Amazing food and great company to work with

We loved our whole experience with Black Tie. The food, from cocktail hour through ice cream sundae bar was incredible. They were responsive, easy to work with and helped us create the dream wedding food from start to finish. Many comments from guests that the food was "the best wedding dinner".

Amazing wedding at Camp Hammond!

Our wedding at Camp Hammond was absolutely perfect. Amy was amazing to work with for the entire planning process, and our day-of event captain Delaine was also incredible. They were so responsive and professional throughout. We got so many compliments on the venue, the service, and the food! Everything was beautiful. The wedding day went very smoothly, so we could relax and enjoy without any stress at all - they took care of every single detail. Many of the other vendors we worked with mentioned that they consistently had great experiences with Black Tie, and that their events are known to be very well-run! We would 1000% recommend Black Tie and Camp Hammond! Thank you so much!

Black Tie was the best wedding plan choice I made!

My husband and I were recently married at Harbourview at Jones Landing on Peaks Island. The Black Tie Company (TBTC) was engaged to handle the wedding planning, the catering, etc. My wedding coordinator, Britta was truly amazing over the many months she helped us with planning. Because of COVID we were both stuck overseas and had to plan the entire wedding remotely. Britta was available for video calls and instilled every confidence that the wedding would fit our vision, even though we were not even able to see the venue in advance. She was great through the planning process from start to finish. Then on the actual day of the wedding, Britta made sure everything went smoothly and was very good at handling stressed out family members. Everyone remarked that the wedding was beautiful and well organized. The catering and the wedding cake were all outstanding. Guests were raving about the food! We truly cannot thank her and TBTC enough. I would recommend them to anyone and hire them again in a minute. Thank you Britta! Adam and Rhen.

We highly recommend Black Tie

Black Tie was great. We had our rehearsal dinner and post-rehearsal dinner party at the Portland Club (this was a super cool place to have a Friday night party). We had our wedding at the Landing at Pine Point, which was literally the only venue anywhere in Portland area that could accommodate us (we had approx 310 guests). If you have a large guest list, this is a great spot to have it, as it was most certainly big enough, without feeling too big. I recommend asking for AMY to help as your contact at Black Tie, as she went above the call of duty for us, and essentially served as our wedding coordinator (which is beyond the scope of their duties) and made everything totally seamless for us. Amy was also real cool about being flexible as we wanted (for example, helping us get lobster on the menu for our rehearsal dinner). We didn't view any of the other facilities they have, but were pleased with the ones we used -- again, especially if you have a big guest list. Last but certaily not least when you are planning a wedding....their alcohol pricing was very reasonable (at least, as far as we were concerned, as our friends may or many not be big drinkers :). Fantastic!

We had an amazing wedding at The Landing at Pine Point and so much credit goes to Black Tie. Britta was so easy to work with and the venue looked amazing. The food was especially impressive. As a wedding professional myself, and my wife as a large event organizer, we have enjoyed catering and observed organization at hundreds of functions and weddings, and can attest that Black Tie ranks with the best of them. Highly recommended!

So much more than delicious food!

We loved working with the Black Tie Company! They provided catering services for our rehearsal dinner and wedding ceremony. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. All of our guests raved about the delicious food. We worked with Heather to plan all of the wedding details (and there are a lot!). She was wonderful to work with and helped guide us through the entire wedding planning process.

Absolutely perfect!

From the vendor recommendations, to the impeccable service and food to Amy, the outstanding wedding coordinator we could not have been happier with Black Tie. I credit them with turning what could have been a stressful event into a flawless, fun and perfect weekend. Every detail was taken care of, every wish accommodated. At the reception Amy seemed to be everywhere and handling everything with ease and class.

