Excellent facility! Beautiful location! They were very accommodating. A little pricey but very professional.Sent on 11/22/2015

We looked at a bunch of ceremony/reception sites and just fell in love with the Boathouse when we visited. It's a great building with a large covered deck and large dining area. It is located right on the river and it is a beautiful view. We enjoyed working with the staff on the day of the wedding and found them extremely helpful. Their event coordinator Jen was absolutely great and truly made our day wonderful. The only drawbacks are that it was sometimes difficult to get a hold of the staff to plan for the day and to make plans since they are a nonprofit organization that does many events in Hartford. We would have appreciated more consistent communication. Also, they require that you use one of their five vendors as a caterer, which worked out but limited us in finding a caterer. Also, the boathouse is located in a park so despite the boathouse being private property, they do not have any control over what or who is in the park. During our ceremony there was a very loud group of step dancers that was unfortunately heard during our ceremony. One another thing we did not like was that they make you buy all the drinks through their bar so we had to pay $3 per soda for our guests on top of paying the building rental fee which was quite costly. When all the other fees are considered, this place is fairly expensive however we felt it was worth it since it was so pretty. Many of our guests commented on how beautiful our wedding looked outside and inside of the boathouse.Sent on 12/18/2008

We picked the Riverfront Boathouse because the location is amazing. After visiting we absolutely feel in love with it. We have gotten so many compliments on the location from our guests, many of whom had never heard of it before. We loved how unique and not cookie cutter it was. We know so many people getting married, many of whom have had weddings at the same few venues, it was nice to have something different.Sent on 06/02/2015
Now for the downsides... The boathouse is a bare bones venue, they only provide you with the location, tables and chairs. You need to rent everything else- the linens, china, silverware, chairs for the ceremony, etc. They also don't have a kitchen so your caterer will need to bring their own equipment or rent equipment. And they require you to use a caterer from their short list of approved caterers. After a few caterers from the list didn't respond to any of our many inquiries, and another refused to give us a quote, we were left with only two options. One of those was extremely expensive almost double our budget. The venue staff person was helpful. But they aren't very flexible or accommodating. Most venues we looked at would allow you to drop off supplies earlier the week of the wedding; the boathouse would not. We were only allowed to drop stuff off during the 2 hour set up time and everything had to be taken home when we left. To make it even more difficult come the day of our wedding the staff person who was supposed to let us in, was late. All of our vendors were waiting to get in so they could set up, but couldn't. When she finally arrived she wasn't helpful at all, and sat in the office most of the night. I never met her, although she did talk to the groom when she arrived.
Ultimately we are happy we choose the boathouse; but it was certainly a more expensive option than many of the more typical venues in CT and it didn't come with any of the support that those venues offer.
