Best wedding photographer!

Colin was absolutely incredible! We had a very long wedding day, around 15 hours, and he was present for every part of it, with a smile and jokes, even offering very affordable pricing for such an extensive event. From the very beginning, he was personable, responsive, and always available whenever we had questions.

His knowledge of Chicago is unmatched, and he brought us to some of the most beautiful and even lesser-known photo locations with stunning views of the city. Despite our huge family and a very tight photography schedule, he handled everyone with so much grace, patience, and professionalism while still capturing amazing shots.

His entire team was phenomenal as well. They captured every special moment throughout the day without ever feeling intrusive or in the way. We truly could not recommend a photographer more highly. Colin absolutely crushed it, and we are beyond grateful for everything he did to make our wedding memories so special!

Fantastic Experience!

Having a great photographer was high on our priority list, and we could not have had a better experience than what we got with Colin! We felt very at ease with him from our very first zoom meet and greet/info chat and I knew I would be comfortable having him around the entire day of the wedding. Our engagement shoot was so fun in downtown Chicago, and we figured out a way to include our pup (who quite frankly stole the show) while also getting some incredible pictures along the river. Colin joined us at the final venue walkthrough to get to know the space and we had a scheduled call the week of the wedding to finalize picture locations and schedule for the day. Every detail was covered and it was very reassuring. As for the wedding day, Colin was supposed to be with us for 10 hours but ended up coming early and staying late, consistently calming my nerves about the weather and even made me an espresso because I finished getting ready early.. Our guests loved the photo booth and the group shots we took throughout the evening. The second photographer Jim even followed the groom to Target and snapped some pictures while he bought a new belt since he forgot one while packing. Colin and his team were the absolute best and I’m so happy we chose them for our day!

Downtown Chicago Wedding

Colin Lyons Photography was a dream to work with for our wedding.

Colin was such a pleasure to work with from the beginning, until the end. Starting with our engagement shoot, he really took the time to get to know my husband and I, and even brought our dog a toy for the shoot. He spent 4 hours with us and the pictures turned our AMAZING. Throughout the planning process, Colin was communicative and easy to work with, he also came to our walk through with our planner to make sure we were aligned for the day of the wedding.

The day of the wedding Colin and his team were timely and super easy/fun to work with. He made sure we got all the shots around the riverwalk and made us feel so comfortable on our special day. He was extremely personable, and so many of our guests commented how great he was. He was super efficient and organized when it came to family photos as well, which could have been stressful - not with Colin.

He even helped us get THE SHOT with our dog the day of the wedding. Colin ended up staying well after his "contractual" time, and truly is a gem in the wedding photography world.

Simply the Best!

Hiring Colin to shoot our wedding was one of the best decisions we've ever made! From our first conversation with him, we knew he was the right person for us. Hilarious, down-to-earth, professional while still being incredibly personable - what more could you want? We were instantly comfortable and couldn't wait to work with him.

Leading up to our wedding, we had multiple conversations to review the shot list, photo locations, and what was most important to us in terms of photography. Colin listened, provided so many helpful ideas and created the perfect schedule for us.

Day-of, Colin and Jim were simply the best. They make everyone feel comfortable and at ease, like we're all just hanging out together at the best party ever. They kept the wedding party on schedule, chatted it up with everyone, and caught every single important moment while somehow blending in to the background. Knowing they were there took away all my anxiety about getting the photos I wanted, and Colin served as a much-needed source of comfort and comic relief throughout the day.

Finally, receiving our pictures was one of the best parts of the post-wedding months. The photos are STUNNING - exactly what we wanted to make the memories last forever. If you want to make the bride happy...

My fiancé and I placed the highest priority on photography. Wedding festivities typically span one day, but a photograph stands the test of time as a lasting legacy and memory.

When planning, we wanted a photographer that not only knew how to take family pictures and posed bridal party lines. We wanted someone that could bring out the best in us and our guests to feel comfortable around the camera. Someone who knew the right moment to capture the best candid moments. See beauty in the simplicity of an alleyway or bridge girder. We wanted a photographer that could capture a story and not just a simple “prom pose”.

My fiancé and I met him at a friend’s wedding as part of the bridal party. He was always cheerful and trying to capture the guests’ best and sincerest moments. Even after the bridal party’s photo shoot under a bridge line, he helped the bride by cleaning her dress’s train that had become dusty during the photo session. We immediately knew how committed Colin was not only to his work, but also the bride and groom. Did I mention? He also studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and has continued to promote education forward in photography. We needed to snag his skills as quickly as possible!
Colin takes the time to know the couple, their personalities and fun quirks. We had negotiated a package to include an engagement shoot, wedding photography, and photo booth.

Although, with most 2020 weddings, our initial plans had been interpreted due to COVID. Despite the hit to the wedding industry, he was very willing to accommodate and work with us.

Once local restrictions started to uplift, we planned an afternoon engagement shoot. Colin has a wide array of experience working with many cultures, styles and sizes of weddings in Chicagoland. He knows the best nooks, spots, and city highlights. After being stuck in quarantined pajamas for several months, my fiancé and I had the best date! We finally had the opportunity to dress up, feel fancy, and get the butterflies flying right before our big day. Colin always found a way to make us laugh and bring out our inner genuine charm. He spent the entire day with us with no hesitation. We traveled to 4+ spots and he did not even blink with my confusingly indecisive and picky requests.