We had our daughter’s reception on Peaks Island at Jones Landing with Black Tie as our caterer, directed by Amy Collins. Black Tie was fabulous from food to set up/break down, and Amy was truly extraordinary. She was supportive, knowledgable, and enthusiastic — always available to help. The celebration went seamlessly. I cant say enough great things about our experience with the BTC! From our very first meeting, to the day of our wedding (and the numerous emails In between!), Amy Collins was there every step of the way and was absolutely amazing to work with! She truly went above and beyond in helping us to facilitate and experience the most perfect day possible!
Also, THE FOOD!! Can I just say that there was not a single thing we tried at our food tasting that we didn't like? Also, our family and friends cannot stop talking about how AMAZING the food and BTC staff were at our rehearsal dinner and wedding!
It's so hard to believe the day has come and gone, but Tony and I both agree, there is not a single thing we would change about it and we owe so much of that to Amy and the rest of the BTC staff!

Black Tie Company did an amazing job catering our wedding at Jones Landing on Peaks Island. Our coordinator Nicki was a pleasure to work with, from start to finish. We planned our wedding from halfway across the country, and Black Tie took the stress out of the process. Throughout the planning process every request was answered with “yep, we can do that”, and they delivered! The day of – our venue was beautiful, the food was delicious, but it was the little things that Black Tie provided that set them apart. Nicki even brought us appetizers while we were taking photos to make sure we did not miss out on the food we had so much fun picking at our tasting. Our special decoration requests were completely handled by the Black Tie staff, and we received numerous comments that our food was the best food people have had at a wedding. After our great experience with Black Tie Co, we would recommend them to anyone!

My husband and I worked with Heather Dusty and the Black Tie Company to plan our wedding at the Harbor View at Jones Landing. We have nothing but wonderful things to say about Heather and Black Tie. I was planning this wedding from California, and Heather made the whole process easy and painless. It was such a cool moment seeing my entire vision come together - it was the wedding that I have been dreaming about since I was little! Heather was also great about giving recommendations when I was at a loss or didn't know where to start - just the right balance of helpful without ever being pushy.
Heather also really helped working with other vendors. She always had a contact ready for whatever new detail I found out I needed (menus, programs, linens, etc.) and offered to coordinate. She helped coordinate communication even with vendors/partners that were particularly uncommunicative, which saved a lot of headaches.
The food was incredible, and the staff awesome. We worked with a phenomenal dessert chef who made my hydrangea, blueberry cake vision come to life - complete with ski cake topper.
I literally cannot say enough good things about Heather or Black Tie - they created the perfect day for Alex and me!!!!

We worked with Heather Dusty and I cannot say enough about how amazing Heather is. She took care of every single detail for our wedding and it was absolutely perfect. She was readily available at all times, unbelievably responsive, and definitely went above and beyond her services. She coordinated with all vendors involved, dealt with any headaches that arose and literally gave us the perfect day. I would recommend Heather 100 times over. My favorite line of hers was when I asked, are you going to need anything from us on the day of the wedding and her response was "I don't want you to even think about doing anything!" She always put us at ease and made planning a wedding feel like a walk in the park. Black Tie Company is great, but they are lucky and fortunate to have someone like Heather represent their brand. Thank you Heather! The feedback from our guests was 10 stars as well. Our wedding was in our backyard so we needed a lot of outside vendors, Heather worked with them all! She got us our tent, our table/decor rentals, our AV equipment, our lighting, our alcohol, everything! I wish I could attend a party put on by Heather every weekend because it was just perfect - so easy, so fun, beautiful atmosphere, stunning experience!

The Black Tie did an exceptional job with our wedding at Harbor View at Jones Landing. Madeline was great and worked with us to make sure every detail we wanted could happen. Avery the chef was amazing and created a wonderful menu for our wedding day. We decided to do a small cutting cake and petite pastries for dessert which the Black Tie Co. did an exceptional job at as well. Thank you for a great wedding reception.

The Black Tie Company did it all. From Menu Selection to decoration to Table Set ups. Many people commented they felt like they were on a movie set, and we could not agree more. The efficiency and attention to detail were greatly appreciated! Despite our schedule running *quite* late because of the collective love-fest that was happening, the team pulled-off a delectable feast! Everyone was RAVING about the food, and many guests said it was the best they had ever had. One guest said the only problem with the pies, was that he couldn't make a choice which one to have! Never once did we feel our ideas were ridiculous, even when our initial menu was enough to feed the Red Sox and their extended family! Our wedding planners patience, tact, attention to detail, grace and utmost professionalism were appreciated more than we could ever voice.

