It's really hard to put into words the wonder and magic that is Brown Mountain Beach Resort.

My partner and I found BMBR through a wedding planner that we had reached out to in the early stages of planning (shoutout Erin from Plain With Sprinkles!). We live in Asheville, but many of our guests would be coming in from out of town and we wanted to be able to host as many of them onsite as possible. We were looking at summer camp venues but couldn't imagine sticking our 90+ year old grandmas into bunk beds for the weekend.

BMBR was the perfect solution, a better option than we even knew we could imagine. An unbelievably beautiful property with a mix of some private housing with doors that close for the elders was great, and then we had fun jamming big groups of our friends into the bigger yurts. Hot tubs everywhere! Llamas to hang out with! Tubing, swimming, and movies on the beach, oh my!

Kelsey and her team are amazing. I have no idea how they get it all done in a day, but they make it look effortless. Also, there were about 17 kids at the wedding and they were so kid-friendly, with even some onsite babysitting options that my friends and family took advantage of.

What a gift they give to let us share in their little slice of heaven. I think I heard the line "we have to do this again every year" about 1,000 times while I was there. I would choose this venue again and again and again.

Leah, our planner, was great and everything came together seamlessly! The whole team at BMBR is awesome! They love love and you can tell just want the best for all couples and loved ones who come to celebrate!

Whatever glowing description I could muster up to describe our experience with Brown Mountain Beach resort would somehow still fall short of conveying our perfect experience. We planned our wedding from Wisconsin, and with moving, graduation, and new jobs on the horizon, the wedding was low on our priority list for many months. We hired a planner through Brown Mountain, Rachael, who was our life line. We met with her twice via zoom- one initial meeting about 6 months out and again 1 month out from wedding day. She was thorough and knowledgable and helped tie up every lose end we hadn't even considered. We stayed at Brown mountain with all 60 of our guests monday-wednesday. Monday, we all arrived to perfectly clean and STUNNING cabins and yurts. Rachael guided us through unloading the few decorations we brought and got to work using the resort decorations to bring our vision to life. The venue itself is so stunning without additional decoration, we hardly spent a dime on anything extra (and were never made to feel cheap or less than for this decision). The actual wedding day was peaceful and family-filled. We spent the entire day without our phones or other distractions, and simply floated on the river. Elderly relatives enjoyed the shade of the deck, still able to watch the water fun- and all of our friends (and our dog!) played endlessly in the water. Rachael seemlessly kept us on task and perfectly on time as the day progressed. When rain threatened the start time of the ceremony, she and the staff went to every cabin and informed every guest that we would delay the ceremony an hour. I wasn't even slightly phased, the resort kept everything under control, dry, and easy. I was given options and felt supported in any decision I made to move the ceremony inside or wait out the rain. Within the hour, the skies cleared and we were able to have a dreamy ceremony on the beach. After, we ran around with our photographer while our family and friends enjoyed apps and dinner provided by Brown Mountain (INCREDIBLE charcuterie and pizza that everyone raved over). The resort accomidated every dietary concern (and there were many). Everything about this experience was incredible. We were able to spend three days with our community and feel that every penny we spent towards our wedding held purpose. Both my husband and I would recommend this venue to anyone and everyone- communing with family and friends in nature is both intimate and memorable, which is exactly the core of what we wanted our wedding to be. Leaving, all of our guests spoke so highly of the venue and all of the staff and have already discussed visiting again for family vacations in the future! This venue is absolutely the best investment you could make for your wedding day.

If you’re looking to have a wedding in the mountains of North Carolina this is the place! It was better than we could have dreamed of. Brown Mountain Beach Resort exceeded all expectations we had. Kelsey Wallace and her team made our wedding week so that we could truly be present with our family and friends while they made sure everything went as planned. Over 60 of our guests were able to stay on the beautiful property with adventure at our fingertips. Floating the river, kayaking, hiking, driving ATVS and mountain biking was all so easily accessible from the property. The team at BMBR made all of our guests feel so welcomed and taken care of. They helped us host multiple events for our friends and family! We had days of floating the river, a movie night under the stars on the beach, a 4th of July bbq rehearsal with a bluegrass band on the beach and the most magical wedding. We felt so loved at our wedding by not only our guests but also the entire team at BMBR. The staff were professional, organized, kind and so fun! They have created a place that you can truly relax, adventure and have the most epic parties. My husband and I can’t wait to go back to make more memories on many anniversaries to come!

