I had a wonderful experience working with Carolyn for my wedding hair and makeup. From the very beginning, she was responsive, warm, and incredibly kind. She even traveled from Northern Virginia to the Richmond area for my trial, which I truly appreciated.
During the trial, Carolyn was very open to feedback and willing to experiment with different styles and looks until everything felt just right. She had a calm, reassuring presence, exactly what I needed on my wedding day.
I had a larger bridal party, and Carolyn and her team did an amazing job staying on schedule while still delivering beautiful, high-quality results for everyone. Many of my bridesmaids have said they now use their hair and makeup from my wedding as inspiration for other weddings because they loved their looks so much.
I couldn’t recommend Carolyn more highly!

Kind and personalized hair and make up
Carolyn was so great to work with! I rarely wear make up and if I do it’s minimal so I was extremely nervous about getting my make up done for my wedding. I also had a very small wedding and minimal bridal party. Carolyn was so kind, listened to my concerns and was a calming presence while still making me feel special even though we didn’t have a big “getting ready” afternoon like more traditional wedding parties. I was in love with my hair and make up and she fully made my vision come true. Highly recommend!!

For Professional Makeup Doubters
Carolyn is literally the best makeup artist in the country as far as I'm concerned. I am someone who doesn't do professional makeup often and when it's done, I always find myself adjusting some part of it because it's not right. Even then, I prefer to do it on my own. When it came time for my wedding and all of these events, I was really worried about the makeup not being just right. Carolyn surprised me by transforming my face into something better than I could have even imagined. She has a true artistic eye for beauty and accentuating your features - literally making you feel even more beautiful that you thought you ever could. This is coming from someone who thought they had "perfected" their own look over the years. All my bridesmaids opted in for makeup and all of them loved their looks. I seriously cannot recommend Carolyn and her team more highly. She has a true gift for her art and if you trust her, she'll completely surprise you in ways you never thought were possible! I looked into various hair and makeup vendors that serve the Charlottesville area. After chatting with Carolyn, I knew I had to hire her immediately! I have done a hair and makeup lesson with Carolyn, she did my hair and makeup and my sister’s hair and makeup for my sister’s wedding rehearsal dinner, and she did hair and makeup for my whole bridal party on my wedding day! Half of my bridal party never wears makeup, and the other half loves a more glam look, and Carolyn delivered! I recommend Carolyn to anyone looking for a HMUA for a special event!

The best choice I ever made for my special day
Carolyn was hands down the best choice I could have possibly made for my wedding weekend! I did not know the makeup industry at all or know of any makeup artists, and I am SO glad I found Carolyn. She did my wedding trial the day of my engagement photo shoot… and I was BLOWN away and so happy with our decision!
Then came the wedding weekend… Carolyn hit it out of the park for every single part. She did my hair and makeup for the rehearsal dinner… and it SLAYED!!! Then came the wedding day… And Carolyn literally saved the day. I was so happy with my makeup and wanted to make sure it lasted all day. Even thought we didn’t book it, I asked her on the spot to stay for touchups, and she moved her schedule around to accommodate me. Not only that… but I ended up needing my hair (done by another artist) touched up too and she made it perfect for the isle.
Carolyn, I could never say thank you enough. You made me and all my bridesmaids and family look incredible, and I will cherish your work through our pictures forever.

Great experience with Carolyn!
Carolyn did my hair and makeup trial before my overseas elopement. I wanted to get ideas on what would look good on me and get some pictures to show the makeup artist at my venue. She was absolutely amazing! My hair and makeup looked fantastic, and she really listened to me and helped me get the look I wanted. She also gave me a lot of good tips and several free samples.
She was very responsive with emails and scheduling, and she was on time for our appointment. She was a fun, relaxed person to chat with for couple of hours. I highly recommend Carolyn for hair and makeup services!

