Our experience with Donna could not have been better. Our cake with as tasty as it was beautiful. We found Donna to be extremely easy to work with and accommodating. When we had questions she worked with us and offered suggestions for how we could make things happen vs. pushing an aggressive upsell. Donna is passionate about her work and wants her customers to be happy -- it's evident in the way she approaches her craft. I would 100% recommend Donna and hope there is an opportunity to work together again in the future.

Donna's cakes are beautiful, delicious, and a great value for the price! Finding a baker who makes amazing cakes for a reasonable price is difficult, but we were so happy when we found Donna that we booked her on the spot at our tasting! We went over to Donna's for a tasting, and had several delicious flavors to choose from, and ended up doing a different flavor for each tier, plus an extra sheet cake (the "fall spice" top layer was VERY popular and great for our October wedding.) On our wedding day, the cake looked exactly as I had described/shown her, and tasted as I remembered too! Donna also had us just ship our topper to her house so she had everything all set up at the reception (and one less thing for us to remember on the day.) As a plus - since we live locally on our 1 year anniversary Donna will make us a small cake so we didn't have to freeze the top layer for a year! We highly recommend Cakes by Marida! (thank you Donna!)

Cakes by Marida was one of my favorite experiences about wedding planning. I bake as a hobby and it truly is one of my passions therefore having both a delicious and beautiful cake for our wedding day was VERY important to me. I emailed Donna for an inquiry and she responded almost immediately. We then scheduled a tasting and I went to the tasting with my sister in law (my bridesmaid) who also loves sweets and we got to taste many of the cake flavors and her AMAZING/ONE OF A KIND strawberry buttercream. After the tasting, I decided immediately that I wanted Donna to bake our wedding cake, the tasting was that delicious! I decided for the All Chocolate cake and Vanilla with Strawberry Buttercream Cake, I loved the fact she made a two tier cake but there was plenty of sheet cake for the rest of our wedding guests. Donna was very nice through the whole process, she even allowed me to mail our cake topper straight to her house from the store I got it. I showed her wedding cake pictures from pinterest so she can understand what I was looking for and when I saw our wedding cake in person I was delighted with how beautiful it looked, it was even more beautiful than the pictures I showed her! Last but not least, I cannot wait to have our one year wedding anniversary cake!

Finding a wedding cake vendor was one of the most difficult aspects of planning our wedding. We were having a winter wedding and wanted a very wintery cake. We had the idea to serve a German Chocolate cake covered with a white buttercream made to look like snowy mountains. After visiting 6 other bakeries and being disappointed by cakes that were dry, overpriced, or covered with a grainy buttercream, we were so happy to find Cakes by Marida. Donna (the baker) made us a special tasting of german chocolate cake, along with about six other flavors. All of the cakes were moist and flavorful. Her buttercream was a true standout, light and not overly sweet. She was friendly and excited to try the design idea we had brought from pinterest, and she was also happy to provide allergy-friendly cupcakes for our dairy and nut-free guests. Finally, she was one of the most reasonably priced bakers we visited. We received so many compliments on the cake, with many of our guests going back for seconds and even thirds. And my husband and I loved the cake so much, we actually ate the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. Highly recommended!

Working with Donna was awesome! We got married in November and Donna made a three tier cake and all three layers were different flavors. She was so easy to work with and extremely flexible. At her cake tasting she had almost evert popular flavor available to try. There was one flavor combination my now husband and I really wanted to try but didn't get to so she offered to make us half a dozen cupcakes! Her cakes are delicious and fresh. We had so many compliments from our guests on how great our cake tasted! We went with her lemon with white chocolate raspberry filling, white with strawberry filling and the last tier was something she and I came up with which was so nice that she was open to trying to make something other than what was on her signature list. Donna was always responsive, let us ship our cake topper directly to her and will make us a complimentary one year anniversary cake! We can't wait. Donna truly emobdies professionalism, is so accommodating, skilled, and truly makes an amazing wedding cake and design! Our cake was stunning! We loved working with her and looking forward to our one year anniversary so we can experience her cake baking again!

I can't say enough about Donna Lovett, the owner. She was so helpful through email and did an amazing job! She is licensed to bake out of her home and it was by far the best tasting we went to. She helped us figure out how to save money! We ended up doing a two tiered cake and a groom's sheet cake. It fed 100 people and we had leftovers. The cake was not only beautiful, but so yummy! I can't wait for our one year anniversary, so we can get our fresh cake topper.

