Babette is a restaurant wedding venue located in Berkeley, California. Chef/Owners Joan Ellis and Patrick Hooker have worked together their entire marriage of 24 years beginning with the wholesale bakery Joan started in San Francisco. Patrick grew up with a southern grandmother who piqued his sweet tooth at an early age. She whipped up a feast whenever the family would visit and when he was old enough, he began following recipes his mother had so he could feed himself and his brother brownies, cookies and other treats when threy came home from school. His passion for baking grew over the years as he included a savory focus into his repetoire as well. Music was a huge part of his life and after years of touring and performing with several notable bands, he moved from Houston Texas to San Fransisco California. Working at odd jobs in coffee houses and upscale grocery stores, Patrick met his future wife and business partner and she encouraged him to get into restaurants and discover and develop his passion for baking and cooking. Patrick landed a couple of very challenging jobs at very notable restaurants in S.F. and was encouraged to go to cooking school in Paris to bolster his resume by a friend and headhunter. He immediately began studying french and then set out for Ecole LeNotre where he spent a year fine tuning his craft. Upon his return to S.F. he surprised his friend and now wife Joan, and told her that he wanted to come and work for her in her wholesale bakery. Patrick helped grow the business three-fold and the couple married and had a son. Together they have manifested their love of food and community by continuously hosting backyard garden parties, catering friends weddings and birthdays and now, opening the doors of their restaurant to a whole community where they can share their warm personalities, attention to detail and ambience, creative, beautiful and delicious food and pastries for all to enjoy.

Joan wears many hats at Babette -Co-Owner with her husband Patrick,Chef, Pastry Chef, Gardener, Menu Planner, Line Cook and all things that keep the aesthetic at Babette beautiful and welcoming.
