Felt like a princess
I absolutely loved my dress. But I wanted long lace custom sleeves, a bustle and hemming of several complicated layers of horse hair material. They did this flawlessly. I had 4 alterations appointments with them, as they triple checked what I wanted throughout the entire process. They added a gusset so I could have my long lace sleeves but also had the freedom of movement I needed to dance and raise my arms with no tension (a longstanding issue as a girl with bigger arms). They also celebrated me in each appointment, offering consistent excitement to keep me going. I felt like a princess and would recommend 100%.

Complete Lifesavers
I originally purchase my dress from a boutique in Tulsa, OK, and had taken my dress to their local recommended tailor. After ordering the size the boutique recommended, I took it to the tailor and after 30 minutes of struggling, we were unable to get the dress to fit. I left the appointment in tears, and decided, on the recommendation of two friends who had used AFTA, to take my dress here instead (I live in Rockwall, TX, so this was more convenient as well). During my first appointment they were able to zip the dress up (though it was a bit tight) and quelled any anxiety I had about not being able to wear my dress for my wedding day. They saw how worried I was about my dress situation, and were nothing but supportive and kind. I left the appointment feeling worlds better than I did coming in. They were able to fit the dress to me perfectly, I would recommend them to all brides!

Afta is the best
AFTA was incredible. Having your dress during a pandemic certainly isn't easy. AFTA made me feel safe while I was in their shop for my fittings and they did a wonderful job on my gown. My hips are larger than my bust, so my gown needed to be taken in up top and they nailed it!

The mother and daughter combo are the perfect match to make sure your dress fits the way you want it! They have such kindness and knowledge to make sure you look stunning on wedding day! I don’t even know where to begin. Altered for the Alter is your go to place. My dress fit perfectly! They listened to what I wanted and made sure I was comfortable before I left the store after each fitting. I always felt like a friend when I was in their shop. They were so kind and genuine. They would always ask me about my wedding and really invested in me. Your wedding dress is extremely special, take it somewhere where you can trust it will be done correctly and cared for. They even sewed some of my mom’s lace into my dress. Their prices are fair for the service you receive. I never once doubted that my dress wouldn’t be perfect. I could go on all day about this company! I suggest at least meeting with them to see what they can do for you!

Best Alterations in DFW!
I am so beyond thankful for Altered for the Altar and absolutely cannot recommend them enough! After going somewhere else for the first part of my alterations (and having the worst experience) my planner recommended Altered for the Altar and my only regret is not taking my dress to them from the beginning. Ruth squeezed me in last minute (10 days before my wedding), and patiently explained why I felt like the dress still wasn’t fitting right and what she could do to fix it. There is no doubt in my mind her and her team could have completely restructured the top of my dress and it would have been flawless!! But, I truly appreciated that she didn’t tell me what decision I should make. She just wanted me to be happy and feel beautiful on my wedding day, I literally cried tears of joy during my appointment. Each and every person we interacted with was kind, helpful and went above and beyond. Wedding planning is already stressful, so do yourself a favor and take your dress to Ruth and her team. I promise, from the second you step in the door you won’t regret it, these ladies are the best in DFW!

I cannot Say enough good things about Altered for the Altar! This mother/daughter run business did a perfect job! I added custom built sleeves to a nearly strapless dress, and it was so easy with them. I was able to order additional lace from the dress designer for them to use. I showed them where i wanted the sleeves to hit and they absolutely nailed it on the first go! They helped me turn it into my absolute dream dress and i cannot recommend them enough!

I am so happy that I chose to get my dress altered at Altered for the Altar! They worked with my busy schedule and helped to get me in for my three dress fittings. I was a bit clueless to the alterations process for a wedding dress, and they made it all simple and easy for me to understand. They were so helpful in making little changes that I wanted to my dress and gave me options for alterations that I would have never thought about! The ladies at Altered for the Altar are very attentive, all while being quick and efficient. I needed my dress taken in, hemmed, and the lace sleeves brought in. It’s a little nerve-racking when you see your dress in the middle stages (during the second phase) when it’s in the process of being altered, but I was very excited at the last fitting to see the final product. My dress was in the right hands
So glad that I found Altered for the Altar! I found the perfect dress with very delicate lace. However, when it initially came in, it buckled in the chest area. I tried it on and immediately started crying, I was terrified that it wouldn’t be able to be fixed without messing up the lace. Both my photographer and florist recommended Altered for the Altar and I’m so glad they did. I was put at ease at my first appointment and knew my dress was in the right hands. They did a wonderful job; my dress fit like a glove when they were finished with it. So glad I found them!!

