As a classical musician getting married to a blues musician, the music at our wedding was very important. We spent long hours listening, debating, and downright arguing over who and what we wanted. We eventually stumbled across Dr. Jazz. And thank goodness we did! I called Russell and told him what we were looking for and he made it happen. We even had a little mixup because of the strings I wanted and he had to get with some musicians they have never worked with before on the day of and play music together, and they did it perfectly. Then- to put the icing on the cake- still second lined for us in the rain down 3rd street in Baton Rouge!! We managed to stay dry under most of the business signs and overhangs, but it was still unexpected since the weather had taken a turn. They then kept our cocktail hour classic and fun by playing jazz standards and songs that we had chosen, and then some! While I am so very disappointed I didn’t get to fully enjoy the cocktail hour listening to them, my guests filled me in as they were so terribly impressed! Even the musicians in the crowd (and there were a lot) were enamored with the crew! I would definitely recommend using Dr. Jazz & the New Orleans Sounds for any event!!!

We are getting married this November 2017 and are so excited to use the dr. Jazz band! A friend referred the band and when we reached out to see if they had our date they responded promptly and even sent us a detailed song list and cd just for emailing them! They are going to provide our ceremony, reception and second line music for a great rate that will keep us within our budget!

I booked Dr. Jazz and the New Orleans Sounds for my Second Line Parade at the recommendation of my wedding coordinator at Federal Ballroom. They were a pleasure to work with. Dr. Russell Steele, the band leader, was so sweet and even sent my husband and I a CD of their music as a wedding gift after I emailed him to ask about performing for our Second Line. They were a hit on our wedding day and our guests LOVED our Second Line. Dr. Steele even gave me advice on how to do my permits since I am from San Diego and this was my first Second Line. I can't say enough about how wonderful Dr. Jazz was for our wedding! From ceremony to reception to our unforgettable Second Line, it was perfection! Dr. Jazz and the New Orleans Sounds were fantastic. Russell (Dr. Jazz) is a very kind and sincere man while also being multi-talented (he's a practicing pediatrician as well as a fabulous musician)! We first contacted him via email and, after several correspondences and listening to a sample CD thoughtfully sent to us in the mail, we booked him from 2500 miles away. Russell was very timely and patient (despite my responses always lagging), he understood our vision, worked with our budget, and on the day of, he and his band just wanted to make us smile and happy! As a disorganized bride, I didn't provide much direction to Russell, and there wasn't a set timeline or cue for many things, but Dr. Jazz was able to independently help facilitate the ceremony and reception without a hitch. He made sure he had an approved song list, and didn't mind that we had him revise it two or three times. We also loved Dr. Jazz adding numerous special touches to the performance throughout the night. We wholeheartedly encourage anyone wanting a talented live band to book a gig with Dr. Jazz. Dr. Jazz was such a wonderful part of our wedding. They provided ceremony music, cocktail hour music, and second line music for our March 2014 wedding. From start to finish they were professional and talented. I was an out of town bride and wanted a New Orleans jazz experience for our wedding, which they absolutely provided tenfold. I walked down the aisle to their jazz version of "here comes the bride" which set the stage for the rest of the event. They were in lots of communication with us before the big day to establish a set list and coordinate the event. In the middle of the cocktail hour, they provided a great personalized song serenade for the bride and groom. The Second Line was a stand out for the guests and was soooo much fun. I can't say enough about this wonderful group of musicians and for Dr. Russell Steele who leads the group. I would highly recommend to anyone!!!

Dr. Jazz was my favorite of all our vendors! We had the band play during the ceremony and during the cocktail hour afterwards. Our guests RAVED about Dr. Jazz. They were great! They totally made the atmosphere I was hoping for.

Russell was also a joy to work with. He contacted me several weeks before the wedding and asked lots of questions. I never had any doubt that things would run smoothly with them. And Russell sent me a very sweet congratulatory email the morning after the wedding.

Dr. Jazz performed the music at our wedding ceremony and we couldn't have been more pleased. They played the songs we requested, and did such an amazing job. They really set the scene/tone we wanted for the ceremony and our guests were very impressed. Highly recommend!

Dr. Jazz (Russell) was a pleasure to work with from the moment we first contacted him through the day of our wedding. He was quick to respond to emails and always able to accommodate my changes and requests. He is extremely friendly and helpful. I think it is great that the band is formed of a group of gentleman that play weddings as a hobby. They truly have a passion for music and it shows.

On our wedding day they were a great! They got the guests up and dancing, played all the songs we had requested and lead an incredible second line parade. They even wrote a song for us!

To top off the day they lead our second line parade through the French Quarter, down Bourbon Street and marched right into Pat O'Briens courtyard. It was the perfect ending to an incredible day. After our wedding Russell sent me a note thanking for allowing them to be a part of our wedding. It was a great personal touch, one that I truly appreciate it. It was a blast having them as part of our wedding day and I would definitely recommend them to any bride.

Dr Jazz played at my ceremony, the second line and the reception. The music was awesome and my guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Dr Jazz, Dr. Steele, is a delight to work with and they have an extensive playlist. He will customize a playlist for anyone.
