Destination Wedding Review
Overview
I'm taking great care to write this review because I want it to be genuinely helpful for anyone considering booking their wedding at an all-inclusive resort — specifically, The Fives. Our experience was extraordinary from start to finish, and I'll cover the points I believe are most important when making this decision. We had five events for our wedding so I can speak about the consistency of our experiences.
Choosing The Fives
When my husband and I were shopping resorts, we ultimately made our final decision on The Fives — but our only exposure to the resort was a three-hour tour of the property and the event locations. We did not stay there in advance. It was truly a leap of faith. To add to that, our destination wedding wasn't an intimate 20 or 30 people; it was nearly 100 guests. We had no firsthand knowledge of the food quality, the service standards, or how things would be managed. We relied solely on outside reviews. What we experienced far exceeded anything we could have anticipated.
We also had to thread a fine needle: finding a property that was affordable for a range of guests, while still offering clean, fresh, well-maintained accommodations that represented genuine value. The Fives hit that mark. This is a wonderful place for the discerning traveler and equally for the guest who is saving up to make this a truly memorable trip.
Pre-Arrival Planning & Communication
From the moment we chose The Fives, the planning process was well-managed. We had multiple Zoom meetings throughout, and the team paced the planning in a thoughtful, structured way — starting with the broad strokes and then working through each event one at a time, month by month. It never felt overwhelming.
The one area with room for improvement was email communication. A single email string could balloon to 80 or 90 messages back and forth, which made it difficult to reference previous answers or track specific requests. It was the only clunky part of an otherwise smooth process. I would strongly recommend that The Fives consider implementing a portal-style communication platform for wedding planning. Something organized and searchable would make an already great experience even better — and would be a meaningful upgrade for future couples managing multiple events with a large guest count.
Guest Rooms & Accommodations
The guest rooms were a standout. The furnishings were new, the rooms were exceptionally clean, and the spaces were genuinely spacious. What set these rooms apart — particularly compared to other all-inclusives in the area — was the brightness and freshness of the interiors. Housekeeping was exceptional. Many all-inclusive resorts we toured in the region have rooms that felt dark, smelly from the mangroves (marsh), and dated. The Fives felt like a completely different standard. Far better than anything comparable we had seen nearby.
Check-In & Guest Services
The check-in experience was smooth overall. On the occasions where guests had any issues — whether room changes or anything else — they reached out directly to Paradise Weddings, our booking agency, and every matter was addressed straight away. Having a dedicated booking agency in your corner as the point of contact made the entire process seamless for our guests.
The Property, Pools & Resort Amenities
The Fives has a unique, campus-like, organic jungle feel to it — which is a large part of why we chose it in the first place. The property is beautiful, the interiors are fresh, and the overall condition is wonderful.
There are pools everywhere — each building on the property has its own pool — and there are plenty of cabanas along the beach. One of the reasons we specifically chose this resort was its ability to accommodate guests of all ages. There were fantastic amenities and entertainment options for the children in our group, while adults had no shortage of spaces to relax and enjoy themselves. There is even a dedicated adults-only pool area for those looking for a quieter atmosphere. Though, if I’m honest, the children at our wedding behaved considerably better than some of our adult guests, LOL.
Food & Dining
We had nearly 100 guests, many of them seasoned travelers who have visited all-inclusive resorts around the world. The overwhelming consensus was that The Fives served the best food they had experienced at any all-inclusive resort, across every restaurant on the property.
Bar & Drinks
The quality of alcohol served at The Fives is top-notch and decidedly higher-end than what you typically find at an all-inclusive. The one note from some of our guests was that drinks were occasionally poured on the lighter side. However, that was an easy fix — anyone who wanted a stronger pour simply asked for a double, and the bar staff happily obliged. My more seasoned partygoers had no complaints after that. The quality is there; just know that a simple request goes a long way.
Staff & Service
From housekeepers all the way up to management, every single person at this property was welcoming and carried themselves with grace. We felt special every step of the way, and so did our guests. The staff would not only meet expectations — they consistently went above and beyond with small details that made the experience that much more memorable. Many of our guests have already expressed that they will be returning. We absolutely will be returning as well and have had no regrets having our wedding at The Fives.
Wedding Planning & On-Site Coordination
We had five events planned, which meant a lot of moving parts. The process of coordinating and ordering everything we wanted — across all events — was surprisingly smooth. I will note that the à la carte items you add to any event, whether flowers, entertainment, or décor, are represented by small pictures in the planning materials. Do not let that fool you. What you actually receive is four to five times better/nicer than what those images suggest.
