User2429649 Sent on 11/16/2015We worked with Five Spice for our wedding at the Dumbo Loft. It was clear during the planning phase that food was the most important aspect of the wedding for us. Calling them caterers evokes the wrong images - this is a fine dining experience at your own wedding. Every dish was designed and prepared with thoughtfulness and care, and from appetizers to dessert, the food was phenomenal. Honestly, the meal at our wedding was by far the best that I've had at any wedding and it is the first thing our guests talk about when we see them. One of our foodie guests even went into the kitchen to ask the cooks how they prepared one of the dishes.
Mukti and Imelda are quite the duo; highly complementary and very sweet. While both are involved throughout the process, Mukti leads on the business end and Imelda leads on the menu and in the kitchen. After speaking with other wedding caterers, talking with Mukti was a breath of fresh air - there's no hard sell, no fake deadlines and no exploding discounts. She always volunteered her honest opinion on what she thought would work and what wouldn't. Also she's really organized and kept me sane during the final days leading up to the wedding. From signing the contract through making last minute changes, Mukti was highly transparent on costs. She was also happy to brainstorm with me on how to cut back on non-essential areas (that conversation was painful with other caterers). Imelda was also amazing to work with and helped to curate our random assortment of ideas for the menu into a balanced, delicious ensemble. Throughout the process they both felt more like close friends than vendors. They will make you feel totally comfortable during a often stressful time.
Mukti and Imelda were such a pleasure to work with that we wish we had another reason to hire them again. Instead we're both actively convincing our friends to use Five Spice for their weddings just so we can enjoy more of their delicious creations. -
User1538349 Sent on 02/18/2014Five Spice provided catering for my son's 30th birthday. Mukti, the owner, did a fabulous job providing exactly what we needed. All of the planning was done over the phone because I live out of town. She is professional and understands events! I had a small 'window of time' for her to deliver, set up, straighten up and leave before my son arrived. She had stopped by several days before to check out the room, parking and any other delivery needs. Mukti is professional and knew exactly what I needed for a party of young adults during the dinner time hour. All of the food was fresh, attractively displayed and delicious! If you are serving young men her mini-pork sliders were a huge hit! I highly recommend Five Spice for any catering you might need. I just wish she could be in Charleston for my next party! -

Planning your own wedding is a daunting task when taking on a raw, but beautiful space like the Greenpoint Loft. However when we first spoke to Mukti and Imelda, and met them for the first time at the tasting they held, we knew that they were the right people to make our wedding come to life. The job that they did for us was flawless and we will always be grateful to Five Spice for making our wedding day great.
Throughout the planning process, Mukti and Imelda were always there to hear our ideas, offer their insights, and help us come to the right decisions. They really went above and beyond just catering. Every conversation we had with Five Spice, we were asked how we were doing, and at any sign of distress, they always asked "What is is that is causing you trouble right now?" This was always followed by a helpful suggestion, whether that was to find a tailor for the groom or to provide more ideas for the menu. They genuinely care about making every detail just right and making sure that you are happy.
On the day of the wedding they shined. We were constantly hearing rave reviews during the wedding and in the following days. All of the food was great. Everyone will be talking about the brisket at our wedding for years to come. But it wasn't just the food. The Five Spice team were so warm and helpful throughout the whole day. They took care of every single guest without hesitation and made our friends and family feel right at home.
