We skipped the wedding cake and got about 400 small pastries - and an individual 6in coconut cake for a dessert table. My husband and I purchased about 10 varieties 2 month before and chose our favorites. We placed out order with the head chef the week of the wedding.
The day of, my mother in law picked up the desserts since they don't deliver.

Neri's Bakery is mostly a wholesale bakery, but they have a small bake shop open to the public. We ordered our bake from them because we wanted a tres leches cake. If you've ever had one, you'll understand why.

Because it's such a large bakery we were able to get a very reasonable price for our cake. Also, because it's a wholesale bakery--you don't need to reserve your cake five months in advance or whatever. We showed up two weeks before the wedding.

The problems: We tried to make arrangements for the cake with one of the shop clerks. We came with a color swatch and photograph of the frosting design we wanted (so simple, nothing fancy). For whatever reason, they insisted we had to make the arrangements with the baker--who could not spare five minutes to work with us. We came back at the time and day the clerk advised, and still--no time.

Finally, my now-husband called the bakery to make sure the baker was there. The switchboard operator told us he wasn't, but maybe he could help? He wasn't happy with the story we gave him and personally helped us get in touch with the baker.

So really--a delicious cake that took a lot more effort than it should have. You just need to be persistent with them. Very.
