Dawn is amazing!

Dawn altered two dresses for my daughter for her upcoming wedding and a dress for myself (mother of the bride). She fit us into her schedule within a week of calling her and had completed all three dresses within the next week. Her work was impeccable and the pricing extremely affordable. I plan on using her for all my future alteration needs and would highly recommend her.

Dawn is the best!

Great experience, great work

Dawn is a fantastic seamstress with a kind heart. She altered my wedding gown 3 times for me. The last time she squeezed me in last minute, very close to my wedding day. She was very patient with me and that I had lost weight between each time I met with her, which gave her more to do. She was also patient with me when I made specific requests. I'm very grateful for her services and kindness. To top it off, she does the best bustles I've ever seen! Your train isn't just going to get hooked and hang there, she makes the bustle look like part of the dress' design. I can't recommend Dawn enough.

Highest Quality at a Reasonable Price

Over the last 4 years, Dawn had altered at least 10 dresses for my daughter and I, ranging from a cocktail dress, prom gown, several pageant fun fashion pieces to a huge 30-lbs pageant gown that was fitted over the body and had a cascade of layers and a huge train at the bottom. We have always been incredibly happy with Dawn. She solves every little problem with the dress, making sure that the final result is perfect for the woman wearing it. Her work is beautiful and turnaround and pricing very reasonable. I recommend Dawn with all my heart!!!

Dawn was amazing!

Dawn altered my lace wedding gown and did a phenomenal job! She added a new belt and beautiful pearl bustles that blended in seamlessly. She was even able to fit me in two weeks before my wedding when I needed some last-minute alterations. Dawn was responsive, personable, and made the whole process so easy. I would recommend Dawn in a heartbeat!

Wedding gown alterations

Dawn was recommended to me by family friends. I wasn’t sure who to go with as I live in PA and it’s hard to trust somebody with your wedding dress, but they were so sure she would do a good job i decided to make the hour and a half drive over every time I had an appointment. It was well worth it! She fit my dress to me perfect and saw my vision of what I wanted and made it come true. If you are in Hagerstown or the surrounding area I definitely recommend dawn!

Dawn is Fantastic!!!!!!!!!

I needed alterations done quick. Within a week of my wedding, my other dress hadn't arrived. I was about to panic. I went and bought a new dress and had no idea who to get to alter it for me. I searched online and found Alterations by Dawn. Reviews looked good so I gave her a call. I was there within the hour getting fitted. She was amazing. She lived up to all the reviews I read. I would recommend her to anyone who wants a friendly and experienced seamstress who is quick and efficient. Did I mention friendly!!!! Dawn’s the BEST!!!

We’re planning our wedding in just 4 months so once I had my dress I needed it altered ASAP. One call to Dawn and I was not only put at ease by her cheerfulness but by how quickly she was able to get me in for my initial fitting. She has my lace wedding dress completely done in under two weeks and it fit PERFECTLY! She was so sweet and since my Mom & sister couldn’t be there with me she helped me FaceTime with them while I modeled the dress. Her pricing is fantastic and the quality of workmanship is top notch. I found Dawn Brooky from Alterations by Dawn to be the greatest seamstress who provided me a beautifully altered wedding gown that we thought was going to be difficult to alter but she did the most amazing job and created miracles for me. I couldn't have been happier with her service. Her friendliness was also a plus, such a sweet woman to work with and always making my appointments for fittings super smooth and comfortable. Appointments were not hard to get and she had flexibility which was great for me. Thanks again! I will highly recommend her to my friends and family for the future!

I have been going to Dawn for alterations of my clothing for over 10 years, including my bridal gown being amazingly created by her. I am sad to see that some people weren't as happy with her work as I know her very personally and know how amazing of a seamstress and designer of wedding gowns she is. She's worked with designers like Skazzi and Vera Wang which should tell you how inincredible her work and professionalism is. I work for a very important person where I need to wear high end designer suits and would just die if it weren't for Dawns help in altering my clothes for my petite size. I think she is just great and feel very blessed to have someone who can tailor my clothes for my needs and work with me so well. Thank you Dawn, you have always been a life saver!

Dawn was wonderful! I didn't have much flexibility in my schedule to meet and I had a very short time frame to get my wedding dress altered (only 3 weeks); she went above and beyond to work with my busy schedule. The alteration were perfect; my dress fit exactly as I imagined it should! She was extremely professional and friendly and her prices were very reasonabe. It was an overall wonderful experience!!!