What an amazing venue and the staff is absolutely perfect. They are so kind and helpful and incredibly professional. I had no worries or tasks on our ceremony day but to sit back and relax - they took care of everything and did so much we didn’t even think about. The venue is also breathtaking and a perfect backdrop for a great wedding. We’re already planning a vacation to return soon!

Words cannot describe how perfect this venue is! If you want to have an unconventional wedding, this is the place! We came in Thursday with most of our family and cooked out. Spent Friday on the river and waited for the rest of our guests to come in! With a Saturday morning ceremony and brunch reception, we spent the rest of the day swimming and taking tube trips. The staff was super helpful and attentive.

They made us feel so special on our weekend with them. First, the location is stunning. Peaceful, riverside. Effortlessly gorgeous. Second, the team at BMBR is incredible. They take care of every detail, so that you can be a guest at your own Wedding. They are kind, organized, and really really GOOD at throwing great parties! Their orchestrated teamwork really shines to all who attend. Third, the availability to stay on site really made this party the best ever. No driving, no forgetting anything at a hotel, you can have as much privacy as you need. Best venue EVER to get married!! 10/10 would recommend and do it again. Every. Single. Time.

The absolute best place and people!! Brown mountain beach resort is a literal dream and we are so thankful that we got to have our wedding here! Ron personally gave us a tour of the wedding venue and we knew we had to book immediately and Kelsey was a dream to work with from day one! This family cares so much about this place and their couples and encourages couples to keep it simple and enjoy the time with the ones they love through adventure and unwinding on the river. To say our wedding weekend was the best is an understatement. We LOVE brown mountain beach resort and can't wait to go back and stay soon. Our families and friends were in love with everything about Brown Mountain Beach Resort (even the lack of cell service- which we loved!) Kelsey and her team made sure that everything was perfect for our big day from the moment we arrived on Thursday night to when we left Sunday morning, everything was a dream. Kelsey and her team set-up our lunches for our swim day on Friday while we were enjoying the river which was so unexpected but amazing and allowed us to enjoy every second. We had a bonfire every night, used the tubes, canoes, and stand-up paddleboard all weekend long, and our cabins were amazing. I could write on and on about our amazing experience here, but suffice it to say, Brown Mountain Beach Resort is so special and magical and I cannot imagine a better venue. Book Brown Mountain Beach Resort!! We can't wait to go back soon!

When we got engaged, we knew we wanted a beautiful outdoor location - like a national park, mountain top, or waterfall - but we wanted all our friends and family to be there. Brown Mountain was the absolute perfect venue for couples who want the best of both these worlds. The entire staff there went above and beyond all 4 days we stayed for our wedding weekend. We had bonfires and smores every night, a rehearsal dinner on the beach, and a wedding day on the creek. Our guests loved having tubes, kayaks, and canoes at their disposal. It even rained the day after our wedding and the staff at BMBR made sure to move our BBQ dinner inside so we could all still hang out and eat together. On our wedding day, they drove us to a waterfall down the street and helped us hike and boulder our way there so we could do a private vow exchange and take stunning photos. If you are looking for a gorgeous outdoor venue with plenty of weekend fun for your big day - book Brown Mountain!

We had an amazing time at BMBR! Everything was beautiful, relaxing, and fun. A particular favorite was tubing down the gorge with our guests on Sunday after the wedding. Our friends and family had so much fun that they have decided we need to celebrate our anniversary with everyone back at BMBR every year. Thanks for an incredible wedding experience!

Words can not express how special of a place Brown Mountain Beach resort is. My husband and I recently got married here over Thanksgiving weekend 2020 and everything from the time we booked the venue in 2018 to the moment we left that weekend was perfect (and that is saying a lot considering we got married during a pandemic). Our original date had to be rescheduled due to restrictions and Kelsey made sure that we were able to reschedule everything as stress free as possible! And on that note, if you were not going to hire Kelsey to coordinate everything for your weekend, think again. She is amazing! There was never a time when I was stress during the planning process or even at anytime during the weekend and that was all thanks to Kelsey and her careful planning and execution of every aspect of our weekend. She truly knows BMBR and the wedding process like the back of her hand. If you are looking for a venue that will feel like home and for an experience that you and your guests will never forget, look no further than Brown Mountain! They will make you feel like a part of their family and do everything in their power to give you the weekend/wedding of your dreams :)

We could not have picked a more perfect place, between the views, location, lodging, hospitality, AMAZING staff and just all around beauty of this place I could not be any happier with how our whole weekend went! All of the staff was so incredible and helpful and made sure our wedding was absolutely GORGEOUS! I can not recommend them enough. The pictures are amazing but still don’t even do this place justice. Once we visited once we knew it would be perfect and it lived up to every dream I ever imagined!

