The Tailorbird Mercantile is an alterations, custom design, and heirloom redesign studio in Patchogue, New York, where expert fit meets a designer’s eye. I offer professional alterations for wedding gowns, formalwear, and special occasion attire, but my work goes far beyond traditional alterations. With a background in design, I look at each garment not only in terms of how it should fit, but also what it could become.

Whether you want to add sleeves to a strapless gown, create a dramatic cape or detachable detail, modify a neckline, add coverage, incorporate beading, lace, appliques, or embellishments, or personalize a gown so it feels more like you, I can help bring your vision to life. I approach these projects with both an understanding of garment construction and a designer’s eye for proportion, detail, and the overall look.

Sometimes you love the gown, but wish one part of it were different. Bring me your gown, your inspiration photos, or even the idea you are not quite sure is possible. I will explore what can be done and how to make the finished design feel intentional and beautifully integrated with the original gown.

One of my most meaningful specialties is heirloom wedding gown redesign. I transform mothers’, grandmothers’, and other treasured family wedding gowns into one-of-a-kind pieces that can be worn and loved by a new generation. An heirloom gown can become a bridal shower dress, rehearsal dinner look, wedding after-party dress, or another special piece for the wedding weekend.

I can also transform treasured wedding gowns and heirloom fabrics into christening and baptism gowns, creating a beautiful connection between generations and giving meaningful materials a new place in your family’s story. These pieces can be designed with the intention of becoming heirlooms themselves, made to be cherished, preserved, and passed down again.

My goal with every heirloom transformation is to honor the history and sentiment of the original garment while thoughtfully reimagining it for the person, occasion, and generation it belongs to now.
