony Club, we immediately felt that this was the one. The entire style and vibe were exactly what we were looking for. We fell in love with every space—from Bar Charles to the breathtaking Grand Ballroom.
We were also impressed by how much was included without extra add-on costs: tables, chairs, food, liquor, signature drinks, and more. It made planning easier and helped us stay within budget.
From our very first meeting, we worked with Amber, our sales manager, and she stayed with us up until the week of the wedding. Amber was absolutely exceptional throughout the entire process. She was helpful, organized, flexible, and so easy to communicate with. We met multiple times at the venue, both with and without her, while making decisions for the big day, and she was always available to answer questions, address concerns, and offer thoughtful advice.
Amber took care of coordinating with our other vendors, and I never once felt worried about how things would come together. Even during the stressful week leading up to the wedding—when I was emailing and calling constantly—she was patient, reassuring, and truly amazing to work with.
Now the food… wow. It was exceptional! We still have guests raving about everything—from the appetizers to the entrées. The service and quality exceeded all of our expectations, and friends and family continue to tell us what an incredible wedding it was.
From our very first appointment with Amber to the moment our reception began, we could not imagine having our wedding anywhere else. We will always look back on our wedding day with so much gratitude, happiness, and appreciation that we chose The Colony Club.
If you’re considering this venue, trust me—you will not regret it!

Super Easy to Work with Venue

The colony club is a stunning venue. The ballroom stands by itself and does not need any decor. The colony club was super flexible and super easy to work with. Almost any idea we had they made it work. It was very nice to have a venue that also does the catering. The food was great and good sized portions. The staff were all extremely professional.

The best wedding venue in Detroit!

We truly could not have asked for a better wedding venue than the Colony Club. From the second we booked, the experience was effortless and so enjoyable. Taliah was absolutely incredible to work with. She was so personable, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire planning process. She went above and beyond for us, and even came to say hi on our wedding day, despite not being our day-of coordinator. That small but meaningful gesture really showed how much she cares.

On the day of our wedding, we worked with Nathalie as our on-site coordinator, and she was just as amazing! She made sure every detail was perfect and helped the entire day run smoothly. We were able to fully relax and soak in every moment knowing she had everything handled.

The food was absolutely perfect, delicious, beautifully presented, and raved about by all of our guests. It truly exceeded our expectations.

We couldn’t recommend the Colony Club more. The venue is stunning, the service is exceptional, and everything from planning to execution was completely seamless. If you're looking for a stress-free, elegant, and well-supported wedding experience, this is it!

Best wedding venue!

My husband and I selected the Colony Club for our wedding venue, and it did not disappoint. From our very first walkthrough, we were sold on the Colony Club’s beauty and booked it immediately. This venue was everything we could have ever hoped for, and the staff was amazing to work with. Taliah was our catering sales manager and is the absolute best. She was so easy to communicate with and made sure that all our questions were answered in a timely manner...and we had A LOT. She coordinated everything perfectly and made sure that everything leading up to wedding week was exactly what he wanted. Dylan took over as our venue manager week of and executed our vision flawlessly. Our wedding was everything we could have ever hoped for and more. They also did a wonderful job catering; the food was delicious, and the variety of choices allowed us to really personalize our menu. If you are considering booking the Colony Club for your wedding, do it...easily the best choice we made.

The perfect venue

The Colony Club is the way to go for your wedding! We had our ceremony and reception at the colony club and couldn’t be happier with the food, drinks, staff and the location. We only had 70 attend our wedding so we used the petite ballroom on the 4th floor. It was perfect! It is just as pretty as the grand ballroom but for our needs better. From the moment we toured the venue until we left after the wedding everyone was amazing! The Colony Club knows what they are doing! Taliah was our sales manager and was super responsive with any question or concern we had leading up to the week before the wedding. Then Nathalie took over and was there for our rehearsal as well as all night the night of our wedding. I never worried about anything that night, everything was handled and handled exactly how we discussed during our final venue walk through.
I received several compliments on everything from the food and drinks to the interaction the guests had with the servers. I’ve also been told multiple times that it’s the best wedding people have ever been to. But the real compliment comes from my great aunt who is in her 90s, and this well most likely be the last wedding she will ever attend… she said she felt like she was at a celebrity wedding, I’m so happy that we picked the Colony Club for that reason alone. They made everything run smoothly, if anything went wrong that night, I don’t know about it! The colony club is the perfect venue! I wish I could give more that 5 stars because it deserves 5 times that!

The Best Day Ever

Every staff member at the Colony Club was so kind. From the moment we reached out to the day of our wedding, everyone was very responsive, helpful and kind. We truly had the best day ever. The venue was gorgeous and accommodating and the food was amazing. Our guests said it was one of the best weddings they have ever attended.

Couldn't have been more perfect!!