We had such a wonderful experience with the Black Tie Company! From first meeting Amy Collins while deciding on a caterer, to the food tasting, and to the rehearsal dinner, she was there every step of the way! I had many questions over the year of planning, and she always responded very quickly, with very helpful answers. The day of our wedding Amy and Nicky were very helpful and knowledgeable. We could NOT have been any happier with Amy Collins and the Black Tie company. We worked with them for a year planning our wedding events and Amy was nothing short of perfect - flexible, caring, understanding, with incredible attention to detail and organizational skills. Just looking at some of our photos - you can see her in the background adjusting things and attending to details in many of them! She had heart and soul and is absolutely amazing at what she does. Her staff is also incredible. Our guests made countless comments on the quality of both the food and service - we used Black Tie for event planning and catering for rehearsal dinner and all wedding events. We had multiple guests say that the food and drinks was hands down the best they have ever had at a wedding. We would reccomend Amy and the Black Tie Company to anyone, anytime, anywhere, without reservation!

Amy at Black Tie was phenomenal to work with! As soon as we toured the Portland Club with her, I knew it was the perfect spot for our New Years Eve wedding. Our food was spectacular, tables looked perfect, and our guests were more than happy. I still have people raving to me about how helpful the Black Tie staff was -- getting drinks, serving my grandparents so they didn't have to wait in line, decorating -- everything! Amy was especially wonderful - I cannot rave enough about her and Black Tie! I hope that someday soon I have the pleasure of working with her and Black Tie again! Where to begin? The Black Tie Co. is a true gem. Black Tie provided us with food and bar service for our rehearsal dinner, wedding dinner, cake, and desserts and everything was spectacular. Fresh seafood, local beers, delicious baked goods - just incredible and satisfied our pickiest foodie guests from NYC, Boston and Cape Cod. Sandra was our wedding planner and truly made our day. Above and beyond anything we could have expected. She worked SO hard to make it perfect and was a true wonder woman, providing us with world-class service and putting out fires left and right to make sure we were blissfully unaware of any problems and had the best day of our lives! Would recommend Black Tie to anyone. Amazing experience!

I was married on August 28th on Peaks Island, and food was one top priority for our wedding – Black Tie did not disappoint! All of the food has to be transported from Portland out to Peaks Island, which made me a little bit nervous, but everything was amazing – both in taste and preparation. Their staff is also top notch, they made sure that our guests were happy throughout the evening, and if they saw someone had a need, they stepped right in to help.
During our cocktail hour, both hot and cold butler passed hors d’oeuvres were served, as well as a full stationary display. My favorites were the lobster bundles and the grilled pear with Roquefort on a baguette.
We then served a plated, 4 course dinner to approx. 60 guests, with a poured wine service:
• First Course: a chilled melon-berry soup (amazing presentation!)
• Second Course: a salad of baby spinach, figs, and bacon
• Third Course: choice between crab cakes and a Carpaccio with lemon olive oil
• Fourth Course: choice between roasted butternut squash ravioli and spicy puttanesca sauce over orchiette pasta
• Dessert: chocolate and red velvet cupcakes, topped with edible flowers

Paula was our coordinator, and she was wonderful to work with. She responded promptly to all e mails and requests (including the addition of a guest late Friday night just before the wedding!). Much more than “just” a caterer, Black Tie also assists with your total event set up, and really guides you through the wedding planning process.
I would highly, highly recommend Black Tie Catering to any bride who loves truly great food and service.

