About

Exciting and innovative, The Alexandria Kleztet has been combining traditional Eastern European/Jewish music with diverse influences for more than a decade. The band is based in the Washington/Baltimore area and has performed throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including annual appearances at the Kennedy Center and regular concerts at the Peabody Institute. They began touring internationally in 2007 with an appearance at the Semanas Musicales festival in Chile.

Led by woodwind player Seth Kibel, the band includes violinist Helen Hausmann, bassist Scott Harlan and percussionist Tim Jarvis.

The Alexandria Kleztet recently released it fourth album, Peace, Love and Coffee. In addition to six original compositions, the recording features fresh arrangements of traditional melodies and creative re-workings of songs by Kurt Weill and John Williams.

"The Alexandria Kleztet may not be international stars yet, but under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Kibel they will definitely get there." -- Sing Out (Summer 2006)

For the Tish and the Horah at our wedding we hired ALEXANDRIA KLEZTET who had great energy and got everyone on the dance floor, even those who weren’t familiar with the songs. We recommend Seth and his team to any Jewish family that wants to provide a meaningful and authentic experience at a wedding or bar mitzvah.

Seth and his team were the perfect choice for our wedding! The music was very beautiful and authentic- they played our ceremony gorgeously and the hora during the reception went on and on because people couldnt (wouldn't?) stop dancing! It was fun and personal and exactly what we were looking for.

We looked at a ton of bands and there are definitely some klezmer folks out there that are just so so, The Alexandria Kleztet blows them out of the water. Seth is super easy to work with, flexible, had great suggestions and was super responsive and just overall great. Very very talented and excellent. Terrific experience.

We hired a klezmer band to play for our ceremony and for a little mini-reception we had afterwards at the synagogue. (We hired a DJ for our evening reception.) The Alexandria Kleztet was great. They're a really high energy, professional klezmer band -- and they have all the musicianship and whimsical creativity that is needed for great klezmer music.

I'd been to some Jewish weddings that had really terrible music, just some guy with a synthesizer singing prayers. I knew that if we were going to have a Jewish band at all, it had to have genuine ethnic flair and make the event memorable. The Kleztet totally delivered -- the ceremony music was great, and they were fantastic during the extended hora medley. We had one phase where different people came forward to do funny dances for us (a Jewish tradition) -- the band matched the character of each dance so well and really enhanced it. Seth Kibel, the bandleader, is a great guy and really easy to work with. I have only praise for the whole experience.