Having our wedding at the Colony Club was an exceptional experience. The most impressive part was the service we received from our sales manager Amber, who was with us from our first tour thru our tasting and until our wedding day. Having a consistent point of contact was valuable in itself but Amber also was super responsive and helpful in coordinating details like our menu selections, floor plan, and vendor logistics. On the day of the wedding, the service staff was friendly, professional, and met all of our expectations. The food was delicious, attractively plated and received compliments from many of our guests. Of course the venue itself is gorgeous, but all aspects of the Colony Club and Forbes Hospitality made our wedding a truly premium experience.

The best wedding EVER!

Everything was AMAZING !!! Every single staff member in the building on Sunday was so nice and attentive to our guests! (they told us they enjoyed our event as well ;))

Taliah was great to work with!! As an out of state bride, she put up with all our questions, emails, and phone calls!

The night exceeded our expectations, and our friends and family members are saying this was the BEST wedding they have been to!!

Beautiful venue, lovely staff, great location

My wife and I were recently married at the Colony Club, and had an absolutely fantastic experience. It's a beautiful venue with a lovely staff; the in-house food is excellent (fun tastings, too), and the staff works very well with outside vendors. The newly renovated cocktail spaces are fantastic, and the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. Special thanks to Jaime, who worked with us through the entire planning process and regularly touched base to ensure everything ran smoothly! We're still receiving compliments on the location, and we honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Historical Day

All the staff was awesome at the Colony Club. We had the day of our lives. Samantha Sant was awesome to deal with, answered all our questions and was open to anything we wanted to. Event Managers were awesome too. Can’t thank them enough about what the have done. Thank you everyone

Perfect wedding

I had my wedding yesterday at the colony club and I would like to share my experience.
At first I was a little nervous, because I had read from other reviews that the air conditioning was an issue and the food was not that good, thankfully, in my case that couldn’t be further from the truth!!!
I worked with Alexandra Wendland for the planning and Nikki Kamienski for event coordination and I couldn’t be more happy with how things turned out!
Our food was delicious (several guests complimented the food) and all the items were set up beautifully by Nikki and I never felt like I was not being taken care of! Nikki is an awesome wedding coordinator and is always willing to help; Alex is also great and everything on the contract was executed to perfection, ladies, you rock!
My wedding size was about 91 people and I can honestly say it turned out perfect!

Beautiful Detroit Wedding Venue

BEST wedding venue in Detroit! When my husband and I got engaged we both thought our wedding reception would be at my parent’s club which would have been beautiful, but we still wanted to look around at other venues to make sure we were picking a venue that was truly us. When I walked into the Colony Club third floor ballroom I got a feeling that this is where our reception should be, and my husband felt the same way. From the floors (we loved the wood floor since a lot of reception venues are carpet) to the ceiling (I absolutely loved all the gold) to the Chivari chairs to the food (we served filet and crab cakes and people could not stop raving) and to the amazing staff (Lauren was an awesome sales coordinator and Clara was a great day of) everything was PERFECT!! It meant a lot to my husband and me to show our guests downtown Detroit, since a lot were from out of town, and have our wedding reception in a truly historic building. I can not recommend the Colony Club enough. Everything was perfect, and Lauren at the Colony Club was there to make sure all of our needs were meet and even exceeded. If you are looking for a historic Detroit venue with an immense amount of character look no further. Our photos will truly be timeless with the gorgeous background of the Colony Club.

Excellent! Would recommend

We had an amazing experience with the Colony Club - especially our sales manager, Lauren Kirk and event manager, Clara Kay. Lauren answered all of our questions leading up to the wedding super quickly and made us feel like we had everything covered. She was also super friendly :) Clara was so prepared for the rehearsal and day of. She really went above and beyond to pack up our stuff at the end of the night (even though she didn't have to) and put out all the little fires the night of so I didn't even notice them! We can't say enough about how great both of them were! And, the space itself was absolutely beautiful, the food was delicious and the planning process was as easy as it could be :) We loved how they included a doorman, coat check, linens, tables, bar tenders etc. so our decision making was minimal! Definitely worth the cost :)

Dream Venue

I could not say enough good things about the Colony Club. The appearance, the food, the staff - all of it was absolutely incredible! We've received SO many comments about how stunning the ballroom was and how delicious the food was - especially the appetizers! lol I know the main course is most important, but when you have hungry guests, cocktail hour is also important!

As far as the staff goes, we worked with Samantha Stant to make sure every detail of the wedding was perfect, then we had Molly Ellenberger as the coordinator the day of the wedding. They were both extremely helpful. Samantha helped get everything set in place and Molly helped execute!

I'd choose the Colony Club over and over again for our special day!

We just had our wedding on the 4th floor of the Colony Club and we cannot say enough amazing things about the staff and the venue. First of all, the staff from day one was incredible. On our big day, Bertha did such an incredible job of making sure things went smoothly and we are so happy we got to work with her. Before Bertha, we worked with Sam and she too was absolutely fantastic in planning the event.