Every beautiful cake is individually made to the customer's wants and needs. Donna, the owner, is unbelievably kind and will work with you to build your dream cake. Every flavor that we tasted was simply delicious. I loved the buttercream frosting! For no extra cost, we were able to pick 3 flavors for our cake, instead of just the one. When I arrived at my wedding venue, our breath taking white tiered dream cake with cascading flowers was set up just waiting to be cut, it was kind of magical! Thank you Donna, for making our entire wedding cake experience perfect!

Donna was a pleasure to work with. After trying a few different places, I immediately knew I wanted to have Donna make my wedding cake after our cake tasting appointment. She was very accommodating and worked with me to create exactly what I had in mind. We had a two-tier cake, the top tier was lemon cake with white chocolate mousse with a thin layer of raspberry filling and the bottom tier was white cake with the same filling. The cake was beautiful, more than I had envisioned, and it was delicious. I really enjoyed working with Donna and I am looking forward to getting a free cake at our anniversary!

Donna was wonderful to work with and she went above and beyond to take on making my cake three weeks before my wedding when the young lady that was going to make my cake backed out because she didn't think she would be able to provide a quality product! It was indeed a blessing in disguise! Donna's cake and cupcakes were AMAZING!! The gluten free cupcakes were super delicious and unlike any gluten free cupcake I had ever tried to include the baker that I was originally going to use. The design was exactly what I was looking for and it was beautiful! It was beach themed with real starfishI on the cake and candy starfish on the cupcakes. All of the flavored were wonderful and it was hard to choose! I highly recommend Cakes by Marida and I will use them again for other cakes!

When searching for our cake, it was important to find a Baker who creates gluten free options (our Best Man has celiacs disease). We lucked out and found Donna, who struggles with the same intolerance. She meet with us and went over all of our options (there were lots of options). She didn't add restrictions/additional charges for different fillings or flavors we wanted. She showed us sample cakes and talked with us in great length about our taste and ideas. We went with a traditional three tiered cake. But, she offers an economically small tiered cake for show and sheet cakes as a cost effective alternative. Her pricing is so reasonable that anyone could afford their dream cake though. On the day of, she delivered the cake on time without a hiccup. It was beautiful, everything we had hoped it would be! And it was super delicious. Donna was an absolute pleasure to work with and she made the process very special to both my husband and I. We will certainly be using her for future events. Thanks a bunch!

I absolutely love Donna, the owner of Cakes by Marida. She is fantastic! I found her through my sister-in-law, who married my brother almost 10 years ago. Their cake was so beautiful, and delicious. I knew when I got married, that I would use her as well. Almost a decade later, she is still making the most awesome cakes ever! Our cake was gorgeous, with three different flavors...everyone commented on how lovely it was (we had an old fashioned 1950's style cake with lots of pink roses!), and tasty. We were eating it for days afterwards, and what was left, we put in the freezer. It froze so nicely, and thawed great (we ate it already)! I couldn't say better things about her, and how happy we were. The cake was one of my favorite things about my wedding. Thank you Cakes by Marida!!!

We had a great experience with Donna at Cakes by Marida. She responded to our initial email even though she was on vacation and was able to set up a cake tasting within a few weeks. We only needed to meet with Donna once, and after only one meeting she knew exactly what we were looking for: how we wanted the cake to look, how much we needed, and the flavors we wanted. Her prices are reasonable, and her cakes taste amazing. Donna even helped us arrange gluten free cupcakes for two of our guests with Celiacs disease! Donna easily included a plaid ribbon on our cake (as our wedding theme was Christmas plaid) and we received a lot of compliments on the taste and beauty of the cake. She was easy to work with and I highly recommend her!

We highly recommend Donna/Cakes by Marida! After meeting with several bakers, her personality, pricing, and style were refreshingly straightforward and exactly what we were looking for. She does not do fondant icing, which was fine with us as we liked the look and taste of buttercream better anyway. The cake was beautiful, and with real flowers (from our florist, but placed by Donna) draped over the tiers. The cake itself was DELICIOUS, and we received so many compliments on the variety of flavors and how good it tasted! We are already looking forward to our anniversary cake - you can't go wrong with Cakes by Marida!

