Birthers of Civilization: Weddings

Birthers of Civilization, a wedding officiant service in Oakland Park, Florida, doesn't do generic ceremonies. Every Florida wedding we officiate is written collaboratively with the couple in front of us — their story, their culture, their values — never a script pulled off a template.

We're known for holding weddings the way we hold every sacred threshold: with intention, presence, and cultural depth. Led by a Black and Puerto Rican officiant rooted in South Florida's beautifully diverse communities, we specialize in interfaith, intercultural, and blended-family ceremonies — the kind of unions that don't fit neatly into one tradition, and shouldn't have to. All couples are welcome here, exactly as they are.

One tradition we hold with particular reverence is Jumping the Broom, offered for African-American couples honoring their heritage — a sacred act of claiming union rooted in Black American history, carried forward with the weight and meaning it deserves.

What makes us different isn't just the ceremony itself — it's what surrounds it. We're also a full-spectrum doula practice, which means we understand thresholds. We know what it means to hold a family through their most vulnerable, most joyful, most transformative moments. That same care shows up in how we plan your ceremony: real conversations, real listening, and a ceremony built to feel like an heirloom, not a transaction.

Many couples we marry return to us later — for family planning support, for doula care when they're expecting, for the next sacred threshold in their story. We're not just officiating a day. We're honoring a beginning.