We had our reception at The Portland Club, which is catered by Black Tie. Amy Collins was our coordinator and she did a wonderful job. We have absolutely no complaints. Everything went off exactly as we had discussed- and if it didn't, we didn't notice it. The attendents were extremely attentive to us and the food was excellent. I was also blown away by our cake. I think this ended up being one of my favorite parts of the evening. The cake came out gorgeous (just like our picture) and it tasted wonderful.
While Black Tie may be a little costly, the catering and service was well worth it. We wouldn't change a thing about the day.

My husband and I recently got married and had our reception at their Portland Club venue. It was perfect! We had 140 guests, but still wanted a cozy and intimate space. It was exactly what we wanted. It felt as though we had the chance to all get together in someones beautiful big old home. Amy Collins was who we used to plan everything through. She was EXCELLENT! Always on top of her game and a pleasure to work with. Even on the day of the wedding she was more than willing to move the cocktail hour back a bit so the bridal party could enjoy some of it after doing photos. Afterwords, we all went up into their antique billiards room for the after party where we had grilled cheese and tomato soup (a signature meal of my husband and I) at hand for late night partying :) Highly recommended.

Fantastic service & food

We used the Black Tie Company for our wedding last month. What's great about them is that they offer everything! We used them as our caterer, event planner, some rentals, and day-of set up/break down. Heather was our coordinator, and she was so awesome to work with in the months leading up to the wedding and the wedding day itself! The food was amazing! Seriously, all of our guests raved about the food! All of the setup and day of issues were taken care of and I was stress-free the morning of my wedding, all thanks to Heather/Black Tie. The only reason I didn't do 5 stars is because they are on the pricer side. If you have room in your budget, I would highly recommend this company!

I hired Black Tie for my combination 50th bday/retirement/moving to Maine celebration. Approx 90 guests participated, about half of whom had come in from other cities/countries. From the moment I sat down with event planner Amy Collins, I knew I could relax and leave the details to her. She and her team exceeded my wildest expectations, to the point where guests were coming up to me during the party to tell me how great not only the food, but also the staff, were. I had absolutely ZERO complaints and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Our experience with Black Tie catering our wedding was phenomenal. They have such an extensive and impressive menu that they were the clear choice for us. We needed to have a fully vegan entree, a gluten-free entree, and another option. They were amazingly accommodating with our requests, and even altered one of their standard vegetarian options to make it fully vegan. The food was great, the service was amazing, and working with Kathleen Pacella on the planning was a real pleasure. She also served as our day-of wedding coordinator, and she did a great job. Given how positive our experience with Black Tie was, it’s easy to see why they’ve been the top catering company in Portland for so long!

Worked with Sandra at Black Tie to plan our same-sex wedding at Harborview at Jones Landing (separate review for the venue specifically). Can't say enough wonderful things about Sandra. She helped us plan our wedding, our rehearsal dinner AND a welcome party all at Black Tie-managed venues. She was such a help--gave the appropriate amount of advice and suggestions without being pushy or making us feel pressured into doing anything that was too expensive/that we didn't want. She was utterly flexible, meeting with us at multiple times, answering incessant emails, changing numbers and preferences on the day of our event--everything we could ask for. Our venue was beautiful and although we were not able to have Sandra on-site for the entirety of our wedding she was there at the beginning and helped make everything perfect. Would recommend anyone to work with Sandra at Black Tie Co.!

Camille and the Black Tie Company did a fantastic job in ensuring our wedding came together smoothly! Planning a wedding long distance isn't the easiest of tasks, but Camille and her staff did a great job of making sure my husband and I were 100% pleased with the menu, decor, staff, etc. The food was absolutely incredible and exceeded expectations (food was a big part of the night for us and we both had high standards for the cocktail hour and dinner). Additionally, the decor for the reception turned out even better than I could have imagined! As the summer season got busy, there was a bit of delayed response in ensuring that last minute questions were answered and we received our final contract a bit closer to the wedding date than I would have preferred, however any last minute changes my husband and I wanted were addressed promptly and everything turned out spectacular! We couldn't have been more pleased on our wedding day!

We had our reception at the Portland Club, catered by Black Tie Co. Part of the package deals that the Black Tie Co. has includes a day-of-coordinator.

