About
Andy Bossov is multi-taltented as a civil wedding officiant and a singing pianist in the Chicago area, having earned degrees both in religious studies and music.
As a wedding officiant, Andy works with each coupled to create a uniquely personalized ceremony in non-denominational settings, whether theistic or not, serving couples of any background and orientation, in a solo capacity or collaborating with another officiant colleague. Ordained as a Reform rabbi in 1992 and having served in congregations for 20+ years, Andy currently applies his spiritual sensitivity to work as a hospice chaplain and officiant -- in addition to leading life cycle events in his own denomination. He likes to point out that he is "part" Christian having received a living kidney donation from a Methodist minister friend back in 2007! Having lived in Wilmette, IL, for significant parts of his life, he is greatly influenced by the teachings of the universalistic Ba'hai faith and the sense of wonder he finds in nature as an amateur gardener.
He performs a wide range of musical styles as a pianist and singer spanning Broadway show tunes, jazz and pop standards, rock and roll oldies, classical and novelty piano, and both Jewish and Christian music. Andy studied piano at Oberlin Conservatory, then completed his bachelor's in theory and composition from Northwestern University, and enjoys performing all types of music. Andy is an experienced and responsive accompanist/musical directtor, reading scores or improvising according to the style, and is terrific at private ceremonies and parties. He has sung in choruses at Carnegie Hall, the Washington DC Mall, and the Jerusalem Theatre, and keeps busy with senior residence performances and choruses, teaching piano, leading Jewish worship servicers from the keyboard, Christmas caroling with a professional quartet, and transcribing music for other composers.