SO much to say about BMBR and the team there! The resort is an absolute dream! The cottages and yurts are for perfect mountain getaway and so cute and quaint right on the river. The view from Rock Pavilion is so stunning. The river and the endless activities was so much fun, my kids spent HOURS in the cold water! Kelsey and her team were absolutely incredible. The flexibilty and attenditiveness to basically replan a wedding due to COVID was a stress relief. Any thing you need they can help with, from vendors, to decor ideas, and layout of the wedding. They were our eyes and ears as we were a destination wedding and didnt live near the resort and everything went so so well.

We stayed at BMBR multiple times before our wedding and we were so accomodated by the staff and our wedding planner! This venue is so gorgeous with ample space for guests to stay on site! Everyone is so experienced with weddings and everything on our big day was FLAWLESS, I tell you, amazing. We couldn't have gotten luckier finding this beautiful spot. A river, cabins, yurts, a beach, so much history!

Kelsey and her father were so warm and welcoming. I was immediately relieved of some of my wedding planning stress. There was no rushing around the property. My mother and I were taken around and told the history of the place and some of the perks of having my wedding there. It is so gorgeous and peaceful. A perfectly relaxing setting for something that is often so stressful. Kelsey has been wonderful throughout my whole planning process and is very prompt with her responses and offers insightful advice. It has been for me such a wonderful experience.

If you have any doubts at all at where to get married, this is the place. Everything was PERFECTION. Kelsey did an unbelievable job coordinating absolutely everything.. I walked onto the property the Thursday of my wedding and didn't have to think about a single thing until I left. Kelsey understands a brides vision perfectly and executes it flawlessly. From the food, to the lighting, to the music, to the florals, to the alpacas! The most beautiful, scenic venue with people who are kind and will bend over backwards to make sure your wedding day (or weekend!) is perfect. I cannot say enough about this place or the people who made my wedding happen. I have so many memories to last a lifetime because I didn't have to worry about a thing but focusing on my family and friends. Having my wedding here was the best decision I could have made. We just got married at BMBR and the whole experience was amazing, we feel so lucky to have chosen this venue! The setting is stunning and peaceful, and the perfect place to relax with your guests. We hired Kelsey to help us with the planning and coordination, which I highly recommend! She made the planning process easy and organized, and she and her staff are talented and creative with the styling and decor. They were also very flexible when a major storm came through, moving everything inside and making it so beautiful you would never know it wasn’t what we originally planned. Our whole weekend was magical, we really got to focus on each other and our guests and not worry about the details.

Our daughter was married at Brown Mountain Beach Resort on April 13, 2019. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to have a wedding! This is the best venue if you’re looking for a picturesque, mountain wedding. It’s a plus that you can stay right on site and enjoy a weekend in a cottage or yurt right on Wilson Creek and hear the sounds of the flowing river. We enjoyed the rehearsal dinner in the unique Speak Easy and had a huge bonfire on the beach. On Saturday the wedding ceremony was right on the beach. Fun was had by all. Kelsey and her family and staff went out of their way to accommodate any needs we had. They also had many beautiful props for us to use which was a big help. (Cake or cupcake display, wedding favor display, easels, kegerator, canopy, etc). Ron even helped one of our relatives get their car free when it got stuck by accidentally running over a tree stump. So very kind! We used a company called Tin Can Co. for a photo booth in a vintage VW Van. Our guests enjoyed this and the BMBR venue very very much! I highly recommend Brown Mountain Beach Resort. It’s a great value and will provide an unforgettable wedding experience.

