Reviews of Gold Hill Inn

This is really a fantastic venue - they only do a few weddings a year, which is probably why they aren't reviewed more on websites like these. Bear in mind that they don't do weddings at all during their high season (mid-late June through August), but if you can sneak in during late spring or early fall, it's a beautiful spot. The Inn and the town are gorgeous; guests have to be willing to drive up a steep dirt road, but even though we had a rainy wedding day, nobody had trouble making it up in their sedans. The place has loads of atmosphere and history, and the management is very laid back but knows how to handle events. There's also a historic lodge next door that can be rented out for guests who want to stay the night. We had a fantastic time, and would definitely recommend the Gold Hill Inn!

The Gold Hill Inn was perfect for our wedding. We had two priorities- our guests said they wanted to experience 'the real West' and we wanted excellent food (no chicken Florentine please!) This place delivers on both counts.

Date-Our wedding was the last weekend in June (high season), on a Sunday afternoon, 11am to 4pm.

Venue- We rented the Blue Bird Inn (next door, same owners) for the night before so that we weren't scrambling up the road in the early AM. Both places are a bit rustic, the BB Inn offers four bathrooms for nine bedrooms- only the two upstairs bathrooms have showers, which are adapted claw foot tubs with shower curtains. This is definitely authentic, so if you're looking for an Aspen-type fake "western" resort retreat, you might want to go elsewhere. The owners were very accommodating to every request. They were very flexible on our numbers, we had far fewer than we thought and it was not a problem at all. However, they did charge a fee for heating up Kosher meals and were going to charge full price for the band to eat; on a good note, they were willing to go down to half price for both! Another wonderful thing about the venue is that there was no venue fee- you pay for what you eat and drink, plus taxes and tip, but that's it! We had our wedding outside in the side yard, and it was a perfect day! They do have a place indoors where you can have your ceremony if it rains, but it does take up space where you'd be eating if you have more than 120 people.

A few tips- We rented chairs, table cloths and napkins for the event from an outside company. We also put up balloons and signs to let folks know they were on the right path (the dirt road had some people a little nervous). Cake was also separate- we ordered from Whole Foods in Boulder (yes, seriously! We were a little dubious at first too, but go try it before you judge!)- their Chantilly cake was perfect for us, fresh fruit and no weird fondant (again, good flavor was a priority for us). We did check out Tee and Cakes in Boulder but decided not to go the cupcake route....could be a good alternative.

The food was absolutely divine! We ordered the smoked Salmon and the Brisket- both were amazing! We still have people raving to us about the food to this day! The veggies were cooked perfectly (not mushy!) and they even made accommodations for the vegetarians in the group. They were so sweet to us, they even sent home a box of food for me because I didn't really get to eat. Pete, the bartender, took care of us each and every time we went up there- he was fantastic. Brian and Chris- the brothers who own the place were very generous, flexible, and fair.

We have a very eclectic and diverse group of friends, we tried to make sure to accommodate everyone as best we could-- this place was up to the task! We would definitely have our wedding there again and hope to return for our anniversaries!

Lots of character and charm!
