Don Hoel's Cabins

Hands down one of the best wedding locations for a natural setting!! We had our intimate wedding at Don Hoel's and it was everything we dreamed of. The gazebo area was absolutely breathtaking, with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. It felt like a fairytale! If you're looking for a beautiful, intimate venue, this is the place. Highly recommend! Also, the photos we took before our ceremony are priceless.

This location was perfect for our goals. We wanted a natural setting, close by accommodations, (relatively) easy access to a major airport, an intimate are for the ceremony, and the ability to actually afford it! Don Hoel's lucked upon us as we took a scenic drive down Oak Creek Canyon. Not only is the natural setting of this place UNBEATABLE, but the accommodations at Don Hoel's hold all the charm of the environment around them. A beautiful space for the ceremony, coupled with convenient on-site reception area, and darling cabins gave us the perfect space for our dream wedding. Not only that, but the staff have been incredible. Since we are self planning, they have been more than patient helping us understand timelines, budgets, inclusions, recommendations, advice, and so much more. We are so pleased and grateful we found this place and its incredible staff.

I would strongly NOT recommend this place. My husband and I got married at Don Hoel’s in May. Multiple members of the staff were a nightmare to work with. Horrible with communication, responding to emails and answering phone calls. Staff also frequently promised to send information/call back later and didn’t. Staff was rude to us, guests, and party members on multiple occasions. We had paid the deposit before they hired on a wedding coordinator, but the wedding coordinator didn’t make the experience any better. We would often come to a verbal agreement only for them to change their mind in writing or add requirements later. We had to fight hard to keep them to their word/our original agreement. They also conducted venue tours while we were setting up the space, wedding day. While they are completely able/within their right to do so, I find this so disrespectful. In my opinion, the wedding coordinator should help the day of wedding flow, not prioritize future customers over the current ones. Plus, the wedding party is running around trying to get stuff done and the coordinator is now unavailable for questions, help, etc. So many things made difficult for us. Too much to go line by line and write in a review. The core problems, are honoring verbal agreements, communication, not respectful, and customer service. I, my husband, and our families struggled working with this venue’s contacts. While Don Hoel’s is a pretty venue and I loved my wedding day, working with them is not worth the months of headache. I rarely write reviews. I usually stand to the side and stay quiet, but in this case, I can’t. I can’t stand the idea of staying silent and another bride/groom going through this experience when it’s supposed to be one of the happiest times for a couple. So bottom line, my strong recommendation is to pick another venue.