I had my dress altered, my veil touched up, a blusher veil made, my mom's dress altered, and my flower girl dress altered. We had to have everything done in a time crunch, during the middle of wedding season, and they had everything done perfectly and on time! My dress fit perfectly and felt so natural, which is a blessing considering how wedding dresses are.
My flower girl dress was the one that I had worn when I was the flower girl in my aunt's wedding 20 years ago. They kept it in perfect condition and altered it, so that the dress wasn't cut. It fit perfectly on my flower girl and she absolutely loved wearing it!

Truly Amazing Experience
I had SUCH an amazing experience here! From the moment I walked in the door, I felt so comfortable. I was nervous to leave my dress with "just" anyone-- but they made it so easy. I loved that Ruth encouraged me to ask questions or point out concerns-- it really helped having her guidance to make decisions about where to alter the dress. For me, it was worth every single penny. I will absolutely use them in the future for any special occasion!!

A Team you can Trust
Finding someone to trust with altering your wedding dress is not an easy task! When I first walked into Altered for the Alter I felt so comfortable and you could tell immediately that they 100% knew what they were doing! Both my wedding dress and rehearsal dresses turned out beautifully and they were so helpful with undergarments as well! I will most likely be coming back for dress cleaning and preservation!

I lost 50 lbs and had a full lace wedding dress
The title says it all. I was excited to be in better health, but my dress was entirely lace, and it was WAY too big. After an insane amount of research, I decided to go with Altered for the Altar. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job! My dress looked like it was brand new when they finished it! They also ordered a custom bustier to wear underneath it and made sure it didn't show at all. Incredible experience! (One "BEFORE" picture posted - the rest are all from the wedding.)

THE BEST of the best!
I was fortunate enough to not need any major alterations on my dress but since my gown was head to toe lace, I was concerned about the alterations given the delicate nature.
A + Be where I purchased my dress recommended Altered for the Alter and I am SO glad that they did. From the second I walked through the door, I knew I was in great hands. The entire team at Altered for the Alter is knowledgeable, kind, and helpful.
I was pleasantly surprised that the alterations only took a few weeks and not several months like some of the other alteration shops in the area.
If you are looking for alterations that will keep your mind at ease, do not go anywhere but here!

Don't take your wedding gown anywhere else!
I was initially attracted to this company due to the high number of good reviews and they maintained that status after my experience with them as well! I brought my dress in as a size 12 and when I had it altered, I was approximately a 6-8. I had 3 fittings....the initial to assess my concerns and the alterations needed, a second fitting to confirm that the "soft" alterations made were accurate and tweak any last minute details, and a 3rd when the complete "hard" alteration was finished. My dress was silk but they made it fit me like it was made just for me! They even sewed up a small hole in my garment back during the process, which was really nice considering that's not their job. Ruth was very knowledgable to the point where I thought I knew my body and comfort level, but she proved me wrong and made me look the best I could in it, despite my initial objections. She is honest, fair, and cares deeply about customer service and satisfaction. I wouldn't take my gown any other place!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Altered for the Alter played a HUGE role in making my wedding day so perfect. I had the perfect dress from BHLDN and it just wasn't fitting me exactly how I had dreamed, so I went to Altered for the Alter and when I felt my final fitting my heart was filled with some much excitement because of how PERFECT MY DRESS WAS. The staff, the store, just everything was beyond my expectations. I didn't think getting my dress altered would be as enjoyable and perfect as it was. I am a little on the plump side and they made me feel so comfortable in my own skin. Thank you Altered for the Altar for making my wedding dress dreams come alive. Y'all are FANTASTIC!!! The ladies working here were all so nice and super accommodating. They also seemed very professional and made my dress perfect. It’s a little scary taking your $1000+ dress to someone for them to alter it and not mess it up, but they did an amazing job!! My favorite thing about them was how flexible they were with me! I ended up postponing my wedding after my first fitting and I was really worried if I kept getting my dress altered it wouldn’t fit me by the time I got married. However they were so nice in letting me put a hold on the alterations and continuing a couple of months later once my wedding was back on. I loved them! I give them 5 stars!!

