Exceptional personal service!

We bought a lovely gown at BHLDN, and Lynn altered it so well that it looked like a custom gown. She also carefully repaired an antique veil. Her work was careful and precise, her schedule accommodating, and her skill unparalleled. We will certainly recommend her and work with her again.

Lynn altered my wedding dress + my best friend's

Lynn altered my wedding dress so that it fit perfectly when I got married in June 2018. I then recommended her to my best friend, who got married in October 2020. I was a bridesmaid in that wedding...and Lynn altered my dress for that too (she was also my friend's wedding coordinator on the day of, and altered my friend's wedding dress too)! Her work is unparalleled. Definitely the best seamstress and wedding coordinator in the DC area. You can't go wrong with Lynn. She has such good taste and such a calming presence.

Absolute perfection

Lynn was amazing to work with and was one of our best vendors-hands down. I knew nothing about alterations, but I knew that I wanted to find a seamstress who knew exactly what she was doing so I wouldn’t end up paying more to have the second seamstress correct the first seamstresses‘ work, as I had read other brides sometimes experience. I’m so glad I chose Lynn since she made the process as easy as it could be.

My dress was at least a size too big when I first ordered it since all dress shops were closed due to COVID so I couldn’t try anything on, but Lynn worked wonders with the dress. She did a TON of work on the dress to make it fit me just right- she took in 13 side seams, reshaped the neckline and sewed new straps on so that it wouldn’t cut into my shoulders, hemmed the dress (all 4 layers of it), meticulously reattached the lace to the hem, and added in 12 points for the bustle. She even FaceTimed my Mom who lives out of state on my last appointment to show her how to attach the bustle. Lynn was extremely responsive and flexible in scheduling appointments on both weekends and weekdays, which was very convenient since I was able to come after work for my fittings on the week before the wedding.

Lynn was very diligent about following proper COVID protocols (she wore a mask and asked that I wore one, and asked me to wash hands when entering her studio). This helped me feel at ease since I spent a lot of time in her studio (it took 5 fittings since my dress was altered so much).

I agree with one of the other brides that Lynn felt like my pseudo-Mom during the process since my Mom lives out of state and was only able to come to one fitting. She was so warm and helped put me at ease about all the stress of wedding planning during COVID and was the first one to see me in my dress. She really takes the time to get to know you as a person and does not treat you as just another customer.

Lynn is meticulous and a pleasure to work with!

Excellent experience!

Lynn was wonderful to work with! She was very accommodating with her time, and the quality of her work is top notch! She worked very hard to make my dress exactly what I wanted for my wedding. She was also a very calming presence in an otherwise stressful wedding planning experience. I would use her again 100%! Also, she made my veil!! And it is the prettiest veil I’ve ever seen! I cannot wait for my daughters (if I have any) to wear it!

Terrific Attention to Detail

I found Lynn based on a search on WeddingWire, cross-referenced with Google. All of the reviews mentioned how meticulous Lynn was and what a miracle worker she was - and all the reviews were true! My dress had an illusion back, with lots of lace and Lynn worked magic on adjusting the back so there was no gapping, and then unpinning and then re-attaching the lace work along the hem. There were parts of the dress I swear she took completely apart and then re-did. Lynn was communicative, approachable, finished ahead of schedule and was my pseudo-mom for most fittings since my mom could only make it to the first and last fitting. Worth every penny and I couldn't have been happier with how my dress fit!

Enjoyed the day and didn't have to worry!

I loved working with Bridal Silhouette! Lynn took the time to get to know us and understand the vision of our day. She is well organized, professional, and has an eye for the details! Lynn made sure everything went seamlessly, I personally like to fix things myself and I knew Lynn had complete control of everything and I didn't worry about a thing on our wedding day! Wedding coordination and dress alterations

Lynn coordinated our daughters wedding ceremony with professionalism and joy. I drifted around in a daze as she handled everything, and even thought to take some behind the scenes photos of things she guessed would be important to me. She also did alterations on the wedding dress, which turned out beautifully. We couldn’t have been happier!

