East Asian Hair & Makeup Expertise - Soft and Natural Beauty
Sarah is truly incredible! From the very beginning, she made me feel so taken care of and was so thoughtful throughout the entire process. It’s always a challenge to find a hair and makeup artist who understands East Asian features and hair, but Sarah exceeded every expectation. On the wedding day, we were running behind due to indecisiveness in my party, yet she managed the situation so gracefully while still prioritizing my hair and makeup. And I will say it’s quite impressive that everyone was happy with their look because I had some hard-to-please individuals.
She stayed through my morning ceremony for touch-ups (something I’ll never regret booking her for) because with all the emotions and tears, it was absolutely necessary for our private shoot afterward. She even prepared a small touch-up kit for me to use later in the evening for the reception. I couldn’t have asked for a more professional, skilled, and caring artist. Sarah is a dream to work with, and she made me feel so beautiful on my wedding day! -

Sarah and her assistant Colleen were so professional and amazing to work with and made me and my bridesmaids feel so beautiful, flawless and SNATCHED on my wedding day! I wanted a Vintage Glamour look with Hollywood waves and full glam makeup and Sarah beyond delivered. She listened to my feedback after our trial, which I initially wanted a bold lip, but changed my mind and on my wedding day she pulled off a more dramatic eye with neutral lip for the ceremony and gave me a sample of the bolder lip color that I was able to apply for the reception. It was a great makeup change solution to go along with my reception dress change. Sarah uses high quality products and creates flawless skin tone matching (especially for Asian skin tones which I was looking for) - I looked airbrushed, it was insane! My girls who all wanted varying makeup/hair styles were also so happy with their looks and said that Sarah and Colleen were some of the best MUAs they've ever worked with. My wedding vision came to life and I've never felt more beautiful in my entire life, and I have Sarah to 100% thank for that. Book her now, you won't regret it! -

Sarah was an absolute joy to work with. I LOVED my wedding day look: I knew exactly what I wanted, and Sarah helped make my vision come to life. Sarah came highly recommended to me by a friend and I am so grateful that I had the chance to work with her for my wedding!! She is incredibly kind and has such a calming presence - she put me at ease throughout the trial process as well as the day of the wedding. I had initial concerns about my hair and skin being able to cooperate on a hot humid day but Sarah was able to work her magic and made me feel BEAUTIFUL on the day of the wedding. She went above and beyond on every detail and I loved everything about my look. My hair and makeup stayed put and looked amazing all night despite all dancing, crying, sweating etc. She also did my mother and MIL. My mother changed her mind about her hair in the middle of her session and Sarah was able to adjust quickly without missing a beat! Both my mother and MIL received compliments all night about their looks and they couldn't be happier!! -

Sarah was an awesome hair/makeup artist for our wedding. Incredibly efficient working with Colleen to get my bridesmaids and moms ready for the day. Sarah quelled all my fears about looking too much especially since all the makeup artists I've experienced before definitely made me look like a drag queen of sorts. Sarah worked with me to keep my face looking still me and as natural as possible and elegant on camera. Sarah also provided good suggestion about my hair style the day of and I am so happy I listened to her. If you're looking for natural and elegant without too over the top, Sarah and Colleen are your go to. -

tl;dr: Book Sarah for your events if you can! She is amazing.
Sarah was my hair and makeup artist for my wedding in the Capital City Area (outside of Albany, NY), and was incredible to work with. She was always very responsive, detail oriented, thoughtful, and well versed in her craft. She came highly recommended to me because my friends knew I am meticulous about planning and quality of service, and Sarah more than delivered! Leading up to the wedding day, I never felt stressed or worried about managing my vendor relationship with her. Planning the details was very easy with Sarah. I originally was not sure if I wanted to book Sarah because I wasn't sure that her portfolio look was what I wanted (and I balked a bit at the cost), but I was won over by her thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and openness to my asks and feedback. This was really important to me, especially as I had poor experiences with other hair and makeup artists at weddings in the past, both in terms of overall look and feedback.
Sarah made me feel so incredibly beautiful on my wedding day (and trial). I loved her philosophy of enhancing your natural beauty. I really enjoyed my trial session with her -- it was so fun spending that time with Sarah! -- and the day-of, Sarah was very professional. I also booked services for my mother and mother-in-law, and Sarah was very good in managing them and helping them feel beautiful. My mother can be quite particular and seemingly impossible standards at times and she adored Sarah's work and even asked about her weeks later. On the other end of the spectrum, my mother-in-law is not very comfortable with hair and makeup, and Sarah put her at ease.
Finally, I teared up a lot on my wedding day and also danced a LOT (enough that the bustle on my dress broke), but my makeup and hair stayed put and looked great by the end of the night. Sarah's work and recommendations are wonderful and I would highly recommend her to anyone, and especially Asian brides! -