Absolutely loved all of the wonderful women who helped me at Altered for the Altar! Each time I went into the shop the women were so incredibly kind, warm, helpful, and professional. I knew my dress was in good hands and they made my dress fit me exactly as I wanted. I came about Altered for the Altar because my salon, LuLu's Bridal, recommended them along with a very good friend of mine who had gotten married a couple months prior to my wedding gown purchase. After seeing how wonderful her gown looked on her, I was confident and set on going to Ruth at Altered for the Altar! Their team also worked with me on my alteration timeline in order to make sure everything was complete before my Bridal portrait session. Ruth was AMAZING with me, my dress, and my mom. I had three appointments with her and each one made me feel like an absolute princess. My dress didn't fit the second fitting, but Ruth made me feel assured and calm - and it now fits PERFECTLY!
My mom was worried she would not be able to bustle the dress, but Ruth took the time to go over how to bustle the dress several times with her. You can tell how much love and passion they put into their customers and service - I highly recommend Altered for the Altar for all brides!!!

Ruth did an AMAZING job on my gown. It fit like an absolute dream. Every fitting was super quick and easy, they were accommodating when I had to reschedule last-minute, and got me in early every time I was there. Ruth walked me through a few ideas and made certain I was comfortable with everything we did, showing me exactly what it would do to the gown and making additional suggestions. My bustle was so pretty on the day-of too! I had a chantilly lace dress that had been deemed difficult to work with but she made it look easy. I'd recommend them to every Dallas bride.

The easiest part of wedding planning was getting my dress altered. It was super quick for me to get in and out, and I had my dress in my hands a full week and a half before my wedding. I was directed to Alter for the Altar by multiple knowledgeable wedding planners and wedding industry professionals. Even with the confident referral, they exceeded my expectations. I bought a dress off the rack, 10 weeks before my wedding, and 10 sizes too big. Rylee worked her magic! She collaborated with me throughout the process and put my mind at ease as she created the vision of the dress. Her staff is great and the shop is super cute in the design district to top it off. They were flexible with their schedule and worked with my busy demanding work travel to get the fittings done at the right intervals. I also appreciated that they quoted the cost up front at the first fitting and stuck with it, so no budget surprises. Can't recommend Rylee highly enough!! My dress fit was flattering and even my family couldn't believe their eyes when they first saw me in the finished product.

I had a little bit of a unique issue with my dress (letting the bodice out a bit), and they were able to come up with a number of creative solutions to help me look my best on the big day. The whole experience was stress-free, and the whole staff has been warm and friendly throughout. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to take just a little stress out of a mostly necessary part (alterations) of the bridal experience!

I recently had my dress altered at Altered for the Altar and it came out perfect! The dress was a little bit tricky with a very detailed sequin pattern, but they did a wonderful job of explaining to me exactly how they were going to alter it (in a different way than they typically do), to not take away from any of the unique detailing. When I went for my final fitting, it looked amazing and they took the time to show me exactly how the bustle worked (and they sure made it easy!). They were very friendly, flexible and detail-oriented. I highly recommend taking your dress to professionals who do the job right the first time around. Thank you again!!!

Total cliche, but I would give Rylee and Ruth MORE than 5 stars if I could. My bridesmaids dresses have always turned out fitting like a glove and making me feel totally confident. But what's more than that, they completely turned around a friend's wedding gown that had been botched by another alterations team (who shall remain nameless). I'm not kidding when I say they took this wedding gown from a disaster to a dream and made sure my friend's day (and $$$ dress) wasn't ruined. Don't trust your dress to ANYONE but this dynamic duo and their flawless team!