Amazing experience beginning to end

Lynn was referred to me through a good friend when I was discouraged by the local bridal gown selection. After our first consultation I knew Lynn could capture my vision and she absolutely delivered upon that! I wish EVERY wedding vendor was like Lynn. She puts so much time, care, and detail into every part of the dress design and creation process. She was also extremely accommodating and flexible when I wanted to make a change or see more options before committing to a final fabric or design element. The iterative process put me at ease because we completed each step together and she always knew exactly what I wanted. Lynn is an absolute professional with incredible skill; she also stays up to date with new designers and bridal trends so is able to incorporate these ideas into the design if you so choose.

My friends and family (and now husband) were blown away by my dress and hand-stitched lace veil; they were so impressed with the details that you simply just don’t get with a store bought gown. I highly recommend Bridal Silhouette for your wedding dress and veil. Even if you’re not sure about going custom, I would encourage you to reach out and have an initial consultation with Lynn.

Perfect wedding dress seamstress

Lynn was such a joy to work with from day 1. She put me at ease with her friendly, calming demeanor and flexibility with scheduling appointments that worked for my schedule. Her studio is in her lovely home in Rosslyn, which allows her to be flexible with her working hours unlike other tailors I contacted. Most importantly, Lynn is a master at her craft. She's incredibly detail-oriented and the job isn't done until the dress is perfect and you (the bride) are happy. Lynn did a beautiful job with shortening the length of my dress and its straps, adjusting the neckline, and adding a bustle. I'm a perfectionist myself, and I was incredibly impressed with the final product and how patient Lynn was with all my requests. I also felt that her prices were very fair and comparable to other tailors. All in all, the whole process was stress-free and my dress turned out beautifully thanks to Lynn's stellar customer service and talent. I would highly recommend Lynn if you're looking for a trustworthy, professional, and friendly seamstress who will help make your perfect wedding dress a reality!

Great experience and stunning work

I had an amazing experience working with Bridal Silhouette! I asked Lynn to completely change my dress's neckline and to create my veil. Lynn provided amazing ideas to help my vision along and then made everything look stunning. She was incredibly flexible - she worked around my availability (we met multiple times during the day, on the weekends, and after work) and my family/friend's availability as well! My dress was perfect!

We worked with Bridal Silhouette for both alterations and day-of coordination -- this review is for alterations.

Lynn was absolutely wonderful to work with from start to finish. I took my dress in for alterations on the early side (3-4 months out from the big day), and the alterations it required at the time were thankfully pretty minor. The main thing that needed to be done was the bustle, which turned out to be way trickier than expected. My dress had a long, heavy train and a lot of beautiful lacework on the skirt. Lynn was endlessly patient with me, pinning up multiple different bustle options at our first appointment until we found something that worked. I left the appointment that day feeling okay, but over the next couple days, I started worrying that the bustle might not be quite what I wanted -- I was too embarrassed to say anything, though, because Lynn had already spent so much time experimenting with it. Lynn actually reached out to me unprompted a few days after that appointment, and said she'd come up with a different solution if I was willing to try it out. I was so grateful that she initiated Bustle Take #2 -- I think she could tell I wasn't totally happy with the initial result. The final result was absolutely stunning -- we did a French bustle on the heavy underlayer of the train, then an American bustle with 5-6 pick-ups on the lace overlayer. I was so thrilled with what Lynn came up with, and so grateful for her attention to detail -- she really is a perfectionist and will make sure that you get the best possible result.

About a week out from the wedding, I tried on my dress one last time and noticed I'd lost some weight (stress!). The top of my strapless gown was gapping a little bit, and I started panicking that I might have a wardrobe malfunction at the wedding. Once again, Lynn swooped in to the rescue! She had me over, figured out the best way to take in the bodice, and had all the alterations completed within a few days. I picked up my dress on the Thursday before my Saturday wedding, and the fit was spot-on. I was so relieved!

On the big day, my dress fit perfectly, the bustle looked amazing during the reception and didn't fall out (despite being stepped on multiple times), and I've never felt so beautiful. Lynn is incredible and I couldn't recommend her alterations services more highly!

Finally, Lynn handled getting my dress cleaned and preserved by a specialist she trusts. She really is full service! Thanks, Lynn!!