My husband and I were married at Brown Mountain Beach Resort on November 17th. The only thing I regret is that it has taken me a month to let you all know how absolutely AMAZING the venue and the staff are at BMBR. Actually, absolutely amazing is quite an understatement. Kelsey, Jeremy, Ron, and Wendy (and the whole crew of course) made our day beyond perfect! We could not have asked for anything more- they met and exceeded our expectations for what we had envisioned for our day. Our whole family was able to come and stay onsite with us and we were able to just enjoy their company and spend time together because Kelsey and her crew handled everything for us! They wanted us to just relax and enjoy the scenery- and because of them, we were able to. And what a breath taking scenery it is! The entire setup was beautiful and the food was exceptional! We had our rehearsal in the speakeasy, our wedding ceremony on the deck, and the reception in the Rock Pavilion. The creek and the view in the background were breathtaking. We had originally planned to have our wedding on the beach but Mother Nature had other plans and put most of the beach under water…Kelsey and Jeremy didn’t even stress about it- they changed the plan and set everything up on the deck and it was beyond perfect and gorgeous!!! BMBR handled almost everything for us- the food, all the flowers, the decorations and setup, the bartenders, the catering staff, the cleanup… if you can name it, they probably did it for us…and if there was something they did not do, they had a list of available vendors who were exceptional as well! We used DJ Julius Hoke (fantastic DJ!) and My Mobile Bakery for the cupcakes, cake, and grooms cake (also amazing!). Both of these vendors were recommended by Kelsey and they exceeded our expectations as well. I may be a little biased but I have been to a ton of weddings and I have never been as wowed and impressed as I was by the beauty of this venue and the entire wedding weekend. I have had many people go on and on about how incredible this was and that it was truly the most amazing wedding they have ever attended. I couldn’t agree more with those people. All the details (big and small) and all the thoughtfulness they put into our day will never be forgotten and will always be cherished. From the donut and coffee bar, the fires, the smores, the décor, the flowers, the heavenly Pasta bar for the reception, (Wendy cooked all of it and the alfredo sauce put most of the Italian restaurants to shame), the appetizers, just everything!! If you have an opportunity to book your wedding at BMBR, you would be crazy not to. If you are unable to book your wedding there, I highly encourage you to just visit…take your family…. And enjoy a vacation! This will most definitely be a place we visit throughout the years with each other and with our children. We got married at BMBR a month ago. We planned the whole thing from Wilmington, NC. We weren’t exactly sure what to expect since we had only visited twice. Everything turned out to be even more than we had hoped for, it was perfect. When our family arrived earlier in the week the beach was washed out, but Ron worked all week to make sure it was back intact for the wedding. They even raked it smooth for us. Ron was super cooperative, and responsive as I called him every day the week leading up to the wedding. Most of the wedding guests were able to stay in the cabins and yurts and it was great to have everyone there all weekend. We would do it all over again and not change a thing. Julie was incredible, and is an absolute must if you’re planning an event here. She provided a wonderful list of vendors for us to work with. Once we got to the venue we didn’t have to do anything except enjoy time with our friends and family and each other. Her staff was friendly and did a great job as well. We had guests say that it was the best venue they had ever been to. There were campfires on the beach, hiking, fishing, we even went tubing the morning of the wedding. Love love love BMBR.

Loved every minute at Brown Mountain Beach Resort! It's was everything I never knew I wanted and needed. A rustic venue with a mountain view with a private beach area, what more can anyone need. The cabins are very comfortable and well kept. The scenery speaks for itself, so I will comment mainly on the owners and staff. Immediately I was greeted by friendly faces the moment I arrived, and that kind of hospitality persisted every trip I made there before the wedding. I can not stress enough how amazing Julie, the coordinator, was the entire time! Anything I asked for or needed, she made happen. She delivered the dream wedding I never imagined. My family and I felt so at home. Not many places afford you and only you, the entire property for the whole weekend. There is no better value, service, or memories made than a wedding at Brown Mountain Beach! We can't wait to get back because we never wanted to leave.