When it came to the wedding day, he was very accommodating to all the last-minute changes given constantly changing COVID protocols. He not only came early, but also left later than expected, waiting patiently until all the festivities were over. He worked tremendously well with the videographer (a separate vendor we had hired) and would guide with respectful instruction as to what was “next”. He even assisted the videographer if he needed an extra hand or visual eye. Of course, for many of our groomsmen, it was their first time participating in a wedding and did not know how to put on their boutonnieres. Colin right away herded them up and showed them the magical way of “the two pins”. And of course, since the church’s air conditioner broke, he survived an incredibly hot day with no complaints despite some quests passing out. He even printed out several fun poses/ideas I had previously shared with him as a guide for group and bride/groom photos. He even sent us a sneak peak of our photos just a few hours after the festivities!

Short summary - just hire Colin. Your expectations will be reached, and more.

Wedding Photographer

Colin Lyons is amazing! We had him for our Chicago wedding at the Blackstone hotel. We did our rehearsal Friday and he showed up to take pictures of that also! He did a wonderful job keeping the schedule on track. We traveled to the art institute for pictures and he had the best photo ideas. He was fun and kept us stress-free. He brought his photo booth and it was such a hit! I would definitely recommend Colin!

Colin is the man. If you're looking for a photographer who is going to personalize your photo experience and make things fun and easy, then he is your answer. Colin shot my brothers wedding a few years back, my wedding this past summer and my maid of honors wedding this past fall. He is professional, kind, flexible and honest. I would recommend him highly to anyone looking for top notch photos and top notch service. Photography for a large, significant event can be nerve racking. Chicago's best photography!- Colin Lyons

I cannot speak highly enough about Colin Lyons. He was a joy to work with for our engagement shoot and wedding day. He made the trek with us to South Bend, IN for our shoot on the first weekend of January 2019 (read BLIZZARD). The photos were absolutely stunning! On our wedding day, Colin was a peaceful yet direct and fun-loving presence, who was able to wrangle our 20+ person bridal party for all of the perfect shots. From the traditional portraits to some fantastic artistic shots, we are so pleased with our decision to work with Colin. He was there with us the entire day, and truly knew the timeline so well that he was able to assist in all of the transitions with our planner. The Photobooth with an attendant that he also provides was a hit with our guests! The photos are beautiful, fun, and lively action shots of our guests that they could email immediately ( a great touch! ). We also loved the second shooter, Clay, who truly felt like a friend enjoying our day with us while capturing so many moments. Colin will capture the essence of your day

While I asked Colin to photograph our 50th Wedding anniversary - it was more like a small wedding event as we had DJ, dinner and dancing. I met with Colin and while I thought I knew what I wanted, Colin advised me to do more natural shots vs. just the standard table shots - and wow - he and his assistant captured our night with unbelievable photos. Colin really caught the essence, elegance, family focus, friendship and love and fun of the night. The photos are amazing........ Everyone who have seen them are blown away. Colin has an exceptional eye - he is truly an artist. He will capture your night like no other photographer I have seen. Best wedding photographer ever!!

Colin and his team made our wedding day unforgettable! Out of all our vendors, he went above and beyond, delivered perfection, and really was committed to the work. Truly – I cannot say enough good things about Colin & his team. I would hire him for any event – he is a true professional, artist, and friend!

Colin met with us twice before the wedding just to get to know us and understand what we liked. He was proactive with emailing and responding. He was very organized and a dream to work with. More than that – on the days of the wedding, his team made our wedding INCREDIBLE!

As the bride, I spent more time with Colin & his team than anyone else on my wedding day, and he and his team are hilarious and so helpful. Even when times could be stressful, Colin would be there to run my keys to my mother, or let me know where my husband was; he was not just a photographer but everything we needed!

For the photos themselves, both my husband and I do not enjoy having pictures taken of us, but their whole team made it feel natural and unbelievably fun! He was a true artist – at times my husband and I wanted to call it quits, but Colin saw opportunities for great shots (running in and out of traffic to get them)! He organized his own car to make sure that he would be able to travel around with us through Chicago. He really is an artist!

Just Book him!

Colin is a pro, and his team is wonderful. We hired Colin for our very colorful wedding and engagement shoot. My Husband and I had a very unique vision for our wedding and engagement photos, and Colin was not in the least bit overwhelmed with our non-traditional vibe. He is a class act and comes prepared for whatever your wedding day throws at you (rain! & Hair/Makeup Delays/ pop up photographers). We knew we will look at these pictures forever and we wanted the best, paid for the best, and got the best! Also, an online mag contacted us to use our engagement pics.... just sayin' lol. Colin in so incredibly talented and fun to work with - and the photos are stunning!

Colin was absolutely wonderful to work with and really listened to what we wanted for our photos. He was working incredibly hard all day long (I swear I did not see him take one break) and even stayed longer than we originally planned. The photos turned out absolutely stunning - I highly recommend looking at his main website for samples. Also - a very quick turnaround time! He sent us a couple sneak peaks the next day and only took about 2 months for all of them. The website they are on is beautiful and organized and it's so easy to share the link with everyone. If you want amazing wedding photos with someone who is incredibly easy to work with, look no further than Colin Lyons!
We reached out to Colin after viewing his photos online, and met with him over a year before our wedding at his studio downtown. He pulled out a bottle of champagne as soon we arrived, and let us look through his albums (digital and print) while talking through his process. We booked right away for our 9/8/18 wedding and we're so happy we did!