Sarah is amazing!!! As a Korean-American, I knew it was important to work with a hair artist who was deeply familiar with asian hair. Luckily, I was referred to Sarah by my makeup artist, Ann of All Brides New York! I remember my first phone call with Sarah very well, she's so personable, is obviously very talented, and also happens to be Korean! The trial went great, with only a couple of adjustments requested on my end between the trial and wedding, and I really appreciated working with Sarah and asking for her advice from her wealth of experience. She also did the rest of the getting-ready party's hair and customized each look to enhance the individuality of the person - included my mom, my mother-in-law, and 3 sisters (with very individual styles). I am SO in love with the hair style that she put together and everyone ooh'd and ahh'd my hair all day and night. Thank you Sarah!!! I can't wait to work with you again! -

I can't speak highly enough about Sarah and Coleen! I spent a long time searching for a HMUA for my destination wedding in Asheville, NC who was experienced with Asian hair and features and had a hard time finding a good fit when I was just looking at vendors local to Asheville, especially since I have thick wavy hair that hair dressers in the US are often surprised by, and just from my initial phone call with Sarah I felt really reassured. Covering travel costs was an additional expense to consider but my fiance and his mom made the good point that hair and makeup is pretty important since it's how you'll look both the whole day and in the pictures you'll look back on in years to come.
I'd heard that a common wedding regret is not looking like yourself on your wedding day, and during our trial Sarah took a lot of care to tweak the look until it felt like me and responded to feedback I had after the trial. On the day of my wedding, I couldn't have been happier with my hair and makeup -- I looked like the best version of myself!
My bridesmaids were all really impressed with their hair and makeup as well, and Sarah and Coleen really went the extra mile with making sure both my mom (doesn't wear makeup ever) and my now-husband's mom (only speaks Korean) were comfortable during the whole process and happy with their looks.
Sarah and Coleen are also both so easy and fun to be around -- it was so great having them there for the day! -

I was so happy I hired Sarah for my wedding. Like many others, I was drawn to Brides by SB for their approach to hair and makeup. I wanted to feel like the best version of myself on my wedding day and Sarah's approach to skincare, hair and makeup helped me to feel that way. She looked at my inspiration photos, helped to talk through what I wanted and created a beautiful look on my wedding day.
Sarah's presence and demeanor are exactly what you need on your wedding day. She has a very calming presence and you feel well taken care of. I felt confident that she was tracking our schedule and making sure everyone would be done at the right time and it allowed me to relax during the getting ready process. My mom, sister, and friends all commented on how great the energy was while Sarah and Coleen were doing our hair and makeup. I would highly recommend working with Sarah and Brides by SB for your wedding or any other important event. -

I found Sarah after my initial hair and make up person fell through, and even though her packages were more than what I had budgeted for on H&MU, it was worth locking her in for our wedding. Sarah is so easy to work with, and she communicated very well along the way (which I was so grateful for and impressed by considering she's got 2 little ones). I really appreciated the questionnaires she sent along the way to get the conversation going about looks and styles, and the attention she paid to each person's skin type and skincare routine. From our first phone call together I felt at ease with her immediately and knew that I could trust her. Half of my bridal party were Asians, so it was important to us to find someone who understood how to work with those features (you'd be surprised, I've gotten professional hair and make up done by Asian artists that I did not like!)
During our trial and even on the morning of, Sarah took time chatting with each person about the process and the styles we were looking for, I think this put everyone at ease and helped those who were indecisive make a decision about what they wanted. Most of my bridesmaids do not wear make up on the regular, so they were so pleased when they got glammed up but still looked and felt like themselves. I have to admit even for myself that at the end of the night, I was a little bummed to take everything off because of how much I liked the look. One of my bridesmaid had short hair but wanted an updo to keep her hair out of her face, and Sarah and her assistant Colleen worked magic to achieve just that.
The moms also had their hair and make up done, and overall we were just so pleased and grateful to Sarah for being willing to travel up to us in the Hudson Valley to complete our wedding looks. -

