A beautiful location and adorable building! A DIY type of venue that was perfect for our intimate ceremony and reception.

I have always wanted to get married at the Wilbur Boathouse based on the outside view alone. When I booked the boathouse I was not surprised the inside was just as nice and unique. The details of exposed rafters and organic feel set the mood of my wedding perfectly. Anyone seeking a simple and sophisticated setting look no further than The Wilbur Boathouse!

We rented it for the friday before our wedding and the day of, they do offer a cheaper price for the two days.
Looked amazing in photos and the natural light is gorgeous.

Minus: You can only rent it until 11pm (that means packed up at 11pm) , also we had a drunk neighbor come over to yell at my wedding party at 6 o'clock in the evening (when the music was very quiet).

I do recommend getting a tent over the deck, makes it that much better!

I can't say enough amazing things about the Wilbur Boathouse and Rhonda. She was so helpful and really wants you to have the wedding of your dreams. The best thing about the Boathouse is it's essentially a blank canvas. The bones are gorgeous, the Boathouse has wood beaming, wood floors, huge windows overlooking Wilbur Bay and a massive deck. I knew as soon as we visited it for the first time this would be our wedding location. We had both our ceremony (on the open lot to the right of the Boathouse) and reception there. We covered the deck with a tent from Above All Tents like the others. We had exactly 100 guests, our seating inside and out and still had a large enough dance floor where a two person band played. We rented white benches from our wedding planner for the wedding ceremony and had some of the men carry them over to the deck for additional seating. Another amazing benefit to the Boathouse is they give you the freedom to bring in your own vendors. We were able to provide our guests with an amazing BBQ feast and live music. When the sun begins to set it's all just so breathtakingly beautiful. I can't recommend Rhonda and the Boathouse enough. It was the best day of our lives.

We haven't gotten our pictures from the photographer, but the family shots look amazing. The boathouse looked beautiful, and the backdrop was all you could ask for. Looking out onto the Halifax River as the sun was setting was breathtaking. We tented the deck through Above All Tent Rental who work with the Boathouse often, and it really completed the perfect look we wanted. As soon as some pictures come from the photographer we'll post them. Also, Rhonda is a really sweet lady and was very accommodating to us. We loved the Boathouse.

The Wilbur Boathouse was the perfect venue for our 40-guest wedding. It was just the right size for our guests to feel connected, but not crowded. The neighborhood it's located in is quiet and easy to find. The inlet is pretty and a nice, simple background for photos. Tables and chairs are provided with rental. Rhonda, the rental contact, is wonderful, flexible and professional. Three women at my wedding said they want to have their ceremony at the boathouse because, "It's just so perfect!" (lol) I highly recommend it. Oh, and you can stop by and look around the deck area and also look in the windows (there are lots) of the building without an appointment---so at least give it a go and decide for yourself.

From the moment I saw the boathouse I knew THIS is where we were going to get married. It was the ninth place I had viewed and it was the one! Such an amazing open space with the indoor enclosed space plus the equally spacious deck. The exposed beams, beautiful wood floor and windows covering 3 of the 4 walls make for a beautiful setting all its own. Add in the sun setting over the Intercoastal for an evening ceremony and/or reception and minimal decor is needed.
Rental of the space includes the indoor/outdoor entirety of the venue. Also included are tables and 80 chairs. This space is absolutely ideal for smaller weddings, about 100 or less guests. There is a kitchen but no heat sources, only a fridge, so catering must be brought in. Unlike some venues though you are not required to choose from specified vendors which is a great money saver. The manager is wonderful to work with and quick to communicate!

This is a great venue for a wedding, we were married at sunset on the lawn adjacent to the boathouse. It was high tide so there was not really a beach during our wedding. The boathouse has alot of charm. Small but comfortable for 40-50ppl with stations and dancing. Would recommend using Above All Tents and tenting the deck. Worth the money and makes it more intimate so you dont feel like you are on the street. Beware of old neighbors who make their way to the party to complain at 7pm at night! Would also recommend stringing market lighting on the deck and in the room to avoid the existing lighting which does not add much ambiance! Rhonda is great to work with, very nice and responsive. For $1,000 you get your moneys worth with this venue.

Beautiful venue, but poorly maintained A/C ruined our reception

In late June of 2015, we were married on the beach adjacent to the Wilbur Boat House. We paid $1,491 to rent the boathouse from 8:00 am – 10:00 PM for the reception. The wedding was at 2:00 and, after taking pictures, we, the bride and groom, arrived to the boathouse at 4:00 to find that the AC was not working. The High temp for the day was 86 Degrees. Upon arriving, I was forced to, rather than enjoying my reception, leave messages with someone from the Boathouse and speak to them when they called me back to arrange repairs for the A/C. It took 1 hour for the repair man to arrive and 1 hour for the repair. By this time (6:00) ¾ of the guests had left because of the unbearable heat in the boathouse. The lack of proper maintenance of the boathouse’s AC ruined our wedding reception.
A few weeks later, having not received our damage deposit back, I emailed them and requested that a portion of our $1,491 be returned. I was told:
“I am very sorry to hear that many of your wedding guests had to leave early due to the AC situation. You should be receiving your $300 damage deposit back any day now. Our accountant is retired and has been traveling some, but I believe that he has been home this past week and working on boathouse paperwork. I did forward your email to the President of the Board for the Boathouse. We have a Board meeting coming up next Monday evening, 07/13. I am sure that the Board will discuss your situation then, and I will let you know what they decide on.”
After more than a month of no contact, we were told that they did not plan to reimburse us any of our money, and they believe that a 2 hour window with no A/C in the middle of the reception was acceptable.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
