Joe is incredible!!!
We found Joe through our venue’s Vendor List, and as soon as we saw a sample of his photos, we knew we wanted him to be our wedding photographer! Joe has a unique talent of capturing movement, emotion, and little moments that we had not seen from other photographers. From our engagement “date” session to our planning meetings to our big day, Joe helped us feel comfortable and allowed us to be ourselves in front of the camera. He gave minimal directions, encouraging us to interact naturally with each other and our family & friends which resulted in photos that are personal and not super staged. Not only did he beautifully capture the big important moments and small details of the day, but he also got many great candids that we will treasure always! We love our sneak peek photos and can’t wait to see the rest! Thank you for everything, Joe!!! -

If you are in the Massachusetts/New England area, you NEED Joe as your wedding photographer. Full stop! He was incredible to work with throughout the entire process, from planning meetings to "date night" shots to the actual wedding day. Joe approaches his work with his clients first in mind, and made us feel so at ease in front of the camera. He somehow managed to capture every special moment of our day (including the veil snags!) and went above and beyond to get the unique shots that we'll now be able to remember for the rest of our lives. We are so grateful to have met Joe and will be recommending his business to everyone we know! -

Joe was the first vendor we booked when we were planning our wedding (yes, we booked him before booking our wedding venue). It was the best decision we could have made.
My husband and I knew going into our wedding that we didn't want something super traditional. We planned on an intimate, 40-person wedding over Sunday Brunch with dinner party vibes. When we told Joe, he was pumped for us! We were already in love with his portfolio, but after our first call we were totally sold on Joe. He's professional, but also so easy-going and fun to talk to.
Reflecting on our wedding day, a few things are clear:
1. We are SO glad we did the Date Session beforehand. Your wedding day is already stressful, you'll be happy to see Joe's familiar face on the morning of. Also, Joe was familiar with US too, so he could throw out little inside jokes in the moment to help us loosen up during photography.
2. Joe is a seasoned pro at what he does. Planning our timeline with him was a breeze. He came to the wedding prepared with a list of must-shoots that he reviewed with us beforehand. I was also running almost an hour late (!!!) to the venue in the morning, and Joe was able to quickly rework our timeline so my husband and I could still have a first look and enjoy each other's presence. Joe brings a calming, in-control attitude that -- trust me -- you need on your wedding day. Yet, throughout our photoshoots with him, he'd excitedly call out things like "THE LIGHTING HERE LOOKS AMAZING! WOW!" and "YOU TWO LOOK GREAT! I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW GOOD YOU LOOK!" It's so freakin' wholesome and you can't help but smile in the moment!
3. Whether you realize it or not, Joe is capturing those little moments that you'll be grateful to relive through his photography. Joe sent us a wedding sneak peek only one week after our wedding (with a LOT of photos!) and there are so many details that my husband and I loved re-experiencing. So many moments that I didn't know were happening on the day, that we got to see firsthand through his photos. And sneaky photos he caught of us, lovingly together, that we were totally unaware of! Again, so wholesome.
All in all, we are so grateful to have had Joe as our photographer and true friend for our wedding day. Do yourself a favor and hire him!! -

A Wedding Forever Remembered & Captured
We booked Joe for our wedding in Gloucester, MA at the Beauport Hotel on 11/4/22. Joe came highly recommended to us by a friend & guest of our wedding, who had attended a themed wedding he was the photographer before and raved about his style & photos, and his working persona. On that recommendation we reviewed Joe’s work and were very pleased with what we saw. It was important to us as a same-sex interracial could between two men that there would be some representation in his examples and we were both delighted to see that there was, and that it was beautifully shown as equal and not as a token image. We consulted with Joe and were very confident in what he would be able to produce for us, and how well he engaged with us right from the start.
We were SO RIGHT to have gone with Joe. We had multiple consultations up to the wedding day and come that day he was ON IT. We booked his services for 8 hours to capture getting ready, family and wedding party pics, the ceremony, cocktail hour, and a large portion of the reception.
He made it clear that it was the wishes to celebrate our day that would lead his work and it showed in how friendly and accommodating he was to absolutely everyone involved, us, the wedding party, family, guests, etc. His styling and ability to capture light & dark photos, the color vibrancy, the elegance, the fun, all were just right for this occasion. He didn’t miss a single important moment, and captured so many fun candid moments that absolutely keep the memory of our special day alive. At the end of his time, he made sure to come up to us during the partying to make sure that we got absolutely everything we’d hope for and if there were any more shots we could possibly want; this was a very nice way to wrap things up!
A couple months after the wedding, his processing of all the photos was complete and we were given access to digital downloads of a literal thousand very high-quality resolution photos! Choosing just a few to showcase is a challenge for sure, but every one brings such fond memories.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with Joe, and then the end products speak for themselves. We 100% recommend him and will absolutely without question work with him again should we ever need a photographer!

