The Rooftop is such a great location for an alternative to inside the DC area. It is so big and open. It was a perfect location for a cocktail reception. The only thing is there is no contingency plan if the weather is bad. If there is bad weather, you have to move to a different location indoors. The indoors location is nice, but doesnt offer the same "wow" views and feel of the Rooftop itself. They have great rentals that are offered through the same company which makes things much easier and less vendors to deal with. Overall a great experience, even though you can never plan for the weather. My event ended up being indoors, so I couldnt take advantage of the vision I had of having a rooftop reception, but it was a GREAT party nonetheless!!
I had my ceremony here at the Japanese tea house and worked with Ivy. I had the best experience with this team of people. I went back and forth with my dates and times and they kept me in the know as to what could work and what was best. They offered recommendations for rehearsal dinner places, photographers etc. On the day of there was so much rain and I was a stressed bride, but Ivy worked with me and my family and we got it all together. I would get married all over again at this venue and work with the same people. They were timely in returning information/receipts. Beautiful garden area no matter what area you choose!!
Avalon seems to be a great catering company. I should begin by saying that the staff at the event was very polite and helpful and that the event manager for the job was incredible to work with. She was fun, and into the ideas I had for how I wanted the event to be. She went above and beyond in terms of listening to my wants. My husband and I were so excited to use them for our reception after we had a tasting at their location. After the event was over and people began talking about the food however, it was a different story. At our tasting EVERYTHING was so delicious, fresh, and beautiful. At the reception, the food was not the same way. It was a disappointment to see that and feel I made the wrong choice. After calling the company to discuss the matter, I received some resistance to owning up to the fact that things were not up to par for my event. They reluctantly and in a very nit-picky way refunded some money. After arguing, I did receive an apology. If the food is prepared the same way for your event as for a tasting, then you're in good hands. If it is not, then don't expect to have the best food at your reception.

I worked with Rebecca and an intern Jeremy. They were wonderful. They were on time to every event and were so on top of getting all of the good moments and the moments we discussed. Although sometimes very hard to reach, when it was time to work, they did an amazing job. I am still waiting for my photos to really do an assessment, but just in terms of their professionalism, flexibility, excitement, level of ease and comfort with a big group...I love them already. I saw their work from my sisters wedding and it turned out beautifully. I would recommend them to anyone, and will use them again for any event I have. The value you get for the price is not something I could find anywhere else.