Originally we hadn't planned on getting engagement photos, but Colin included them in his package and we thought they would be good practice. We got great photos and had a lot of fun, even though it was cold and snowy outside. Closer to the wedding, I reached out with our list of photos we wanted to get and to talk through a rain back-up plan, and Colin responded immediately suggesting we connect the week prior to the wedding to confirm and touch base on everything. He had great suggestions for a rain back-up, and totally put our minds at ease.

The day of the wedding he arrived at the hotel where we were getting ready with the second photographer, Jordan. Everyone loved him and Jordan and they were great about working around our hair and make-up team and all the others coming in and out of the room. They fully coordinated our first look which was perfect, and helped to make sure we stayed on time for the rest of the wedding party and family photos. Colin included a photo booth at no additional cost for our wedding (a big hit), and brought another photographer to capture those photos. Throughout the event I barely noticed them there, and he was great about timing our 'sparkler exit' photo so that it didn't kill our dance floor.

In addition to being relaxed and easy to work with, Colin sent over a preview of our photos the night of the wedding. They are AMAZING, and we've received so many compliments on how perfect they are. We can't wait to see all of the photos captured on our special day!

Hands down our favorite vendor!!! Colin met with us a few times so that by the day of we felt totally comfortable! Colin and his team we’re fantastic!! We did our engagement photos and wedding photos with him and he did not disappoint. He has such great imagination for his photos! We did our engagement photos in Chicago and he took us to so many great places starting at the art institute in Chicago and by the lake. Our wedding was in the suburbs and he did such a great job with more “rural” type photos. We had our wedding in December and although it was freezing, he and his team made it so much fun. I could not be happier with how the photos turned out. You will absolutely not be disappointed if you choose Colin.

Colin did a terrific job with our wedding! We were probably a bit more camera-shy than many couples, and Colin was great at making us comfortable without being cheesy or off-putting. Colin was extremely responsive and communicative throughout the process, and the day-after preview he sent us was a nice unexpected touch. Colin was the absolute best. He photographed our reception at the Art Institute - they have different rules/regulations about when and where to take pictures and he was well-versed and got several stunning photos in the gallery, outside (despite the frigid temps - he got some great shots in under 5 minutes), and throughout the evening. He was quick in getting us our gallery, incredibly personable and would recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone. I hope he will do pictures for us again in the future!

Colin and his team were absolutely amazing! Our family and friends can't stop talking about the pictures and how good of a job they did. Colin helped plan out the schedule for the day, made time to take my wife and I for an engagement shoot prior to the wedding and even brought along a 3rd photographer to work the photo booth and get some extra shots. Colin is an artist in which you can feel safe letting him do his job. Which means you don't have to be a model and pose to have a great picture. Instead you can enjoy your wedding and he captures the story throughout.

Our story started with our engagement shoot. I love photography unfortunately my husband hates getting his picture taken. Colin has the persona to make people feel comfortable. He took his time and knew just the right places to take the city shots. He gets to know the couple which I appreciate as everyone is interested in something different. I happen to love architecture of Chicago and Colin incorporated that in our pictures. We chose to add the rehearsal dinner to our package as I knew I would be getting pulled in all directions the day of the wedding. He sent a team member as he couldn't make it and my guests loved him and invited him down for dinner with us. Although only 2 hours he captured the love and happiness of the weekend. No detail was missed from the menus to the food served and the guests enjoying themselves. It was important that my pictures told a story.

Our wedding was in October 2016 which happened to be the World Series and game day here in Chicago with our Cubbies. Although the city was crazy busy Colin took us around town and we felt we were the only ones in the city. Capturing some great shots without the crowds. And the final product looked awesome! I was beyond excited when we received our pictures. It made it very tough to pick just one picture for the thank you card.

Our wedding was on Sept. 26, 2016 and Colin and his assistant did an absolutely wonderful job. He was great at organizing everyone and capturing all of the essential shots, which could not have been easy, but most importantly, he captured the beauty of our wedding. There were also some specific shots I wanted and despite the craziness of everything, he remembered to get those. A couple other things - the photo booth, our guests had such a blast with that! And, the engagement photos... We had so much fun travelling around the city, taking photos. Colin is great to work with and I would suggest him for any wedding!

Colin was WONDERFUL and one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. We had a beautiful engagement shoot with him, where we were able to go to multiple locations where many photographers limit you to one spot and a short time frame. We loved how relaxed and fun Colin was, and given we would be with him all day for our wedding, it was important that we felt at ease with our photographer. We loved the pictures we got from our wedding! There were so many beautiful candid moments Colin was able to capture which meant so much to us as well as perfect 'mom shots' that were more formal. Coming from a large family, Colin was able to wrangle the bunch together to capture probably the best full extending family photo we've ever had. At the end of the night, my new husband and I were able to look at some photo highlights that we already had in our inbox from Colin. It was so amazing to see so quickly! We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Colin for your wedding. You will not be disappointed.

Colin was an amazing photographer and was one of the best decisions we made while planning our wedding. A friend of mine used Colin for her wedding and I knew right away that we needed to book him because her photos were absolutely beautiful. From the first time my fiancé and I met with Colin to talk wedding logistics, I know he would capture all the best details of our big day. From the moment he walked in to take the "getting ready" photos, to capturing the fun on the dance floor, Colin caught all of my favorite moments. We found Colin via an internet search for engagement photos. Colin spent several hours with us running around the city and taking photos at numerous locations. Colin made it so easy for us to hang out and be natural in front of the camera and it showed in our photos. I wanted to have pictures of us being natural and un-posed that would reflect how we normally look when around each other- and that is what I got.