Convenient, flexible, high quality - and focused on what you want

Lynn altered my dress for my January 19, 2019 wedding. Our first contact was in early December, and we managed to get everything ready in time. Lynn was very flexible and responsive as we went through the alterations process. Her flexible hours and location in Rosslyn were super convenient for me, since I live in Alexandria and the dress shop where I bought my dress was in Gaithersburg. My dress had a lace overlay/train, and Lynn did a great job with the hem. She helped my bridesmaids understand and practice the bustle when we picked up the dress. I was very anxious about how I would look in the dress and at times the alterations process was pretty emotional for me. Lynn was super supportive and she really focused on the outcome I wanted, so my advice is to not be shy or nervous - let her know what you want or are concerned about and she will help you figure out the best option(s).

My experience working with Lynn and Bridal Silhouette exceeded my expectations. As an artist and perfectionist, and someone who considers herself to be a rather meticulous and detail-oriented planner, I have to say working with Lynn was an absolute dream! Rarely do I completely trust someone else to take over a project or event that I've started, and handle it with the same attention to detail and specificity that I would give it, but with Lynn I felt completely secure. We were often on the exact same page throughout the planning process, and so by the time the wedding day rolled around (which is when I really relied on her organization and expertise) I was not stressed or worried in the least. Throughout the wedding day, Lynn was calm and collected, guiding us through minor hiccups with ease such that no one would've ever guessed that anything hadn't gone exactly according to plan:) I can't recommend Lynn enough!

I had SUCH a wonderful experience working with Lynn. I had a vision for my dream dress, but after much searching was disappointed not to have found "the one". A friend recommended her and my mind was immediately put at ease after our first appointment. I brought along part of my skirt and a separate top. She listened to my ideas and offered suggestions for how to go about making the alterations to create the exact silhouette and look I was going for. The amount of detailed work she put into having my dress perfected was amazing and I will always be thankful to her for creating the dress that gave me so much confidence and joy on my wedding day. I received so many compliments on how beautifully the dress was bustled and how exquisite and unique it was. I cannot recommend going with Lynn Nelson enough!!

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Lynn for my wedding dress alterations. She is very responsive, flexible with scheduling fittings, reasonably priced and has an eye for detail! What more could a bride want?!

I lost more weight than expected between my first and last fitting, so my dress was a little looser than I wanted (the stress is real!). I was hesitant to have the entire dress taken in, since it was minor and probably wasn’t worth the extra money or time. But since my dress was open back with skinny straps, I was nervous about a potential dress disaster. Lynn quickly came up with the great idea to sew an elastic bra strap just below the open back to conspicuously provide extra support...and I even got the added benefit of an hourglass figure :-)

I would definitely recommend Lynn to anyone looking for a seamstress!

If I could give Lynn 10 stars out of 5, I would. She was one of the best vendors I worked with – she did all the alterations on my wedding dress and couldn't have done a better job. It fit perfectly, looked stunning, and was exactly as I'd wanted it. Lynn was very available in the weeks and days before my wedding. It was reassuring knowing that if I needed something or there was any issue, Lynn would be able to help. The alterations also cost less than I expected, which was a nice surprise. I've already referred one friend to her and will definitely be sending more people in the future.

