Marvelous Melissa & Joyful Jacque of Burroughs!
My husband, family and I could not be more pleased with our experience at Burrough’s Home. Melissa is exactly who you want planning your wedding! She is wonderfully kind and smart but can be tough when you need her to be! Jacque is her amazing assistant who you can definitely put your trust in. The venue is so historic and beautiful, not to mention the amazing river behind you. Everything about our planning and actually wedding day went so smoothly. Our May wedding was above and beyond amazing. I am so thankful for the Burroughs Home and their staff for making our wedding dreams become a reality. Overall, our wedding was very affordable, complete with DIY decorations and the most cost effective vendors. I am so thankful the Burroughs Home accommodated our wedding plan and the many details that went into it. The home was the perfect place to get ready and celebrate and I am so thankful that we can come back to visit the historical site in the future. The only recommendation I have for summer brides is regarding the heat... have your ceremony at 4p or later (we did 3p and it was too hot & sunny) & put your dance floor in the middle of the pavilion, rather than on the water because the sun was shining HOT and too brightly on our sweetheart table and the dance floor and it deterred guests (including myself) from dancing... but those were all my preferences and do not reflect poorly on the venue itself - just some helpful tips.
My vendors were incredible. Raynz catering was the most affordable option and also happened to offer, in my opinion, the most gourmet food. We had passed hor devours, a bar with a custom wedding cocktail, and champagne toast, buffet dinner, and all the linens/cutlery included for a price that beat every other vendor I contacted in the wedding planning process. Their communication was also prompt and they gave us the impression that they were passionate about serving our guests. It was also delicious food and one of my husband's favorite parts of the day.
Lastly, our photographer Sydney Lasala is truly a professional with a passion and gift for photography. She made our day feel natural and captured our love in a way we will treasure forever! She had done 3 weddings (including mine) at the Burroughs home (maybe more since May) and knows the venue well!Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:

Amazing!
Melissa was our wedding coordinator and she was amazing. The place/history behind the building is beautiful, highly recommend this spot for any wedding! Love love loved it. My husband and I still think about our special day here all the time and we received so many compliments! A huge plus was the scenery (being on the water).Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:

Spectacular

Amazing catering and venue company! Our wedding day had the worst rain forecast of the winter season! And the staff accommodated and implemented all the precautions to keep our guests safe. Everyone was very nice and attentive to our guests, and made our day very magical. The food quality was exceptional! Thank you Jeremy and Jessica for making our day very very special! When Ian blew through- we thought our day was gonna be canceled but they stepped up to the challenge and we were able to have a beautiful wedding. Stunning venue! We hosted our wedding here in April 2022, and our guests were constantly complimenting us on our venue selection due to being on the water and several options for ceremony site. We ultimately chose The Burroughs Home with the covered pavilion as our reception site which allowed a break for our guests from the Florida sun, with air movement while still taking in the beautiful views!Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:

Growing up in Ft Myers Burroughs Home holds a special place in my heart. As soon as i was engaged, i knew we would tie the knot here. The house, grounds, pavilion were perfect for each step of our wedding day from getting ready to ceremony to reception. We had 150 guests and it felt like just the right amount of space. If it’s within your budget, I would recommend getting extra bathrooms. We did not and there was a bit of a wait. Guests didnt mind so much and took it as an opportunity to get to know each other. Lena of Global Event Management (GEM) was so attentive and guided us throughout planning and day-of execution. She’s an all star! PS - we rebooked from Nov 2020 to Nov 2021 due to Covid and the venue and GEM were very understanding and helpful. -

Kristen and Lena did the most fabulous job at making my dream wedding come to life! Not only are they extremely professional, and make sure you are receiving exactly what you are asking them for, but they are also EXTREMELY kind! Through the entire experience, you can tell that they genuinely care about you and your fiancé, and about the wedding you both had in mind! They both give you very helpful advice and suggestions to help you move in a positive direction with any choices to be made! And, both are very much actively present on your wedding day to where you feel nothing but calmness and reassurance that everything is set to go according to plan! We are so thankful that we chose to have our wedding at the Burroughs Home! Lena and her team made sure that our day was perfect and that everything we wanted and needed was there. We could not have asked for a better vendor to work with for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. While searching for a venue with COVID-19 being a reality, the way that the Burroughs is all outdoor and includes the covered pavilion, our decision to go with this venue a no brainier. We immediatly fell in Love with the Burroughs Estate and its historic Florida feel. The grounds have lush history, as well as gardens and waterfonrt view! Our guests found many "photo-op" spots during our wedding and litereally EVERYONE posted photos from this location to their social Media. The Caterer and grounds folks know weddings inside &out and were wonderful to work with!! Lena and her team were honestly the best to work with. Planning a wedding during covid had its challenges. Everything from the beginning of the planning process all the way to our wedding day was smooth. We looked at a few venues and Lena was the only one who really took the time to answer our questions and helped us narrow down what we needed versus what we wanted. It was super convenient to have a location where we could have both the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. The location is absolutely beautiful and made for wonderful photos.
My husband and I had to do most of the planning and financing of the wedding and Lena really helped in every way possible to make sure our wedding vision came true within our budget.
I would 100 percent recommend this venue to anyone and their families. This was such a positive experience. I’m so grateful for everything for this team!Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:

