Akumal Bay

We were so pleased with the end result of our wedding day. The flowers and table decor were a particular highlight, as well as the wonderful staff at the evening reception. We have some beautiful memories that we will cherish forever.

As our 20th wedding anniversary approached, my husband and I were searching for the perfect way to celebrate our abiding love. We found the way at Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort, one of our favorite winter get-a-ways. What better way to say, "I'd do it all over again", than to do it all again?! We discovered that they also plan Wedding Renewal celebrations. The wedding team worked so personally and happily to help us create our own special day and very affordable! We wanted and intimate affair with a handful of guests and a beautiful location. They helped s choose flowers and music and created a perfect place on the beachfront for our ceremony. We selected a peaceful, early time, and we really appreciated the ceremony by our minister. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a beautiful couple's massage and our dinner with friends that evening was wonderful. I thought the wedding cake was the perfect ending, however we had a surprise; our room was decorated, our room was beautifully decorated, and sparkling wine was awaiting. From sunrise to moonrise it had been a perfect! Thank you Ivania for all your team did to make this such a wonderful celebration. Steve and Barbara.

The venue was beautiful and the whole day turned out so well. Antinea and Ivania were amazing to work with - very organized, helpful, and made sure everything ran smoothly. We really appreciated their timely responses and felt taken care of throughout the entire process.

The wedding staff were also incredible - kind, attentive, and always had the tequila shots flowing. :) We had so many guests comment on how good the food was (we went with the Italian buffet), and we absolutely loved the decor and flowers they put together. Everything looked amazing and came together perfectly.

We had our wedding at this resort, and I honestly cannot say enough good things. The team absolutely delivered. Every detail was executed exactly as I had envisioned and described, if not better. The organizers were punctual, professional, and incredibly polished. Everything ran smoothly, seamlessly, and without a single issue.

What impressed me most was how they took my ideas and brought them to life so perfectly, despite the earlier concerns. The setup, coordination, and overall atmosphere exceeded anything I could have imagined.

If you’re feeling unsure during the planning stage - don’t be. This team really pulls through where it matters most. Our wedding day was flawless, and I’m so grateful for the experience they created for us.

Let me start off by saying that I have gone to many destination weddings and have been a wedding planner myself. I am currently planning a destination wedding for a family member and I am reminded why this place is magical and I’m so happy we chose this venue.

We had almost 120 people at our destination wedding and they somehow managed to make it feel intimate and maintained such a high-level of service for the week we were there. The value and quality of services is unparalleled from what I’ve seen.

It is a smaller, boutique hotel so if you want a club, a rowdier crowd, and super fast service- this is not the place to have your wedding. You will have lots of activities you can choose to do, but the vibe is laid back and peaceful. With that said, our experience as the bride and groom was top notch. The staff knew who we were everywhere we went and bent over backwards for us with everything we needed.

Some things that need improvement-
Even though there were beds and chairs available, getting towels was very difficult. There was usually at least a ten minute wait to get a towel.

Food wait times can be very long at some specialty restaurants. However, for the most part, the food is really good, especially for an all inclusive.

We had some issues with room reservations. My mom who has mobility issues was not given a ground floor room despite multiple requests in advance while other guests in our same party were given the ground floor rooms maybe by mistake. We also had several guests who requested two separate beds and despite requesting two beds multiple times prior to arriving, was given 1 king bed.

Now, here are some of the highlights-

You can swim with turtles! I swam with turtles every single day we were there for the wedding including the morning of our wedding. They are the biggest reason I wanted my wedding at Akumal

The beach is so beautiful and the view is amazing from every room.

Antinea, our amazing wedding coordinator. She is truly a wonderful person and you can tell she loves what she does. We cannot say enough kind things about her.

We also had the most impeccable service from our personal server at our reception, Toribio. He anticipated our needs, our glasses were never empty, l dropped a napkin and within a few moments a new one was waiting for me. This man was something else.

Jose- who was our server for the romantic dinner and also took care of some tables at our reception. Really all of the staff were amazing.

Marc- our videographer. Hire him. He does incredible work and really worked with me on our video even months after the wedding.

We had the most amazing experience at Akumal Bay. Even with the USD vs CAD making things a little pricier for us, it truly felt like we got exactly what we paid for. Everything was beautiful and thoughtfully done!

Our coordinator, Antinea, was wonderful!! She had a lot to manage on the day but she made everything run so smoothly behind the scenes. She organized every detail beautifully and her warm, calming energy made such a difference leading up to the day. Any little thing I forgot about was taken care of without me having to worry. The rest of the staff were also A+.

So many things stood out. The food was delicious and the cake was gluten free and honestly one of the best cakes I’ve ever had. The venue itself was stunning, and the florals and decor were exactly what we hoped for. The officiant was lovely, easygoing, and captured our story perfectly. The rooms were great too. Our suite was decorated on the wedding night and we were treated to a romantic dinner for two later in the week. We were even able to reuse our florals for a post wedding lunch the next day which our guests absolutely loved.

There was only one small hiccup. The main pool was under construction when we arrived and we hadn’t been notified beforehand. Luckily it opened the day after the wedding so we still got to enjoy a few days with the brand new pool.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend Akumal Bay to any couple looking for a private, intimate resort with an incredibly beautiful venue and a caring team. Wedding jitters and pre-wedding drama had me stressed going in, but Antinea made the entire experience feel taken care of in the best possible way!

We had an intimate destination wedding attended by about 30–40 of our closest family and friends. The entire experience—from the warm welcome to the breathtaking ceremony and lively reception—was beyond anything we imagined.

Upon arrival, we were completely blown away by how beautifully everything was arranged. Our room was decorated with fresh roses, and the bridal suite was filled with thoughtful details that made us feel truly special. Two days before the wedding, we met our wedding coordinators, who immediately put us at ease. They were organized, professional, and incredibly kind—guiding us through every detail and making sure our day unfolded perfectly.

The ceremony venue was absolutely stunning, framed by the natural beauty of Akumal Bay. Although it was windy on the days leading up to the wedding, the weather on our big day turned out just perfect. The atmosphere, the gentle ocean breeze, and the golden sunset glow created the most romantic setting imaginable.

Our reception by the pool was vibrant and unforgettable! The food and drinks were abundant—every dish was delicious, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about it. The audio and lighting were exactly what we hoped for—festive, yet intimate. The music filled the night with joy, and everyone danced under the stars.

Our coordinators never left our side, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Their attention to detail and genuine care made all the difference. We also appreciated the thoughtful extras—a free couple’s massage, a private dinner by the beach, and even a special dinner for our entourage. Every gesture made us feel valued and celebrated.

Akumal Bay Resort is the perfect place for couples who want a beautiful, intimate, and stress-free destination wedding. It’s not overly large, so guests can easily connect and celebrate together. The resort is conveniently located (about 25 minutes from the airport), which made travel simple for everyone.

To future couples searching for the place to say “I do” — look no further. Akumal Bay Resort truly delivered a wedding that was heartfelt, elegant, and full of joy. We left with our hearts full, feeling blessed and grateful. We can’t wait to come back and relive the memories all over again. 💖