I have a fabulous vintage silk dress from the 1950's that I wanted to wear to a wedding. It needed hemming and alterations, and due to a funky design, I wanted someone I could trust to do the alterations. Lynn was highly recommended on a neighborhood listserv, so I gave her a call. Lynn helped me have my grandmother with me on my wedding day. She recreated my grandmothers bodice to her wedding gown just from a picture and it was absolutely stunning. For those who are looking for a wedding coordinator, look no further Bridal Silhouette is the way to go! Damon and I's wedding day was an absolute dream because of Lynn and Nikki. Lynn was extremely responsive to emails with question I may have had and also made sure that I was following tradition the way that I had explained I wanted. I had explained we wanted a traditional wedding and Lynn made sure that's what I got, even if I didn't quiet understand what that meant. The day of the wedding was literally flawless, the rain was unexpected but in true professional fashion Lynn and Nikki rolled with it and we just got the party started sooner. Not only were they professional but you could tell that they truly cared about making mine and Damon's wedding of our dreams come true and that they did. Lynn was a lifesaver at our wedding ceremony! From advising us on how the timeline should run, to running shotgun when all the vendors showed up, to taking care of issues I'm sure I'll never know about, she was calm, level-headed, and exactly what a nervous bride needed! Lynn with Bridal Silhouette was incredible, professional, and well worth her fee (an incredible value too, I had interviewed other week/month-of planners and coordinators in the D.C. area and often they were twice as expensive or more a comparable list of services).
I seemed to text or email Lynn at all hours of the day and sometimes night with various questions or reminders and she was incredibly responsive. When I made a major change to the timeline the night before the wedding (swapping out whether the bride or groom would arrive at the church first) she rolled with it. And, on the day of the wedding, when I realized the dance floor was in the wrong location at the reception venue (I was taking photos there and saw it), I texted Lynn to make sure someone knew and could take care of it.
Lynn also took care of a number of issues with my vendors. For instance, when the van I rented for the day (Falcon Valet - I don't recommend) never showed up for the leg to take me from pre-ceremony photos to the church, Lynn talked with them after the wedding and arranged a discount for me. And when my reception venue was planning to charge me extra for outdoor pre-ceremony photos, although the contract only specified a fee for photos *inside* the venue, Lynn talked them out of it.
Lynn was never flustered, always calm and level-headed, and so helpful with planning my day-of timeline, which I had no idea would be so complicated. So solicitous, as well.

Lynn Nelson is such a blessing! She is kind, patient, timely, and her work is incredible. She has great attention to detail & knowledge of her craft: for instance, when I asked to add a bustle to my wedding dress, she knew the best way to do it based on the fabric. My friend, getting married in Pennsylvania, came to Bridal Silhouette, because the pricing is better than anywhere else. She makes your visit special too- her husband even played wedding music when I came back to try on my dress!

Our wedding day would not have been possible without Lynn, both as a tailor and as a coordinator! I first worked with Lynn when she tailored my wedding gown, which required some unique alterations due to an unusual hemline. She came up with creative solutions that would help me stay within budget, and the work was done with impeccable quality and completed quickly. Where Lynn really saved the day was with wedding coordinating. At the time my dress was being altered, there was an unresolved dispute with our all-inclusive venue. We ended up changing venues one month before the wedding, which included loosing our day-of coordinator. In the midst of the chaos, Lynn stepped in without hesitation to fill that void for us. She came to multiple meetings with the different vendors to help plan, provided comprehensive lists of items and things to think about to help me stay organized, guided and assisted the caterers on the day of to make the venue look stunning - honestly, she was the only reason the wedding day was able to proceed without a hitch. Without Lynn, I have NO idea how we would have pulled off a venue/catering change with less than a month to re-plan everything. She was truly a gift, and I will always count my blessings that I had her guidance to keep my wedding day from becoming a disaster! I would turn to her again in a heartbeat - with my wedding gown, my wedding day, and any other major event in my life!

Lynn is a treasure. After buying a store sample as my wedding dress, I reached out to multiple alterations vendors in the area for a quote. Lynn wrote an incredibly thoughtful reply detailing how she would address the many alterations the dress needed. After meeting her, I easily trusted that she had the vision and skill to properly alter my wedding dress.

We ultimately had five or six appointments over the course of five months leading up to the wedding. Alterations included shortening the dress straps, taking in the bust and sides, heming the length of the the dress, and creating a bustle (and more, I'm sure). All of this involved lifting the overlaying lace/beading and then reapplying it to the new bodice. Lynn kept me aware of every alteration being performed and was diligent to keep true to my vision for the dress. Needless to say, the resulting dress was stunning.

Additionally, Lynn is extraordinarily flexible. She works out of her home and was able to have me for appointments on weekday nights and weekends (necessary for me because of my unforgiving work schedule). She also works as a wedding coordinator and offered sage advice on wedding planning during our appointments.

Overall: highly recommend. Lynn is remarkably talented, flexible, and affordable.

I'm a MOTB submitting this review. My daughter planned her wedding in another state, which made it difficult for me to help her with many of the details her ceremony and outdoor reception entailed. Lynn was a great help to us in this regard. Her style is professional and unobtrusive, and she quietly handled problems which arose (some hours before the reception). She continually communicated with me, my daughter, and the vendors, as needed. I've been surprised, too, by her post-wedding follow ups. She and her assistant did a marvelous job of making my daughter's day come together fluidly.