After that day and upon receiving our photos, we knew we needed to have Colin shoot our wedding day. Colin was wonderful. He kept the bridal party on time and moving even though that clearly wasn't his job. He helped ensure I didn't worry about any of that stuff. There are moments from our day that naturally I missed but have heard about from numerous guests. When I got the pictures back, those moments were all in there. I was able to relive all the fun. He also has an awesome photo booth that he can set up!

The pictures are all sharp, professional, and wonderful. The only problem I have is that there are so many good ones to choose from. If you are getting married in Chicago, I definitely recommend Colin and his team!

Colin was an amazing photographer who we would highly recommend!! From our very first meeting we knew we wanted to have him as part of our day because of his friendly personality and how clear it was that he absolutely loves what he does. His sense of humor the day-of was especially helpful because the beautiful Spring day we had in mind turned into snow, sleet, and 50mph winds- he made it fun, was flexible in changing plans for shooting locations, and seized every opportunity with the brief periods of sunshine we had to take amazing photos. He takes so many photos to ensure he gets the best shot and we have no doubt they will be amazing (especially since he showed us a few shots throughout the day). The photo booth was also such a great addition to our reception- so much fun! We are so happy we had the chance to have him capture our day.

Colin was simply amazing--and so were his photos. Our wedding was out of town, on a Saturday; Colin was already booked for the Friday night, but he was able to schedule us in by agreeing to fly out morning of (texting us multiple times with updates throughout his travels to avert any worries). He was extremely engaged and responsive from the very beginning, and helped us start to think through the whole process (early!) which was invaluable in terms of organizing and feeling calm day of. He understood exactly how to capture the mood of the venue and event--he took beautiful photos of my husband and me, of our families, of the ceremony and flowers, and got terrific candids all the way through to the final dance. We've had multiple people tell us that they are the best wedding photos they've ever seen. We couldn't be happier--Colin was the best choice we could have made for our photographer.

I recently was married last month and hiring a good photographer was a top priority for me. Luckily I didn't have to do much research because my venue coordinator suggested Colin Lyons Wedding Photography. Unfortunately Colin Lyons had another wedding to shoot on our wedding day so he set up a meeting with one of his associate photographers Christie Caputo. From the very first meeting Christie was a dream vendor to work with. She was so down to earth, professional and wanted to make sure that she really understood what special moments me and my husband wanted captured on our wedding day.

On the day of our engagement shoot Christie made us feel so comfortable and suggested so many beautiful places to take our engagement photos. She went above and beyond & even stood in a few bushes to make sure that she could capture the picture from just the right angle! I had so many people asking who my photographer was after I posted our engagement photos... Christie really is that talented.

Colin Lyons is hands down one of the best decisions we made in the wedding planning process. He was so easy to work with and such a nice guy - not to mention he's extremely talented. We hired Colin Lyons to shoot our engagement photos and our wedding day. And he delivered amazingly on both accounts. The engagement shoot was the perfect way for us to get to know him and vice versa. It also gave him a chance to understand the types of things we wanted from our pictures for our wedding day. During the planning process he was very responsive, always answering our questions and helping us plan our day of wedding photo schedule. Colin and his entire team were great the day of the wedding and perfectly captured every moment of the best day of my life. He helped corral our families to get the family formals done quickly so we could get back to our cocktail hour and our guests. He also made sure to capture great candid photographs of all aspects of our wedding - from cocktail hour to late night dancing. And his unique photo booth setup was a hit with all of our guests - from both the quality of the images to the fact that we had the complete set of photos the day after our wedding. We got so many compliments from our friends and family on the quality of our final photos - Colin did a great job retouching all our photos and picking out the best from thousands of photographs that he and his assistants took that day. Colin is the best!! First of all, from the very beginning he has been super easy and flexible to work with. He is professional and quick to respond to emails and texts. We first met him in the city to discuss his style, what we wanted, etc. We loved him right away because he wasn't pushy about upgrading packages/signing a contract and didn't seem to "solicit" his company like some vendors do. He was also very flexible in finding a deal that worked for both of us. We obviously loved his portfolio and loved him after meeting with him so we signed our contract shortly after that meeting. We then scheduled our engagement session, which my fiance was less than thrilled to do. Colin was awesome though at just capturing moments and not making the session awkward. Once we got those pictures back we were even more excited that we chose Colin because our pictures were beautiful!! We were so happy we did the session also because we got to know him before our wedding day and really see what his style was like. Then came our special day. I had a very tight schedule since we had a church service on a friday and did not do a first look beforehand, and I also didn't have a day-of planner. However, we had a skype meeting a few days before and talked about important items that I wanted to make sure were captured. Colin was very organized and direct with the wedding party when he needed to be to make sure we stayed within our time frame and to make sure we didn't miss anything that was important to us. He made the day run very smoothly! Finally, came the day when he sent us our pictures. WOW. We were blown away by how amazing his work is. I could look at our pictures everyday..if I had the time to look at 2,000 pictures everyday.. because he captures EVERYTHING even when you think something was missed! If I could describe Colin in a few words I would say: chill, fun, organized, and bestphotographerever. Definitely go with Colin Lyons Photography!

LOVE LOVE LOVE everyone at Colin Lyons photography. We had great fun at my wedding, the pictures were awesome and I recommended him highly ENOUGH!

FLEXIBLE! I was preggers at the time when I would've have our engagement shoot so he suggested we add the hour to our wedding instead.

