About

"The Friends of The Bishops' House" is a non-profit organization dedicated to the historic preservation of this grand old building. This beautiful building was once home to a succession of the Episcopal Bishops of Idaho. Each of the men who served as the head of Episcopal Diocese of Idaho lived in this home with their families while serving in the capacity as the Episcopal Bishop of Idaho. The original house was built in the late 1880's and was remodeled to its current stately, towered Queen Anne style Victorian home in 1899.

This was hands down the most gorgeous place in Boise to get married. We had complete privacy (and the house to ourselves) from noon to midnight. The house and grounds looked perfect when we arrived and the manager was extremely helpful in assisting before and after for other vendors to pick things up. If your looking for somewhere elegant and classy to be married this is definitely your place!

The Bishop's House was an ideal venue for our summer wedding. My husband and I chose this venue because of the incredible value, the setting, and the flexibility. We love the historical buildings that are nestled in Northeast Boise, at the base of the foothills. There was plenty of room indoors and outdoors for our 100 guests, the grounds were lush and romantic, and we were welcome to use our own caterer and bartender. We several opportunities, leading up to our wedding, to visit the site with the venue manager, Elizabeth. She was full of helpful suggestions to assist our planning, and she was very flexible about the requests we had. There are a few rules that are in place to protect the building's integrity, but they are easy to adhere to. I would recommend this venue to anyone interested in an elegant wedding on a budget. You and your guests will not only feel comfortable here, you will have beautiful wedding photos afterward!

One of the most beautiful places in Boise to get married. Elizabeth was a dream to work with and made it easy to plan out our special day to our liking.

The venue was everything I dreamed of! The historic house, the grounds, and overall feel of the house was perfect. The price for this venue was very reasonable. Elizabeth was great to work with and she went through everything in detail. We really appreciated her attention to detail, her suggestions, and her knowledge of the house. We used our own caterer and bartender. The staff put up the tables and chairs and had everything set up when we got there at 12. This is a great venue for a small wedding or event.

This venue for my wedding (May 30th) was beautiful! Contact wasn't always the easiest and we ended up not being able to use the venue for our rehearsal the night before the wedding because a while after we booked for the day of the 30th, someone booked a wedding for the day of the 29th and, asa result, we were unable to hold our rehearsal at the venue. However, our wedding turned out absolutely wonderful. It was gorgeous, the pictures turned out great, and everyone had a wonderful time!

Although the Bishops house was a beautiful venue and we would not change choosing that venue,
I strongly feel that the contract could have been more clear as to what costs you were going to be paying and for what
with a clear and specific total due. The care taker went out of state for a month before our ceremony and didn't return
until three days prior. Paper work that she stated was sent to us was never received and we were given a balance due
of hundreds dollars more than was expected because of the lack of communication.

The venue is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S. We had a garden wedding planned in the middle of August and it rained, so the big wrap-around porch came in handy. We rented it the day of and the day before the wedding, and it cost less for BOTH days than other venues we looked at for ONE night (Botanical Garden, BAM, the Depot). The rental cost also included chairs. Tables were extra to rent, but if you rent from them, they'll set everything up (you still have to do clean-up and break-down). So venue and value for the money, it was excellent.

On with the bad: The contact person is IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. When we first got engaged in December, I called WEEKLY until she returned my calls in MARCH. You can't get a more hyper poulation than brides, and I think many people just plain give up. When we wanted to add the day before the wedding, I made those arrangements in Spetember, and didn't get a contract until January. To be fair, there was some reshuffling of staff during that time, but someone should have picked up the ball. The contact there now has a cell phone, so maybe she'll be more attentive. When it came time for our walk-through and the weeks leading up to our wedding, she did return calls in a timely fashion. My advice is to start early. Also, they do maintenence on Wednesdays, so try calling/dropping by then. If you have your heart set on the Bishop's House, be persistent, and expect delays.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