Lynn was wonderful to work with. She did an amazing job making my wedding gown into Baptism gowns for my first granddaughter and grandson. We now have gowns for all future children in our family for generations to come. I loved my wedding gown and since my girls did not choose to wear it when they got married I thought this was a wonderful way for the love my husband have shared to be remembered long after we are no longer here to be a part of their lives. I also have Lynn making 2 Ring Bearer pillows and 6 tooth fairy pillows from the gown.

The little girls gown is a pretty and dainty as the little boys is handsome...Lynn is a gifted seamstress.

I will be forever great full for doing this for our family!

I found Lynn because I needed additional alterations to my wedding gown. I wanted a private seamstress because I believe the quality, service, and pricing are all significantly better when you can deal directly with your vendor. I have a highly detailed dress with lace, beading, and boning and I needed the entire bodice taken in significantly.

I met Lynn in her studio. She carefully pinned the dress and explain to me how she would make the alterations and what would be involved. She gave me an estimate that was quite accurate. She needed only a few weeks to complete the alterations. When I returned to pick up the dress it fit like a glove. I couldn't believe how perfectly she got the measurements.

The most important element to this alteration was obviously the care shown my dress and the skill involved. Both were top quality. But what I found the most remarkable about Lynn was her friendly, graceful, interested manner. I believe she truly cares about me, and became genuinely invested in my wedding day. She had thoughtful, honest, experienced advice and she shared it freely even when not in regards to my dress. If my wedding were being held in the local area, I would have contracted her to coordinate for me on the spot.

Lynn Nelson was an incredible support to me in helping to plan my wedding! With my family clear across the country and my mom in ill-health and unable to help me, Lynn was a Godsend! I planned a church wedding with a formal reception at a nearby club for 170 people in less than 4 months. I absolutely could not have done this without Lynn! We met almost weekly at Starbucks where she basically coached me on what to do next. She provided me leads to wonderful vendors for photography, cake, and flowers. She provided emotional support when I felt overwhelmed and encouraged me not to give up when I started to give her the "deer in a headlights" look!

The day of, she and her team provided support at the reception and kept everything running smoothly, especially the crazy details like getting your suitcases to the right car, keys to the right person, and all the gifts loaded up. She even picked up all my favors at the end of the night (notes about the ministry we had given to in the guests' honor) and tracked me down to return them.

Other items she and her team helped with when everything got down to the wire: I paid them to help put together and deliver the guest welcome baskets. Her team even met me at various places around DC to pick up items for the reception before the event and one of her team bought me fresh bread. I felt so supported the whole way through! Can't recommend Lynn and her team enough!

I selected a Mother of the Bride dress that was beaded, delicate and had three layers. It needed to be hemmed and taken up in the straps. Lynn analyzed and discussed every aspect of the dress, shoes, undergarments and accessories. She is a perfectionist! I thought it just needed a quick hem. The hemline was beaded in a scallop shape so she had to remove about 5 inches of beading, hem three layers of satin and chiffon netting and re-bead the lower portion of the dress to integrate the distinctive scallop pattern. The dress turned out beautiful and fit perfectly!!
As it turns out, my younger daughter will be married in April and I will use Lynn again to do the bride's alterations as well as my own.

Lynn was a great help, especially on the day of my wedding. She made sure our 18 person bridal party and family were all in the right places at the right times. She kept the events and activities during our ceremony and reception moving, and I don't think we could have kept our schedule without her. She was very helpful leading up to the wedding to discuss details that I never would have thought of on my own or from wedding books or websites.

Lynn took my 7 layer wedding gown (the Sara Lace Gown from J.Crew) with a lace covering and scalloped bottom to fit me like a glove. I was very particular about the length and the way it hit the floor, and she made it perfect. She ensured I could walk in the dress without tripping, but that it would fall to the floor elegantly.