FAST! we had a photo station at the wedding and people could email their photos to themselves or post on facebook immediately! I also got the complete set of images from the photo station within 2 weeks.

PROFESSIONAL! on the day of the wedding he and his assistant were ready to go- I was running late. He took no time to take advantage of the time my bridal party and I took to getting ready and shot detail shots of my dress, flowers, accessories, etc. By the time we were done a few shots of us and poof on the trolley we went- on schedule. He also directed the whole day, gave directions to the trolley chauffeur, set up shots and looks which the videographers from FIG MEDIA (another great company) followed and were able to get great video footage.

GOOD TIMES! A great photographer and his staff should be able to make their "subject" feel at ease. In this case 22 people. YES, we were all obviously at ease and having a great time.

I'm sure my marriage is forever and won't be need Colin's services again- BUt I will recommend, recommend. or maybe we'll fly him out to Mexico for our 5 year or 10 year renewals in 4 -9 more years. I think he'd approve.

We could not be happier that we found Elena at Colin Lyons Photography to photograph our wedding. Colin is truly a great artist!! I loved his work so much that I booked my wedding date based on his availability. I want perfect pictures for the wedding day and I know Colin is the one who can deliver. We had several meeting and countless emails and phone calls before the big day. We coordinated everything from Chicago, and he arrived in New York a day early for our wedding, just so he can take a look at the church and plan out the timeline for pictures the next day. If I had to recommend one wedding vendor that people must use, it would be Colin Lyons! He captured our wedding perfectly and was so much fun to work with. Colin
captured every small moment and detail of the day, even the fleeting ones that lasted only a second. My wife had tons of picture requests to get throughout the night and Colin got them all.

Colin is clearly passionate about his work and has so much fun doing his job. He made us comfortable throughout the day and made it easy to get such amazing wedding shots. On top of that, his experience shines through in his suggestions, his ability to keep the day moving, and obviously the pictures! Colin even went the extra mile and pushed our trolley driver to make one more stop to snap some incredible pictures. I've had multiple friends and guests tell me the pictures really captured the emotion of the day. Another even said they wished their photographer was as good as him!!!

We met with Colin multiple times before the wedding and always felt like we were hanging out with a friend. He makes you comfortable and takes your ideas seriously, even the strange ones, and offers his suggestions. We never felt rushed or pushed to do anything we didn't want. I came across Colin's work on Facebook, as he did some weddings of acquaintances from high school. I contacted them, and they all had positive feedback. I then scheduled to meet with him, and he was so flexible and listened to what we wanted. He got to know us as a couple and was the most reliable/responsive wedding vendor I worked with(and since he is documenting our day, this is kind of a big deal!)
He excels in his field, and having our pictures taken every second seemed so natural/not as if someone was constantly there. He was also great at bringing out our silly side (I love that he had music readily available as I was getting ready and super nervous!!
His other shooters were also phenomenal! Last but not least, he worked very well with our videographer, whom he has never met before. They helped find the perfect locations to take our couple shots & I simply cannot say enough about him! I can't wait to get our pictures back!
PS... his photobooth was a total hit!! My friends loved that they could instantaneously email the pictures to themselves & upload to Instagram/Facebook.

It has been over month and we are still hearing about how much everyone enjoyed our wedding. We know that our wedding would have been nothing without the support of such an amazing “team”. Part of that team was Colin Lyons Photography. From the start we knew Colin was the best choice for us. After our first meeting there was no need to meet with any other photographers. Colin is not only a wedding photographer but also an artist and great manager of large groups i.e. my big Italian family. We grew comfortable with Colin during our engagement shoot, which pictures turned out beautifully! Then three days before the wedding he met with us again at our venue to go over images we hoped to catch. We had a modest wedding budget but early on we wanted to focus on getting a good photographer for our wedding. My fiance and I wanted the photos to be memorable and to really stand out. Colin Lyons was recommended by our wedding planners and we couldn’t be any happier with him! He’s very personable and it’s hard not to get along with him. He even recommended us a fantastic DJ! If you look at Colin’s portfolio, you can see he goes the extra mile to make your photos look unique and genuine. Even if you don’t consider yourself “photogenic”, he’ll still bring out your best features. The colors in each photo you get are vibrant and he makes great use of Chicago’s gorgeous architecture. During our wedding day, he brought over a photobooth that took excellent high quality pictures at no charge.

During our engagement shoot, it rained pretty heavily. Colin said we could reshoot on another day at no charge which was very very generous of him to do. He was sent out a DVD copy of our photos for convenience as well.

A lot of my guests came up to me and said that our wedding was one of the best and I know that Colin Lyons helped us achieve that compliment. Photos are your keepsake of that special day and it goes by so fast, invest the money and go with this awesome photographer. He’s considered to be on the pricier side but I’m telling you, he’s worth every dollar! Book him ahead of your planning schedule because he’s in high demand during wedding season.

Colin was hands-down one of the best wedding vendors to work with. Our initial meeting went so well that we decided we didn't need to meet with any other photographers and we booked him soon after. Colin is extremely personable and professional. He responds promptly to all of your emails and offers an opinion when you ask him for advice, something many wedding vendors shy away from doing for fear of disagreement.

Further, his photos are absolutely stunning- a reflection of his talent and passion for photography. We have received so many compliments and often hear how the photos look like they belong in a magazine. His style is so fresh and unique. He scouted our wedding location ahead of time and found some beautiful and interesting settings. This was also helpful because it was the middle of March and helped save time and keep us warm since he had a game plan ready to go. For our engagement shoot earlier in the year, we were equally impressed. He knows the city so well and when we requested an urban vibe for our shoot, he knew the perfect spots to take us to around the loop. He truly know how to capture beauty in the most ordinary of places. On the day of our wedding, we spent more time with Colin and his assistant Christie (also fabulous!) then we did with our own families-- not a bad thing since they were a lot of fun to hang out with!

