More Than Just Photographers

Darren and Mandy are outstanding photographers and people. Their professionalism and quality of work were unmatched by any other photographers we spoke with. They went above and beyond for us throughout our entire wedding planning process, and were kind and patient throughout the entire experience.
Their quality of work is also incredible. If you like what you see on their website, that is exactly what you will get. They are very consistent in their work. They don't just give you a handful of good photos. Each and every picture they take is as perfect as the last. They are also very open-minded and willing to hear your ideas. While we were shooting our engagement and wedding photos, they gave us ideas and also listened and did everything they could to make our ideas/visions come to life.
We cannot recommend them enough. Choosing Darren and Mandy as our wedding photographers was the best decision we made. If photographs are important to you and are your favorite way of capturing memories, then Darren and Mandy are absolutely the photographers for you.

Exceptional Photographers!

Darren and Mandy were such a pleasure to work with. From the very first time we spoke, I knew that Josh and I had made the right choice. They were professional, attentive to detail and integral in helping plan our timeline around sunset - something I have been thinking about forever. We love the way the pictures turned out and they really captured the spirit and the emotions of our day. I would recommend Darren and Mandy to all of my friends and family!

Best wedding decision you can make!

What can we say that hasn't already been said?? They are the best photographers who really go the extra miles (literally) for us. They drove all the way to Cleveland to take our engagement photos and then up to Gaylord a day before our wedding to scout out good picture locations. They stayed for the entire reception and even took more amazing pictures of us afterwards by the pool! They are incredible when it comes to making us and our wedding party look their best, as well as making everyone at ease. They are also gifted in capturing candid photos as well as wedding details. A lot of portfolios and companies on The Knot pick and choose from certain photographers but that may not be the same photographer for your wedding. Darren and Mandy have that amazing portfolio and with them you know the quality of pictures you will get. ABSOLUTELY CHOOSE THEM, you won't regret it!! Lhotse & Seth

Darren and Mandy Put in the TIME!

Darren and Mandy were an all star team who kept us both relaxed our entire wedding day. We had Darren shoot our engagement photos as well as our wedding day. The amount of time spent on our wedding before, during, and after- worth it! He listened to what was important to us which included taking most of our photos beforehand so we could spend our reception with our friends and family instead of disappearing. Attentive, professional, and extremely thorough. Mandy and Darren are both kind and caring people who made us feel at ease right away upon arriving on our wedding day. Communication was clear leading up to the wedding and there's no doubt that Darren has a true passion for what he does. Wonderful experience

Working with Darren and Mandy was a joy for our engagement and wedding photos. We had our wedding in Holland but lived in Ohio at the time. Darren was very accommodating and came to Ohio for our engagement photos since we wanted them in our home town. They went above and beyond through our entire experience with them and gave us the most beautiful photos! We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would definitely encourage anyone to work with them for their special day!

Wonderful Photographer

Best Wedding Photographers!!!

Darren and his wife Mandy are true professionals and quite the dynamic duo of photography superheros. We just LOVED them. I had an initial hour and a half phone call with Darren to go over his style of photography and how he does weddings, then he met with my now husband, Derek, and I for over an hour to go over his portfolio, chat with us and answer all of our questions. I am pretty sure we asked thousands. Darren made us so at ease and we selected him and Mandy to do our wedding/engagement photos. For our engagement photo session we went on a Sunday afternoon and spent well over the allotted time we had scheduled taking pictures. The engagement photos turned out stunning and we get so many compliments on them - Darren did such a fantastic job and made it easy. About 7 months before our actual wedding we had a phone conversation with Darren and Mandy to go over logistics of the wedding day. We spent time on the phone going over every part of the day with them. They sent us a google doc of a timeline with all of our important pictures laid out so they wouldn't miss any and it had all of the important members of the bridal party that we had to specify. This was probably one of the most helpful things throughout the wedding planning process - I am such a planner and Darren and Mandy made it easy for me to plan their part. About a month before the wedding we did a walk through of the ceremony and reception for about two hours. Darren and Mandy made sure they would get all of the pictures that we wanted and the run through was super important as they were able to map out the entire day. The actual wedding day, Darren and Mandy were amazing - they did everything they said they would and more and we got so many compliments from our guests as well. Mandy even set up a preview of some of our pictures for our guests in our cocktail space that she had playing during the cocktail hour. We truly can't say enough about these two - photography was one thing I was really anxious about because we really wanted to select the right people to really capture our day - we could not have picked better. Darren and Mandy were so organized and take great photos and really put our minds at ease for the whole day and we could not be happier. We got our wedding pictures back and absolutely loved them - they are everything we hoped for and more. All of our favorite moments from our wedding day were so artistically captured on camera and we can't wait to get our wedding album and prints to have showcased in our home together!