First off, Donna is awesome when it comes to being available and flexible with everything! She did an amazing job with our cake and cupcakes which were gluten free and sooooooo good!!! Donna is such a talented cake maker! Not only does she make beautiful cakes, but they taste delicious too! Donna made BEAUTIFUL & DELICIOUS cupcakes for my wedding! They were perfect and such a huge hit with the guests. I special requested funfetti and red velvet cupcakes and they were TO DIE FOR!! She made the icing the perfect shade of mint green (my wedding colors) and added on monogram hearts to the top. Couldn't have been happier!

I've also tried numerous other recipes from her- including her Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, other wedding cakes, Harvest Loaf, Better than Sex Cake and others. All have been absolutely amazing.

Not only is she incredibly talented, but so thoughtful, creative, and a pleasure to work with. You can tell how much she really cares about her customers and goes above and beyond to make an event or party so amazingly special.

My husband isn't particular on many things,however, one thing he feels VERY strongly about is wedding food. The cake was #1 on our wedding 2-do list. Cakes by Marida set up a tasting for us where we were able to taste everything, she even let us take some samples home! For our wedding we had several different flavors of cupcakes, a small cake and chocolate chip cookies. Everything was WONDERFUL! Cakes by Marida is a joy to work with and played a very important role on my wedding day.

Donna of Cakes by Marida was a pleasure to work with throughout our wedding planning process, and the finished product was both beautiful and delicious! The price for the quality was also excellent. The cake tasting was very helpful, and gave us a good idea of which flavors we wanted to choose. It was easy to get in touch with Donna at all times, and this was extremely reassuring, as unresponsive vendors can become an added stressor. We chose chocolate and white cake with chocolate ganache for the bottom layer, and lemon cake with raspberry and white chocolate mousse filling for the middle and top layers of our cake, and both were delicious. Everyone raved about our wedding cake! Not only was it gorgeous, and exactly what I envisioned, but it was DELICIOUS! While all of flavors we sampled were delicious, we went a marble cake and chocolate ganache filling one one layer and a white cake with raspberry and white chocolate mousse filling!

Donna was an absolute pleasure to work with. She made the whole process so easy and enjoyable from the cake tasting to delivering the cake on our wedding day. She was prompt in returning all of my emails, and so detailed that she was able to match the fondant ribbon on our cake to the purple shade of my bridesmaids dresses. I knew the wedding cake was one detail I wouldn't have to worry about!

First of all, this cake is delicious! Moist, flavorful and yummy! Secondly she worked with us to make it the perfect centerpiece of our reception. She went above and beyond to make it fit where we needed it to and make it look exactly the way we wanted. The whole experience was a joy! The sister of the groom has never liked cake. She was very open to what design to choose for the cake as long as she had some sort of picture reference. All of the cake samples were delicious to taste, and I am not one to usually like cake. Best Cake EVER! Not only was it stunning it was DELICIOUS. The cake cutting is a big event at any wedding and I'm so thankful I found Cakes by Marida because she made that time super special. I look back on my pictures and awe over how beautiful it was and again SO YUMMY ! The entire process of choosing the flavor, filling and style was a personal experience, she made it so easy. When I first looked at my cake on my wedding day I didn't want to cut into it it was so perfect. One of the things that this survey doesn't really touch on is the most important part, our cake was AMAZING!!!!! Yes, the service and price were also very good but, man this cake was delicious.

Honestly, my wedding was the third time that I had cake from Cakes by Marida. They did a couple of my friends weddings and all of us are extremely pleased with both the cake and the service.

I give them my highest recommendation; this is who you want to do your cake.

Donna did an incredible job with our cake! It was absolutely delicious and just what we wanted. She had a lot of examples and ideas for us during our consultation and a tasty spread of cake samples. She is a joy to work with (and very easy to work with) and we were thankful to have her as part of our wedding!

Donna did such a great job with the cake! It was just what we asked for and beautifully done! It looked great in the photos and I love that she includes a freshly baked mini cake for our anniversary. I would definitely recommend using her!!!!

Donna's creations are sublime! Her exquisite taste and craftsmanship that goes into every event she does truly is a testament to her outstanding skill.