Wow. What can be said about Dawn. Maybe the better question is what can't be said about Dawn? She is just awesome. If it needs to be done she can do it. She can and has preformed miracles. I have had her do many different alterations for me, everything from formal to minor alterations. Every job carries the same high quality, great prices, and wonderful friendly smile. Dawn was able to turn my dress into exactly what I wanted. I wasnt too pleased when I first got it home..somehow the bling of buying it faded....but when dawn gave me ideas and put them in place...wow....I am a happy bride to be now!!

I cannot express how happy I was working with Dawn. I was referred to her by the bridal shop I was buying my dress from, and she came to the rescue when my mother had a meltdown about how the "from the factory" bridesmaid's dress fit on my sister. She assured my mom that everything would be alright, and quickly went to work pinning not only my sister's but my mothers and mine in no time at all. When we came back, my sister's dress fit wonderfully and she took the time to show my mother and my bridesmaid how to bustle my dress. She made all those strings look so simple! My bustle and my bridesmaid's bustles looked beautiful, and she made my mother's dress fit like a glove. She was extremely professional and an all around wonderful person to work with.

I also have known Dawn for years. I lost a LOT of weight before my wedding. Not only did Dawn alter my wedding dress, she altered many other clothes for me. I wear suits to work, and as I lost weight of course my clothes were too big. Not wanting to spend exorbitant sums of money for new suits, I took them to Dawn for alterations. Some of them were Pendelton wool suits. They fit perfectly when Dawn was finished--even better than they had fit when they were new!! If anything wasn't perfect, Dawn was quick to fix it. Her prices are reasonable, and she is very professional and courteous. She even made my veil and headpiece for my wedding, and it was beautiful--I got nothing but compliments. I was out of the area for a while and went to someone else for alterations. Boy, was I glad to get back to Dawn!!! I believe that the first review was written by the owner of the shop where she worked (notice how the name of the shop got put in the review to get publicity!). And I also know there is no way Dawn could have been fired. She wasn't really an employee--she was an independent contractor. So, I put no faith in the first review. But all the rest sound like pure Dawn.

I have know Dawn for over fifteen years. She not only alters wedding gowns and mother's dresses, but also woman's slacks and blouses.

My mother lost a lot of weight but did not want to buy new clothes since she would have to wear juniors clothes. Juniors style of clothes did not fit her correctly nor did they suit her. So we asked Dawn to come to our rescue.

Dawn told us it would be about four weeks before the five slacks could be tailored since she was very busy trying to alter a wedding gown. After three weeks, Dawn called saying the slacks were finished and would we please come in and try them on.
The slacks were done to perfection. I was skeptical since Dawn had only pinned two of the slacks instead of all five.

Since I was interested in how she could take something that I considered unsuitable to wear, and change it to something different, Dawn asked me if I would like to watch her change the bodice of a wedding gown from having sleeves and a high neckline to a dress without sleeves and a scoop neck. I was amazed how fast and accurate she worked. The dress turned out to be gorgeous!

Dawn has remained a friend and I will always recommend her to my friends.

I am in just shock over the review I have read on here. I have worked with Dawn on several occassions. If there is anyone that can fix anything it is Dawn. I have watched her take dresses and make MAGIC happen. The brides that have been there while I was there had nothing but good things to say about her. She really makes you feel comfortable in an already stressful time. Dawn will make you feel like part of the family. She will listen to you complain or be cheerful about your day or the up coming events. She has never once been rude to me. I dont think there is a rude bone in her body. I just dont know WHO this bride saw and where. But it was not my precious Dawn. She is not replaceable and I am sure that everyone is correct that someone is trying to bring her down. But her work speaks for itself. No words can ruin the MIRACLES she creates both in her work and her personality. If I am in a crunch she gets me taken care of, if I have months she still makes sure I get all the right fittings in before the event. She has taken care of me for several occasions and I think I would have been lost with out her. I think her old boss is scared because her business will not ever be able to replace such a talented and remarkable seamstress. I guess they consider her a threat. Dont worry my darling Dawn you will always have my business and anyone I know. You are truly AWESOME!!!!

Oh my gosh...I just read that awful review...BRIDES DONT LISTEN TO IT... that is not a real bride writing that review..it is her former employer at a dress shop that she quit because of the working conditions. I know this because she has been doing my entire families alterations and weddings for at least 15 years...and never have any of us had one complaing. I knew her former boss was nasty..but this takes it all.