I absolutely cannot recommend Lipstick and Chiffon enough!!! Carolyn is an absolute gem. From our first conversation, she was warm, attentive, and incredibly professional. I was particularly nervous because I had had a bad experience with another hair and makeup vendor at another hair trial. I particularly worried about finding the right shades with my fair skin and red hair, and blush placement. Carolyn said no problem!!! She took the time to understand my vision and translated it into a look that felt completely me.
On the day of the wedding, she brought such calm and positive energy—it felt like just another friend getting ready with me. This is SO underrated, because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. My makeup held up beautifully through SO many tears, drinks, and a night full of dancing, and I received so many compliments throughout the day. I felt so pretty but also like myself. Carolyn is an absolutely incredible hair and makeup artist who made my wedding day truly special. From our initial hair and makeup trial to the wedding itself, she was a complete joy to work with — as talented, kind, flexible, easy, warm, and professional as could be. When I looked in the mirror after she finished my hair and makeup on wedding morning, I literally could not have been any happier; she had captured exactly what I was hoping for (and what we did in the trial) while somehow making it even better than I had imagined :) She blew me away! And beyond just my own hair and makeup, Carolyn worked her magic on my bridesmaids, my mother, and my now-husband’s mother as well, and everyone looked absolutely stunning. She did such a wonderful job asking each person what they wanted and really delivering exactly that. In addition to her hair and makeup talent (which is superlative, seriously), Carolyn’s calm and supportive presence throughout the wedding day was also so special. What could have been a stressful time on wedding morning was instead relaxing and enjoyable thanks to her warmth and professionalism. All that to say, I cannot recommend Carolyn highly enough! She is not only seriously talented at what she does, but she's also an all-star human being who brings such positive energy to your special day. Carolyn and her team truly brought my Viking Celtic wedding theme to life! Carolyn worked with me to achieve exactly what I wanted. I was hesitant about my trial and she made me feel so comfortable expressing exactly what I wanted differently, and then she made it a reality. She even allowed me to come in with wet hair and used my hair tools at my request in order to achieve the look I was most comfortable with. She was also incredibly flexible when last minute additions within the bridal party were added on (on the wedding day!) and she even offered to let me call her after the ceremony to have her come back to style a second look in case the rain ruined my hair. I highly recommend her!!

I had an excellent experience with Carolyn! I was most worried about hair and make up during the planning process, as this isn't a priority in my daily life and wasn't in my wedding budget either. I had a very difficult time finding any professionals who were willing to do on-site bride-only services for the wedding. Carolyn was the perfect fit!! We did a trial before my bridal shower, where she tried four different styles for the wedding and ultimately styled my hair for the shower as well. I couldn't have asked for a better artist on the day of the wedding. She was ahead of schedule but relaxed at the same time, flexible with any changes I wanted from the trial, and the final result was better than I could have ask for! I loved it and felt totally like myself! I would highly recommend her services!

Carolyn and her team did wedding make up for myself (bride) + 8 others. They were extremely efficient but thorough and everyone looked amazing. Carolyn and her team really listened to what people wanted and made adjusted if needed. My makeup and hair looked exactly how I wanted and lasted 8+ hours. I felt and looked great without being over down (as asked). In the planning process, Carolyn was extremely professional, great communicator and flexible to changing number of people doing hair/makeup. Carolyn is so wonderful, she came over to my house bright and early for my wedding day hair and makeup and it was like i was having it done by my best friend. I loved working with Carolyn for wedding hair and makeup. She made the trial so easy and relaxed, which was a great way to test out my look and make sure it was right for me. I get fairly oily throughout the day so she even changed up a few products after my trial so that wedding day would be perfect and I wouldn’t worry. And it was! Natural glowy makeup for my wedding day!
Carolyn did the makeup for my maid of honor and me at my wedding, and she did an amazing job! I'm not someone who usually wears a lot of makeup, but she truly made me feel beautiful and like myself. We did a trial a few months beforehand (photos from that included here), which put me at ease, knowing I would love how my makeup looked on the big day. She was also the only makeup artist I reached out to who was willing to travel for a small bridal party. She's also a lovely and fun person with a calming presence (perfect to be around for a potentially stressful yet exciting wedding day!). My makeup stayed on all day and night, and she even provided a gloss and lipstick for my maid of honor and me to refresh throughout the day. Working with Carolyn was the best experience from start to finish. She did my makeup for my engagement photos, made me feel like a queen during my wedding hair and make-up trial, and nailed my semi retro look I wanted for my rehearsal dinner. Carolyn and her team were a dream to work with! I chose to have my trial the day of my bridal shower and she was so sweet, accomodating, and enjoyable to work with. She walked me through the whole process asking me about my hair and makeup during each stage. I also had her come for my rehearsal dinner, which she did a different look for. On my wedding day I decided to change up my makeup from the trial and without hesitation she was ready to make me feel beautiful. She understood my vision for all events and executed perfectly. Carolyn did my hair and makeup for my wedding (along with ALL my bridesmaids and mother-in-law) and everything turned out truly perfect. Carolyn is such an amazing hair & makeup artist and is so joyful, kind, & positive! I LOVED having her by my side for engagement pictures, rehearsal dinner, and our wedding day!! She is SO talented & my hair and makeup held up perfectly for our August wedding! She went above and beyond for each bridesmaid, mother of the bride & groom, grandmother of the groom, and our flower girls! She was so organized leading up to our wedding and the day of! We chose to do a first look at the last minute and she handled that flawlessly! Our day would not have been complete without Carolyn & her team!! We highly recommend her & are so thankful for her!