I worked with Ruth on my dress, and she was fantastic! I had a mermaid style dress that needed to be fit from a standard length to my 5'2'' frame. Ruth was great about taking the skirt up from the bodice, instead of the bottom, so I wouldn't lose many of the beautiful skirt details. I also had sleeves I wanted to attach to my dress, and Ruth took out some fabric to tailor them perfectly to my body. We even ended up lowering the back of the bodice to get more of a keyhole look and elongate my frame more. Ruth was so patient and helpful in playing with different options for my gown. She listened to everything I wanted for my gown and made it fit like a dream! The bustle she put in looked absolutely perfect! You couldn't even tell the dress was picked up during the reception. As an out of town bride, Ruth and her team were so accommodating to schedule me when I was in town. Even with my alterations appointments spread out a few months each, the dress fit like a glove each time! We ended up needing four appointments for my gown instead of her standard three, because my gown was so intricate and had the custom additions, but Ruth put me at ease throughout the entire process! My last fitting was the day before my wedding and I wasn't nervous about it fitting at all :)
In the end, the dress looked like it was made for me and I received so many compliments on the day of my wedding. I would recommend Ruth and her team to any bride in the DFW area! She is well worth the price for her knowledge and expertise.

I can’t say enough good things about these ladies. They are all fantastic. I was not able to try my dress on in the correct size at the shop and when I got it in the right size it was awful. So awful that I went out and bought another dress. Then my wedding planner referred me here and Rylee did such a wonderful job and was able to get it to look the way I wanted it to. Highly recommended.

Ruth was completely wonderful to work with! I was very worried about my dress fitting correctly, and she took all my worry away! On my third fitting, my dress was a little snug, and they were more than happy to do a fourth fitting to make sure I felt my best - and at the last fitting, it fit like a glove! Their hours are also very accommodating to work schedules, and they are more than accommodating when it comes to busy lives. Thank you for making my wedding dress what I dreamed it would be!

The BEST, most AMAZING alterations team ever. Riley did such an amazing job on my gown. My gown needed so many things to fit my body correctly and Riley nailed it. I don't think there would have been any way for my gown to fit me any better. Riley added a back to my dress as well as a part in the front and you would never know. This was all to accomadate my body and I never once felt uncomfortable. Riley was also compasionate to my situation and provided excellent customer service, which is so rare and hard to find these days. I felt beautiful on my day and had no worries or "pulls" on my dress. I walked down the aisle with full confidence and the perfect fitting dress!! I think of my overall wedding experience, this would be my favorite company and people to have worked with.

Riley is amazing! I went in for my wedding gown alterations not really requiring a whole lot but when I asked for custom sleeves to be built for my Eve of Milady strapless gown they brought their A game and I was astounded at the craftsmanship and seamlessness. The sleeves look like they were part of the original gown and not added on! they had the same pattern and really knew how to put it all together to achieve what I was looking for. They also changed my bustle on the dress because it was a little off and totally replaced it with a French bustle. Everyone was amazed by my dress and I couldn’t have been happier with how it all turned out. I would recommend every bride see Riley at Altered for the Altar at Stardust Celebrations.

I found a picture of my dream dress (good news). The dress was 4 years - many fashion seasons - old (bad news). It's a long story but I found the dress - unworn - online. The girl had purchased the dress and didn't lose enough weight to wear it for her wedding. Unfortunately - they had tried to alter it for her. 2" had been added to each side of the bodice and some creation work had been done on the bust line. The fabric was incredibly fragile and NEEDED A PROFESSIONAL! The first alterations place that I visited had me horrified (by their rudeness and inept abilities) that I might not be able to get the dress to fit me. Fortunately, the designer suggested that I call Altered for the Altar. Still shellshocked from my first experience, I entered Altered for the Altar with reluctance. Within minutes I was comfortable that they knew what needed to be done. I paid for the alterations and scheduled two more appointments for fittings. It took quite a lot of work but in the end the dress was GORGEOUS! It fit me and Altered for the Altar did a 5 STAR JOB! THANK YOU!

Let me start off by saying Altered for the Altar is a godsend. Not only did they do a fabulous job on my wedding dress and were so attentive to what I needed, but they were able to assist me in a wedding crisis :) My Maid of Honor's dress was altered by another tailor and he ended up getting something on the dress and told her to dry clean it (I'll save my thoughts for this topic for another review). She then took it to the cleaners and I am not sure what transpired but the fuchsia dress ended up having black all along the seems. This is all a week before my wedding and the dress was pretty much ruined.
I rushed the dress to Ruth and her team and they were more than willing to help me. I think at one point we had the entire crew brainstorming about what to do. We ended up overnighting fabric from the designer and Ruth is currently working on reworking the dress.
I cannot tell you how thankful I am for Altered for the Altar. They are all so helpful, warm, friendly and have great senses of humor. I trust them hands down and I would give them 100 stars if I could. They are brilliant at what they do and you can fully trust they will not only treat you right, but your garments will look fantastic. A shout out to Ruth, Reagan and Rylee for going above and beyond!