On our big day, my only concern was the fact that it was on the 4th floor and that space can be somewhat limited. We had about 100 people and with needing an elevator to go up and down, and also the restrooms on another floor, I thought it may be an issue. However, this is NOT the case. 100 people fit in there perfectly during our cocktail hour and of course during our reception, the elevators were super fast with a wonderful attendant, and no one minded the restrooms being on another floor at all. We had so many compliments on the lighting and the wonderful scene that the Colony Club set for us, and it truly was amazing. Oh and the food - WOW. It was incredible. You have to at least check out the Colony Club and I promise you won't be disappointed!

When we first visited The Colony Club, we were afraid it was out of our price range...I thought about booking our wedding there for about 6 weeks, all while pricing out other venues and let me tell you... for everything that is included when you book your wedding at The Colony Club, it is a STEAL and seriously WORTH EVERY PENNY. First, the ballrooms are breathtaking. We had our wedding in the 4th-floor petite ballroom because our guest list was relatively small, and the gorgeous crown moldings, art deco archways, and chandeliers took our guests' breath away. You hardly have to spend anything extra to decorate. The room rental includes high-quality linens and gold Tiffany chairs (which almost no one else includes), a premium bar and DELICIOUS menu options. Our wedding sales manager, Lauren, was very helpful and quick to respond. She delivered everything we asked for. The onsite team, including the lovely Rachelle, was a dream that helped with set up (and everything looked exactly as I had imagined) and coordination of everything from the rehearsal to the day-of timeline to wrapping up the dinner I was too excited to eat to making sure I always had a glass of champagne in hand :). If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. If you are contemplating hosting your wedding at The Colony Club, DO IT and DO IT NOW!

This place was truly a ballroom from a Disney movie! It was breathtaking the day of our wedding. The place came out beautiful. The food was excellent. The staff was friendly. The bartenders kept the drinks pouring all night long. This place is extremely expensive but when you have your wedding here you will not be disappointed. It is perfect. Everyone still keeps telling me how much they loved our wedding. Please get your wedding here and if you do invite me!

Our wedding day at the Colony Club was perfection. We had our ceremony and reception for approximately 100 guests on the 4th Floor and could not be happier. The venue is stunning and the staff is amazing. From our first meeting with them to the final load out, they were nothing but accommodating and professional. We did not have a wedding planner or day-of coordinator because the Colony Club takes care of everything. It was also a huge help that they package everything together for one per person price - ivory linens, gold chiavari chairs, gold table numbers, beautiful furniture in the bar area, premium bar, late night snack etc. The fact that we did not have to make a lot of these individual decisions really helped keep stress at bay and made our wedding planning process easy. Our guests raved about the venue and multiple people told us it was the best wedding food they had ever had.

The 4th Floor Ballroom at the Colony Club was one of the only venues in the metro Detroit area that was affordable and accommodating to a somewhat smaller wedding. Because of the size of our guest list (about 100 people) we were priced out of most venues because the minimum spend was so high. The 4th Floor is the perfect size for less than 125 people.

Everything was beyond perfect. Every person we dealt with was amazing and so helpful and friendly. Lauren and Nicole always answered questions in a timely matter. Bertha was the day of coordinator and was absolutely amazing. Everything looked perfect the day of and we were beyond happy. After touring the Colony Club, my fiancé and I knew it was where we wanted to get married. The third floor ballroom is so elegant and the amount of upkeep they do to the building really shows - it is flawless. Everythjng about this venue is really a well oiled machine. We had both our ceremony and reception on the third floor and our cocktail hour downstairs. I worked with Lauren during the planning process and Bertha was our event manager for our wedding. Both of them were absolutely fantastic. I am an event manager myself so I am probably more OCD than most brides and communicated with Lauren quite a lot leading up to my wedding but she never showed any annoyance and always responded to my questions in a timely manner. Bertha was such a joy to work with on our wedding night and checked in with us just the right amount. She never let me have an empty drink. We received compliments from our guests on the professionalism and great service from the Colony Club staff and all around its just a very elegant venue. There is the potential to have two weddings at the same time here - one on the third floor and one on the fourth floor. I was a little worried about how that would work but I really didn't even notice the other wedding. I've read other comments about it being really hot here in the summer and I'd actually disagree. This is something I was worried about too and it ended up being about 95 degrees the day of our wedding. I danced all night and was definitely sweaty but not any more so than I would be if I danced somewhere for three hours in great AC. One of our guests did make a comment to us about it being hot, but I didn't think it was too bad. I'd highly recommend this venue and Lauren/Bertha to anyone looking for a beautiful place to have their wedding!