I know for a fact that Dawn has set up shop in Hagerstown, MD and this has pissed off her former employer...
She WAS NOT FIRED, SHE QUIT.. I have seen the paperwork as we have discussed the outrageous "contract" over dinner.

Dawn Brooky is one of the nicest ladies you will ever meet. She goes out of her way to make the brides and anyone she sees feel comfortable and at ease. She would NEVER say of the things the other review says.
I say go see her and find out for yourself what she is really like and then whomever posted that post can eat their words for being so cruel.

All of my friends and famiy use her services and she does outstanding work at great prices..

My compliments on Dawns work for a short time frame.My fiance was very pleased with fitting her in to accommodate her schedule at a pressing time. Her work was bragged on for fitting and suggestions. I find Dawn to be a breath of fresh air. She helps to take away some of the stress of my wedding day. My dress needs help and she can make magic happen. She has ideas and helps to make everything fall in place. Something a bride needs with so much going on otherwise. Dawn has done other work for me as well and everything she does is top notch. She is just a wonderful person all around. Easy to work with and her prices are wonderful. She has my business. If you need someone to help with a dress or alteration Dawn is your girl. I have known Dawn for over thirty years. She altered my wedding dress for me in 1974 and essentially made it over again in 2000 for my daughter who wore it in her wedding. What a gem she is ! Over this period of time, she has altered everything thing imaginable from suits, skirts, slacks, dresses, curtains, etc. You name it, she's fixed it, altered it, or created it. Never once have I ever found her to be less than perfect to deal with. Dawn and I have also become close friends over this period of time and knowing her the way I do, I can only say that I am sure the "raving bride" must have forgotten to take her Prozac that day! Dawn cannot do sub-standard work and that was what was expected of her at "I do I do." Rather than compromise her professional standards, she chose to leave and venture out on her own. I believe the "raving bride" was writing on behalf of someone who is very insecure, vindictive, and actually "needs to get a life." Dawn's work is impeccable as are her standards, both personally and professionally. I have recommended her to many people, both friends and acquaintances, and have never heard a complaint one about their encounters with her.
They have all been extremely pleased as have I. She always has a smile on her face and a hug for anyone who might need it. She's one in a million and I will continue to recommend her services as I have in the past.

My dress was done by Alterations by Dawn. She is wonderful to work with and provided a professional, top-of-the-line gown. She was on time with deadlines and always willing to make a chage, if necessary. I have to wonder if the terrible review of Alterations by Dawn was written by someone with an ax to grind or submitted to the wrong vendor. None of the derroguatory remarks in the review applied to any of the contacts I had with Dawn.

I was allowed to watch Dawn take apart and alter other gowns, I was very happy with her expertise and knowledge, we got to know each other quite well over the last 6 months and any negative comments about her would be from a former employer that is holding a grudge. I had Dawn alter my wedding dress. I had it brought in a little, the top clipped back at the bust, the dress shortened, and a bustle added. She did a great job on bringning the dress in, shortening it, and clipping the bust. i had a 5 pooint bustle at 2 of the point broke within 10 minutes of me having the dress bustled on my wedding day.

I bought my dress at David's Bridal and took it to Dawn Brooky for alterations since my friend recommended her (from 5 year ago). Dawn wrote down the wrong times and dates the first two appointments. It was a little stressful and frustrating. I didn't really expect much of the gown because that wasn't my main focus, so her tailoring was okay.

The only problem I had was that my dress fell apart after we tried to bustle it during the wedding... And then everyone ended up stepping on it and ripped it. The work came undone. The corset I had her tailor was also not the best fit. We weren't able to tighten the dress enough in the back because of the fit so the dress was a bit loose in the waist area. The fabric was not saved like expected, but it could be my fault because I didn't specifically ask to have the fabric and applique saved...

Dawn was pleasant when I spoke to hear. Nothing against her... It was just a bit stressful.

I received an advertising postcard from Alterations By Dawn a few months ago. Her website says to contact her not through the website but through regular email. I have emailed her twice asking for more info and have yet to receive a response. I do not understand why send out the postcard if you are not interested in gaining new clients. She is very close to me so I was very happy to receive the postcard.