While researching for an Asian hair and makeup artist, I found Sarah and I am so glad I went with her for my wedding. Sarah plays attention to detail and listens to what the bride wants. I booked Sarah for my BMs, MOB, MOG, and Groom. Everyone was really satisfied with the end results. During the trial and wedding, I told Sarah my skin was dry and she used a face mask for both times. My lips were also cracking and dry during wedding day and she used a lip cream that moisturized my lips instantly.
For my hair, I definitely wanted hair extensions and Sarah managed to find ones that matched perfectly with my hair. I was so excited! I was going for a long wavy look, kinda like Rapunzel but not as long. She did exactly what I was imagining. I didn’t opt for touches during the rest of the wedding but my hair and makeup stayed perfect the whole day.
For the makeup, I wanted a more sophisticated natural look. I typically don’t do much for makeup, so I was a bit nervous when I booked Sarah for makeup as well. I thought about doing my own makeup but since it was my wedding, I wanted to look more special than I usually do. Sarah did a perfect job. The eyelash extensions were very natural looking and my makeup did not look powdery or cakey. I am so honored to have Sarah at my wedding.

After two trials with different artists that I didn't feel quite captured the look I was seeking, I found Brides by SB and knew that my third time would be the charm. And boy did Sarah deliver! She brought my vision to life for the trial and exceeded what I could have hoped for for the Wedding through the minor adjustments we discussed post-trial.
Before the trial, Sarah has you fill out a survey where you describe yourself and what you desire for the wedding through various prompts. During the trial, she asks you questions on preference for every step - and I really appreciated this. She takes the time to get to know exactly what you want so that she can make it happen with her expertise. We achieved a natural shimmery make-up base paired with a textured bun, with a braid worked in from one side, and a few curls let loose to frame the face.
I'm so very grateful to have been the happiest bride knowing that I looked as great as I felt on my wedding day, and I received so many compliments on how stunning I looked, which would not have been possible without Sarah. -

Sarah is the best! Before my makeup trial she sent a questionnaire about my skin condition, photos of myself, and my hair/makeup inspiration- immediately I could tell she was professional and on point. Day of my makeup trial she made me feel so comfortable, addressed my skin concerns, and worked with me to achieve the perfect look, plus we had a fun time chatting and listening to music. On the BIG DAY, she arrived early to the venue with her colleague Colleen, set up an incredible studio including lighting, and made me and my 4 bridesmaids beautiful!! She worked efficiently and stuck to the timeline. HIGHLY recommend. -

I had a makeup trial with Sarah before my wedding and she was so friendly and was genuinely concerned for my skin! Thanks to her, I upped my skin care routine in time for my wedding. Sarah did my bridal makeup and my mom's makeup beautifully. We got tons of compliments and my makeup lasted all day. I would definitely recommend her, especially those looking for someone who knows Asian features. -
Patty Sent on 02/18/2018Brides by SB is a wedding dream team! Not only are Sarah and Brenda incredible hair and makeup artists, but they're SO fun to work with. They really get to know you and your style and use that to guide what they create on you.
For hair, I wanted something soft and romantic and — having seen one too many stuffy updos — originally thought about keeping it down, but the one that Sarah created was a unanimous yes during my trial. It was super windy on my wedding day, but thanks to some extra pins and hairspray, everything stayed intact — even after a first look on the rooftop and photos by the East River!
When it came to makeup, Brenda and I were on the same page about using just enough coverage to smooth out my skin, but still letting my freckles shine through. Plus, she's a skincare pro and gives great advice on how to care for it in the months leading up to your wedding, so you'll be not just looking, but feeling your best.
Sarah and Brenda did such an amazing job. I would book them again in a heartbeat and recommend them to every bride-to-be I know.