The BEST photographer pair you could ask for

Extremely professional, incredibly talented and most of all, the most personable and down to earth. Darren and Mandy handled everything with such grace and professionalism. I cannot put into words how special and amazing these two are. dealing with our crazy family and wedding party, and having all of the extra work of sending things out of state, where we reside. I will say that Mandy and Darren are one of a kind, and you will be so incredibly happy with these two!

We loved every minute of working with Darren and Mandy. They were incredibly organized, spent a lot of time with us over the phone and in person before the wedding making sure we were all on the same page, and that we would get exactly what we wanted. They took our Hollywood theme and found great ways to sneak it in without being over the top and created some truly beautiful movie poster re-creation photos for us during our engagement session that we used as decorations during our actual wedding day. We had so much fun working with them and every photo turned out wonderful. We could not recommend enough.

If I could give Darren (and Mandy) more than five stars I would since they deserve it . Darren is one of the most detailed orientated photographers that I have ever met, and the outcome of the photos that he takes proves that. They have this amazing ability to capture the love, emotion and personality of complete strangers to them and that is what I love the most about our photos. Any idea that I threw at them wasn’t too big and everything that I had asked for was delivered above and beyond what I could imagine. With planning a wedding across the state, Darren and Mandy make you feel like there wasn’t a few hours commute between us. There is no one else I would want to go to the next time I need professional pictures done.

Darren is amazing to work with. He took our engagement pictures and wedding pictures. They are beautiful!
For our engagement session we had 3 outfit changes and multiple locations. We loved being able to take our time and not feel rushed. Darren was focused on getting the best pictures and didn't mind spending a few hours with us.
For our wedding we got the package to have an extra photographer. It was well worth it to have another person to capture all the moments. Darren was with us for abut 12 hours on our wedding day. Again he was not rushing to get home. He stayed late into the night so we could have different lighting to play with. His wife Mandy works as Darren's assistant and she is AMAZING! She is more than just a photographer's assistant. My bridal party called her Mary Poppins because she would have anything you needed in her bag. I didn't have time to steam my dress. Mandy saw that it needed to be steam so she did it for me while I was getting my makeup done. I was so grateful for her help that day. Darren and Mandy make a great team. They are very professional, kind, and helpful. They are the people you want to have on your wedding day.

My husband and I hired Darren Breen for our September wedding. We can not say enough good things about Darren and his lovely wife Mandy! From helping us narrow down locations to organizing the list of photos we wanted they were amazing. They both went above and beyond the day of the wedding. Mandy kept me calm during my bridezilla moments and Darren captured even the smallest of details as well as the candid moments between my husband and I. The Breen's were excellent! very nice and professional but most of all fun. we had no problems with are pictures and they kept in contact with us throughout the whole process. they even helped mentor are friends with some advice on being starting there wedding video business.

We are so happy with our engagement & wedding photos! Darren did a wonderful job capturing candid moments and artistic shots - we have a 90 pg album full of photos we love. Darren was very professional, responded quickly to our emails and was flexible with plans. We had asked for a same day edit to be shown during our reception at the GRAM and though he had never tried it before Darren delivered. Our guests loved seeing some day-of photos and it was a big hit. On top of that, Darren & his wife Mandy were simply a joy to work with. Darren was an amazing photographer! We were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes during our engagement shoot and it didn't even phase Darren! He was very focused and wanted to do everything he could to take amazing photos, which he accomplished! When it came to our wedding, I absolutely loved him and his wife! They make an amazing team and do everything they can to make your wedding great! They pulled us aside later in the night to get some night photos of just me and my husband and I love that they took the time to do that!! I can't wait to see how it all turns out! I would highly recommend Darren for a photographer. You can really tell its his passion and he will not let you down. I couldn't have been happier with my choice for my wedding photographer.

Darren and Mandy were fabulous photographers! They were kind, fun, and so very hard working! Darren was incredibly responsive well in advance of my wedding and was very thoughtful throughout the entire process. As I was planning a wedding from across the country, I couldn't be there to do a walk through with him, but thankfully my mom could. She couldn't say enough wonderful things. He noted where light fell and calculated where it would be come the wedding, he had plan B and probably a plan C. Not only did he help me through the photos, but he gave great advice on things such as timeframes and other wedding insight that a first-timer like myself couldn't possibly have known of. Plus, our photos turned our phenomenal! I could not recommend him and his wonderful wife Mandy highly enough!