Authentic, magical photos
Joe is stupendous. We were specifically looking for someone who could capture the day's spirit without it seeming posed or forced. We scrolled through dozens of photographer portfolios and faced many of the same staged scenarios that typify the industry. Then we found Joe. Joe's work felt different. His photos have an incredible balance of authenticity and magic to them. In addition, having Joe around during the event was like having another friend at our party except we didn't let him enjoy cocktail hour. He was easy to communicate with from our very first phone call and being at ease throughout the day helped capture some of our most spontaneous moments. Because the day itself flew by so quickly, I genuinely get to relive our wedding day over through his work. For a day that passes by too quickly, investing in a phenomenal photographer is one of the best uses for your money. Joe exceeded all of our expectations, was a consummate professional, and produced candid shots that make me laugh, cry, and, some I don't even remember happening. Based on the photos, it looks like we had a rocking party. 10/10 would recommend. -

Fantastic experience, photos we absolutely love
We were referred to Joe from a friend and were drawn in the minute we saw some of his work; his aesthetic speaks for itself and it was exactly what we were looking for. Once we started working with Joe, we instantly struck up a friendship with him. On our wedding day our experience working with him was absolutely perfect, and the end result in the form of our photos was better than we could have imagined. We've stayed in touch and are always eager to see his work and his travels on Instagram. Couldn't recommend Joe more highly! -

We are SO happy we hired Joe for our wedding! He is so easy to work with, very efficient, and really helped us not feel awkward in front of the camera! We hired him because he photographed our friend wedding, and those photos came out beautiful. Joe sent us sample photos from our wedding ~1.5 weeks after the wedding and we are already in love with them! He captured moments of our wedding beautifully. He even bought us some vegan treats the morning of our wedding because he is vegan, and my husband and I are vegan :) Joe is the best and we are so happy with his work! -

Joe's pictures are amazing and there isn't even a question of that. What you might not expect is you get a guide and a friend to help you navigate your day. Weddings are stressful and from start to finish and Joe helped make that stress go away. Joe was a sounding board for planning our DIY farm wedding. He helped us find vendors, plan our timeline, and gave us confidence to be able to make such an amazing day. Then came the big day and Joe made it so easy. He has this way of reminding you to concentrate on the special moments all while capturing the experience. Joe is just a good human and we are thankful that he was part of our day.
You should also know that we got our pictures in a timely fashion and they were gorgeous. The product was quality and he provided a great value. His communication is great and he was always on time. -

Creative and Energetic Photographer
We brought on Joe five days before our wedding date via a referral from our original photographer who could not make the trip to Boston due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Joe saved our wedding day and we could not be happier with his commitment to capture our special day despite the ongoing pandemic. Joe was a pleasure to work with! He provided clear instruction for all of our portraits and family photos. His enthusiasm was contagious and really made for a fun experience. And his creativity really shone through with his action shots taking advantage of city lighting and the weather (snow) to capture special moments . We received the Sneak Peak gallery and are over the moon about how those shots came out. We cannot wait to see the full gallery. We highly recommend Joe for anyone who is looking for a wedding photographer! -

Your wedding photos will be unlike anyone else's if you work with Joe Gonzalez-Dufresne. They will be uniquely YOU. He got to know us before the big day, so when the time came, we felt exceptionally comfortable being ourselves in his presence. To be honest, we felt so at home that we barely noticed he was there. He captured our relationship more fully and honestly than I ever imagined possible. His photos offered the movement and sense of urgency from our wedding day and brought each and every detail flooding back. Joe has an artistic eye that is both personal and precise. If you are reading this review, you probably saw Joe's website and thought "I like what I see. I wonder if this guy is any good?" The answer is a resounding yes. Joe is the perfect blend of total professional and chill fun guy. He clearly knows what he's doing from a business standpoint. He's a great communicator, has many back up plans in case anything goes wrong, knows all the right questions to ask. And at the same time, he is very easy going and easy to be around. Unless you ask for it, Joe doesn't do a lot of posed photos. He does his best to get you to act naturally (much harder than you think!), and just be with your person.
What I loved the most about Joe's photos when I saw his website were all these hidden moments I saw. Everyone knows to take a picture of the ring exchange. But not everyone takes a picture of the guests at the same time. Some of my favorite photos are seeing the expression (tears, laughter, love) on some of my family members' faces when I was busy doing something else (like getting married).
After our ceremony Joe convinced us to climb into a nearby river t take some pictures. He said the light was amazing, and it was. What was also amazing is that Joe took off his shoes and socks and climbed in the river with us, in solidarity.
If you look at Joe's website, and you like what you see, and then you talk to him, and you like that to, do yourself a favor and just hire him. It only gets better from there. I liked him so much I flew him from Massachusetts where he lives to California where I live, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. -

Dave Sent on 12/18/2017We were looking for a non traditional wedding photographer who could capture each moment beautifully and artistically. Joe was amazing. We consider ourselves lucky that we were able to find him. Joe was super friendly and fun to work with. He made us feel comfortable, but most importantly, we loved his style. During shoots, he doesn't direct you what to do; he simply wants you to relax and be comfortable. He then captures candid moments and stylizes them in post-edits to make us feel like we were in a magazine photo shoot. His work is truly amazing. As an aspiring photographer myself, I'm constantly studying his work and learning something new. We constantly praise his work to our friends and family and anyone who is looking for a wedding/engagement photographer. Joe is simply the best!
