The George and Madcap Lounge is a luxurious venue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for weddings and nuptial events. The sophisticated space of The George, with its elegant ballroom, soaring windows and ceilings, 19th-century architectural elements and modern finery, will suit gatherings on both intimate and grand scales. We invite you to take a tour – you will find there is nothing ordinary about The George. Adornments include plush velvet drapes, crystal chandeliers, and a curated art collection featuring Wisconsin artists.

Need to get ready for your event? Plush and refined, with cushy seating and magnificent dressing mirrors, the Celebration Suite offers the perfect place. A powder room and well-stocked refrigerator (champagne, anyone?) round out the amenities in this very special suite, which accommodates 20 guests and offers secure storage for belongings. The Celebration Suite is complimentary with The George rental, but is also available on its own for small gatherings such as dress fittings, showers and more.
Drawing inspiration from a London club, the Madcap Lounge is a walk-down within the National Block building and just one floor removed from The George. Thoughtfully designed to offer guests a thoroughly unique and intimate experience, the space is made up of multiple vignettes. Imagine sipping bourbon in the library, indulging in healthy conversation over a game of billiards or sampling craft cocktails at the bar. Like The George, the lounge will feature works by vintage and contemporary Wisconsin artists.
The Madcap Lounge is available as a complement to The George or on its own and can accommodate parties of up to 200. Space within the lounge may be partitioned to create the desired atmosphere. Also perfect for corporate meetings and post-meeting dinner/cocktail parties, rehearsal dinners and other special celebrations.

The George was a great solution for us! The ability to have the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception under one roof simplified logistics for us and our guests.
More importantly than the convenience, the venue is SPECTACULAR - what a gem! The George decor is classy, elegant and a bit (but not too much) eclectic. The George is impeccably decorated with works from local artists and restored to at least as nice as any former glory it had. The George space easily and comfortably held our ceremony, dinner and reception (~120 people), and the beautiful west-facing picture window lets in abundant light making the ceremony very photogenic.
Our cocktail hour was held in the Madcap Lounge and absolutely WOWED our guests. The multiple rooms, each immaculately and comfortably furnished, were very impressive and each room is cooler than the last. It fostered our guests circulating as they wanted to explore the space. There's some Milwaukee history as well which just adds to the unique and authentic feel of the space.
There's a VERY nice celebration / preparation suite that the bride and her Mom and "girls" got to do hair / makeup and pregame - all catered to ensure they had enough energy for the long day.
The "room flip" (changing from ceremony to dinner / reception) was very prompt and frankly jaw dropping. The reception space was every bit as beautiful as the earlier ceremony space, and was easily ready in time to call the guests up to dinner from the Madcap Lounge.
Crystal (Manager of The George/Madcap Lounge) has an absolute wealth of information about the building, it's history and ways to best utilize all the resources the venue has to offer. We found her approach as quite "can do" and accommodating as we had some special needs guests.

Not a Thing I Would Change!
My wife is vegan, and we had several guests with other dietary restrictions. The venue didn’t just accommodate these needs – they ensured everyone had thoughtful, high-quality options. My wife felt truly included in the meal, and the vegan and other special menu items were delicious. Even now, guests are still raving about the cheesy grits we had at dinner!
Working with their team was a dream. The staff coordinated seamlessly with our wedding planner, so my partner and I had absolutely no stress on the day of the wedding. The space itself is breathtaking, from the grand event areas to the bathrooms, where even the smallest details in interior decoration showed such intentionality. We exchanged vows overlooking the stunning picture wall filled with local Milwaukee art, which added such a special touch and a real connection to the community.
One of the most important things for us was having an inclusive environment, and The George and Madcap Lounge were incredibly respectful and affirming of our queer wedding. We felt safe, respected, and supported throughout every part of the process. We can’t recommend The George and Madcap Lounge enough – it’s truly a gem for anyone looking for a beautiful, welcoming, and inclusive venue for any event!
Charm. Flexibility. History.
After touring numerous locations, we fortunately stumbled upon The George and Madcap Lounge, quickly putting our date on hold almost immediately after entering the charming allure of the building. Not only were the interior aesthetics a perfect embodiment of the "old-world/swanky" vision we had, it offered unique amenities and a constant flexibility from both the staff & layout.
To this day, our guests rave about the adaptability & effortless flow The George provided. Throughout planning, we were pleased with how many of the special requests we had were accommodated such as bringing in outside chair rentals, McDonalds as our late night snack, etc. The George also includes a "room flip" during cocktail hour which was completed efficiently, along with bringing my new husband and I upstairs for a private "room reveal" prior to the guests sitting for dinner.
The overall service and positivity the staff gave us throughout the day was also incredibly appreciated. We had a champagne tower as guests were walking into the ceremony, however a few of our family members ended up coming a bit earlier than asked on their invitation. Even though the tower was not set up yet, the staff immediately greeted our guests with champagne and welcomed them with an unmatched hospitality amidst the ongoing preparations.
All in all, The George's unique charm, staff, and history has become a core memory of our wedding story that we will continue to tell throughout our marriage.

Beautiful Venue, Outstanding Service
We had such a wonderful time and could not have picked a better venue. Michelle (the event coordinator) was incredibly responsive and took all of our minor changes easily in stride. Everyone who worked the event was kind and diligent. Beyond service, the venue itself is beautiful and we received many compliments from guests. The bridal suite was wonderful to get ready in. Could not have imagined a better place to get married!