I am in awe at our experience with the Colony Club for our wedding reception location. I am smiling just typing this because of the incredible experience we had. The wedding was absolutely perfect, right down from the planning with Lauren who accommodated all of our specials needs, to the staff who provided very prompt and friendly service. Concerned about the food? Don't be, it was amazing! Bertha the event manager especially took care of us the whole night, what a wonderful lady she is. And then there's the hall itself.. it's breathtaking. I am not exaggerating, I have not seen a more beautiful venue. The tall glass windows and decorative walls and ceilings, I felt truly like a princess on my wedding day. It was everything I hoped and dreamed for. All of our guests had an amazing time and the temperature of the room was perfect. We had a winter wedding so I'm not sure how it is in the summer but I cannot speak more highly of our experience. Truly the best day of our lives. Thank you Colony Club!!!

My daughter's wedding was 10-31-2015. It was magical and truly gorgeous! Thanks to Ashley for the remote planning with our daughter who lives in England, but wanted a wedding in Detroit. Thanks to Judy, our fabulous event manager, who made sure things went perfectly, and modified on the fly as needed. She was perfect! We could not have done it without her. Our guests felt so appreciative of the beauty that surrounded them and the wonderful food (we got many compliments). It was an elegant classy wedding that also felt friendly and cozy, despite the upscale venue. Thanks also to the rest of the staff who did a wonderful job of serving, bartending, and meeting our needs! You will not go wrong to choose the Colony Club for your wedding!

Our wedding was in November 2015. Overall, the Colony Club experience was as close to a fairy tale as you can imagine... You will be taken care of with no issues whatsoever. Service was great! Dinner was not as spot on as we remembered from the tasting (apps were delicious, thought), but overall everything was amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! We worked with Lauren throughout the planning stages and had a last minute change of Event Managers to Melissa. Melissa was very sweet and great, frequently checked in on us to see if we needed anything. Alan kept our glasses filled throughout the night. Thank you for an amazing night!

I fell in love with the Colony Club the moment I saw their website... Such a beauty venue! I live in North Carolina currently but the Colony Club did an amazing job with working with my schedule and helping me plan an amazing wedding remotely! Lauren & Nicole were so responsive with emails and really helped out so much! The Colony Club employees are all so professional and really care about amazing service! My wedding was on the 4th floor and it was an amazing back drop for my ceremony and reception! The day of coordinator was really helpful with the timing of the ceremony and making sure things flowed well during the reception. It was the perfect place to host our Downtown Detroit wedding that my husband and I dreamed of :)

My husband and I were just married at the Colony Club this past Saturday and we could not have been more pleased. Everything went absolutely perfectly and the service was impeccable. They made sure everything was as we wanted it to be and the staff was incredibly professional and precise in setting everything up. Our guests commented us many times on the venue and how great the service was. The waiter for the head table was awesome. He brought us more drinks before our drinks were even halfway gone and kept mine and my husbands food warm while we were going around greeting our guests. We could not have been more happy with the way things went and would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a place to hold their ceremony and reception.

I am so happy with my decision to have my wedding at the Colony Club. The 3rd floor ballroom is absolutely stunning, it doesn't need a lot of extra decorations. I worked with Lauren and she was very professional and timely. The planning went well, especially since I was an out of town bride. The actual wedding day went very smoothly. We had both our ceremony and reception there. Many of our guests complimented the food. While it is on the expensive side, I do believe it was worth it (also, the minimum covers nearly everything, such as taxes and gratuity, whereas I found other places may not include these in the minimum). I also love the location, especially since many of our guests had never been to Detroit. Highly recommended!

The Colony Club was AMAZING. I worked with Nicole for the booking and planning process, she was prompt and easy going to making my visions come to life. My day of coordinator was Bertha and she was a saint. Honestly, the whole event went smoothly because of the professionalism they exude. Also, the fact that venue is just beautiful and well maintained helps out a lot too!

The night of the wedding could not have been any better. Bertha (day of coordinator) was unbelievable! Her staff was incredible as well. The room was perfect and service was fantastic. We received and are still receiving compliments! I know there are a few reviews that complained about the air but we had 150 people in the 3rd floor ball room on a hot/humid August day and had no issues.
My only complaint is working with Nicole and her staff leading up to the wedding was not a good experience. The communication was terrible when working with the two Lauren's and it got to the point that we were only dealing with Nicole (the manager) at the end of the planning process. There were multiple instances of 'misinformation' and not getting back to us to the point we started to feel taken advantage of, a very scary feeling when you are planning your perfect day.
All that being said, I wouldn't of had it anywhere else because the room and day of staff was that fantastic.

No use to look anywhere else, the Colony Club is the best place to have your wedding. 3rd floor ballroom is absolutely beautiful and everyone was floored with the service and beauty! It is worth every penny you will spend, I promise! Alyssa is the best, and all the other staff is kind as well. Request Judy to work your day and you will love her, the reception went perfect!

Amazing venue! Beautiful gem within Detroit with a very elegant feel for an event. The service was exceptional from the wedding coordinators to the staff at the wedding. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a classy wedding with enough space to fit over 250 people comfortably.

