Valentine DTLA by Wedgewood Weddings
About this venue
Valentine DTLA by Wedgewood Weddings is a one-of-a-kind industrial chic event venue nestled in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles' historic North Sea district. Behind a pair of unassuming ocean-blue facades lies an extraordinary 15,000-square-foot campus of distinct, discoverable spaces — each one a living testament to more than a century of Los Angeles history. Originally constructed in the 1920s as part of the city's seafood market and industrial corridor, these buildings have served as a hotel, a fish-and-oyster operation, industrial workspaces, and creative production studios. Every chapter of that storied past has left its mark, and it is precisely this layered history that gives Valentine DTLA its soul. Raw industrial bones have been thoughtfully preserved and celebrated, while reclaimed lumber, steel, original flooring, and salvaged windows were masterfully repurposed into ceilings, walls, furniture, and decorative elements — ensuring the history of the buildings lives on in every surface and detail. Connected by a secret passageway, the venue's many environments flow seamlessly from one to the next, creating an event experience that surprises, delights, and invites discovery at every turn.
The celebration begins in the Grassroom Greenhouse — a breathtaking ceremony space where towering birds of paradise, ponytail palms, and lush alocasia create a living urban oasis beneath a soaring glass roof. Natural light streams through the greenhouse ceiling at all hours, casting a golden warmth over reclaimed brick floors and arched doorways built from the building's original bow truss ceilings, framed by stained glass windows and lit by handmade copper fixtures. Raw, romantic, and utterly one of a kind, the Grassroom Greenhouse sets a powerful and unforgettable tone for everything that follows.
From the ceremony, guests flow naturally into the Ocean Room with Grotto Bar — a space that transitions the energy of the celebration from reverent to festive. The Grotto Bar is a showstopper in its own right, featuring a glowing copper bar top and cavern-like walls embellished with ceramic starfish and sea anemones by artist Josh Beckman. Leafy tropical plants soften the industrial edges of the space, creating an atmosphere that feels at once lively and intimate. The Ocean Room itself is named for the textural clay seaweed murals lining its walls — the work of artist Ivan Lee Mora, whose carved totemic sea creatures keep watch over the celebration below. Tall pink sliding doors open wide between the Grassroom Greenhouse and the Ocean Room, allowing the two spaces to breathe together as guests mingle and take in their remarkable surroundings.
As the evening unfolds, guests are welcomed into the Sunset Room and Palm Courtyard, served by the glowing Cinder Cone Bar. The Sunset Room is the dedicated dining heart of the reception, where patchwork concrete floors, repurposed wooden walls salvaged from the original hotel, and a sweeping clay sunset mural by Josh Beckman create a warm, textural backdrop for seated dinners. Handcrafted wooden tables built from tongue-and-groove floors recovered during renovation are paired with hand-stitched Italian leather Arrben chairs, bringing elevated yet deeply personal warmth to every place setting. The Palm Courtyard serves as the vibrant social hub — an expansive, light-filled garden space anchored by a 35-foot glass greenhouse roof, flourishing tropical plants, crystal fountains, and carved big cats tucked into lush greenery. The pièce de résistance is a massive 14-foot heptagonal keyhole door hand-painted by artist Stacy Smith with lemurs, butterflies, and chameleons — a dramatic architectural centerpiece that never fails to captivate. When the sun goes down, the venue's DJ-ready sound system and dimmable lighting transform the Palm Courtyard into a dance floor open to the stars. The Back Alley Lounge provides an outdoor escape with sweeping DTLA skyline views, bistro lights, and a customizable marquee.