In the afterglow of the wedding, although we were overjoyed at how perfectly the whole day went, we were disappointed by one fact: that we no longer had a reason to work with Mukti and Imelda. We hope to cross paths with them again one day, because they are so genuinely sweet and delivered the wedding of a lifetime. If you are reading this and considering whether or not to have Five Spice cater your wedding, we hope you don't delay. -
User1447735 Sent on 11/21/2013Five Spice Catering rocks! From the initial tasting to the event itself both Mukti and Imelda were there for us with great ideas and total reliability. They were so thoughtful and I had total trust in their work. The food, a North African and Indian influenced menu, was perfect! So many guests came up throughout the night and since the wedding to let us know how amazing the food was and how awesome the staff was. We didn't have a wedding planner and Mukti filled in the gap, helping us organize and decorate the space and also keeping track of everything that needed to be happening on the big day. They also worked with us to stay within our budget-- even finding a way to fit in the pretty napkins that I wanted. I am pretty positive that the night wouldn't have turned out so perfectly without them. Everything was beautiful and we didn't have to worry about a thing. The BEST!!!! -
User1418322 Sent on 11/03/2013I cannot say enough about how great Five Spice Catering is, but let me try: My husband and I got married on Oct 19. We had 130 guests. Mukti and Imelda did a buffet-style dinner for us with brisket and herb gravy and sea bass with shitake ragout as the two main dishes (plus plenty of accompaniments, including a kale and white bean sautee and a cornbread salad). I actually got to sit down and eat at my own wedding, so I can say firsthand the food was amazing, but beyond that I am still getting dreamy emails from my guests, who were overwhelmed by how tasty everything was. We are friends with a caterer who works with wealthy clients in NYC and the Hamptons, and at a party at her house last Thursday we heard AGAIN how great she thought the brisket was. Meanwhile a guest from Boston emailed to say she's still thinking about the fish. So we have established the food rocked but there's more: Mukti and Imelda are really fantastic to work with. I didn't use a wedding planner so I had to take care of a ton of little details myself and Mukti really walked me through most of them. She helped me pick out furniture, she responded quickly to all of my nitpicky emails, and she drew on her personal creativity as well as her contacts in the design world to help me solve problems and create an event that really fulfilled all of my dreams. In addition, of the caterers I met with, Mukti and Imelda were the best priced, the most personal and the must bulls**t free of any of them. Go with Five Spice - you will not be disappointed! -
User1845970 Sent on 10/05/2014Mukti and Imelda did an amazing job of catering our wedding! We had a very specific goal of serving comfort foods from our two home countries (US/Australia) and they were willing to work with our ideas (and let us bring in a few specialty outside vendors) in order to come up with a perfect menu that was within our budget.
On the day of the wedding, they took care of everything and all our guests raved about the food, both the taste and the beautiful presentation. Our favorite dishes were the fried chicken served in baskets with fresh rosemary and the creamy mac n' cheese! The serving staff and bartenders were attentive and fun - one bartender even quickly ran over after the father of the bride's speech to give him a beer since he had forgotten to bring a drink to toast with!
Overall, Mukti and Imelda were easy and very transparent to work with. They were upfront and honest about issues and costs throughout the process, which was a breath of fresh air after talking to some other caterers. We're so happy we had the opportunity to work with them for such a special occasion! -
User1374696 Sent on 10/11/2013I was recommended to Five Spice through a friend of a friend -- and I was blown away by the style and detail-oriented completeness of this "boutique" catering company.
I hired them for a 250 person fashion event, didn't have much of a budget and they not only met my expectations but became a key element that contributed to its success. They elevated the general mood and vibe with the serving platters and dishware, the personable and attractive staff, the way they laid everything out -- seriously didn't miss a beat. Most importantly, the food was beyond delicious, super creative and again, affordable.
I've hired several caters, but Five Spice has by far been the best experience yet. Thanks, guys! -

User1919115 Sent on 11/12/2014Mukti and Imelda are warm, passionate about their jobs, and make the experience of hiring a caterer really fun. From the planning through our wedding, they were both thoughtful and flexible - we felt so taken care of through the whole process. And for the best part: the food. Imelda and her team in the kitchen made the most fantastic meal that had every one of our guests going back for seconds. Out of the kitchen, the staff was extremely professional and attentive and Mukti kept everything running smoothly without a hitch. Five Spice was a perfect fit for our wedding and we would recommend them for any event you might have! Mukti and Imelda - can't thank you enough!!