The colony club is just stunning! We did have hesitations because of the price, but in the end it was so worth it. The entire staff we worked with from the first meeting up until the night of the event were so great. Judy (one of 2 banquet managers) even called me from her cell phone and told me to call her anytime! They were accommodating to our inquiries and requests and responded promptly.

The venue is just so beautiful and unique. As the other reviews say, our guests were stunned. We had our event in the 3rd floor ballroom and the balcony on the mezzanine level is such a great touch. We did our "king and queen" entrance from there and I really felt like royalty. Our friends were seated up there and even though it seems a bit removed, they loved it! We also had a jazz singer (Ben Sharkey) perform during dinner and the banquet managers insisted he set up upstairs. I wanted him on the main floor and really tried to make it happen, but they insisted. They really knew what they were doing! It was like out of a movie when he started performing from the balcony. People were eating dinner and didn't notice at first that the music was live, but when they did they were so enchanted!

We did have a larger wedding (almost 300) so just know that it does get tight. I insisted on having a mix of long and round tables (note: there is an extra fee for long tables as they don't own that many) which took up more room than if I had just done all round. But, our dance floor was a little small. They say they can hold 400, but I wouldn't go over 300 unless you are just having cocktails.

Our wedding at the Colony Club was absolutely perfect! Everyone we worked with, from our sales managers Lauren and Nicole to our Banquet Manager Bertha were incredibly attentive and wonderful to work with. A number of guests even told us our meal was not only the best "wedding food" they have ever had, but one guest even told us it was the best meal she has ever had anywhere. We were so impressed by the entire staff and cannot thank them enough for such a perfect night!

Our wedding at The Colony Club was amazing! The overall experience was wonxerful. JUDY was running the show and we were beyond impressed! The staff was very professional, from start to finish. It is a historical building that has the original decor to it. The 2 story grand ballroom is a true beauty! Our guests had a wonderful time. We feel very privileged to have a part of Detroit history in our wedding. Thank you to all involved on our special day!

The Colony Club was the perfect venue for our wedding! Nearly a year later, we are still hearing compliments from our guests! From my first phone call with Nicole until the end our wedding reception, the staff was extremely professional, helpful and accommodating! Nicole and Allison did a fantastic job. They were always positive and answered my many questions and concerns. Even though I requested a speciality cocktail only a week and a half prior to our wedding date, Allison ensured that the staff was prepared to make it for our guests.

We have a special thank you to Judy! She was the event coordinator the evening of our wedding and saved our wedding flowers when the arrangements on candelabras began following over (our florist got stuck in traffic with the Tigers game and couldn’t make it back in time to fix the arrangements). As soon as I walked into the ballroom Judy was right by my side to tell me what happened and that she had to modify them so they would stay up. Without her, I may have had my one any only “bridezilla” moment. From start to finish Judy was fantastic with everything! She kept the night moving and my husband and I on track! Thank you Judy!

The food was excellent! The chef even had the head waiter ask me if the vegetables that I asked be seasoned for all of the guests meals were as I had expected. And they were!
At the end of the evening the staff had cleared off all of the tables and boxed all of the items that were taking back with us. Although I had put a family member in charge of this, it was nice to know it had already been done.

The Colony Club is a beautifully restored building perfect for a wedding and the staff is fantastic!

Not only is the venue amazingly beautiful, the service & professionalism of the Colony Club staff is absolutely second to none. Judy, Nicole, Alison and the entire staff made the day perfect. I've had several guests comment on how pleasant and helpful the wait staff was. As the mother of the bride, I was actually able to enjoy the party knowing that every detail was being handled perfectly.

Everyone at the Colony Club was fabulous to work with, leading up to the wedding and on the day of. Very responsive and helpful in answering all questions. Everything on our day went perfectly. The on site managers and door security ensured everything went smoothly. All of our items that we brought to have setup as well as all of our cards and gifts were gathered / boxed up by the staff and ready to go so we had zero stress at the end of the night trying to gather things. The bride and grooms rooms upstairs are great, they brought snacks and drinks to us. The food was amazing, we got so many compliments on the food. And the building itself is absolutely gorgeous. Everything was perfect, you can't go wrong with the Colony Club!

Nicole & Allison did a great job with our wedding! I didn't think I could find what I wanted in Detroit for my wedding but we were overwhelmed with how wonderful the venue was! My husband and I were literally left speechless when we saw Colony Club all done up for our wedding :) Colony Club as a venue sells itself, its absolutely gorgeous! From the marble & hand painted entrance way to the spiral staircases and most amazing ballroom it will be sure to stun your guests like it stunned ours! The staff was always there to answer our questions and did a wonderful job accommodating our needs and requests! The food was wonderful and the staff was very attentive to our guests' needs! Judy and Bertha, the banquet managers, were such sweethearts and made sure our wedding was stress-free and took care of everything! The staff even helped clean up all our decor items after the reception! We have nothing but GREAT things to say about everyone at Colony Club and the venue itself!! After almost a year of planning it was amazing to see my husband look around in awe and turn to me to say "wow, this is the most amazing evening of my night and this looks like a fairy tale!" You will do yourself a HUGE favor booking Colony Club, they will take care of you like royalty!! :)