My first bridal gown fitting took place at Dawn’s home. For the second fitting I arrived at Dawn’s house and she was not home. I knew she worked at a bridal shop so I thought to drive over there. She was there and said she had confused my dress for one from that shop (thinking the appointment would be there). I felt very awkward because I was not a customer. She asked another worker tie up my dress, she could not do it, and then told me to wait for Dawn. Dawn finally came over she stuffed me into the dress. I had concerns about the fit but she assured me that it was supposed to fit that way. 2 weeks later when I tried the dress on at my sister’s it did not fit at all! I immediately called Dawn. Dawn didn’t return my call for a day and a half. When she did, she left a message to call her back if I wanted to make an appointment. I already had another appointment with another seamstress for the next morning at that point. The seamstress was shocked that another seamstress would tell me that the dress actually “fit” properly. She found many other issues with the dress as well…crooked bustle, cups outside the dress (should have been inside the dress), hand stitching (not machine stitched), crooked stitches …the list goes on. I hadn’t noticed things given I felt so rushed during the awkward second fitting. I called Dawn right away with these issues but she never called me back. Instead she sent me an email refuting everything I told her and said I didn't "give her a chance" to fix the mistakes. If it was just the fit issues, fine, but it was all of other problems and the poor customer service that I was very disappointed with. She also said that she would refund me $100 dollars but never did. The only positive things I can say was she did do nice beading work to the back of my dress. I do not recommend Dawn for bridal alterations. Maybe Dawn was having an off day when she was working on my dress but it's not worth the risk with your precious bridal gown.

A BRIDE'S WORST NIGHTMARE! Truly brides, do not risk working with this woman, maybe she was just having a bad day with me, but do you really want to risk her having a bad day with you, on your precious dress?!!? No exaggeration that she is a bride's worst nightmare in a tailor. When I came in for my first fitting, right on time, she was talking with someone outside telling me that she will be in when she is done "visiting." Next, she was supposed to make my bustle and fix the top of my strapless dress so it didn't scratch me. She made the bustle hooks OUT OF PLAIN SEWING STRING, so that when i tried the dress on at home they were already breaking walking around and you can imagine what would have happened with dancing. The top she sewed in a lining in a manner i cant describe other than it looked like a 3 yr old did it. And it still scratched!! The worst part was the outright rudeness: When i asked her if there is anything she can do for the scratchiness like sow the top away from me, she kept incessantly reminding me that her next client is coming (she gave me 15 min for a first fitting!) and how lucky i am the next client is late and how when she comes she is dropping everything with me, she hopes i know. The best (ie worst) was when i asked her to keep sowing the top down bc it seemed to be helping the scratchiness and she goes "Boy you just trying to milk me for all I'm worth." Worth?! Worth nothing. Thanks goodness the shop she worked (not anymore, owner told me she got fired, which tells you a lot) at "I Do I Do" Bridal covered the costs to taking me to another tailor (a week before the wedding! how stressful) who simply put on tape on the inside and voila, scratchiness gone (shouldn't Dawn the Tailor have thought of using tape instead of making me feel bad about my "too sensitive" skin) . Awful, simply awful person and experience.

*0 Quality of Service. *Very* poor quality work overall, plus Dawn ruined my sash and my sleeves. The sash is replaceable, but not the sleeves.

*0.5 Responsiveness. Dawn responded to my calling to make appointments, but she was not responsive to my requests for a refund. Her responses to my problems with my dress were not based on concern for me, for my dress, or for my stress, but for how she could salvage her reputation and cast blame on me.

*0.5 Professionalism. Dawn treated me decently in her fitting room. When I came to her with the problems in her work and to request a refund, she treated me rudely, implied that my motive for contacting her was because I had dress-regret, and said that she was the professional, there was nothing wrong with her work, and that I was the one with the problem. She said she would work on my dress again if I wanted her to, but she would do it her way, not in the way I wanted. Her way caused the problems in the first place, and I won't trust her with my dress again. I also unfortunately expect Dawn to reply to my review in a manner to cast doubt on my legitimacy, as she mentioned she would and could respond to any reviews I left online.

*0 Value. I paid Dawn $280 for alterations, all of which I am now re-doing myself, other than the hem. Her poor workmanship is costing me time, costing me emotional energy, and costing me money beyond what I paid her. I will not take the dress back for more of her poor work. I have requested a refund for everything but the hem, but she will not issue a refund. Her final response was "perhaps we weren't meant to do this dress together." I paid her good money to do good work. She got my money, but I got only poor-quality work and an unwearable dress as she left it. That's not right by anyone's standards.

*1 Flexibility. I'm giving Dawn a full star for flexibility, as I misjudged traffic once from Winchester, VA, and she made time to see me at the bridal shop instead of at her home.