Brown Mountain Beach Resort is absolutely enchanting! It seems like just yesterday my wife Chelsea and I were meeting with Ron and Julie to discuss potentially having our wedding there. The first thing we noticed was how stunningly beautiful it was. Many other venues seek to artificially create the wonderfully natural look and feel that BMBR so casually possesses. Serene mountains are the backdrop for a series of unique, cozy cottages along the banks of a magnificent river. The second thing we noticed was what genuine and thoughtful people lived and worked there. The entire staff is extremely friendly and making sure that you have an enjoyable stay is always their top priority.
Roughly one year after that initial meeting, Chelsea and I held our wedding at Brown Mountain Beach Resort. The best way we can describe it now, a month later, is that it feels like a wonderful dream that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. Our closest family and friends stayed in the cabins from Thursday through Sunday; enjoying terrific weather, hiking on the nearby trails, and rafting up and down the river. We held a rehearsal dinner in the reception hall and Ron was extremely generous in allowing us free rein of the property.
The wedding itself was simply perfect! Julie served as our coordinator, transforming into Wonder Woman and turning all of our thoroughly planned details into a living, breathing reality. The resort staff leaped into action as our guests enjoyed a cocktail hour on the outdoor patio. Our ceremony and reception went exactly as we had hoped and imagined! We capped off the evening by roasting s’mores by the river. ;-) Many of our guests told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to! As for us, we never imagined how relaxing our wedding could be; an ideal getaway and celebration of love with the people we adore. We had an absolutely wonderful wedding weekend at Brown Mountain Beach Resort. We rented the entire venue for the whole weekend. Having all of our friends and family stay together in such a beautiful place was a magical experience. Ron and Wendy went above and beyond throughout the entire process, and made the experience a pleasure! They were available 24/7 in the months before and during the wedding to make sure that everything went off without a hitch. They are genuine, family-oriented folks whose only goal was to make sure we had the wedding of our dreams - which we did! We made memories to last a lifetime at BMBR.

My husband and I chose Brown Mountain Beach Resort as our venue in November and set our date for May. THIS PLACE IS EVERY BRIDE'S DREAM AT AN EXCELLENT AND VERY REASONABLE PRICE. What more could you want? You get a discount on the venue if you rent out all of the cabins for the weekend, so we decided to do it and I am so glad that we did! I got to have 30 of my family members, closest friends, and the wedding party stay on the grounds for the entire weekend and it was truly wonderful and a mountain weekend we will never forget.
By looking through the pictures, you would think that the scenery is the best part of the resort, but it is not...the staff and owners are the best part of this place. Their Godly and positive attitude, willingness to accommodate, love for natures beauty, and experience in weddings is what made our day all that we could have ever asked for. My wedding day was absolutely perfect. It was beautiful and I could not think of one thing that I would have done differently.
We hired Kelsey McDaniel as our wedding coordinator and decorator and she went absolutely above and beyond for us. She purchased all of our flowers, chairs, food, linens, and place settings and made it absolutely beautiful. One of the best things about BMBR is that they give you the week before to come in and out at your discretion to decorate and prepare for your big day where as most vendors only allow 1-6 hours before. They have 300 mason jars, burlap everything, old dressers and antique ladders, a beautiful stick arch with chandeliers, and flowers that they freely give to you as a part of your venue fees. This gave me and my family such a sense of relaxation on my wedding day not having to worry about anything but ourselves.
I have nothing but awesome things to say about BMBR and the staff. It is a beautiful place with a hard-working staff and I would choose them 100 more times over. I recommend every bride to consider them for their wedding.

Bmbr is a beautiful place filled with great memories for my family. The scenery is unmatched and the fact that you can have the whole resort for your wedding party is very cool.

We searched for quite a while for a venue for my daughter's January wedding. The choice of BMBR could not have been more perfect. The setting was amazing. The owners and staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. The wedding was pure rustic elegance! If you are looking for natural splendor BMBR is your location.

We almost got married at this venue, but even though we didn't we were still able to have them be a part of our big day. Kelsey is amazing and they were so great to work with. We rented their tables, benches, shutters, etc from their venue. A couple had cancelled and they had the items available and were willing to let us rent them. I was so glad because I was in love with the table and well really the whole venue! It is so beautiful out there and so relaxing. We are planning on taking a trip there every year because they are so close, but you feel like you are in a totally different place when you are there. BMBR would be the perfect place for not only a wedding, but a reunion, seminar, family getaway, honeymoon, or just a night. It is a little piece of Heaven out there managed by amazing people. I can't say enough good things about them. Thank you guys so much, you are great!!!!

