About

MacCallum House Inn & Restaurant is a historic wedding venue located in Mendocino, California. The house was built in 1882 by William Kelley as a wedding gift to his daughter and has since been established as a benchmark of the Mendocino community. In 2002, the current owner Noah Sheppard took over operations of the property. Noah and his wife Zoe, an established contractor and freelance designer respectively, have been at the helm of major remodeling within the venue. This property is a sublime location for couples to host an unforgettable event near the North Pacific coastline.

Facilities and Capacity

This illustrious building is situated upon lush acres of grass, featuring roses and gardens of fresh herbs. Its numerous reception sites offer options to wedding parties of many sizes. An outdoor reception can be held on the East Lawn for up to 200 guests. This gives guests the opportunity to breathe in the fresh ocean breeze as they celebrate the happy couple. The South Dining Room is an option for a more intimate reception. A party of up to 30 can dine in this rich wood paneled space that features advantageous views of the bay. Intimate gatherings of up to 16 attendees can enjoy the North Dining Room. Opting to hold their reception at MacCallum House Inn & Restaurant also gives couples and their guests full access to the house bar.

The culinary staff at this venue are proud to offer a full catering service for your wedding reception. You can expect to collaborate with the team on a personalized menu that is mindful of dietary restrictions and personal tastes. If you choose the East Lawn for your reception, a full tent structure will be constructed for you. This Victorian-style estate has a total of 19 available guest suites across the property. The Main House features eight of these rooms, each with luxury accouterments such as claw foot bathtubs and views of the ocean. Seven cottages are available to stay in. These cozy chalets surround the main house and can act as wonderful get-ready facilities for the wedding party. The largest suite on the property is The Barn Studio. This was the most amazing experience of my life! We actually won our wedding! And it was truly amazing! Julie Wood is a wonderful Wedding Coordinator. She responded to me quickly and gave me exactly what I wanted. The wedding was planned to be outside. It rained the day before and it was planned to be moved inside. The weather cleared by late morning/early afternoon and the staff quickly made the changes to get set up outside and get all of our guests to the wedding location. The food at the reception was simply wonderful. It all sounded awesome on paper, but I think it tasted even better. Everything is fresh and the produce is local and the wine selection made it very hard to choose from. We stayed two nights at the MacCallum House and are looking forward to going back! All of our guests felt the same way. We also rented one of their rental homes for our rehearsal dinner and the house was beautiful and the perfect size for our 50 guests! I could not have imagined a more perfect weekend!!!

I can't think of a more romantic place for a wedding than The MacCallum House. The food was, and always is outstanding. The service at MacCallum house was professional and prompt at our wedding, and every visit we make. Every effort was made to make our guests comfortable and our wedding beautiful. I highly recommend having your wedding here.

My husband and I got married here this past April and it was just amazing. From the first day we met Julie, the wedding coordinator, she made us feel at ease and totally taken care of. Not only is the food mouth wateringly good, the chef is such a great guy to put your menu together with and they put so much attention to local ingredients. The service and quality of the staff is outstanding and continued throughout the whole weekend. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and romantic, there is just so much charm at The Mac House. We had our ceremony at The Cypress Grove which was truly incredible, all the transportation was flawless and our guests were able to relax and enjoy the weekend. If you are thinking of getting married in Mendocino, The Mac House is the place to do it. 5 stars across the board!

Fantastic Experience

We chose to have our wedding at MacCallum House, and it was beyond perfect. The grounds are absolutely stunning—every corner feels like a dream setting—and the tent setup for our reception was both elegant and inviting. The staff truly went above and beyond. Saya was so helpful throughout the planning and process through the entire event, making sure everything ran smoothly, and Tatiana was a huge help with coordinating our room block and ensuring that gift bags were placed in each of our guests' rooms. The team even loaned us heaters and furniture for a pre-wedding gathering the night before, so our families could come together comfortably. But what really stood out was the food. My partner and I are serious foodies, and wedding food often falls short, but MacCallum House blew us away. The dinner service was flawless, and every dish was executed to perfection. Chef Alan and his team were incredibly accommodating, especially with the various dietary restrictions among our guests. One moment that really touched us was when they created a special dish for my neuro-divergent cousin, who is on a very restrictive diet. When his meal arrived, his face lit up—it was one of those beautiful moments that added so much to our day. The entire team ensured that every aspect of the wedding was seamless, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. If you're looking for a wedding venue that combines stunning scenery, incredible food, and outstanding service, MacCallum House is it.

We decided to get married at the MacCallum House Inn, because of their quality & experience. Julie was very helpful and took care of every detail on our wedding day. Everyone on the Mac House team was great to work with and gave you the confidence that everything would be taken care of perfectly. We couldn't have been happier with our experience.

What a magical place!! The town of Mendocino and the MacCallum House Inn & Restaurant are so amazing and beautiful. It truly made our wedding day so special and unforgettable. The staff are super helpful and are always willing to do whatever it takes to get things done right. Our wedding planner had lots of great ideas for local vendors, and was really helpful.

An overall great choice and value is right there! Your guests will feel very well taken care of. Bartender (Tony) is outstanding--if your budget will permit, you should go for the full bar!

Unprofessional communication

When we first started looking at venues, the MacCallum House looked to be the perfect combination of ambience and location. I've heard great things about their food and the venue itself was stunning (we had seen photos and walked by the spot when we were in Mendocino for our engagement). Unfortunately that's where the good bits of this venue ended. When we reached out to MacCallum House (via email and phone call) we didn't realize that we'd be ignored (6 times) over the course of a month. It simply became clear that if we were a larger wedding we'd get an immediate response from Summer (who was wonderful and managed larger weddings) but completely ignored by Saya (general manager, handled microweddings). I would've appreciated if they would just be upfront about not wanting microweddings instead of constantly having to be chased down and telling us "we'll cc Saya" or "I'll let Saya chime in" and then be ignored. For the record Saya never once responded to anything she was cc'd in or directly emailed on.

This venue was incredibly unprofessional and I can't imagine such rude treatment just because our wedding wasn't large enough.

I got married June of 2015. The wedding ceremony was beautiful. However everything leading up to our big day was a disaster. Sarah the wedding coordinator (use the term very loosley) was of no help at all. All she did was book our room and book that we were getting married, the only problem with that is she booked our wedding date for the 21 of June, even after we told her in emails and on phone we wanted the date of June 19 multiple times!!!
The day of our wedding we showed up to our location the Cypress Grove and there was another wedding party there doing their rehearsal. Sarah had told this couple that there was nothing booked for that day so they could go out whenever they would like. It was just a mess. This was supposed to be the happiest day of my life and it was not even close to that.
For the flowers and photographer I had to call them myself to make arraignments with them, when the whole time I kept being told Sarah handles everything. Not true. I had to do everything even tell them they had the wrong date for my wedding. So if I had not called either vendor I would not have had flowers or a photographer.
Needless to say if I were planning this wedding all over again I would never choose the MacCallum house, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone I know that is getting married.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