Book with Darren! He is amazing. He included our engagement session with our wedding session, made us feel completely comfortable with him, taught us about posing, and got some amazing shots. He is super responsive to emails, and was very accommodating even though we were planning our wedding from out of state. Also, for our wedding, he brought his wife as an assistant and she is LOVELY. She even helped with coordinating the day-of. They both went above and beyond.

Absolute BEST Photographer hands down. Darren was respectful, on top of things, organized, creative, and provided exactly what we were looking for in our wedding photography. He was prompt in answering questions and giving us information as it was needed. I would never hire another photographer again! Darren Breen is AWESOME! When you AND your husband to be are freelance photographers (who don't like to be photographed...oh the irony lol) finding your perfect wedding photographer goes to a whole new level of difficult. Did I mention we were on a budget as well? Oh, adding to this dilemma...my fiance was living in Michigan & I'm in North Carolina! After looking through about a dozen photographers we found Darren Breen on a site for a wedding walk event in Grand Haven MI. Once we emailed Darren letting him know about our vintage 40's/50's style wedding & our multiple challenges:logistics, financials, finding someone who can be a "photo ninja" & get great shots of us since we're generally the ones taking the photos etc; it didn't take long before we knew that Darren was our guy. He was the only photographer who took an interest in our photography & actually looked at our work to get a feel for us as artists. This really meant a lot to me, it meant that he took the time to see what our style of photography was, so as to know what we were wanting from him as an artist. Darren (& his wife) were so incredibly nice & easy to work with! As my (now) husband & I gave Darren ideas we had for photos, he was very receptive. The Big Day came & of course as these things tend to go...we had a few hiccups. We were running late, there were issues with the music etc. Darren just rolled with it & even had to save the day at the last minute when our music wouldn't work! His lovely wife downloaded the song I was to walk down the aisle to on her phone to plug into the sound system. At the reception we had a lot of fun getting shots that we had talked about around a pool table, then down at the beach/lakeside. After it was all over & we got to see the final result there were so many photos that my husband & I kept saying "I didn't know he got that!" Darren truly lived up to our hopes of a Photo Ninja.

We chose Darren Breen as our wedding photographer after he came highly recommended from another wedding vendor. After viewing his portfolio and speaking with him, he was clearly the correct choice for us. With our wedding package, we also got engagement photos, but we opted to go for a less traditional photo shoot that included 4-5 different locations, 3 outfit changes, and even our dogs. Throughout the entire shoot, Darren was extremely professional, funny, and understanding of what we were going for, and he spent over 5 hours taking hundreds of pictures for us. He made us feel very comfortable with him, to the point that when we saw him at our wedding, it was like reconnecting with an old friend.

On our wedding day, Darren spent 12 hours with us, taking pictures of the girls getting ready, the wedding, the bridal party pics, and the entire wedding reception. I think he and his wife Mandy were the last to leave the venue. The variety in the pictures that he took, and his ability to capture moments of every guest at the wedding made the collection of photos he sent to us a few weeks later into almost a flip-book reminder of our amazing day. Darren really understood who we were and what we were looking for in our wedding photos, and the quality of the photos that he took will be cherished forever!

Darren took photos for my wedding in 2013. He did a wonderful job. He was very flexible and worked with every request that I had. The quality of his photos was very high. He was especially good and capturing non-staged moments that really savored the emotions of the day. He is also has a great, easy-going personality.

Darren was amazing! We have a special needs child and he was so supportive and flexible with our challenges from start to finish. Our little girl was in the hospital the day of our wedding and Darren went out of his way to meet us there to make sure we could capture special moments with our baby. He allowed us time, helped us develop back up plans and really knew when to use the camera.

He is kind, funny and best of all, so very very patient. Brides, trust me, you want a photographer with patience and a good spirit. I had a stressful time prepping for our day with the medical needs on top of the wedding and Darren truly helped make the day flow smooth, and accommodated through every moment.

He got the best moments on camera and we are extremely happy with our pictures and with his services.