My husband and I were married at BMBR on June 17th. Kelsey and her team provided the most captivating wedding you could imagine!! We had an open line of communication throughout the planning process which eased ALOT of stress planning from Jacksonville, FL. I am not much of a planner but she made it easy, providing vendor recommendations (ALL of which exceeded my expectations!), offering suggestions, and making sure we covered all the essentials. Family is important to my husband and I and BMBR provided the PERFECT venue for a wedding and vacation all in one. We feel so blessed to have been able to get married here. We rented out all the cottages & yurts from Sun-Thurs. With the wedding on Monday, it gave us two days afterwards to visit and spend time with family and take advantage of more time on Wilson creek. 35 of our 140 guests were children under 13 so this venue provided a perfect environment for both families to come together and celebrate. From the time we checked in she made sure we had everything we needed. Ron checked in on us and made us feel right at home. The day of the wedding her and her staff did everything they could to make my dream beach wedding happen! Battling an afternoon storm, they were able to keep things moving to entertain guests in the Rock Pavilion while keeping myself and the bridal party comfortable long enough to wait out the rain. The location is beautiful as is but Kelsey and her staff did all the set-up and decorating the day of the wedding to make it perfect. Also worth pointing out is the large inventory of decor they have for us brides to use is an awesome benefit if you are like me and don't have time or the skill to go all ham on some Pinterest projects before your big day! I highly recommend this venue. Not only was it perfect for my husband and I, but it felt even better to have so many family members and guests rave about how amazing their experience at my wedding venue was for them and their families. (I had several family members ask if we could get married again next summer) Amazing job Kelsey and company we appreciate everything you did to make our day so special!!!! LOOOOOOOVE this place.

BMBR had a very rustic and relaxing feel. The views of Wilson Creek are beautiful and make the perfect backdrop for an outdoor beach/creek wedding! The site is very conducive for guests who enjoy camping!

My husband and I got married at Brown Mountain Beach Resort in July, 2013 and our experience with this venue was nothing short of fantastic! Kelsey McDaniel, who manages and coordinates events held at Brown Mountain was every bride's dream. She literally helped me make my Pinterest board into reality while keep our wedding budget-friendly. She assisted with coordinating all wedding vendors, arranged our flowers and decor and assisted with scheduling for the wedding day and rehearsal dinner. Brown Mountain also catered dinner for our wedding which was delicious! The neat thing about Brown Mountain is that when you rent the venue, you rent so many unique spaces on the property that can be used throughout your wedding weekend. We were able to go tubing down the river on the morning of our wedding which was an absolute blast! While we definitely loved the family-oriented and local feel to the venue, we also wanted to make sure that our reception would be a great party! My family is from the Caribbean and so a wedding isn't really a wedding until the party has started! Luckily, Brown Mountain also met our expectations in this area and we were able to stay on the dance floor late into the night. As an indication of just how much we love this place.. My husband and I recently went back to stay in the cabins for our 7 month anniversary/ Valentine's Day. I bursted into tears (with happiness) as we arrived! Such amazing memories to be made here at Brown Mountain Beach Resort.

This is the perfect venue for any bride looking for a romantic outdoor setting. The staff was more than happy to help with any planning needs, and they do offer packages including catering, decor, etc. We had already booked those services when we found Brown Mountain which is the only reason we did not use them. In fact we had already booked another location but changed venues because I fell in love when we stopped by to check it out as a potential rehearsal dinner space. I would recommend renting the cabins as well, this ensures your guests will have exclusive uses of the grounds and private beach, as well as giving them the option of staying over in one of the rooms.

My husband and I got married here almost 1 year ago, the weekend before Christmas! (Better late then never...?)
We wanted a wedding weekend that was in nature and could be a place for our family and wedding party to stay. This was a perfect fit! We felt relaxed and at home the first time we visited. It was a place where we could be ourselves and where our wedding weekend vision was heard by both Ron and Julie. They helped us stick with our budget and fit everything in. We had Friday rehearsal dinner, Saturday afternoon wedding, cocktails and full dinner/dancing reception, and Sunday brunch. We rented the entire place and had enough room for our wedding party and family to stay there for the whole time. Julie did a great job catching my vision and bringing it to reality. They have a lot of great rustic/quant/Pinterest decorations there to use at no additional cost! She coordinated the rentals and flowers.
Our only problem was the weather...it hit below freezing for a few nights (below 20 the first night) and we learned that although the cabins and lodge have fireplaces, they are not fully winterized. Ron and his staff were quick to help with extra heaters. It was unusually cold for that time which can’t be controlled. If you’re thinking of a winter wedding I’d suggest talking through weather options with Ron on your visit. We live in Chicago so we can’t speak to the typical winter weather in the area but we know it is not typically that cold. But for the one freak weekend that gets so cold, most of the buildings struggle to provide a comfortable temp even with the fires going and extra heaters.
Our hope is that the buildings will continue to be improved for future winter weddings because it is a magical place to get married. On the positive side, our guests loved it, laughed off the cold, and embraced the beautiful setting, venue, and celebration.