The Portland Club was the perfect backdrop for our reception. The house is gorgeous with plenty of side rooms for your guests to explore - the bar, the living room (appetizers) and the front room (which we used as a child's room). The food was delicious and the staff was very flexible and accommodating with the menu options. They seem to love to try new things.

Paula, our event coordinator, also loved to research options and find menu items, decor, cake pictures, etc. that fit with our vision. She found the most decadent vegetarian torte with whipped goat cheese that, together with chef Jason, they made come to life. It was delicious!

Paula was very quick to reply whenever I had a question. If she didn't reach me by phone, she always left very detailed messages or sent an email to ensure I had my answers as quickly as possible.

The reception decor was beautiful when we arrived! I had a lot of extra favors and left a note that they could be used as additional decoration throughout the venue, if they saw fit. They did an amazing job of using the favors as little accents on the cake stand, the guest table and a couple of other places. It was such a nice touch and better than what I envisioned. They also add many candles, at no extra cost, to the entire venue, which really adds a nice, romantic touch to the entire scene.

A few words come to mind: fantastic, rock star, saving grace and stress buster. I had the honor to work with Amy for my recent wedding at the Josias River Farm location. Everything was absolutely amazing. Amy took care of anything and everything that I asked of her. I had planned to rope in a friend to set up a few last minute items the day of, but nope! Amy took care of it and with a smile. She was calm and took care of business. I warned her ahead of time that our families can be….. let's just say "a bit much". She, once again, swooped in and had everyone smiling. I would absolutely recommend Amy and The Black Tie Co in a heartbeat. The venue was absolutely stunning and the food was de-lish!!! Thank you thank you thank you for making our big day so amazingly special.

Black Tie catering was fantastic to work with. We did start with one planner who left the company, but our new planner took over and did a great job, including dealing with a last minute Thunderstorm at our daughter's outdoor ceremony! (moved inside on a moment's notice). The food was great. I highly recommend them. Our daughter's wedding was at Jones Landing.

The Black Tie Company helped coordinate, organize, plan, and cater our wedding at the Portland Club, and we were lucky to have them! The space was beautiful, the staff was incredibly helpful in the planning stages and the day of, and we were well taken care of during the ceremony and reception by the Black Tie staff. The food at cocktail hour was delightful (go for the Chef's Table option! It's very unique, and a great spread) and our plated duet dinner was presented artfully and tasted terrific. Black Tie's baker also made our cupcakes and our tasting cake, and everything got rave reviews from us and our guests. They were worth every dollar for the service, food, and friendliness in working with us for our own unique wedding!

We picked Black Tie because they had the exclusive catering rights to the venue we wanted (Harbor View - Jones Landing). Paula (our event coordinator) and the chief were helpful in making sure our food selection is exactly what we wanted. Paula did a great job of helping us stay within our budget and suggesting great dishes that fit our theme. Paula worked with us from start to finish and acted as the day of Wedding Coordinator (everything from set-up, food and bar preparations, timing, lining up the bridesmaids, etc).

Highly recommend Paula Cano and Black Tie.

Amazing food, ok service

I cannot say enough good things about the food we had at our wedding. Black Tie has a great selection of dishes and their food was really yummy. HOWEVER, they were by far the most difficult vendor to get in contact with. We would sometimes wait a week for a response to simple question. Although our initial quote reflected a cake and a dessert bar, we hadn't heard from anyone about selecting a cake flavor or desserts to include on the dessert bar until two weeks before our wedding. When I finally spoke to the pastry chef, she did not seem to know that we had even planned to do a dessert bar (pastry chef is fantastic by the way and this is in no way a reflection of her services once we were connected - she was responsive and flexible and the final product was amazing). Every conversation we had seemed to be through a middle person who actually had no say in what could or could not be done. The day of our wedding, no one from Black Tie spoke to my husband or I, or anyone in our wedding party. They left without saying anything and when our best man went to look for someone to give a tip to, they were already packed up and gone. The food was fantastic, but the communication was horrible and put a lot of stress on us up until the very end.

