I relocated from NY a few months before my wedding and needed to find an alterations expert. Several bridal salons recommended Cheryl Lofton & Associates. I'm so happy I chose them. The entire staff is so friendly too. Ali was my tailor and I'd recommend him again in a heartbeat. My dress needed quite a few alterations which required Ali to remove and re-sew by hand the delicate lace and flowers. Also, I wanted the straps to sit a certain way and Ali told me I could have it that way, but that it would be a mistake - he showed how it would change the look of the back of my dress. He instead recommended a workaround that was genius. Ali also added an internal belt to further improve the fit and add support - such a great idea. In the end, my dress fit perfectly - no gaps or awkward angles. I was so happy and felt beautiful and comfortable in my dress. Ali is a true master of his trade. Thank you, Ali!! -

Personable, Professional, Dress Altering Experience
I purchased my dress in Nebraska so that my family could attend, and brought my dress to DC to be altered. I found Cheryl and her incredible team through recommendations online and after working with them, I understand why they come so highly recommended. My dress required MANY alterations, as it was more fitted, and Ali worked incredible magic to customize my dream dress. He was always very kind, and completed everything on time for my wedding. Cheryl and the front desk team were very professional and personable, making me feel like I was the only bride they were working with. I came to Cheryl and Gale (not sure if I’m spelling her name right) after a HORRIBLE wedding dress alteration experience elsewhere (review to come). They were able to squeeze me in less than a month from my November wedding date. My wedding dress was mangled and Gale worked her MAGIC in a series of nearly 4 appointments to essentially reconstruct the dress to make it the beautiful masterpiece it was meant to be. It fit me like a glove and complemented me in all the right places. After every appointment, I left feeling assured that my dress would be taken care of and that they both truly cared about my satisfaction. I felt so confident and beautiful on our special and it’s all thanks to them. The professionalism, flexibility, meticulous attention to detail, levity (they were both really good at making me smile and laugh during a very stressful time), and superior knowledge of tailoring—you really can’t go wrong here. Having my wedding dress tailored by Cheryl Lofton & Associates was perfect from start to finish. I reached out about tailoring services in late June for my August 22 wedding. I wasn't sure if I would be able to find a tailor given the pandemic, but CL&A had protocols in place to make sure I had a safe experience. I emailed a picture of my dress before I came in and Amber recommended I work with Gale, who does beautiful French bustles. I was always the only customer in the store during my appointments, and we always wore masks. Gale worked magic on my dress, which was two sizes too large in the bust, needed four layers hemmed, cups sewn in, and a French bustle. All was completed in time for my wedding, and the price quoted during my first appointment was what I paid upon pickup. I was so grateful to be able to wear my dress, I cannot say enough good things about CL&A!Cheryl Lofton & Associates's reply:

Beautiful alterations and excellent service
Cheryl Lofton & Associates did a beautiful job with the alterations for my wedding dress. The fit wound up being just perfect--comfortable to wear all day and incredibly flattering--as you can see in the pictures! The experience of getting the alterations was also lovely. I fainted in the store during the session (fainting is just a thing I do), and they were so patient, generous, and warm with me as I recovered and then through the rest of the alterations. I'd highly recommend both the gorgeous final product and the experience!Cheryl Lofton & Associates's reply:

Best decision I ever made. I took my dress to Cheryl Lofton's team after reading their wonderful online reviews, and after having some not-so-pleasant phone calls with other (more expensive) bridal seamstresses in town. Not only were they kind and thoughtful, but Gail (my seamstress)'s attention to detail was impeccable. Wedding dresses, tuxedos, suits, dresses, you name it. I trust and highly recommend Cheryl Lofton for anything special you need tailored. -

I came to Cheryl Lofton at the recommendation of my Floravere stylists for wedding dress alterations. I worked with Valerie who had altered the same dress for someone else which made me confident that she knew the style and fabric well. Valerie was very down to earth, detail-oriented, and attentive to my preferences. The dress came together wonderfully and I loved the way that we changed the back of the dress and made it into a low V back. I found the prices to be more reasonable than another alterations shop I considered in Alexandria, Virginia. What I appreciated even more was that they gave me a pricing quote free of charge based on what I wanted to change even before I put the dress on! I bought a beautiful Lela Rose gown online for my wedding but it was two sizes two big. Cheryl and her team took the dress apart and put it back together in such a beautiful way that it looked like the dress was custom made. Miss Valerie also suggested alternations that made me look even BETTER, including a belt that she made from the extra dress material! And the price was VERY reasonable. My husband (!) and I have been going to Cheryl for years. So, when we got engaged, I knew I would trust no one else with my wedding dress!
About that dress: I dropped about two sizes between when I bought it and our big day. Yet, Cheryl and her team made sure my dress fit me perfectly!
I also had a rather impressive train, and they were really invested in making sure it was the most flattering and gorgeous bustle.
I had lace all around the bottom of my dress, so hemming it was a bit complicated. They had to remove it all, shorten it, then reapply it. The final result looked seamless.
Cheryl and her team aren't tailors -- they're magicians! Everything she touches turns out impeccably. She even does custom clothing.
(I mean, if she's good enough for Michelle Obama...) -

Cheryl Lofton and her team are seamstress queens. I created a custom dress that I THOUGHT fit, and realized through my fittings at Cherly Lofton, that we could make the dress look 3 times as good. My dress had lace, sparkles, sleeves - all the difficult stuff, and the team handled all alterations with ease. Cheryl also helped me FINALLY find a jumpsuit that was not see-through -and my seamstress had to basically remake it because I have a very long torso. It fit like a dream after my fitting. Their prices are maybe 10% more than average in DC, but when you are getting something tailored, don’t you want it to be perfection? It’s worth the $5-10 extra dollars. -

Yumiko Sent on 08/07/2018Cheryl Lofton is amazing! I had gone for previous alterations and knew that I could trust them with my wedding dress, and it turned out perfectly. Ali worked on my dress, which initially was a two piece (corset and skirt). Cheryl and Ali recommended that I either put pressure buttons in so that the top didn't come out all night or that we sew the top and skirt together. I opted for the latter, and I was so glad that I did - it looked like it had been a dress all along. Without their expert advice, I think i would have regret my choice of a two-piece.
Everyone in the shop is super friendly and helpful, and the prices are very reasonable given the quality of the work. You won't regret it! -

Geraldine Sent on 09/06/2016I'm so happy with how my dress turned out! I had the dress taken in, raised the waist, and added a belt. When I had a last-minute work trip that conflicted with my second (and most important) fitting, the staff was able to work with my schedule and squeeze me in before my travel. My seamstress Maria did an amazing job, and Cheryl and her staff were incredible to work with. I will definitely be coming back for alterations for my regular clothes.