We asked for a cake topper and cupcake accompaniments for our wedding reception. She not only decorated beautifully but fully incorporated our Scottish theme elegantly. The cupcakes were amazing I am sure (at least our guests thought so!). She even was willing to change the full order on the fly and provide some gluten-free options for our gluten-free guests.

Our consultation/tasting was incredible. Donna has incredible taste and great skills at creating a truly magnificent treat for your wedding! Phenomenal!

My wedding cake was absolutely beautiful. Stunning!! I was truly amazed by how great it looked and how much Donna made what I envisioned come true. I used vintage ribbon any my grandparent's cake topper. That with Donna's antique cake pedestal made everything come together beautifully. I also had several guests tell me it was the best wedding cake they've ever had, which is so important! You want it to look great yes, but the whole point is for it to taste delicious. I would highly recommend Cakes by Marida...5 stars!!

Cakes by Marida does an AMAZING job! The owner is friendly and very helpful. The cake was excellent, both in looks and taste!! We received a multitude of complements about how delicious it was :) We chose two flavors: Lemon cake with a filler of raspberry & white chocolate butter cream, and a white cake with a filler of white chocolate butter cream and chocolate ganache.

Donna made us a fantastic cake! We wanted a cake that had a winter feel to match our January wedding, including peaked frosting and pinecone accents. The cake was exactly what we wanted! Not to mention, it was delicious. In fact, it was so delicious, it was gone by the end of the night! Donna was so easy to work with and I was so glad that we went with Cakes by Marida!

I would recommend Cakes by Marida to all my friends and family! There weren't too many things I was picky about for my wedding, but having a great tasting wedding cake was super important to me! I had been to too many weddings where the cake tasted worse than a box cake I could make myself. Cakes by Marida exceeded every expectation I had! The cake tasting was so welcoming and comfortable, and made me SO excited to eat cake on the big day. The prices were reasonable and worth every cent. I got the exact cake I envisioned! This home-based vendor was exactly what I needed: flexible, relaxed, reliable, and DELICIOUS! It seriously was the best cake I have eaten to date. I would go back in a heart beat!

Donna was wonderful to work with and the cake was both beautiful and yummy! She was very helpful in selecting flavors for the cake and even had a ribbon just the right color for the cake! As an extra, she also made a small birthday cake for one of our ushers who was turning 12 on our wedding day. She makes a complimentary top layer for your anniversary so we were able to enjoy the whole cake!

I felt totally comfortable with her from the start and was delighted by the end product!

Donna was wonderful to work with. The taste testing was so much fun and so delicious that it was hard to choose a flavor! I ended up choosing two flavors for different layers. The cake was beautiful and tasted incredible. I know brides are busy at the reception but I stopped everything and tried both flavors. I was extremely pleased with the service I received as well as the final product.

Marida's daughter Donna made my wedding cake and the entire transaction was fabulous. She was absolutely professional in every aspect, from the cake testing, the appointments we made, the requests I had, the timeliness, etc etc. She had beautifully laid out cake designs, several tasty options and was more than willing to work with the customizations I requested. It came out more beautiful than I imagined, and all of my guests complimented how good it was. So moist! (And we had 3 different flavors, so I know that Donna is consistent in every layer, in every flavor). It was beautiful, right on time and my husband I would recommend Cakes by Marida to anyone and everyone. She will not disappoint. :)

When looking for a wedding cake, I had been told by many people that I would have to choose a cake that focused on either flavor or appearance. I delayed making a decision about my wedding cake and, with only 3 weeks to go, I surfed the internet and found Cakes by Marida -- and made arrangements for a tasting. Donna Lovett accommodated 2 schedule changes and 3 cake requests, and made the entire experience a total success. Her cakes, fillings and icings are incredible, and the decorating is wonderful. She is totally professional, and I never doubted the cake would be beautiful. My guests were overwhelmed by how wonderful the cake tasted, and we received lots of compliments. My wedding cake by Donna was AMAZING. The moment I tasted her cake I said wheres the contract. I had been to so many cake tasting that I probably put on 5 pounds just tasting cake. I could not find a cake good enough. But leave it to Donna and she takes the cake! Donnas cake was perfect. It was so moist and not to sweet. I actually had some guests at my wedding ask if they could get her info. My cake was more beautiful than i even imagined it to be. Donna was so kind and considerate and paid attention to every detail to what I wanted. My cake was absolutely beautiful. I cant wait to eat it again on my one year anniversary!!!