This venue is absolutly the BEST! The service while planning the wedding was wonderful and the service by the banquet managers and staff the night of was over the top! If you want an absolute perfect wedding the Colony Club is your choice. From the booking of the night through the end of the reception, they are so detailed and professional, making everything look so easy. The food was excellent and the venue is gorgeous. The managers on site during the evening (we had Judy and Bertha) conducted the evening with precision. Allan was always there with any need that you had and William was humorous and had personality plus! Most brides have one specific thing that went wrong and I can say our night was spectacularx

I couldn't have imagined having our wedding at any other place than the Colony Club. The food was outstanding, the building was breathtaking and the service was top notch. My husband and I held our wedding reception at the Colony Club on October 14, 2011! It was absolutely the perfect reception venue! The Colony Club is gorgeous. The staff are friendly, professional & responsive. They allowed us to have bubble tea at our cocktail hour. They allowed me to come in a day early to set up some things for our picture table, etc. The food was fantastic! Couldn't have asked for a better venue. Thank you Nicole, Alison & everyone at the Colony Club!!

The Colony Club set the tone for the Detroit wedding I had envisioned. The building is an architectural gem that needs little to no extras when it comes to decor. We chose our date based solely upon their availability, so we put a lot of faith in the good reviews we had heard. With that being said, the service went above and beyond my expectations, from the day I booked it, until the last guest had left. I worked with Nicole, Allison, and Judy and they were amazing - they made sure that every detail was attended to in order to make sure the day was perfect for me and my husband. The food was incredible and I just couldn't be happier with the entire experience. My best advice would be to book early knowing that it will be entirely worth it!

Like the other reviews, I would definitely rate the Colony Club much higher than PW is letting me (10 out of 5 is more like it!)! They provide A+++++ service! All of the employees are very competent in what they do, even the fantastic doorman!!! I especially appreciated all of Nicole and Allison's help during our planning process!!! They were more than willing to help me with whatever I needed help with, and answered all the my questions in an extremely timely manner!!! I could not have asked for better service! Not only is the venue strikingly beautiful, but the food is AMAZING!!! And for the great price the Colony Club is in a league of its own! Our guests complemented us all night on how beautiful everything was and how amazing the food was (and the great bar selection!)! I could seriously go on for hours about the Colony Club! Thank you Colony Club for making our wedding the most memorable day of our lives! We could not be happier on how the day turned out!!!

If I could rate this a 6.0 I would! This venue is unexpected and truly a cut above the rest. I had my ceremony and reception at this location and everyone who attended was take with the venue. The Colony Club was the most important aspect of our dream wedding day. The building itself has been restored to its former glory and is absolutely exquisite. The ballroom, mezzanine and lobbies are all so beautiful and really made our wedding unique and elegant. Nicole (who also does events for the Gem Theater) made all of our planning so easy and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. The food (catering through the Century Grille) was so good we didn't stop hearing about it. But more so, the staff was amazing. Nicole and Dawn worked so hard the week leading up to the wedding and the day of that I never worried about things not working out. The wait staff was so attentive and made such a pleasant atmosphere. I can't forget Steve, the amazing coordinator, that helped us with our rehearsal and had our entire ceremony run as smoothly as a Broadway show (his specialty)! All in all our entire experience with the Colony Club far exceeded our expectations and I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a unique place to get married in Downtown Detroit.

If you want a fairytale wedding in a breathtaking location than the Colony Club is the place for you! It is truly a diamond in the rough (of Detroit that is). We were recommended this place by my sister who had gone to a wedding here a year before us and I am sure glad she did! We could not have asked for a more beautiful location. The place is so beautiful that it needed little decoration. It was one of the higher priced locations we looked at but it was well worth it. Lauren G, Lauren K and Nicole L were absolutely amazing and beyond helpful. On the day of the wedding, Bertha was a saint!! She made sure my husband and I were taken care of and were having the time of our lives. The food was exceptional too! Everyone has told us how it was some of the best food they have ever had at a wedding. I had the filet Mignon and it literally melted in your mouth!
It has been a few week since our wedding and we still have people tell us how much in awe they were of our wedding and how it was one for the record books.
I can't thank Colony Club enough for making my fairytale wedding a reality (and i definitely can't wait for my wedding photos!)
P.S The only Caveat I had here was that they made you take out EVERYTHING that night. We had a lot of DIY decorations that we had to remove that night instead of being able to come back the next day to pick up. It was just a nuisance especially when you leave late, have been dancing all night and then have to lug several loads of heavy things into the car.