Black Tie catered our rehearsal dinner. The food was great except for the dessert. We had a carrot cake that wasnt worth the calories (to quote one of my guests)- it seemed rather stale. Black Tie gave us a gift certificate as a gesture for the bad cake. Otherwise, the food was great and they were easy to work with.

Our wedding planner, Amy did an excellent job of putting together a plan that would accommodate our requests. Black Tie Company has some really lovely venues in the Portland area. We chose Camp Hammond because it was both beautiful and very affordable. It also had indoor and outdoor space. While what we wanted most was an outdoor wedding and reception, it was comforting knowing that had there been rain, we would have had an indoor option. I highly recommend using Black Tie's baker for your wedding cake or cupcakes; our Lemon wedding cake (lemon cake, lemon curd, and lemon buttercream frosting) was out of this world.

I have mixed feelings about Black Tie. The planning process was great -- I was planning my Maine wedding from NYC, and Amy Collins, the event coordinator, was great. She provided vendor suggestions, was able to meet with us a few times, gave lots of guidance, and always answered my emails quickly and thoroughly. So, I was disappointed when Amy had a colleague act as our event captain, but open-minded because Amy assured me that this person would provide the same level of service. THis was not the case. Our event captain wasn't invested in our event AT ALL. She paid absolutely no attention to our rehearsal, and throughout the whole process acted annoyed whenever I asked a question -- when I could find her to ask her a question, that is (and we were a very low-key crowd). At the end of the evening, we felt very rushed to leave and get on the ferry. I was used to a level of professionalism from the planning phase, yet didn't get it for the most important part, the wedding/reception itself.
To end on more of a positive note, the cake was delicious -- everyone raved about it.

Small parties beware!

We used Black Tie to cater our reception based on their reputation for making excellent food. They did not disappoint on that front, but during the planning process our coordinater, Camille, bascially stopped responding to our emails and telephone calls. When we asked why, we were told that it was because we were a small party (about 60 people) - even though we had already paid all of the deposits. It got so bad that we did not get a finalized menu until 4 days before the actual wedding, despite having been asking for it for the previous 6 months. Email requests for confirmation of particular details also went unanswered for 3 or 4 weeks. As a bride, it was extremely stressful to have these things left up in the air until literally right before the wedding. At one point we were even planning a back-up barbeque, just in case. This is not the type of service we expected from a company with such a top-notch reputation.

The actual wedding turned out to be fine in the end, with the staff very helpful and professional and the food excellent. But if we had it to do over again we would go with someone who would actually respond to us. Or at least insist on a different coordinator.

While the venues managed by Black Tie are beautiful, working with the company was sadly a disappointing experience. As other reviews have mentioned, when we finally received the contract there were hidden fees and surcharges that significantly increased the cost of our catering budget. One of the big selling points of their venue is absence of food/beverage minimums; but, when you tally in all the surcharges, the total comes out comparable if there had been minimums. I could accept this if the service were outstanding, but for the large sum that was charged, the service was lacking. There were discrepancies in how the service actually unfolded and what was stated in the contract and discussed with the event coordinator. A third of the guests at our reception don't drink and we specifically requested non-alcoholic apple cider to be given to them for the toast as well as for them to be offered a non-alcoholic beverage (e.g., soda, seltzer) to drink during the dinner. But during the toast, we realized these guests had nothing. (They toasted with water.) This made us very sad because we specified to the coordinator on at least two occasions and were assured our non-drinking guests would be accommodated during the toast and dinner, but we ultimately felt like their needs were ignored. Overall, the service itself was slow during the presentation of the entree. For the cocktail hour, we ordered only hot hors d'oeuvres, but they were cold by the time served. And after dinner, during our cake cutting, the top tier of our cake almost tipped off because the cake frosting was melting due to the high temperature of the room the cake was being kept in. I'm sorry to write this because the venue was stunning and everyone was so nice at the company, but for the amount of money we spent and for such a small wedding, the lack of attention to detail does not justify the cost that this company charges.

