Ellen and her team are absolutely incredible. Ellen is fun, calm, and put us all at ease immediately. I am in awe of the photos that she took for our October 8 wedding. This was hands down the best choice we made for our wedding. Ellen captured moments that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Her style is stunning. She finds the potential in every moment. We are so delighted by all of the surprises in the pictures - candid photos, planned photos, all of it! I love that she uses a variety of cameras. We adore the shots she took on film. Hiring Ellen as our wedding photographer was not only one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day, it ranks wayyy up there in our all-time best decisions as well. Ellen is a incredible artist, a thoughtful and generous person, and a consummate professional. We had quite a large group of friends and family who don't particularly love having their photos taken, and she made everyone feel at ease while working so efficiently that even the time we set aside for various family portraits flew by. We are so grateful to Ellen for the beautiful photographs, and cannot recommend her more highly!

My wife and I could not be happier with The Light and Color's work. Ellen was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. She was easy to communicate with and immediately put us at ease upon our first phone conversation. Before the wedding, she encouraged us to think about a shot list of photos - who and where - so that we were prepared on the day.

We had to plan our wedding from afar, as we live in Los Angeles but got married in upstate New York. We were looking for a photographer who would not only capture the feelings and emotions of the wedding, but who also understood how to use the natural surroundings to accentuate the beauty of the event. When it comes to outdoorsy, naturally-set weddings, we found many other photographers whose photos felt either too washed-out or overly-saturated; they were obviously heavily edited. But having grown up in the area, Ellen was very familiar with the, ahem, light and color of the region, and it really showed through in her work.

On the day, she was thoughtful and kind, with a great sense of humor that runs on the dry side -- perfect for us. Though we had planned to pass on a second photographer, Ellen ended up bringing an assistant, Haley, but did not charge us for it. Haley was awesome as well, with a very sweet and calming presence. They were both patient with us and all our knucklehead friends and family, and came in with a plan of attack based on previous conversations that we had had about shot lists. They made us feel comfortable and confident, with lots of great compliments. We also had a few photographer friends that may have been encroaching on Ellen's work, but she handled it in stride, never making a fuss. Never once did she get pushy, short, or demanding, and though she was happy to make suggestions, she always deferred to us in the end. Neither of them ever felt in the way or like a disturbance, blending in, but also getting along with any guests they interacted with.

Ellen has a great eye, and picked a different location for our first looks than we had originally intended, but the photos were beautiful and we were very happy with her decision.

We also made a point in our discussions beforehand that we wanted lots of photos of our guests. Yes, the moment is about us, but what often makes the best weddings so special are the people that attend, and we really wanted to be able to look back on the celebration with mementos of all our friends and family celebrating and having fun. Ellen did not disappoint on that front, as we have many beautiful and candid photos of our guests as well the insanely gorgeous ones of us.

We loved Ellen so much that it was legitimately saddening to say goodbye. We had a great time with her, and could not be more stoked on how the photos turned out. We could not recommend The Light + Color more and would hire them again in a heartbeat!

Ellen was incredible!! I think her photos speak for themselves, so I'll just add that she is an absolutely delightful person to be around. A friend gave me the advice when I was wedding planning to make sure you like your photographer, because they are with you A LOT on your wedding day. The last thing you want is someone adding to your stress or making you feel uncomfortable. Ellen was everything you could hope for-- she was cool, calm, and collected, incredibly efficient (while still getting great shots), and made us both feel at ease. I didn't want to have to spend the whole wedding taking photos, and Ellen was so helpful in moving things along and didn't push me to do more than I wanted. The photos we ended up with are so wonderful and capture the joy of the day so so well. On top of everything, Ellen traveled all the way to our wedding in Western Pennsylvania (apparently as a part of her goal to photograph a wedding in every state!). I can't recommend her enough!

Ellen is an incredible photographer with a unique talent for capturing the true essence of beautiful moments - not your run-of-the-mill photos. Every time I look at my wedding album I am reminded so vividly of the day and have yet to be able to pick a favorite shot. Not only was Ellen fun and supportive throughout the planning process, but she was always available to answer my questions and arrived early the day of just to put me at ease. Absolutely amazing and a perfect fit for our wedding! We had a quirky theme and her artistic style captured all of the details so well. Ellen was a joy to have around all day, she was laid back and fun and made sure we got all of the shots we wanted. Thank you!!

I need more stars! Ellen was quick to respond to our emails (and fun to communicate with!) and her pricing was so reasonable I still can't believe it included her travel to Vermont. I'm incredibly uncomfortable in front of the camera, and as such had been dreading intimate moments when I might be able to feel the camera's attention on me, like getting ready with my bridesmaids, putting on my dress, and photos with my husband after the ceremony. But by the time Ellen arrived on our wedding day I felt like she was already a great friend, and that sense of ease and comfort brought me - and my husband, our wedding party, our family, and our friends - great joy, which is absolutely visible in our photos. Ellen even helped tie the back of my dress, and helped my bridesmaids with the flowers - come on! I absolutely want to be her friend.
My husband and I had already decided on a hands off approach when it came to Ellen's wedding day photos, and my only request was to let me know if I needed to reapply lipstick. This was the perfect decision, as the photos are stunning, and better than anything we (or Pinterest!) could have come up with. She captured everything - not just the people, the landscape, and the architecture, but also the feeling and the energy of each moment - and looking back on the photos is like reliving our special day. What a treasure.
Our photos came back to us only a month after the wedding, and when we shared them with friends we were flooded for weeks by emails, texts, and Facebook notifications with messages such as, "I can't stop looking at your wedding photos!", "these are so magical", and, my favorite, "your wedding photos are (insert 6 banana emojis here)", from a friend who had, until then, stuck their nose up at all emoji use - ha!