Oh and can't forget to mention the photo studio. Our guests loved it and had never seen anything like it before. He has iPads set up so you can immediately view and email yourself your favorite pics. So much better than those photo strips! I remember at one point thinking all of our guests had left our wedding early, only to find out that everyone was in the foyer waiting in line for their turn in the photo studio!

On multiple occasions, viewers of my wedding photos bring up phrases like "magazine quality". Here are few of the reasons that made hiring Colin one the best decisions we made:

-- Colin and his team are incredibly flexible. We had a Mehndi/Henna event the day before the wedding. Due to a contractual typo, the Henna artists showed up 2 hours late to the event. Colin was more than understanding of the situation and stayed an extra two hours with no issues.

--Colin and his team are extremely organized. We were worried about how long taking official family portraits the day of the wedding was going to take. However, Colin had a well organized setup and layout and he shuttled all family members through in a timely, and friendly fashion. The location he scouted prior resulted in amazing family photographs.

--Colin understood how best to capture the crucial moments of the wedding. After dinner was over and the main dances were finished, he pulled my wife and I aside and conducted an impromptu photo session of just the two in various locations of the wedding event venue. These are some of the best photos for the entire wedding and help us remember that first and foremost this event was about my wife and I.

Colin was the best throughout the entire wedding process! We worked with him for both our engagement photos as well as for our wedding photographer and we were absolutely blown away with the results. He was extremely responsive to questions and concerns, he provided his recommendation and also had some referrals for other vendors as well. He and his team showed up on time the day of the wedding and were so easy to work with throughout the day - we never felt staged or uncomfortable and in a few cases did not even notice they were there! The actual photos themselves were exactly what we were hoping for - he captured all the important events throughout the day wonderfully but all the in-between moments were so great as well. They were innovative and fun but also had so much of the happy emotion that my husband and I, our families, and our guests experienced that day. The value you get with Colin goes above and beyond the actual photos - he took the time to scout out locations ahead of time to find the perfect fall trees as well as back-up options in the case of rain. We also took advantage of his "photo booth" set-up which was such an awesome experience for us and our guests and captured so many additional fun moments and memories! I would highly recommend Colin and his team to any brides-to-be!

Colin is the BEST photographer around!!! He did an unbelievable job capturing our wedding day and did a wonderful job doing an engagement shoot for us as well. During the shoot he made sure to take us to locations that meant something to us, no matter how far he had to travel. Colin is not only there to take pictures on your wedding day but he is there to make sure everyone is having fun. He brought a photo booth with him to the reception that was absolutely amazing!!! It was the biggest hit of the night. My husband and I have recommended him to everyone we know. All of our guests continue to rave about Colin.

We chose Colin as our photographer for our wedding this summer at the Chicago History Museum and we could not be happier with our pictures and every step of the process working with Colin. Colin has an amazing eye for the most beautiful shots and we were so impressed with how he was able to capture different moments. We were thrilled with how many pictures we had to choose from and how we loved each of them. Honestly, the hardest part was choosing which ones to include in our book and to frame. Not only is Colin an extremely skilled artist, he was very easy to work with. From the early planning stages to the days leading up to the wedding Colin was quick to respond to questions and always very helpful. The day of the wedding, Colin was very organized in helping us to coordinate taking pictures at multiple city locations and in being able to coordinate a large bridal party in making the pictures look polished but still natural. Elena Bazini (an associate of Colin Lyons) did such an amazing job capturing our November 10, 2012wedding day. My husband and I (plus both of our families and all our friends) are just thrilled with the pictures she took. Elena was easy and fun to work with. She made us feel comfortable and had such great ideas for our pictures! Even though I was planning a wedding from out of state, Elena made it easy for me and worked around when I was available. She met with my mom and I the week of the wedding to go through final details and make sure she knew exactly what we wanted. Elena and her assistant Erin worked so well together. They were even great at corralling lots of people for big family pictures! Looking at the pictures is such a wonderful reminder of what a great day it was, what a fun time we had, and how many special people were there with us. Even in the preview Elena sent me, there was not ONE picture I did not love. I would recommend Elena to anyone who wants amazing shots of their day. If I had to do it all over again, I would book her instantly! The next time I need beautiful pictures of a special event, I plan on calling Elena.

In planning our wedding, my wife and I decided we wanted to hire the best photographer as we considered this an extremely important part of our special day. In reading reviews from others/websites and meeting Colin, we decided that he was our guy! My wife and I are laid back and fun which meshed well with Colin's style!

From the initial meeting to the engagement photos to the actual wedding day, Colin did a phenomenal job! We were impressed with his talent, creativity, demeanor, and ability to bring out the best in my wife and I during the shoots. His assistant did a fantastic job as well and it is nice to see a team on the same page. We loved that he surprised us with sparklers at the end of the wedding for a fun end to the night. You just feel very comfortable with him and his team and it makes the whole wedding that much more fun and crazy!

The photos themselves were amazing as well as the slideshows he put together. We are so excited to complete our wedding books and would love to have Colin do shoots for us in the future!

We highly recommend Colin and could not have made a better decision for the best day of our lives!