The Colony Club was absolutely amazing. When planning our wedding we looked at nearly every venue in Detroit. The moment we walked in, we knew it was THE PLACE!! The main ballroom is absolutely gorgeous and their new 4th floor space (where we had our ceremony) fits in great! I cannot say enough good things about the staff. The sales staff were so patient with (and quick to respond to) my millions of questions during the planning process. The staff the day of was on top of everything - it all came out perfectly! We did the grand package and the food turned out wonderful - definitely recommend those chicken wings for cocktail hour! Overall, the Colony Club helps make our day amazing.

We had our wedding at Colony Club on 4.28.12... from the moment the wedding party walked in the door we were welcomed by staff and escorted to the brides and grooms room which had champaign, wine and apps waiting (all before the 5:30 start time of cocktail hour). Both banquet managers made sure to check in with us during the night and we were confident that everything would go smoothly (which it did). Allison was great to work with in planning and made every accomodation possible to make sure we could see the venue again, and again, and again, as we planned for the big day. Two drawbacks we found: First, we paid for a meal for a guest who couldn't make it so during dinner I asked for it to be packaged to go, so we could enjoy later. This never happened. I'm not sure if I needed to ask earlier? Second, we paid for three bartenders (one on the mez which didn't get any traffic so he was closed down) however, instead of move him to the two bars in the ballroom they just dismissed him. Our drink lines got to be pretty long at one point - which was the number one thing we wanted to avoid - so after the groom requested twice they finally moved the 3rd bartender to help out with the other two bars. Yet, overall, we couldn't be happier with the Colony Club, it is beautiful, the food was great and the service is top-notch. Thanks to all who helped us execute a perfect day! :)

Dream wedding!

The Colony Club has been my dream wedding spot for years and I never thought it was possible due to the price. Once I started comparing their pricing to others in the area, their all inclusive packages just did not compare to anyone else and they offered so much more value. They are not only professional, but are extremely helpful in keeping you on track with planning and take the guess work completely out of the question. I have people telling me still that it was the most elegant and glamorous wedding they had ever been to and everyone felt like royalty with the service and the amazing food! The cost of this venue is worth every penny!

Not only was the Colony Club a stunningly beautiful location for our reception, but the staff and coordinators were wonderful, friendly, and very accommodating. The food was delicious, and the service was almost entirely without mishap. The only downside was that they would not allow our floral arrangements to be stored on-site the day before, which would have greatly helped with our original DIY intentions (we ended up finding a wonderful florist last-minute who was able to arrange and deliver the day of). All said, we could not have imagined a more perfect venue for our wedding reception. Highly recommended!

The colony club was awesome from start to finish with our wedding. Guests loved the food, service was great for both bridal party and guests and the venue is beautiful. They let us bring in our own pie and ice cream for dessert without charging extra (the pie was pre sliced).

The one draw back was we paid extra for an additional bar tender upstairs, even though we knew she wouldn't get as much traffic. We were concerned about the size of the downstairs bar with only one bar tender at each. Predictably, the upstairs bar was not as busy and the bar tender was not pleased to be up there. She was unfriendly toward guests as a result.

From the moment I saw the ballroom at the Colony Club, I knew it was the place I wanted to have our wedding and reception. I was a little nervous at first, as the sales agent I booked with left the company shortly thereafter. There were a few bumps in the road on the way—first, they only can accommodate tastings on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, no exceptions. My husband does not have a very flexible work schedule and we live in Chicago, so it was very difficult to attend, but we ended up being able to work things out. Also, like a lot of venues, you can get just about anything as long as you are willing to pay for it. We had them order specialty liquor (Pisco), which was expensive, but most venues will upcharge you. Despite this, I still gave them 5 stars because although it is on the more expensive side, they were really on top of things on our wedding day. Molly, our day-of coordinator, did a great job. We had both our ceremony and reception in the 3rd floor ballroom and the room flip was ultra efficient and seamless. We had so many compliments from our guests about how stunning the venue was and how wonderful the food was. The waiters are really attentive—I had 3-5 guests not inform us of food preferences or intolerances beforehand, and the chef accommodated everyone (vegan, gluten free, no shrimp, etc). Both parents tables and our sweetheart table had personal waiters who took impeccable care of us, bringing us drinks/food/cake the entire evening. The Colony Club really did a fabulous job and I would recommend them without hesitation.

Beautiful Wedding Venue

The Colony Club is a wonderful venue for a wedding reception, with exceptional service. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Amber from the day we toured the venue, to the day before our wedding. Nathalie and Amere were excellent coordinators and banquet captains. Our guests loved the food and drinks, and the Grand Ballroom is a stunning room. I would recommend The Colony Club for a wedding.

We are so happy that we hosted our wedding at the Colony Club, it was an unforgettable day! The day-of service was impeccable with Coordinator Judy and all of the wait staff. They did an amazing job coordinating set up with all of our vendors and things ran seamlessly. Our friends and family raved about the food, which was very important to us. The only ting I was not crazy about was the heat- boy was it hot! We had a late July wedding and although the AC was on full blast, everyone was sweating pretty badlly! However, with the big picture in mind- everything was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing!