Donna made our wedding cake...it was absolutely stunning! I couldn't have dreamed of a more beautiful cake. I provided Donna with a photo from a magazine of the design we wanted, and she not only captured it, it was even more detailed and precise than the picture! We felt an instant connection with Donna when we met with her at her home (actually her mother's home, Marida) in Herndon, VA. She showed us many samples of cake shapes, designs, sizes, etc. in the basement where she has styrofoam models of cakes. It was quite an impressive display! She also has photo albums of cakes she as created. Donna was exceptionally easy to work with; she is flexible and really wants to create exactly what you envision. She was very responsive through email (would hear back from her within a few hours), and she had a very positive "can-do" attitude. When I first presented her with the cake design photo I wanted, she was very honest and said she had never designed a cake like that before but she would be happy to try...and the end result turned out 10 times better than the photo! On top of her professionalism, Donna's prices are the most reasonable in the area (believe me, I met with 4 other bakers!) and her cake was by far the most moist and delicious! Excellent experience all around. Please don't pass up the opportunity to work with this vendor. Happy tasting! :)

Marida is amazing! We wanted a simple cake and she was able to do this for an outstanding price. My husband and I tried several cakes and he could not keep his fork away from hers, especially her spice cake. We tried so many that we up to $9 a slice she was less than $4 and it was so moist and tasty. She also made our grooms cake and we loved it. She is an amazing persona as well as pastry chef. We are so happy to have her as a part of our day.

I would highly recommend this company to anyone interested in wedding cake. They have very good prices and the cake is DELICIOUS! On top of that, the woman who ran the company when I first booked was the sweetest woman I had ever met. About a month before the wedding, she took ill and her daughter had to step in for her to make our cake. The cake was absolutely gorgeous, better than I ever imagined it woudl turn out, and her daugther did a great job of stepping in and working with us. We were very impressed with this vendor and can't wait to eat our top layer of the cake!

Marida came highly recommended and for very good reason! We met with her twice before the wedding. At our first meeting, we tasted her delicious samples and chose white cake with white chocolate mousse and raspberry filling for our wedding cake, and then chocolate cake with chocolate ganache for the supplementary sheet cakes. (Marida offered for us to have a smaller wedding cake and then some sheet cakes to cut up in the back. She charges a flat rate for the sheet cakes and it made the most sense for us, budget-wise.) We met with her a second time to give her our cake topper and discuss the design and we left with a sample of her chocolate coca-cola cake! It was a super delicious cake. She was definitely one of my favorite vendors.

Marida was either the 2nd or 3rd cake vendor that we met up with in person but probably the 4th cake vendor that we had the cake tasting from. I enjoyed looking at her sample cakes at home and my then fiancee and I had a great time doing the cake tasting at her house. She worked with me on the different tier designs that I wanted on my cake and the monogram that I wanted for it along with a mini Tiffany box on my 2nd tier that was to go along with my theme wedding. I highly recommend Cakes by Marida.

I cannot say enough about Cakes by Marida! Our cake was soo gorgeous it really looked like a centerpiece. Donna was so friendly and personable when we met. She didn't pressure us into anything! She let us sample whatever flavor we wanted, and said she can do any decor work at no extra cost. She even put the flowers on the cake for us! So was so flexible and responsive working with me! I changed my mind so many times about this cake( you know crazy bride) , and Donna was always pleasant, flexible & quick to offer suggestions. Not only was our cake beautiful but it was delicious! We had a four layer cake and each layer a different flavor (no extra cost). Everyone loved it!!

"Cakes By Marida" was an excelled vendor for my wedding. The baker replicated a beautiful design that I had prechosen (except I had to accommodate my own floral pieces), and delivered my cake to my location. She can make a cake of any size/shape, however many layers, even multiple flavors. She has a sample book of design ideas (which most designs look outdated), and size/shape models. I recommend bringing your own ideas. The business is ran out of a home in Herndon, Virginia.

Donna was awesome. She was very responsive to our initial request. She had us over to try various cakes, and we discussed cake and cupcake options. We booked her for our wedding, placed the deposit and we were good to go. All I had left to do was drop off cupcake wrappers and the cake toppers. The cake and cupcakes turned out beautifully and were delicious :)