My wife and I hired Elena at Colin Lyons Wedding Photography for our wedding, and she did an amazing job. My partner and I recently had our civil union wedding at the Drake. Colin and his team complimented our day with doing all of our pictures and really they were everywhere. We had Colin and his assistants photograph our wedding in Oak Brook and we were so happy with everything! I had friends who said their wedding photographers annoyed them or were bossy or cheesy so we were thankful that we had such a great experience with collin! It was like having (very talented) friends come to the wedding and photograph us, and they really helped me feel more at ease during the more formal shoots. We just got our pics back last week and everything was captured so beautifully. I was a little sad after the wedding was over because I felt like I didn't have enough time to talk to all my guests, so it really meant a lot to me when I saw the pictures of my friends and family having so much fun at the reception. It was like reliving it and being able to see the action this time! Colin also made a beautiful slide show and included our first dance song and the song we entered into the reception with, so it made it even more special! Colin and his team are the best, I would recommend them to anyone!

My wedding was 4 days ago and I don't even have my pictures back yet, but I can tell you hands-down that I would hire Colin Lyons again to shoot my wedding. Colin is awesome. He puts you at ease in a second, definitely knows what he is doing, has awesome suggestions for shoot locations and angles, and is so fun to work with. You can hardly even tell he's there, he's that good. He made our wedding day. He also made our engagement shoot awesome. He spent 8 hours with us on engagement shoot day and 12 hours with us on Wedding day. You definitey get your money's worth with him. He has a great eye for a beautiful shot and we can't wait to get our pictures back beause we know they will be amazing. His second photographer Matt - was PERFECT. So high energy, kept my groom from forgetting his head (and the rings!) and couldn't have been a more fun or nicer guy. I would recommend Colin a million times over and can't say enough good things! Colin is the most incredible photographer I have ever worked with. He goes way above and beyond what I've seen other photographers do and his demeanor is professional yet casual enough to not make you nervous or have the feel that there is always a photographer around. He produced some of the greatest pictures from our engagement shoot to the final pictures at the wedding. His turnaround time on the pictures is super fast. He is a pro at capturing the moment and his assistants are also great at what they do. I had asked Colin for some extra pictures of the city to assist with our wedding invitations and without hesitation, he took the pictures and had them back to me in 2 days. It's the little things like this that make him a wonderful photographer. His responsiveness is excellent and there was never a time when I had to wait for a response from him. I simply can not thank him enough for all he did to capture our day. He was so much fun to work with and I would recommend him to anyone I know (even clients... I'm in the biz).

We received so many compliments about our wedding photographs and it is all because of Colin and his amazing talent. We knew when we met him we did not have to search for another photographer. We knew we made the right choice in photographers and it was an easy decision after meeting him. We had such a positive experience working with him and Elena. He was very professional, responsive, easy to work with, and most of all you could tell that he loved being a photographer. The photographs were exactly the ones we wanted to have -- unique, artistic, fun! We loved how he scoped out wedding photography sites before hand and took charge on our wedding (as we requested) to ensure we would get amazing photographs. Having him as a photographer made our wedding day less stressful because I knew we would get great wedding photos. He truly captured every emotion and detail of our wedding. Our wedding photos were amazing-- we are having a tough time picking our favorites because we honestly love them all!! We loved that our wedding photos were unqiue to us and different from other weddings -- unlike other photographers who do the same poses/locations for all the weddings they are hired to do. We just got our wedding pictures back from Colin, and wow, it was like reliving the day!! Our pictures all turned out exquisite! Colin and his 2nd photographer Elena were extremely fun to be around all day and made the picture process easy. I don't think we could have been any happier with our photos. They are unbelievable and exactly how we want to remember the day. Colin even will send you a slideshow to music of a sample of your photos, a web-host site of your pics to order, as well as a disc with ALL of the shots he takes (which is alot!!). I recently had the opportunity to have Colin Lyons as a photographer for my engagement shoot and wedding ceremony/reception. One word describes Colin - the BEST. Colin is the absolute best in all categories. I'll start with the obvious - his photography skills. Colin is a high-end photographer and his work shows it. Colin is creative, is a genius at capturing the emotions/feelings of feelings of the day, knows the perfect details to capture, and does the perfect editing to create photography that is absolutely breathtaking. My husband and I could not be happier with the work that Colin has done for us. We are so lucky to have found him. Secondly is Colin's professionalism. One thing I never realized until the day of my wedding is that you want a photographer who is unobtrusive, works well with your videographer and other vendors, but yet is still able to capture the beauty of the day. Colin excelled at this. I didn't even realize Colin and his assistant were around - but they were everywhere capturing just the right shots. Colin knows how to work with vendors to ensure he does not interfer with the video footage, and he knows how to allow you those special times with your guests without being 'in your face'. Colin lets you just do your thing and captures that in amazing photography. Cost - you know you get what you pay for, right? That being said, sure - Colin does cost slightly more than the big photography companies such as George Stree, Edward Fox, etc. We had spoken with those companies prior to choosing Colin. Was Colin more expensive - sure, but was it worth it? Hands down it was worth it. There are other photographers in the same league as Colin who are charging 3x, 4x, more than Colin's fees. Colin has an extremely fair price for the quality of the photographer that he is. He is a high-end photographer with fair prices. All of the above are reasons why I recommend Colin. He truely is the absolute best. On top of all of this, I want to speak about Colin as a person. I did not know Colin prior to choosing him for my wedding photographer. Through our meetings with him, then engagement shoot, and finally our wedding - I had the pleasure of getting to know Colin as an 'individual'. What an incredible, genuine, honest, thoughtful, and just all around nice guy. It was SO nice working with Colin. He made us feel comfortable, and it like we were hanging out with a friend. Not only that, Colin was the man of many trades at my wedding. He was the 'dj' in our limo rides, gave directions when the limo took a wrong turn, stood by me (the bride) when my wedding party got busy to ensure I was not left alone. He is an absolute gem. I HIGHLY recommend Colin as a photographer for your wedding or any special occasion. He truely is the absolute BEST in every category.