We had a phenomenal ceremony and reception at The Colony Club - it photographs beautifully. The food was also great, the staff was extremely helpful, and overall we felt that they every effort to accommodate our requests and prepare for our big day. However, it is an old venue and that comes with some compromises. One of the elevators was out of order for our wedding, forcing some of our guests to take the stairs. Additionally, the television in the groom's suite wasn't working at all and there was a significant delay in providing snacks to the bride and groom's suites before the ceremony. We were compensated with a complimentary wine pour for all guests, which does speak to how attentive and customer-service-focused the staff really is. Throughout the planning process they made an effort to consider our budget and work around our constraint, we never felt like they were being judgmental even though we were trying to stick to the minimum spending amount.

When I found the Colony Club I was so excited to get married here. It's totally breathtaking inside and exactly my vision for what I wanted. When we stated working with Alyssa and Nicole it was difficult because we live in Illinois but were getting married in Detroit. I found that there was no flexibility for the food tasing that the dates they have are it. So even though we are living in a different state and couldn't make it into town on a Tuesday or Thursday it didn't matter you either made it work or sent your family for your food tasting. That was frusterating. They were very responsive via email and phone and always responded back quickly. The day of the rehearsal was great. We had Bill as our coordinator that day and he was AMAZING! We totally loved him and he was so helpful. He helped direct us during the rehearsal and setting up my tables etc that night. THen on the day of the wedding he fully directed our vendors, the actual ceremony and dinner. One bummer was that during our final meeting we told Nicole that we wanted a certain case of beer and paid extra for that and on the day of the wedding it was not there. This was paid back to us. Additionally, they ended up cutting our top tier of our cake and serving it even though I did ask to have it boxed up. They also reimbursed us for this in order to allow us to order an anniversary cake from our Bakery again. All in all it was a good experience with some hiccups along the way. I would recommend them but only if you live in Michigan. Outside of Michigan it was a real hassle.

Buyer Beware!
Although the Colony Club is a first-class venue I will tell anyone that is planning an event there to make sure you get everything you want in writing and constantly remind your sales person of these requests. We specifically asked for two items, BOTH were spelled out in our contract and in our floor plan diagram and NEITHER one was done on our wedding night. Nicole the Managing Director said that it was OUR FAULT for not bringing it up with our senior sales manager (which we did numerous times). The event manager even agreed the night of the wedding that she was short staffed and couldn’t do what was requested. So… This became OUR problem, not theirs. You will love the setting and the food but execution to simple request outside of their “standard labor guidelines” don’t happen and then you get called a liar for asking for them.

Up until the day after the ceremony/reception, everything was very good. The Colony Club is pricey but they did provide very good service. It is a beautiful venue, the food was very good, and the wait staff and staff in general did a very good job, up until the day after the wedding. BUT..at the end of the reception, we asked about the flowers..should we take them with us? We were prepared to do so and we asked the individual in charge of our wedding. They referred us to another individual; that person very clearly told us that the florist was going to be picking the arrangements up the next day, they would be held for her. So we assumed we could pick up the arrangements from the florist. Since the bride and groom spent the night in Detroit, they checked in the next day at the Colony Club to make sure the florist had picked up the arrangements. By 1:00 the next day, the Colony Club staff had THROWN AWAY all the floral arrangements, about $2,500 worth of flowers. The new bride and groom went to the dumpster and found them…they were stunned. Turns out the bride on the on the first floor requested her flowers be thrown away…certainly not what we had wanted. The Colony Club refused to take any responsibility, we were told they were "doing us a favor". After speaking with several staff, a call from the boss/owner was promised. He never called, we just received another email stating that the Colony Club wasn't responsible. So the moral of the story is…you can't believe what the Colony Club staff tells you. Better dig into the Wedding Book on the website, because that is what takes precedence. It would have been a great experience if the bride hadn't been crying at the dumpster the day after the wedding.

Do NOT book a summer wedding at the Colony Club as the air conditioning is horribly inadequate. It does not matter how good the food is or how great the service is or wonderful the space is - if your guests are hot, sweaty and miserable.

Just had my daughter's wedding reception at the Colony Club. When we visited in December, we were very impressed with the beauty of the facility and the professionalism of the staff. But the event was a disaster. How can you advertise that you can accommodate events of over 200 people, yet when 110 show up, the air conditioning just can't cope? It was only in the mid-80's, a very average summer day. The event was ruined because our guests melted in the bar area waiting for the dinner to start, and the ballroom was not much better. Apparently the wonderful chef who sold my daughter on the place didn't show up, so the fillets were over-cooked. The staff was very apologetic, but couldn't fix it. Any place with working air conditioning would have been better, and most places were half the price. Don't consider the Colony Club for a summer wedding.