We are so happy with the way our wedding at the Burroughs Home turned out. It is an absolutely beautiful home, with such a peaceful outdoor space too. The location downtown was perfect for us, with convenient parking offered. We booked the house and grounds, which I really recommend because getting ready in the house was such a cool experience for my bridesmaids and me. We were worried it might rain on our day, so it was such a relief to have flexibility with outdoor spots and covered options. The large pavilion was sooo big and such a perfect option for these times when people are more comfortable gathering in open-air spaces. We were also always impressed with how friendly and helpful Lena was. We definitely recommend the Burroughs Home for all kinds of events!Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:

Beautiful place! The grounds are gorgeous and the inside of the home is very beautiful and classy. What an outstanding location to get married at. You can get ready in the home. Then you can have your ceremony at several areas in the grounds. Then have your reception in the outdoor building. Hands down the best location for a wedding. Even through changing of event coordinators, the communication never failed. Gina was always there to guide and answer any of the questions I had. There is a suggestion for any vendor you may need. I can’t express enough words how breath taking this venue is. The historical home, the the oak trees on the property, to the river bank views, to the pavilion. Everything is so beautiful and there are multiple places to choose from for a backdrop for your ceremony.
My wedding was absolutely perfect and I could not have picked a better venue for it.

I cannot say enough good things about the Burroughs Home. Not only is it a beautiful venue, but the coordinators who work there are very professional and very efficient. All of the preferred vendors were professional as well and were great with communication. But, we really couldn't get over how beautiful the venue was and how easy everything was for us on the day of the event. Getting married here was the best decision we made! -

I loved having my wedding at the Burroughs Home! The picturesque backyard gardens and the riverview perfectly blended both of my visions together. The selling point of this venue is the covered, screened in pavilion which provides protection from rain, and the fact that tables and chairs were included in the price. The biggest downsides are: there is no formal bridal suite, which a year before our wedding, I was told were in the plans to include soon and could be ready for our wedding, but hadn't even been started by the time our wedding rolled around. So we were placed in the upstairs front bedroom, which sufficed. But we couldn't access the property until 12:00pm, so there's no "getting ready" there. You just "get dressed" there. There is a functioning bathroom upstairs for the wedding party to use. The other downside was music had to end at 10pm per the city ordinance. But after a long day, 10pm was late enough in my books. Communicating with the staff was easy and they tolerated my umpteen changes to the plan without a problem. Overall, great experience and I definitely recommend the Burroughs Home to anyone getting married in Fort Myers.Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:

The venue is beautiful. You have the historical beauty of the home, and the elegant garden feel in the back of the property by the river. The pavilion was perfect for our 125 guest wedding. We had plenty of room for the tables and most importantly the dance floor! We got so many amazing pictures, and I especially love the group photo they do in the front of the home.
The only thing I was disappointed with was I originally thought we had the house until 10:30pm with the rest of the venue. They informed me the day of the wedding that we had to have our things out of the house by 6pm so it could be locked, and then we were being locked out immediately following the ceremony which ended at 5pm. It was a little frustrating when we wanted to get photos and video inside the home. I wasn’t able to get photos by their beautiful stair case because we were being kicked out. So, just make sure these times are clear with the staff before the wedding day comes. I still highly recommend the venue, it was just frustrating to worry about being locked out of the home before the assigned time.Burroughs Home & Gardens's reply:
Kelsey we are so sorry for any confusion on the day of your wedding. The Burroughs Home is a Historic museum and it is locked once the ceremony begins to protect the home from people coming inside off of the street as well as the protection of personal items of the bridal party left in the home from theft. The home is only closed after the ceremony to the guest again for these same reasons but the Bridal party is always welcomed to come back in and take pictures if the wedding planner communicates that needs to happen. We ask that the wedding planner choose then chooses the best time to move the personal items of the wedding party from inside the Home that is most convenient so that the wedding party has access to all of their personal belongings because the house is locked for protection for the rest of the evening. Again,we are so sorry if there was miscommunication and that was your experience, but we are so happy to hear you loved the grounds and had a beautiful wedding and thank you for the review! -

Kelly Sent on 07/18/2014Do not depend on this location, they might cancel your wedding. My fiancé and I booked the Burroughs home for our december 2014 wedding in june of 2013, a year and a half in advance. After booking all of our vendors, some of whom had to pay for an Uncommon Friends membership to work at the Burroughs, and after spending months planning the layout, decorations, and meeting multiple times with the event coordinator to review all of their available furnishings, we received a phone call from the catering company telling us that the Burroughs home was canceling our wedding - 5 months before our date, a whole year after we signed the contract. The Uncommon Friends Foundation was responsible for canceling on us and they did not even make the phone call - nor did they return a call that made to them. We did get our deposit back but that was to be expected of course. I would have also expected some sort of communication or apology from the Burroughs home / Uncommon friends, but there was nothing of the sort. It was beyond disappointing. From what i understand, they also cancelled the wedding of the couple the weekend after us too. Just beware, this organization can not be trusted and does not know how to handle their clients.