Not only is Colin an incredibly talented and versatile photographer, but he was an absolute joy to work with along with his assistant, Elena Bazini. Between the two of them, they made sure to cover all the key moments and really captured the spirit and emotions of our wedding day. He also met with us several times before the wedding, he was very quick to respond to all of our emails, and he even drove 30 miles out of his way to scope out the location in advance.

Colin remembered specific requests I had throughout the evening and he really captured the details and with a unique and artistic use of props. Colin made everyone feel at ease and managed to get everyone to cooperate throughout the day. He sent our slideshow just a little over a week after the wedding and we've received nothing but rave reviews from our friends and family. We highly recommend Colin as your photographer for any and all occasions.

Colin was fantastic! I was so lucky to have found him. Our wedding was in the burbs in a location where Colin was not familiar with. Colin went out there before the wedding and scouted out a bunch of unique locations to shoot at. During the wedding I did not notice Colin at all, but he got all these amazing pictures! He had such a fun and great attitude taking the bridal party shots. I have been in weddings where the photographer is bossy and rude, and this was not Colin at all. During the reception, I also did not notice Colin or his assistant! I never felt like there was a camera in my face or like I had to keep posing. I'd like to join in singing Colin's praises. Amazing pictures, great to work with, etc. You can expect a professional, yet easy-going person who is VERY responsive. You won't ever have to deal with unreturned phone calls, etc.

The key thing I'd like to add for future couples to know about Colin is this: I have pictures of moments from my wedding day that I would have sworn Colin wasn't even around to capture. He has a talent for blending in and capturing the moment without becoming part of it. So my memories are of my husband, family, and friends -- not of having a camera in my face. Colin was exactly the kind of photographer we wanted for our wedding day! He was friendly, non-intrusive and easy-going! Plus, our photographs were fun, unique and spoke to who we are as a couple! We'd recommend his services to any couple seeking something exciting, unique and fun in wedding day photos!

Colin and his team were a great addition to an amazing wedding. They were always at the right place at the right time and it was good to see that they had everything already planned out and knew what they were doing.

I am no photographer so we were happy to see them take everything into their hands. They seemed to get every shot that we needed and then some.

The communication up to the wedding was stellar as well. We had no doubt in our minds that we chose the right photography company.

Colin's pictures really speak for themselves. I have only received my preview, but I love the pictures so far. Even before the big day, Colin was instrumental in making our picture plans and making sure that we got exactly what we wanted. Colin met with my husband and I prior to the big day and did a run through of what would happen. He also made sure that I got all of the "fun" pics that I wanted to get of my bridal party as well as the family shots I wanted at the church.
Colin suggested both spots for us to take pictures and both places were so fun and most importantly beautiful for the pictures. I would highly recommend Colin to anyone that wants to capture memories of a beautiful day!

Stunning photos

My wife and I had a great experience working with Colin and his team. He was extremely responsive right from the start, and met us for lunch well before our wedding day just so we could get to know each other. Leading up to our wedding we felt Colin was easy to work with. On the wedding day, Colin and his team were a lot of fun and really helped us to feel relaxed and enjoy our day. It was raining, and we ran into traffic issues, limiting our time for our photos around the city, but Colin handled all the hiccups and still managed to get a lot of good outside shots in before the rain started. We imagine if our time didn’t get cut short, we would have had more variety in our wedding party photos and more attention to how people were arranged and posed. We were a little disappointed in how he handled the family portraits. We provided a shot list well in advance and made him well aware of how big our families were, but he didn’t use the list and instead depended on us to remember all the different shots we wanted. As a result, we almost missed getting photos with both of our immediate families! When we got our photos back, we were blown away. They were absolutely stunning and we couldn’t be happier. We would definitely recommend Colin if you want amazing photos from your wedding.

Being fairly new to the area, I relied heavily on vendor recommendations through sites like The Knot, Wedding Wire, and even Yelp when choosing a photographer for my wedding – and I must say, the stellar reviews on the sites were spot on! Colin was not available on my wedding day, so he suggested Jordan. Jordan did a wonderful job and was a delightful to have around on our big day. She was attentive to any shot requests we had, but she also had the vision to capture shots that we didn’t. In addition, throughout the planning process Colin and Jordan were wonderful. They we both very patient in answering all my questions, and worked with me to find the package that captured what I wanted while also working within my budget. I perhaps could have used a little more direction during the engagement shoot (though I know some couples don’t need this), but wedding pictures were everything I had hoped for! Overall I would definitely recommend Colin Lyons Photography.

We were looking for a photographer that was creative and could capture the type of wedding pictures we wanted. We needed someone who knew the great spots in Chicago to capture the essence of the city. Colin was our man. He was wonderful to work with and really tried to listen and understand our needs. Plus he was fun to hang out with. (I probably hung out with him more then my own husband throughout the night). You will not be disappointed by hiring Colin and his team. They went above and beyond our expectations. I would recommend him a million times over. FANTASTIC