The coolest makeup & hair stylist around!
Carolyn was referred to me by a coworker and she completely exceeded expectations! She was responsive in making plans, always on time or early and listened/took notes on what I was looking for. She was such a (necessary) calming force on my wedding day and best of all, made myself and my crew look and feel beautiful. I asked for a more "natural" look whereas my MOH wanted full glam and Carolyn easily delivered on both requests! It poured and was humid the entire day but by the end of the night my makeup was still beautiful!

Working with Carolyn was a wonderful experience
I had the best experience working with Carolyn for my wedding. She was not only a relaxing presence to be around on my wedding day but she was really thoughtful in making sure I would love my hair and makeup. Carolyn and I did a trial a few months before my wedding and she was so accommodating in doing a second trial when I decided I wanted to change my look for my wedding day. I am not someone who typically wears a lot of makeup and Carolyn did the best job at making me feel beautiful and polished on my wedding day while still looking and feeling like myself. All of my bridesmaids agreed that they loved their hair/makeup and said that compared to makeup artists from other weddings they had been in she was the absolute best.

Carolyn is awesome and I HIGHLY recommend her! I don't wear a ton of makeup day-to-day, and neither do most of my bridesmaids, but she did such an amazing job doing hair and makeup that made me and all of my bridesmaids feel beautiful! She is great at listening and incorporating your feedback in order to really give you what you want. It was a 10/10 experience working with her!

She was absolutely WONDERFUL from her flexibility leading up to our wedding to absolutely incredibly hair and makeup. I cannot recommend Carolyn enough....she listened to exactly what I was wanting for both hair and make up. She almost knew what I wanted more than I knew what I wanted! She is extremely talented and a great person to have on your wedding day. In addition to hair and make up, she was calm and patient and has great energy - exactly what I wanted/needed on the big day. She made me look and feel like a QUEEN! I also recommend doing a trial with her before your wedding day so you can decide on the exact look you want!

Carolyn was so great and easy to work with. Punctuality was one of my top priorities when booking a hair and makeup vendor since if that part of the timeline runs late it can throw off the whole day. Carolyn was always on time both for our trial and the wedding day! And she's super chill and organized and was willing to do a second bridal makeup trial when I wanted to test out some new products closer to the wedding day. My makeup was so light it felt like I wasn't wearing it at all and my bridesmaids raved about their makeup throughout the night. I would work with her again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend!

Carolyn's make-up and hair services are unmatched. I do not normally wear a lot of make-up and it was important to me to look/feel like myself on my wedding day. Not only did Carolyn deliver, she also made me feel heard and worked with me to create a look that we both liked! She is incredibly professional, friendly, timely (!!!) and can give you the full glam look or enhance your natural beauty with just a few products. Wonderful exprience with Carolyn!
Carolyn was excellent overall in my experience! I found Carolyn through a vendor recommendation from my wedding photographer Rachel E.H. Photography (who is also amazing). I had one early morning appointment 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM with Carolyn the day of my Saturday September wedding located in Northern Virginia. There were three of us who needed hair and makeup (me and two bridesmaids). Carolyn budgeted her time well. I was a little nervous about time and I did get my hair and makeup done last of the three of us but we finished with time to spare! One of my bridesmaid and I have very long hair but she managed us with ease putting up our hair. With all my wedding stress, my skin wasn't in the greatest shape but Carolyn did her magic and my skin looked flawless for the day. I had only booked Carolyn a little over a month out from my wedding, and I did not opt to have a Hair and Makeup Trial to save costs. She performed as expected and was so kind to all of us. She met at our hotel on time too. I had initially planned just for me to have my Hair and Makeup but decided to add on two bridesmaids. I had a little confusion over the pricing whether the Bridal Party Wedding Day Hair & Makeup was price per person or a package for all bridesmaids but with further communication with Carolyn, we cleared that up as it was per person pricing. Honestly, I did not expect to have added on bridesmaids to my appointment but looking back I wouldn't have wanted to do it without them. I will cherish the memories made being with them while getting ready for the day! Well worth the cost, great quality, and it seems comparable to other vendors it is good pricing. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience with Carolyn. I recommend!!!