Nestled against the backdrop of the Pisgah National Forest, BMBR lay along the winding creek bed of Wilson Creek Gorge (although it resembles more of a river than a creek) endowing those lucky enough to witness the creek and Pisgah timberline with pure serenity.
Brown Mountain Beach Resort’s main attraction is centered around its coveted Rock Pavilion and the pavilion’s speakeasy bar below. From the surrounding gardens and sprawling deck, guests have a view and access of the Resort’s well-kept sand beach, providing onlookers a spectacular view upstream as couples exchange their vows against the rambling vista of the creek, old wood forest, and hazy mountains.
My wife and I rented the entirety of the resort for a wedding weekend, filling all the cabins and yurts as well as one of the RV hookup sites. All our guests quickly found themselves right at home, with all accommodations having kitchenettes and full baths, most cabins having their hot tubs overlooking the lazily flowing creek, comfortable beds, and soft linens, as well as clean and tidy confines. Each cabin and yurt are unique; bespoke décor paying homage to local culture and heritage along with easy access to every part of the resort and its features, no matter the location of the accommodation on the property.
The staff of Brown Mountain Beach Resort is reminiscent of your favorite relatives you don’t often get to visit. The proprietor of the resort, Ron, is a genuine soul who wants nothing more than to share the majesty, that is his little slice of heaven, with those who find it. Ron’s daughter, Kelsey, who has begun to take the operational reigns of the resort, mirrors her father’s confidence, work ethic, and honest personality. Her and Ron’s shared vision being evident in the continuing improvements to the resort, which were made in the year between our reservation being set and the wedding weekend itself.
My wife and I arrived on the Thursday before our wedding weekend to unwind, unpack, and begin decorating. We found our cabin to be clean, comfortable and cozy in a delightful way. The gas log fireplace was a great touch to take the chill out of the evening air, especially after a dip in the hot tub. We had no issue with open access to the Venue and cabins to prepare for our guests’ arrival (drop off welcome baskets etc.). Upon our arrival, Kelsey and her staff helpfully assisted with the unloading of décor and luggage; from there my wife and I made the 25-minute trip to the town of Lenoir, where we purchased some extra supplies for the weekend. That night we grilled burgers on the gas grill out on our cabin’s deck (every cabin has a grill!) and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Wilson Creek Gorge’s autumn embrace.
Friday, our guests began to arrive, as my wife and I decorated for the coming celebration. The check-in process was relatively laissez-faire and to each their own, as our guests trickled in throughout the day. That evening, BMBR prepared a delightful supper of wood-fired pizza, as our guests and ourselves all enjoyed one another’s company. We were served beer and wine by the A+ staff of ____, hired out by BMBR. The revelry continued well into the evening as guests were able to come and go at their leisure.
Saturday was filled with food and fun in the sun (and some nursing of hangovers) as our guests were left to their own devices. Some fished and kayaked while others went on hikes, some helped my wife and I tie together some final decorating details, while others enjoyed being outside, away from cell phone service with an endless supply of spirits.
Our ceremony was everything we could have dreamt of and more, the weather cooperated for our outdoor ceremony on the beach, in the mountains (how spectacular is that?). Our vendors, who were primarily recommended by BMBR, all worked in perfect harmony, and the evening's festivities went off without a hitch.
Our reception was held in the Rock Pavilion, followed by cocktails and live entertainment in the speakeasy. Our celebration carried well into the night, ending on the beach under the stars, sharing stories and smoking cigars. In summation, the weekend was absolute perfection, especially given this being a “destination wedding” for most of our guests, my heart hums with happiness just reflecting on it all.
Sunday check out was late enough for a leisurely pace, following breakfast in the Rock Pavilion. Our guests, well-fed and thoroughly tuckered out after a weekend of matrimonial celebration, went along their merry way, and we followed right behind.
All told, BMBR was the perfect location for our wedding, my wife even declared so in her vows. While the rural site is not the setting for everyone’s tastes and vision for their wedding, BMBR knows what they have and shares it with pride and grace not found with corporate venues and larger establishments. Just as with any event which spans many days involving a multitude of people, hiccups happened, but where adeptly overcame and managed. My wife and I, while we are joyous to be done with the preparation and planning of the event, have exchanged a piece of our heart and soul with the McDaniel family, who so graciously share their little corner of the world with love and care.
