I'm Carroll Baker, a comedy magician and mentalist in Columbus, and I've been doing this full time for 35 years and a bit over ten thousand shows.

Here is what I actually do at a wedding. While you are off having photographs taken, your guests are standing around with a drink and nothing scheduled. That gap is the part nobody plans and everybody remembers. I work through it group by group with close-up magic, right at their hands, and by the time you walk back into the room people from different sides of your family are talking to each other.

That is the real job. The magic is how it happens rather than the point of it.

It is comedy first and it is clean. It plays to your grandmother and your college roommates at the same time, which is the part most entertainment gets wrong at a wedding. Nobody gets dragged up in front of everyone, and nobody gets embarrassed.

I also do bachelor and bachelorette parties. It is the same crowd a few weeks earlier, usually in somebody's house or a rented room, and it is a good way to break the ice with a group of people who do not all know each other yet.

If I know a little about the two of you, how you met, what your people are like, I will build something into the show just for you. That costs nothing extra and it is my favorite part of the night.

One last thing. If your guests do not enjoy it, you pay nothing. I have never had to honor that, but it is there so the risk sits with me rather than with you.