Exceptional Hair and Makeup Artist who Builds Trust with her Clients
Carolyn and her team were exceptional in every way. I found Carolyn through my wedding planner and needed only to speak with her once to know she was an incredibly professional, knowledgeable, creative artist. She was incredibly responsive throughout my wedding planning process, not only with my questions about my style, but also with my bridal party's questions. She made me feel comfortable in the makeup chair (I don't usually wear a ton of product) and built trust with me by listening to my vision and talking with me about my hair texture. On my rehearsal dinner day, my makeup look was exactly what I wanted! For the big day, we pivoted to a slightly different hair look last minute, and Carolyn was amazing. I looked and felt like the absolute best version of myself. My now husband could not stop saying how pretty my makeup was. My bridesmaids were thrilled with her and her team's work. They all looked stunning, and many of them have already asked for her information for their own upcoming weddings. I would hire Carolyn again in a heartbeat. Carolyn was my saving grace on my wedding day!! From two amazing trials leading up to the big day, I knew her artistry day of would be phenomenal. Carolyn and team did my whole bridal party’s hair and makeup and everyone looked gorgeous. There was 40mph winds on my wedding day and Carolyn went above and beyond by hanging back until after the ceremony to touch up my windblown hair and makeup. My wedding planner recommended Carolyn for my New Years Eve wedding at Pippin Hill in Charlottesville, VA. From the very beginning she was extremely professional and responsive. She did a trial for my bridal shower which I loved but was flexible when I decided to go for a different look for my wedding day. After having to postpone our wedding a full year, I was nervous that my day-of look would be a challenge since I wasn’t able to do a second trial. However, Carolyn took the photos I showed her and gave me the exact look that I was going for. On the day of the wedding, Carolyn and her team provided a calm and stress free experience for me and my girls. They were on time, professional, and fun. All of my bridesmaids and moms loved their look which helped the getting ready portion of the day flow so smoothly. I would absolutely recommend Carolyn for any shower, rehearsal dinner, or wedding! Carolyn was absolutely amazing to work with! She was so organized and responsive throughout the planning process and would check in regularly to make sure things were going well and to get all the information she needed. We appreciated how flexible she was when we postponed the wedding and when I decided to add Rehearsal Dinner hair and makeup after we already signed our initial contract. She was on time and prepared for my trial, rehearsal dinner, and the wedding and stuck to all of the timelines so I didn't have to stress about being late. She was also so patient with me at my trial when I couldn't decide on a hairstyle and helped me figure out the style that would check all of my boxes.
Carolyn did a wonderful job making all of my bridesmaids and me look and feel beautiful. Everyone looked like themselves and felt comfortable with wedding makeup on, which isn't easy to do! Lastly, Carolyn was so incredibly kind and easy to get along with. She put everyone at ease and made it feel like chatting with a friend while she worked :)

I had 9 bridesmaids, plus my mom and I to do hair and makeup, and they did a fantastic job on each and every one of us. They put all of their effort into each person, and my bridesmaids all mentioned how happy they were with how their hair and makeup came out. My own hair and makeup was exactly how I had hoped and envisioned, I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out. Carolyn and her team made me feel calm and at ease on the day of my wedding, which as most brides know is not always easy. I can’t recommend her enough!

Amazing Experience!
There are not enough good things to say about Carolyn! I have had my make up and hair done many times for special occasions and have always left the appointments with varying degrees of disappointment. She is the first that made me feel like she was enhancing my beauty while giving me the look that I wanted. She did this, not only for me, but for my entire bridal party. She was extremely professional and responsive and was totally flexible as we worked to manage COVID. Fabulous experience beginning to end!

