The first time I was asked to officiate a wedding was for my child, and I was also asked to keep it a secret from my spouse! The fact that the couple was engaged was no secret, but the wedding was moved up by several months and they decided to spring that fact on their guests as a surprise. I had to keep that fact to myself for months, but it was worth the facial expressions when the ceremony was announced!

As for me, I was immediately hooked. Weddings allow me to bring together my skills of interviewing and writing, my talent of having an announcer voice, and my desire to be surrounded by joy to bear all at the same time. While I spend time writing the ceremony that best captures the wishes of the couple, I never forget that what I'm really doing is helping to turn the page to a whole new chapter of life together. That's an awesome responsibility, and it never gets old for me.
