We worked with Emma at Of Fate and Chaos for our engagement and wedding photos, and could not have been happier! First of all, Emma is so lovely - she is super warm and personable, and helped tremendously to ease our nerves/awkwardness at being in front of the camera. We originally did not plan on an engagement shoot, but opted to do so after she explained the benefits of having a chance to meet and work together before the actual wedding. As a couple, neither of us had any meaningful experience with professional photos before, but Emma was able to gently direct and guide us in order to get spectacular pictures that we will cherish forever. She has a unique style and vision for what will make a great photo, and the experience to know what will translate best to the camera. We also wanted to include our dog in both the engagement and wedding photos, which Emma fully embraced - she was so patient, even when our dog didn’t want to cooperate and look at the camera!

Also very important - we were originally set to marry in April 2020, but had to reschedule due to COVID. Emma was SO communicative and accommodating - she helped make a nightmare scenario so much easier on us - we are truly lucky to have worked with her and 100% recommend!

Emma is gifted, simple as that. Her photos are whimsical and effortless. You feel comfortable and not on display when she’s photographing you. She’s sweet, kind and fades into the background for most shots - never even letting you know she’s there. The amount of gratitude I have for Emma, especially for being so flexible during the pandemic, is sky high. She’s is just the best!

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a magic bean buyer, Emma is your photographer. I followed Emma on Instagram long before I was engaged because she is a tremendously talented photographer.

Emma is seriously the most wonderful person. From the very beginning, she is like Glinda and floats in on a bubble of positive energy and love. Our engagement shoot at the Botanical Garden was so comfortable! She goes above and beyond to scout out the light and the best spots beforehand, so her focus is on you, and she knows the plan.

I caught her the day before the wedding on our street with her sweet baby boy scouting out the light. She is SO DEDICATED.

We had a particularly long day so she brought a second photographer, Valerie, who was equally wonderful. Emma seriously went above and beyond. Against direct orders from our wedding planner (who thought we might fall asleep never to return), Emma took us back to our house and took some of the most breathtaking photographs. Since we are both in the Navy, we certainly will move at some point and to be able to have these photos is spectacular.

Magic is the only tenable explanation for her uncanny ability to so perfectly capture the emotions of the day. We will treasure these photos for years to come.

I can only hope that Emma remains in the Norfolk area so that we can continue to use her for our family photographer. We are so lucky to have found her.

My husband and I are so glad we found Emma. We’d like to think we’re more bohemian and wished for someone who would capture our union in a uniquely intimate way. Queue… Emma.
There were many photographers to choose from. I conducted my research by scouring the internet, Instagram and wedding blogs. (I’m surprised Emma’s stuff hasn’t been picked up by Junebugweddings.) I looked at everyone’s photos and read and re-read countless reviews. Of Fate and Chaos intrigued me and was most similar to an ideal I had in mind, a style that was more ethereal and national geographic worthy.

Emma went above and beyond as a photographer. I can honestly say she helped make our dream a reality. I had wanted a very private, intimate ceremony and it wouldn’t have been possible without Emma. She literally married us. We were eloping in the mountains and Emma added lovely thoughtful touches, creating the most amazing bouquet and boutonniere for us, knowing my then-fiance and I had busy work and travel schedules and were eloping almost by the seat of our pants. Since we eloped at the top of a mountain, Emma even helped us arrange transportation up to the top (I had chosen a mermaid dress - not the wisest for a mountain-top elopement). She remains a friend to this day (even though I haven’t even been married a year yet).

On top of Emma being such a consummate professional who goes above and beyond for her clients, her work speaks for itself. I am just so thrilled with our photos. The photographs are beyond what I could have hoped for. Everyone who’s seen our photos comments on how amazing our photos look. The location was beautiful, but the composition and the lighting and all the other photo stuff for which I don’t have the appropriate vocabulary were on point.

Emma is the most amazing photographer. Not only is her craft exceptional, her heart is too. Though her work is beautiful her photography isn't JUST "pretty." It's emotional and authentic. She connects with you and draws out the best in you. She doesn't just capture your image, she makes your day better by her calm and wonderful presence. Emma is wonderful to work with.