Our coordinators, Isa and Miguel, were top-notch professionals. I cannot say enough good things about them. They were never frazzled. They were a calming force throughout the entire process, kept events on time, and addressed any potential hiccups seamlessly and without drama. Isa would make recommendations that were completely spot on to our vision and spirit of the events.
Handling the Unexpected
Part of what defines a truly professional crew is not how they perform when everything goes perfectly — it's how they respond when adversity strikes. Our first event was outdoors, and it began raining just 15 minutes before the start time. We received a message from our coordinators letting us know they could move the event to an alternate location with only a 30-minute delay. I notified all guests, and 30 minutes later, every cocktail table and every decoration was perfectly in place — as if nothing had ever happened. That was short of amazing. This crew is exemplary.
Wedding Ceremony & Event Locations
We had both an Indian-style ceremony and a civil ceremony. The coordinators were well-versed in the type of celebration we had in mind and gave us complete free range in setting things up the way we envisioned.
The event locations at The Fives are beautiful. We did opt for premium locations that came at an additional cost, but it was absolutely worth every penny. With the exception of our beach front mehndi white and pink party, each event felt remarkably private — you never felt like you were sharing the space with the general resort guests. For a wedding of nearly 100 people across five events, that level of privacy and exclusivity is hard to find at the resorts we shopped.
As for the beach front mehndi party — held in front of the large pool at the beach — the open setting turned out to be a highlight in its own right. The staff put together such a beautiful, vibrant party that onlookers stopped and watched in complete awe. The energy was electric, the entertainment was fantastic, and honestly, we would have invited spectators to join us.
Flowers & Vendors
The installation crew and florists were simply phenomenal. The floral arrangements we ordered — based on nothing more than a small planning photo — turned out to be absolutely incredible, far larger and more stunning than we ever expected. Every arrangement was generous and impeccable. The value for what was delivered was remarkable. Every small request we made was executed perfectly, without exception. The vendors that The Fives contracts with are clearly highly vetted, and they will make you shine.
Entertainment
The entertainment across our events was equally impressive. We had hired drummers for our pink and white party on the beach. They were worth every penny. The artists engaged everyone and certainly created a lasting impact. We thought we were getting just drummers with an opportunity for guests to drum along with music but instead it was a longer program with dancers who created a light show. Everyone had a blast.
Wedding Cake & Desserts
Our package already included a full dessert buffet with a beautiful spread of various sweets. That said, I had to have a wedding cake — and I have no regrets. We chose a classic white cake with white frosting, and it was honestly one of the most delicious wedding cakes I've had in quite some time. A small detail, but one that did not go unnoticed by our guests.
Photographer — Javier
Our photographer, Javier, was absolutely wonderful. He understood the weight and significance of what we were celebrating and made it his mission to capture every possible moment. He has a beautiful soul, and that warmth comes through in his work.
We have just received our teaser preview shots from the ceremony, and the results are stunning — the images look like they belong in a magazine editorial. We cannot wait to see the full gallery. If you are booking a wedding at The Fives, Javier is not an afterthought — he is a must.
Wedding Package Value
The wedding package at The Fives represented enormous value. Across all five of our events, the total cost was less than what a single comparable event would have run us in the United States. For anyone on the fence about whether a destination wedding makes financial sense, that number speaks for itself.
What We Would Do Differently
DJ: The DJ was great, and the music selection covered everything from Soca to Indian to Reggaeton. However, in hindsight, we had provided him with detailed playlists simply to give him a sense of the vibe we were after — and he stuck to those lists a little too closely. A great DJ should be reading the crowd, using their own experience to keep the energy up, and knowing when to pivot if things start to go flat. What we got felt more like a curated playlist than a DJ performance — something we could have managed off an iPad.
My advice to future couples: do not give your DJ a long, detailed playlist. Give them a general sense of your taste and then trust them to do their job. The more you prescribe, the less room they feel they have to work their magic.
Stay Longer: Book more time at the resort after your events conclude. We had such an incredible time celebrating with friends and family in a truly gorgeous environment that when it was all over, we simply wanted the fun to last. For every single one of our guests, it was genuinely hard to leave.
Final Recommendation
I cannot recommend The Fives — and specifically hosting a wedding here — highly enough. This crew not only did a beautiful job, but they have the experience, the systems, and the heart to back it up. The vendors they work with are highly vetted and will make you shine.
For us, the fact that every single guest found it hard to leave said everything. Our leap of faith in choosing The Fives paid off in every way imaginable. Our guests told us it was the best and most fun wedding they had ever attended.
Phew!
