Right at Home

My fiance and I went out to New Harmony to look at the conference center for a reception place. When we went in, the conference center was decorated for another wedding, and it was so beautiful. We immediately knew that we needed to have our reception here, we felt right at home.

We had a small ceremony by the lake behind New Harmony Inn and stayed in one of their rooms for our honeymoon. Melissa was especially helpful, and it was a beautiful location. The only complaint I have, it was $3 per chair which seemed a little pricey and in order to have a back up plan for rain, which was just a tent covered area off to the side we would have had to pay the same price AGAIN just to reserve the area as back up. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I definitely recommend the area for smaller weddings. It was beautiful.

This was the perfect location for the vision we had in mind for our wedding day. The town of New Haromony is so beautiful and peaceful and the New Harmony Conference Center embodies that. I love the layout of the venue because it gives guests freedom to walk around and not be confined to one single room for the whole night. The accessiblity was great and nobody had trouble with parking. I also loved the fact that we could give our guests an option to stay in one of their beautiful hotels rooms for the night after the reception. This allowed many people to stay longer than they normally would have and we had more time to spend with our family and friends.

I also highly recommend the Orchard House. We rented this for the bridal party to get ready in the day of and then spend the night in. It provided so many great backgrounds for pictures during the day and it's just so beautifully maintained.

I purchased the basic package. Great value.

My husband and I felt that we received poor service from the "wedding planner" Melissa. We were given, and so we signed, a contract that stated we would be in the Conference Center and our menu items would be selected from the banquet menu. We later found out the we would not have the Conference Center but rather the Tillich Room at the Red Geranium Restaurant and had to choose from the restaurant's evening menu. This was not a problem as we preferred the Tillich Room and menu options but we felt like we weren't being properly advised by our planner. She claimed to have lost emails from me when we arrived for a scheduled tasting (we had to fly from California) but I had emails pulled up on my phone, ready to show her she was lying, but felt it would be too awkward and uncomfortable to do that. She was also unreachable during her maternity leave and I didn't even know she had taken her leave except another vendor explained it to me in an email. Her replacement, who I believe was named Whitney but I wouldn't know because I was never ONCE informed of any of this by the company, made no effort to contact or assist me during Melissa's leave.
I received more help and information from the woman at Events of Harmony, who used to be the wedding planner at the New Harmony Inn. I spoke with her for only half an hour, a few days before my wedding, and had learned more in that time than I had from speaking with Melissa for fifteen months of planning.
Service at the Red Geranium was great. David was our server and he was amazing. My guests felt like he did a fantastic job looking after us and he was fun and had a charming personality and positive attitude.
I asked for a round cake, got square anyway. The cake itself was good but the frosting was garbage. It was grainy and poorly made. EDIT: Melissa returned from maternity leave and was once again available for planning about one month before the wedding. She was also the DOC.

The Worst Service

We chose New Harmony Inn and Conference Center for our wedding 08/20/22. Melissa, Director of Sales/Wedding Coordinator, is one of the worst people I have ever met in my life. As soon as we signed our contract the communication became terrible. I would text, call, and email over several days and even weeks and most of time never even got a response. Even though we did a taste test, our food was incorrect. When we asked for a 10% refund she said that they decided a $100 refund, which is 2.7%, was fair since the food was edible. It took nearly two weeks to get this refunded because they kept charging my account more. The food was extremely extremely disappointing. We consistently had to call multiple different people to gain access to areas of the venue that was supposed to be open for us. The house we got ready and stayed in was dirty, covered with feathers and dirt. My friend is supposed to get married here in a year and a half and now she is looking at other venues. Even with these issues I had to fight to get any response, I emailed and called and after I asked to speak with the General Manager I finally received an email back. Absolute worst service I have ever received.

Ruined my wedding.

My wedding was ruined. Due to poor communication and honestly a low level of professionalism. As soon as I left the planners office the communication went silent for months. As a procrastinator myself I get it but come on this is your job. I had said from the beginning I wanted long tables. I emailed and texted and called the planner as I wanted to get the lengths of the tables to set. I finally got a text back after a couple weeks of no returned call or email. Thinking this was a one off I was still okay. Then within weeks of my wedding I emailed, called, and texted again. This time a bit frantic and with no response I messaged the billing lady to have the planner message me. Finally I got an email back with the planner actually telling me she got my messages but didn’t respond?? I was mad. Fast forward to the wedding weekend and I had never gotten instructions on the house or the address or check in time. Once inside it was fine the WiFi didn’t work but I didn’t want to bother anyone. Not like I’d get a response anyway with their track record. I had gone to the shower and a dirty blue rag was in the tub. Then my friend went to wash her hands and a spider crawled out from the bathroom sink. We walked barefoot and big mistake because our feet ended up black. My dad opened a pop tart that was complimentary and it had mold on it and I grabbed a mini box of cereal that was stale. What was the most disgusting was when I sat in one of the recliners and leaned back I got a big whiff of someone’s fun night in it if you know what I mean. I feel like we got in there and no one even cleaned honestly. The morning of the wedding was no better we had to last minute pivot the reception due to weather and had it in the meeting hall. We walked in, it was HOT in that room almost 80 degrees! The high that day was 81! Me being non confrontational my mother immediately stepped in to get the staff to turn it down. During set up we were sweating so we asked again if they could turn it down. That’s when we found out the ac had been switched to heat already. My planner had come in now and said someone from Evansville had to come out and switch it over. It took us about 3 hours for set up and it stayed 80 in there. Not only this the bugs in the room were ridiculous there were spiders in webs in the corners of the rooms and we had to get house keeping in to clean it.A couple hours later getting ready for my ceremony my mom unknowingly walks barefoot in the house and once again ends up with disgusting black feet. My groom went to check on the reception area and it has not changed from 80 and he once again made staff aware this was unacceptable. During my ceremony there was another larger wedding at the lake and my planner had promised me (as I specifically asked when touring) that we wouldn’t be able to hear the other wedding. Sure enough we heard the other wedding while I walked down the aisle. During my vows their music played in all of our ears. Already so upset at this point with everything we made it to the reception early as we got rained out of photos only to see the reception is still 80 degrees at this point. Our guests were sweating we were sweating. My sister upset for me as well went to the planner and said that we were unhappy at the heat and the planner simply stated “what do you want me to do about it”. Not only that but all of the candles were lit. We did not light them the staff had. We quickly went around and blew the open air candles out as the planner had originally stated no fire unless in a contained environment like a hurricane glass. Of which I did purchase 32 of. For them to still light all the candles without glass on them shows poor communication. At this point I walked out of my reception crying so so upset with everything that has gone down and what an absolutely horrible experience thus far. The planner seeing me crying came to check and my husband told her how angry he was and how I was crying, she had nothing to say about it. The rain lightened up and we went back outside to take more photos. During this time our entire guest list got to see our cake table on fire due to the candles that had been lit outside the hurricane glass. Apparently when they were still hot enough to cause a fire. The decoration and the table cloth had to be replaced. HOW DID MY CAKE TABLE CATCH ON FIRE?? This was my last straw this is why I am writing this now alll of the things in this review, this whole venue, the communication, the way it was handled was absolutely horrendous. I never even got my complimentary champagne to our room. What a joke. I cannot believe I had to pay thousands of dollars for someone to ruin my wedding. I WANT MY MONEY BACK. I honestly think that the other wedding was where my planners head was at. Too preoccupied with the larger more expensive wedding to even care much about mine. I thank my family and friends for trying to make up for it. Because from other bad reviews I’ve seen I doubt the Inn will do anything.
