Best Day of my Life

Our Country House could not have been more perfect for our wedding. Our planning process began back in May of 2019. We toured this venue shortly after getting engaged. We fell in love immediately! We ended up having to change our date a couple of times due to the craziness of my now husbands schedule. And the owners were so flexible and helpful throughout the entire process! The venue is beautiful. I’ve never felt so much love and happiness in one place. I will forever be grateful for how awesome this venue handled everything from start to finish!

Blissful Nuptials

This beautiful farm was absolutely everything we wanted and needed for our wedding ceremony and reception. Besides the natural beauty of the site, Ms. Teresa Cayton is a wonderful person to work with. She is so helpful and intuitive. Everyone loved was in awe of the location and many of our guests fell in love with the serenity of the pond and the open air of the farm and the southern charm of the barn. We would truly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a unique venue that offers southern charm for a small private affair. It was such a beautiful way to begin our new life together.

Southern hospitality and kindness at its finest!

Teresa and Marty are the best! Very responsive, hospitable, and incredibly accommodating. Their property is beautiful with a cute, eclectic barn, a nice pond ceremony option, and the perfect get ready area. Highly recommend Teresa and Marty's venue for weddings or other parties! They are truly amazing.

Not a Great Experience

I implore any couple interested in this venue to thoroughly read through this review. Short version: Unless you want a complete stranger(s) invasively join your wedding day, then I would not choose Our Country House; if you prefer that invasive stranger to be kind, certainly do not let the husband, Marty, anywhere near your big day. He was not only invasive but incredibly rude to the bride, groom, wedding party, and guests. Every single vendor and nearly every guest I had expressed discomfort by him and I am sincerely disheartened by that. It has left a serious damper on our magical day. Choose a professional venue if you want professionalism; this is someone’s home and they treat it as so.

Long version: Upon our first and second times visiting Our Country House, we were so excited and believed the location/house was perfect for our big day. Teresa, the main host, was very endearing and helpful which made us feel comfortable. She offered usage of any of her decor and many other incentives that are not included in your standard venue. Teresa typically is the on-site host for weddings and I am sure she does a fantastic job but we did not have that pleasure. Instead, her husband (Marty) and two other women were her replacements for our wedding. I wasn’t at all concerned about this as I trusted Teresa would leave us in good hands until I finally met Marty. About 2 weeks out from my wedding day, I had a meeting with my two wedding coordinators and Teresa to map out the venue. Everything went well up until I expressed my desire to get married underneath the beautiful oak tree in the front yard as opposed to the pond in the back. When we originally toured the venue, the front yard tree is what sold me and I was told that is one of their options for the ceremony. Fast forward two weeks from my wedding, I am being uncomfortably pressured towards not having my ceremony in the front yard. Marty got intense and angry about the placement of pews and the wedding party although it has been done before. It seems he lashed out as us because he did not want to have to move the ceremony pews across the yard. I ended up tearing up at his intensity and crushed thinking I might have to deal with him on my wedding weekend. He also cut off my coordinator and mouthed off to her. It was awkward and Teresa had nothing to say about it.

On Friday before the rehearsal dinner, the groom and his brother were hanging lanterns from the trees (simple and light, absolutely no damage to any property or tree) and he starts yelling at them through a camera in which he was watching them through.

The first thing I heard once I arrived to the venue on my wedding morning as a bride was how a few beer cans were left on the front porch the night before. Firstly, that should never be the responsibility of the bride. Especially one who has two wedding coordinators, a full bridal party, parents, and many more people who could handle that before her. Secondly, as listed in our contract which I will include in this review, help with cleanup is provided by the venue. Instead, I got berated on my wedding morning about, yes, a few beer cans. After Marty finished his spiel about the beer cans, he gave oddly strict instructions for the house I was not aware of beforehand. He only wanted us to use certain doors to go in and out of the house we paid thousands of dollars to enjoy for the day. Well, he spent all hours of my wedding morning yelling at my guests and vendors about which doors they could use. I had so many people come to me and complain about Marty on my wedding morning that I had to call one of the women Teresa left to host and ask that she please control the situation. Considering how the rest of the day went, I believe she completely ignored me. He forcibly hung out in the living room and porch with my wedding party and guests the entire day leading up to my ceremony. As I am walking towards the aisle, I am greeted my Marty’s face standing straight out in front of me the whole way. This complete stranger, one who has made me cry, is what I see as I am about to enter into holy matrimony.

It ended up being a rainy day and we lucked out by not getting hit worse. Instead of being happy about it, we hear Marty thinks “the sun will not be coming out again” (it did) and “they sure won’t be getting a sunset” (we got an amazing one). Just pure negativity all day long. He also told my DJ they cannot play certain music with foul language (not in the contract).

The two women that were supposed to be hosting in Teresa’s place (Bett and Dee) basically just sat on the porch with Marty all night long instead of helping with anything at all. One of the things I am most upset about is the lights in the reception barn. One of the most magical things about the reception barn is the lights at night. Well, Bett and Dee did not turn off the overhead lights so we danced in full light all night long. The candles behind our sweetheart table, the memorial table, etc. were not turned on. I was promised that these types of services were included in with the venue as my coordinator is facilitating flow of events.

So here I am, only days after my wedding day, writing this review and thinking of all the ways it could have been so much more beautiful. I truly would rather be spending my time differently right now, however I would not want this experience for any other bride and groom. I have tried to ignore my feelings and move forward yet every guest I have spoken with since has brought up how uncomfortable they were being watched like a hawk. All of my vendors were amazing and no amount of negativity could have brought us down but Marty sure did try.