Ruth and her daughter worked on my dress alterations at Lulu's Bridal Boutique. Even though they are based in Plano, they came to Lulu's once a week, so I was able to have all of my fittings done in Dallas, which was very convenient. I chose a tight fitting mermaid gown, and Ruth made it fit my curves like a dream! Ruth also made my custom veil, that I would wear every single day if that were not so strange. I (surprising even myself) fell in love with a blush pink dress, and wanted a veil to match. I found the perfect color tulle at JoAnn fabrics for $.99/ a yard. I took it to Ruth and told her I wanted to add sparkle around the edges to match the sparkly belt on my dress. A few weeks later, I had a veil that literally looked like it had been designed by Maggie Soterro for my dress! And the price was so amazing- I feel like I got a steal!

Ruth & Rylee are truly gifted! We arrived at our first meeting a bit panicked, because my daughter's dress needed serious alterations. Rylee had my daughter put on the dress, and while she looked the dress over, she talked to my daughter and asked what her vision for the dress was. Rylee immediately understood the look my daughter was going for, and told us exactly how she would altar the dress. We went in 3 subsequent times for fittings, and when my daughter put on the dress for the final fitting, it was amazing! The dress was exactly what my daughter envisioned! Ruth & Rylee are so wonderful to work with, and they are true miracle workers!

Ruth is AMAZING. I'm a plus size bride and, while the dress I purchased was beautiful, Ruth had to do a lot of work to make it absolutely perfect. My first appointment was just me crying a lot because I didn't feel like I'd ever feel pretty in my dress and my last appointment there were tears of absolute joy. Ruth is an incredible talent and she was able to come up with a solution for my dress to make me feel more beautiful than I ever thought possible. I wish I could post a picture!

I brought my dress in to have the length hemmed and a bustle put in. Apparently, the corset needed to be brought in as well. I paid in full at my first fitting. I returned for the second fitting to approve changes. When the dress was being hung back up by the associate, the dress ripped where the loops were sewn to hang. I spoke to the owner, the next day, when I placed a frantic call. She assured me that everything would be perfect. I went to the final fitting and the dress looked great. Not a single thing wrong. Due to my first dance being a waltz and my gown design (ball gown) I needed the back bustle to be adjusted several times during the fitting. Instead of the original 7 point bustle, they put in 13! The owner made sure I was happy and that I got exactly what I wanted before I left. At the end, my garment bag ripped as they zipped it so they gave me a new one because they partner with the boutique my dress was made at. Everyone worked hard to make sure my dress was perfect and I really appreciate their efforts.

Go to place for alterations!
Altered for the Altar was a fantastic experience. They are all so nice and accommodating. I came in looking for some customization as far as adding a white backing on the mid section and addition of straps. I was blown away at how beautiful the transformation was. There also was a pink mark front and center on the dress and these wonderful girls were able to recreate the special beading and you couldn’t tell the difference. Wedding dress alterations are expensive, but these women are worth the money!

Transformed my dress to make me feel beautiful!
There is so much pressure on brides about what your wedding dress looks like. I was not totally satisfied with my decision after purchasing my dress - but after working with Altered the the Altar I got a dress I LOVE! After our initial meeting we planned to lower the back of my dress, make it tighter on my waist and accentuate my booty more. The end result was exactly what I envisioned. After the alterations I felt confident in my dress and stopped thinking about any other potential gowns. Thank you Altered for the Altar for making me feel beautiful on my wedding day!

I had three fittings at Altered for the Altar, and I really appreciated all their knowledge about their craft, how they were willing to walk me through what needed to be done, and their willingness to listen and provide suggestions when I had concerns. The dress turned out perfect (with quite a complex bustle, but it looked gorgeous), I had several people at the wedding comment that it fit like it was custom made. They were even able to figure out a good solution for a bra that gives enough support without ruining the look of my backless dress. Overall a wonderful experience!
