My Reviews(6)
Wilshire United Methodist Church Los Angeles, California
This is my home church and I'm so proud that it didn't let me down in terms of holding my wedding ceremony and reception here. For future brides out there, I would highly recommend getting married here. Lori Jones, our wedding and special events coordinator is very helpful and she pays attention to detail. Paula Davis, her alternate, is also a doll! If you plan on having your wedding here make sure to book it about a year ahead because the church rents out to other outside organizations. Saturday seems to be the most common day for a wedding at the church but I had mine on a Friday evening. If you also want to book your reception let me inform you that the Fellowship Hall, where the reception will be held, only holds 250 guests (seated) and the tables seat 8, not 10. Don't ask them to seat 10 because it is REALLY CROWDED. If you fill the hall beyond 250 they can rent out an overflow room that seats 50 (this is an estimate so you have to ask Lori or Paula) but it's located away from the Fellowship Hall which means your guests won't be able to see the action. So this is something to think about when you have a large guest list. The sanctuary's no problem. It holds more than 250. Let Lori know if you need the church organist for your ceremony music. NO OUTSIDE ORGANISTS ARE ALLOWED. Only the church organist can use the organ. That's policy and has been there for years so please don't question Lori about it. If you have an outside pianist it's fine as well as outside string groups.
I'm glad I decided on the menu Richard presented me with because I remembered my cousin and their wives, and my some of my friends aren't particular with Filipino cuisine. They loved the meal and that's what makes me happy. The company doesn't include china, silverware, and glassware though so if you decide to book them they charge you a separate bill for this. Richard's flexible about payment for the dinnerware if you ask nicely :). They can do either buffet or sit down reception. We had a buffet for our reception and I'm glad Richard assigned servers at the buffet station otherwise the guests would just go nilly willy getting food and not leave anything for the other guests. There were also servers going around filling up water goblets. The company includes a coffee and tea bar with your menu but Richard has this fabulous drink station that you could ask for. Unfortunately we forgot to taste the drinks but our guests had their share and I noticed they filled them up probably 3 or 4 times over. Typical menu includes 1 salad dish, 3 hors d'eouvres (passed), 2 entrees, 2 sides, coffee and tea bar, fruit display. Make sure to book early with the company too and provide them with a program for the reception so that they can plan along with your DJ/emcee. Oh, they don't charge a cake cutting fee when I booked them but ask if they still don't. I booked them in 2008 for my wedding last September 25, 2009.
This company delivered and so much more! Their photographer and videographers were professional and really paid close attention to detail. In our culture we want the groom and bridal accessories photographed/captured on video before the bride and groom wear them and I'm glad they did that for us. They're patient but I think their photographer was overwhelmed with our guests constantly asking to be photographed with us after the ceremony :). Ask Mr. Jarrad or Manny Artadi about packages that include a 3 piece jazz band and a DJ and emcee. I met them during one of LA's Bridal Expos held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. These packages are reasonable too. I highly recommend the package because they have contacts to this great jazz trio and a great emcee, Adrian. There was never a dull moment during our reception and our guests loved him and the band. Make sure you plan a reception program because they want to personalize the reception as much as they can. Don't forget to send a must play songs list too for the DJ. Adrian is so flexible and even makes sure you enjoy the evening.
Kien Giang has several wedding cake designs you can choose from and what I like is you can choose your own cake flavor and filling! They can fill it with seasonal fruits or just plain chocolate/vanilla(?) cream filling. What's more their icing is not, I repeat, NOT TOO SWEET. The sweetness is just right. Ali and Debbie will help you if you can't decide on what to put on the cake and what not. They can put fresh flowers on your cake too! Let them know what you want. Before you book them check their website and make sure your event doesn't coincide with the Moon Cake festival. Their shop is busy during this period because they ship their moon cakes nationwide.

I loved my custom made gown! Tess, the seamstress, will help you choose the appropriate cut and design for you. This shop specializes in Filipino style gowns that have lovely embroidery and beading and Tess can personalize your gown to the style you want. I originally wanted a gown that hid my arms (big fat guns) but she convinced me to go strapless and according to my maid of honor (my sister) it suited me fine. But Tess included a bolero for me to wear during the ceremony and insisted the bolero come off for the reception. She can also do a detachable train with a bustle if you let her know. Book her 6 months to a year before your event.
Loved their services!! Thank you to Ms. Norma Pachuca for all her help. Norma will help you with the appropriate materials needed. They rent out linens, napkins, chair covers, and decorative backdrops. I might have missed some so just check their website for other rentals they offer. I LOVED how our reception hall looked after they were done. It was adorable! Book ahead about a year before your event to get a good deal. Her staff were on time too and to think my event was in Los Angeles and they come from Montebello (the I-5 can be a drag in traffic).