Darren's photography is amazing and I am extremely happy with our photos. He was professional and very accommodating. He made himself available and has continued to be very helpful with wedding photo requests and questions well after the wedding. I was more interested in "action" photos than portraits and he did a wonderful job. He stayed until the very end of the reception and that was much appreciated. His prices are very reasonable, particularly considering the quality of the photos, his customer service, and the amount of time he spent with us on the day of the wedding. Pictures were at the top of my priority list for our wedding. I wanted quality and knew they would be how I remembered our big day for years to come!
I first saw Darren's work at a bridal expo could tell his photos were the quality I was looking for. I was prepared for his prices to be higher than others I had been considering, but his prices were actually better! I'm SO glad we went with Darren Breen Photography! He met with us to go over packages and to learn what we wanted from him. He spent a lot of his own time giving me ideas and insight, as well as learning about us as a couple to really see what our tastes and personalities were. We used him for our engagement photos and our wedding (he even helped us with a fun little pre-reception video we made).
He did a wonderful job with ALL of our photos and each time I look through them I find more surprising ways he captured the day... (everyone getting ready, our parents, our wedding party, guests, the venue, flowers, rings, little kids, EVERYTHING!) So many moments I might not have even been able to soak in without such amazing pictures ;)

Darren was exactly what we were looking for in a wedding photographer. We really wanted someone that was able to capture the emotion and spirit of the day and he definitely delivered. His background in photojournalism gives him a great eye for capturing an intimate moment on film. He was very flexible and accommodating to our schedules both on the day of the wedding as well as for our engagement photo session. Darren did a great job capturing our wedding. He has a journalistic style that really captured the feel of the day. Make sure to let him know all of the traditional or posed pictures you want as he tends to lean towards journalistic. If he knows he will make sure to get them.

Darren was super nice and helpful on our wedding day. He even met up with us beforehand to check out the location(s) so he could be get some ideas for the pictures and came prepared the day of. We met Darren at a Grand Rapids bridal expo then proceeded to have a 2 hour long meeting with him a couple weeks later. We knew pretty quickly that he was the right person for the job! He was receptive to our creative outlooks and excited to capture the special touches of our day! He was willing to go above and beyond whenever I had a question or concern. Darren and his assistant were amazing photographers! They fit right in with our crowd and were so much fun. Darren is extremely talented and dedicated. I meet Darren at a bridal show, and was immediately drawn to his aesthetic. Looking through his photo albums, I felt like they were telling a story, and I could feel the emotions in the pictures. After speaking with him, and learning of his background in photojournalism, it made perfect sense! Speaking with him that first time, while only briefly, I knew he was the photographer for us.

Leading up to the wedding, I was blown away by his professionalism, detail, flexibility, and how he took the time to get to know my fiancée and myself. He made it a priority to know and understand our personalities, likes and dislikes, and I think that was an integral part in the success of our wedding day and how our pictures turned out.

On our wedding day, he went above and beyond. He was with us from very early in the morning until nearly midnight. He was a source of calm amidst all the craziness leading up to that walk down the aisle, and continued to be throughout the night. He had an ability to disappear into the background while still being able to capture every moment and detail brilliantly! After the party had ended, although it was already late, Darren stayed with my husband and I and took some more pictures – including some outside in the cold and rain which turned out to be some of our favorites!

Even though the wedding is over, and he’s provided us with all our pictures, while some photographers may consider their job done, Darren is still making himself available to us while we chose our pictures and photo albums. To me, this exemplifies what an outstanding photographer Darren is. He values his clients, he clearly values his work and art, and all that shows through in his pictures. In short, our pictures turned out more incredible than we could have ever imagined, and it was an absolute pleasure working with Darren!

Darren was great to work with! We felt uncomfortable getting our photos taken, but now we have beautiful engagement and wedding pictures of us and all our loved ones. On the day of, he was flexible with last-minute changes. For instance, a last-minute receiving line formed after the ceremony when we had planned to take formal shots with our families. Now we have photos of us hugging every single person who came to our wedding in the receiving line, as well as formal shots taken after dinner. He was organized, prepared, and obviously talented at taking the kind of in-the-moment shots we wanted to remember the day. Cannot recommend him highly enough!

Darren is a master, we couldn't have asked for a better photographer.

Working with Darren was a wonderful experience. We're in our 30's and have been in our share of wedding parties, and attended plenty of weddings, but I cannot imagine working with any other photographer for our own.

Darren has mastered both the art and craft of photography. Everything clicks along like a smooth running machine. From the engagement shoot, to the planning, to the day of, to the edited photos. Darren pops up to lead the process when it's appropriate, and then quietly drops to the background. His pleasant and confident demeanor is such a nice contrast to the cheesy over-the-top-ness one often sees in wedding photographers.