I was very disappointed in the service provided by Blacktie. Due to a tight planning schedule, we were stuck with them because they had exclusive rights to all the venues that were still available. Concerns included but were not limited to:
1) Amy, our contact person, was very unresponsive. It would take several weeks to hear back about questions. As a bride planning from out of town, this was very stressful. When we called, she was always "just stepping into a meeting."
2) The contract felt like a bait and switch. Despite telling them in January that we were doing a cocktail hour on a ferry with dinner on an island and receiving a proposed contract, they told us in SEPTEMBER (one month before the wedding) that they were now considering this itinerary two separate events. This essentially doubled all non-food costs
3) The food had something to be desired. The head table didn't have sauce on its entrees (!!!!) and the salad was EXACTLY the opposite of what we wanted. Since we were doing a shooter of chowder in the salad course, we just wanted mixed greens with a vinaigrette. We specifically said we didn't want the typical garden salad (ie grape tomatoes, red onion, grated carrot). Grape tomatoes, red onion, and grated carrot were all served.
4) Despite doing family style, they took a long time to serve between the salad course and entree, which set our whole day behind. Luckily we had an amazing wedding planner (not the one offered by Blacktie, someone we hired independently) to get us back on track

Would not recommend. Over priced, shady contract, lack luster meal.

Sadly, I can not give Black Tie a good review in my experience. They catered my wedding and we were disappointed. Aside from not showing up at a few of our preliminary meetings (we traveled from CT to Maine to meet them at an appointment, and the person wasn't there.), there were also other bumps in the road. At the reception, the lead Captain was rude to me and my guests. They also were not ready for us when we arrived (we were 10 minutes early....but we couldn't help that...the church got out a few minutes early. Were we supposed to stand outside and wait? I think they should have been ready for us...but they weren't.) So we hung around starving to death waiting for them to bring out the appetizers and set up the stationary appetizer stations. They were also supposed to pass around my signature drinks on trays to alleviate lines at the bar, and they didn't do this. The stationary appetizer station was never replenished, so it looked very bare and empty during the cocktail hour. We had a lobster buffet, and we were told there would be a separate plate for the lobster, and a seperate plate for all the side dishes. But when we go to the end of the buffet to get our lobster, they just plopped it on top of our side dishes (salad, potatoes, vegetables, fruit, etc....it all ended up tasting like lobster!). They also didn't give us fresh butter for our lobster, we had to use the butter from our steamers. (which doesn't sound like a big deal, but the butter had grit in it from dunking the steamers in it). To top it all off, Black Tie LOST MY FAVORS!!!!!! I spent over $400 on custom Godiva chocolates with candy lobsters on them, in white boxes with our picture on it and tied with a ribbon. They LOST THEM. So my guest never got them. They found them the next day and after a bit of an ordeal (I obviously had some things to complain about!) They ended up mailing them to us...but the arrived completely melted and I had to throw them out. There was no way I was going to be able to give them to people. The candy lobster melted off the chocolates and made a red gooey mess. Black Tie was at some times difficult to reason with after going back and forth on the phone trying to work out a solution to the issues. We did get apologies, but sometimes that is not enough. We did get back a small refund, but nothing close to what we thought we deserved. This was not at all fun to deal with after a wedding, and trying to get ready to leave for the honeymoon. Save yourself the trouble, and don't use Black Tie! You've been warned!

Do not use this catering company! While our contact answered our emails fairly quickly, it was impossible to come to terms on a contract. With each copy of the contract that we received there were extra charges that we did not request and large charges for items that a catering company must own just to do business. When questioned about these fees we were told that these things were non-negotiable and we could take the contract or leave it. We made several attempts to make it work and after being told over and over again that it was a "misunderstanding" on their part and that "most people just sign the contracts without reading them" we had enough! We were treated with nothing but disrespect from beginning to painful end! BEWARE!!!