Lynn made a tremendous contribution to our son’s wedding both before and during the wedding and reception. We had a fairly complex situation: bridegroom remote in an army course, bride-to-be living with us (future in-laws), and her family in Alaska. Lynn provided great insight and leant a structure to the entire process that relieved us of much concern, particularly in the week prior to the wedding, before and during the service, and throughout the reception. I'd always wanted to wear my aunt's 54-year old wedding dress lined with my grandfather's parachute silk from WWII but when I tried it on, it wasn't close to being something wearable. Lynn took this family treasure and completely transformed it into a beautiful gown that honored the history of the dress while providing me with something that was flattering and beautiful. She provided me with multiple options for the look, listened patiently and accommodated my requests while providing creative solutions. She never pushed her agenda, but always presented options even if they meant more work for her. She even took the pieces of the dress that we didn't use and created an heirloom ring pillow that we were able to present to my aunt. It was a delight to work with her and I would heartily recommend her!

Lynn was our week of coordinator for my wedding and did a fantastic job. Uber organized and professional with great advice, I felt very confident in her ability to ensure everything would go smoothly- and it did. She suggested ideas when I needed them and ran with my requests- she was a great balance of making sure she understood exactly what I wanted and was also able to make the decisions I didn't have time to make. Lynn was also extremely responsive/communicative and was great at making sure I was making the decisions I needed to in a timely manner.
Lynn also did an impeccable job altering my wedding dress- I don't think I could find another person so patient, as I was very specific in the fit I wanted and ended up having many fittings. She always made me feel extremely comfortable and I really appreciated that she never hurried me.
I would absolutely recommend Lynn of Bridal Silhouette for wedding coordinating and dress altering.

Bridal Silhouette did a great job altering my dress. The dress had been ordered as a petite size, so the length was great, but all four layers of the bodice needed to be altered to fit me right. Lynn was amazing! She cared for my wedding dress like it was her own. My veil was my moms and she took it tom the 70s to modern in no time flat! When you are getting your wedding hemmed you have to stand there and Lynn talked to me like she had known me for years and that helped pass the time. The price was also amazing, because Lynn can work out of her home it helped to keep the cost down and that is huge when you planning a wedding in DC. I loved working with Lynn and will be bringing all my things to her.

Made it Easy and Affordable to Create My Own Design

It was so fun to work with Lynn on quasi-designing my wedding dress! When I realized starting from scratch would be too expensive for our budget, she did not hesitate to help add meaningful details to my bridal gown and veil. She perfectly tailored my dress, made unique alterations to my intricate lace top, and even added snap-on off the shoulder sleeves so that I was able to make a fun "outfit-change" for our reception. She was also so patient with me when I could not make up my mind. I would definitely recommend Bridal Silhouette to other future brides!

Helpful, thoughtful service

I needed to incorporate my mother's veil into my wedding day, but I couldn't use it as a traditional veil (it had aged too much and was slightly discolored in places). Lynn responded quickly to my inquiry and was incredibly helpful in talking through what options I had. In the end, we decided to create two handkerchiefs using multiple parts of the veil (from appliques and lace to actual veil fabric). One would be for me and the other for my mom. The handkerchiefs were finished in plenty of time and were just beautiful. Lynn is incredibly easy to work with and very generous with her suggestions about other bridal items even if you aren't specifically using her for that service.

My wife met with her for a consulting session and we promptly asked her to help us with a bigger role as day of coordinator. Her peaceful demeanor, high level of organization, and unflappability made her a wonderful day of coordinator.

She helped us stay on track throughout the day — we never felt worried that we were supposed to be somewhere else and also felt confident that she could field vendors' questions. She was so helpful and kind and helped us focus on the most important parts of the day. We didn't have to field anything during the day which allowed my wife and I to enjoy each moment and focus on each other. Our wedding day was the perfect day.

We hired Lynn for her "day of coordination" service. The experience was horrible from the groom's, bridal party's, family members', and vendors' standpoint!
We will definitely never hire her again and discourage others to do so as well. To summarize: This day was well planned out, thus we needed day of coordination only, yet she and her team didn't manage all the unpredictable things like they should have, to leave me stress-free. They did not execute plans and organize details even with well prepared vendors! To finish, my new husband and I saw her and her "assistant" just chatting on the side of the venue at crucial moments (i.e: bouquet toss). We would have been better off coordinating our special day ourselves!!