The posed photos were all incredibly well executed, they look great, and are visually interesting. He really listened to us and got to know our personality, and it showed in the final product. By far my favorite photos are the candids. Darren has an amazing way of not just capturing moments, but really grabbing the feeling and telling a story with each frame. I look back on the photos and it really evokes the feelings of the day. I feel like we have real living, breathing documentation of the day that we can show our future kids and grandkids, as well as reflect on fondly for many years to come.

I can't think of even a slightly critical thing to say about Darren, you cannot go wrong booking him for your wedding!

Our experience with Darren was nothing short of excellent. His experience as a photographer and photo-journalist really shows. Darren doesn't just take photos, he captures significant moments to create a photographic record of the event. Even our guests commented to us how detail oriented Darren was and the efforts he made to get things just right. Darren was easy to work with, friendly and completely professional. The planning phase of the event went very smoothly. Darren is engaging but not overbearing like some photographers. Darren is very effective at working behind the scenes in order to capture the nature feel and atmosphere of an event without people stopping to "pose for the camera." Darren was so great! I couldn't imagine a more professional, passionate, and thorough photographer for our wedding. His vision exceeded well beyond capturing exactly what we wanted. His ideas, both planned and on the fly, made for some of our favorite shots. The engagement session took us all over Grand Rapids, and he actually managed to make it pretty fun. This should mean a lot coming from the groom. When it began to rain, we assumed we were done, but Darren got out his rain equipment and urged us on. The rain effect he did made for some of our favorite photos! We had a very specific shot in mind to blow up for signing at the wedding. When the photos came back, he sensed that we didn't quite get exactly what we wanted and initiated a reshoot one evening after work. He made the trip back to Grand Rapids to get the perfect picture all included in the original bundled price. One the day of the wedding, he was at the hotel with the girls while they got ready and stayed with us all day/night even as he venue closed. We could not be happier with the almost 2,000 edited photos! We absolutely recommend Darren to future couples.

Darren's experience as a photojournalist is what initially drew my wife and I to him. Looking through his portfolio, we really liked how his pictures captured the action and emotions of the weddings he photographs. We had met with a few other wedding photographers prior to Darren and nothing had really clicked. When we Skyped with Darren for the first time, my wife and I were elated that we had finally photographer who we could really connect with.

Darren was great to work with. He was flexible, he was reassuring, he somehow even made the day of our wedding flow more smoothly. The wedding turned out great and the pictures did as well. I really cannot say enough good things about Darren.

I knew when I started planning our wedding that the one thing I would take away from the day were the pictures. I didn't have the biggest budget in the world, but I knew I was willing to pay for quality photography. Darren was the first photographer booth I stopped at when at a Bridal Expo. His picture displays caught my eye because they were so genuine, beautiful and looked like real life. I think that a lot of photographers can edit their pictures into something that looks cool but might not actually showcase reality. Darren's pictures capture moments. They are full of action and emotion, stolen glances and they truly captured our day from beginning to end. We can honestly look through the pictures and relive our day! And while I think you get what you pay for a lot in life, he did not break our bank! Our engagement session was included along with a full day of wedding. He's very organized and meets with you to get to know you and what you're hoping for from your pictures. He's friendly and professional and I know I speak for my husband as well when I say, we could not have been more pleased with our wedding photographer and pictures. Our wedding day was perfect! I am so grateful I found and met Darren at the Bridal Show in Grand Rapids. He is an amazing photographer and so much fun to work with. Darren (and Mandy) were great. We had a great experience working with Darren for our engagement and wedding pictures this past summer. He gave us many options for places to go once we told him what type of setting we were looking for both engagement wedding photos. Mandy was great with organizing the little details for our wedding day to make sure things had a flow to them for pictures and to be sure we stuck to the timeline. She also came prepared with safety pins in an emergency :) The quality of our perfect were amazing and we loved the little details that Darren did with our rings and flowers. He was great at catching the moments to remember and the decorations. Darren and Mandy ended up staying a little longer at our wedding to catch those extra pictures he hadn't made it to yet and we were so glad he did. Darren is a very laid back and easygoing guy that makes it easy to feel comfortable in front of the camera. He has a great personal style and is open to ideas of your own as well. Darren is awesome! He always kept us informed and stayed the entire night taking pictures! Him and his wife make a great team and made us feel comfortable and relax with all the chaos of the wedding. We did our engagement and wedding photos with them and it cost $2800 but we got $850 free credit toward prints and albums. His pictures at beautiful and we got them in a month of our wedding and all edited great!