I can not say enough about my experience with Carolyn! As an older bride (57) I had concerns about my wedding day that I did not have when I was 23. Carolyn instantly put my mind at ease. She listens, she is patient, she creates a calm atmosphere and she is SO TALENTED. I used Carolyn for my welcome party and my reception and we created two different looks that I loved! Best decision ever
My makeup was what I was most nervous about for my wedding. I am not a big makeup person and wanted to look beautiful but natural for my wedding day. I also did not want to pay an arm and a leg or a ridiculous minimum for every component of hair and makeup. I looked and looked and then had the great stroke of luck to find Carolyn. Carolyn listens deeply; she has incredible talent to bring your vision to life; the humility to take feedback and incorporate it to perfect the look you want; and the creativity and professionalism to make extra touches to give you a look that even you did not envision. Carolyn is so amazing that one of my engaged bridesmaids hired her for next year! I had a bad trial with a different HMUA in Charlottesville, but thank goodness Carolyn had my date available! She is super responsive and we scheduled a trial right away. My trial with her was 1000x better than my first one, and the day-of-wedding hair / makeup turned out perfect, even though it rained. All my bridesmaids agreed! Carolyn is best of the best. She brought my vision to life and I felt beautiful on wedding day. Carolyn is professional, friendly, and has strong communication skills. We last minute decided to do our first look the day before our wedding due to the weather forecast. Picture perfect hair and make-up!
I highly recommend Carolyn for all of your wedding beauty needs! Everything was perfect from our first consultation phone call to the day of. Carolyn is laid back, sweet and fun to talk to. She's open and honest and really listens to what you what. I absolutely LOVED my make-up after my trial. She took very detailed notes and pictures to ensure that my wedding day look was exactly as the trial. I decided after the trial to make a slight change to my hair and sent Carolyn a picture. It was absolute perfection!
We did my make-up early in the morning and it lasted all day well into the night. The only thing we touched up was my lipstick and gloss and Carolyn provided a full set for my to use throughout the day. Several people commented on how well both my hair and my make-up still looked at the end of the night.
I really couldn't have been happier with Carolyn and her work. I'm so happy that my wedding planner introduced us!

Carolyn was professional and easy to work with throughout the process. We decided to have a marriage ceremony with fairly short notice due to COVID. After confirming scheduling availability, Carolyn sent an itemized price list. She clearly communicated throughout the process on recommendations and expectations. Since we were having a family-only wedding, we only required bride and MOH makeup and hair. I do not wear much makeup on a daily basis, so wanted a natural look, while still feeling upgraded. Carolyn hit the nail on the head! I recommend doing a trial, it took away any wedding day pressure. For both the trial and wedding day, Carolyn was on time and friendly. My sister and I loved our makeup and hair. I would absolutely recommend Carolyn for other brides and/or special occasions!

Wedding Makeup AND Hair All in One!
Carolyn was recommended by my wedding photographer and best of all did my hair AND makeup! It felt nice not to have to have more people around than necessary still during the pandemic. She was very professional and extra cautious of keeping everyone safe! She took the time to listen to my vision and the three other women apart of my wedding. I am a professional portrait photographer and regularly use Carolyn for my clients because she's very responsive, a pleasure to work with, pays attention to the little details, and is able to achieve a gorgeous "natural beauty glow" on everyone. When my own wedding day came around I knew she was exactly who I wanted to do my bridal hair and makeup as well as that of my bridal party, mother, and grandmother. I loved the tips and questionnaire she sent to help me prepare along the way and I felt like she really listened to what I wanted (was a pro at styling my naturally curly hair, especially on a hot and humid June afternoon) and made it a reality. Doing the hair and makeup trial was very helpful and gave me one less thing to worry about on my wedding day as I knew we were already on the same page as to what my hair and makeup would look like--all I had to do was let her work her magic! I've never seen my bridesmaids look so beautiful (yet still like themselves) and everyone commented on how friendly and talented she was. From a makeup person, she's my pick!
Carolyn was just spectacular. She did mine, my mom's and bridesmaid's hair and makeup for my wedding. (As well, she did my engagement shoot and a bridal trial.)
Carolyn is talented and patient. I brought many particular products and ideas to my make up trial, and she rolled with the punches! I gave her a particular vision, and she handled it with grace (putting me at ease). She was also very thoughtful working with my mom, who had no vision at all. My mom said that she never felt so beautiful!
Carolyn can make your specific hair/make up visions come to life. OR if you have no idea at all (like my mom), she can glam you up and make you feel gorgeous!

