Wedding details
How We Met Believe it or not, we met on match.com! Jaid claims to have sent Lindsey a message in December of 2008, but Lindsey never received it. In early 2009, Jaid decided to give it another shot and sent Lindsey another e-mail. Unfortunately, Lindsey had decided not to renew her match.com subscription, and she didn't get his second message right away either! When we finally got in contact, we exchanged e-mails and then phone calls for a few weeks before making plans to meet for dinner at Bambu, a sushi restaurant in Georgetown. We had a great first date featuring a lovely walk through the Georgetown Palisades, and up a hill that made Jaid work hard to hide the fact that he was breathing hard while trying to tell a story. After our first date, we quickly made plans to get together later the same week, and shared our first kiss at the corner of 18th and U Streets in Adams Morgan, while we were walking from an Ethiopian restaurant to Tryst for dessert. We've been inseparable ever since! The Proposal We got engaged on St. Thomas, USVI during an amazing Caribbean cruise. St. Thomas was the second of three stops, and the only one during which we had planned to spend the day relaxing (as opposed to zip-lining in San Juan or sailboat racing in St. Maarten!). We spent the morning shopping in Charlotte Amalie, and then planned to go to the beach for the afternoon. We headed over to Magen's Bay, a beautiful, peaceful cove just over the hills from Charlotte Amalie. After spending a couple hours in the water and relaxing and reading on the beach, Lindsey was ready to head back to the ship to clean up! Jaid said that before they left, he wanted to go down to the end of the beach and take some pictures. After taking several photos, Jaid put his camera away and then stood up very quickly and gave Lindsey a big, tight hug. Lindsey thought this was a little weird, but didn't think much of it; it turns out the reason he was hugging her so tight was the he had a big, fat, sparkly blue rock behind Lindsey's back and he didn't want her to see it! Jaid started saying lots of really nice things about how he didn't think he would ever meet somebody as wonderful as Lindsey and how he felt that with Lindsey by his side, anything was possible. Lindsey thought all these things were really nice, but she didn't think he was proposing! He had been acting so normal and relaxed that she had decided that he wasn't going to propose on the trip at all. But as he kept talking, she started to question this, and finally realized what was going on! She was so excited, she started to cry... About halfway through Jaid's proposal, a Jamaican jogger came down the beach straight toward Lindsey and Jaid. We figured he would probably turn around before he got to where they were standing, since we were right at the end of the beach and were obviously having a private moment. As he kept coming toward us, Jaid had to interrupt his proposal by saying, "And, this is really awkward, this guy is coming right over to us and I really wish he would go away!" Jaid made it clear what was going on when he told Lindsey that he couldn't imagine spending his life without her, and couldn't wait to start their lives together. He got down on one knee, held out the most beautiful ring in the world, and asked Lindsey to be his wife. Lindsey said, "Of course!" and couldn't wait to give Jaid a big hug and kiss.