The most talented artist in the dmv!
Carolyn is absolutely the best you could possibly hire for your wedding! I first hired her for my engagement photo shoot. It was a little last minute (like 2 days before lol) and she saved the day! I explained to her a little bit of the look I was going for and she nailed it! I was so impressed by her professionalism, attention to detail, and talent. My hair, which is pin-straight and very flat, was curly and full of volume still the next day! I had requested a smoky eye and a bit of glamor. The look was stunning! She used a color pallet that complemented my eyes and made my facial features really pop.
I HAD to hire her for my wedding! Leading up to my wedding, she was patient and kind and made sure that every detail was perfect. She came to me for multiple trials to make sure my look was just right. The end result was nothing short of flawless. I would write a novel for Carolyn if I could! My wedding hair was a very full low bun. I wanted an up-do but wanted to still have volume. My makeup was the perfect balance of “subtle-bridal” and drama. I looked exactly the way I had always dreamed I would.
For future brides: I'm a woman who loves makeup and is very particular. Carolyn exceeded my expectations and she'll do the same for you. Hiring Carolyn will be the best decision you’ll make... other than marrying your husband ;-)

I cannot say enough great things about Carolyn and her team! From start to finish, Carolyn made me feel like a priority and took all of my requests and thoughts to heart. I don't know much about hair and makeup, so I tried to just show Carolyn pictures of things I liked and asked her to help come up with a vision for me. I was so thrilled with the way things turned out, and she made me feel so beautiful for both my engagement photos and the big day. My biggest fear getting my makeup done is always that it will look unnatural or too thick, and Carolyn knew just the perfect amount to apply so that you look great in photographs AND in real life. Carolyn was such a joy to work with throughout the wedding process. I'm normally just a mascara and chapstick girl so was very nervous about booking a HMUA artist. From the beginning, she was so flexible and patient with me. She was also by far the most responsive of all of my vendors which I deeply appreciated while I was deep into wedding planning stress.

Carolyn is an absolutely amazing person and will make you look and feel the best ever on your wedding day. One thing I didn't realize about your wedding day is how much time you spend with your hair and makeup artist (especially if you have a lot of bridesmaids!). Thanks to her hair and makeup expertise, she was able to enhance my natural look and make me feel confident and gorgeous. She took my ideas and ran with them, and did the same for my bridesmaids and mom. We are all obsessed and couldn't not give higher praise. Carolyn is a total rockstar and I am so grateful she was a part of my day.

Delightful experience
It was such a pleasure working with Carolyn. I had trouble finding someone who was available on my date (a holiday weekend), and had found a different hair person before I found Carolyn for makeup. The hair trial with the other person didn't go well, so I asked Carolyn if she could do both hair and makeup for our group. I'm so glad I did! She was such a pleasure to work with, and she did a fantastic job on both hair and makeup. I had four bridesmaids and two flower girls, so due to time constraints, we asked her to bring an assistant (who turned out to be her mom! It was so cute). I was really pleased with the way it all turned out, and couldn't have enjoyed the experience of working with Carolyn more. Thank you!

Amazing experience!
Carolyn did my hair and makeup on my wedding day as well as my bridesmaids - we had such an incredible experience and everything turned out amazing! She did such a wonderful job and I would highly recommend! We actually had a few bridesmaids ask for hair/makeup last minute after seeing how well other girls turned out! =)

Above and beyond service!
Carolyn was wonderful to work with! During the trial, I didn't really know what I wanted, but after a quick discussion she was able to come up with the perfect look. She really made me to look amazing on my big day! On top of all of that, when another hair dresser messed up my sister's (maid of honor!) hair, Carolyn got her curling iron and fixed it for her in between doing our makeup! She really saved the day and went completely above and beyond to make everything perfect. She has a wonderful personality and is a delight to work with. Highly recommend!
