We got married back in September 2023, and my husband and I were originally planning to get married on Orcas Island. We met with Gavin, whom we immediately vibed with, and then after much debate and a few other factors, we ended up moving our venue off-island. My parents told us there were so many other local vendors that we should consider going with because to them it seemed extreme to have an Orcas Island vendor travel all the way to us, but we were adamant that if they were willing to travel to our new venue, we wanted to keep them. Luckily they were! We ended up getting married in Poulsbo and were still able to keep our "forest formal" theme, even though we were no longer getting married in the woods. Gavin was great with all the details, and was in contact consistently about color schemes, décor plans, while keeping things simplistically chic, and of course food ideas (though we trusted the menu completely after tasting the first appetizer we tried - the roasted hibiscus flower with goat cheese! *chef's kiss*). The menu was full of locally sourced goods - from the salmon to the homemade bread, to the delicious salad and Beecher's mac and cheese. Truly, it was so nice to not have to pour so much thought and energy into the menu because we trusted that Gavin's team would pull it off, and they did it flawlessly. Because we changed the venue, I ended up doing most of the décor myself, but I was a DIY bride, but Asher&Olive brought our forest formal theme to life with their catering and details on the buffet table. Their staff were extremely friendly, the food was phenomenal, and guests were raving about it - we didn't even have any food leftover because people liked it so much they went back for seconds! My parents said towards the end of the evening that we were right to have fought to keep them as our caterers, because everything was delicious and perfect. We heard that praise again when we visited them over the holidays. I 1000% recommend working with Gavin and his crew! -

A perfect fit for our Orcas Wedding!
My wife and I worked with Gavin at Asher & Olive throughout our planning process and the wedding went off without a hitch. Everything was perfect!
We considered a lot of other options on the island like local restaurants, or lots of other off-island caterers before deciding that A&O was a great fit. The food menus looked good and had a lot of options for a fresh Pacific Northwest flavor. Gavin was very easy to communicate with and help us tweak our menu until everything was perfect and fit well into our budget. I never felt nickle-and-dimed and the crew helped us out with plenty of things that other caterers would have charged us for - things like extra serving ware and buckets, or serving food and drink we provided. He was super flexible to our needs and had a calm demeanor that fit well into our somewhat low-key occasion (~70 guests). I felt that as long as I was clear with our plans and desires that I could trust him to get everything done.
On the wedding day all the food was delicious and the Asher & Olive crew were great partners to have. They dropped everything off the day before, set up their tables and decorations quickly, served food on time, and were available when needed but stayed out of the way. We couldn't have asked for a better caterer! Definitely check them out for your Orcas wedding! -

Gavin is INCREDIBLE at what he does! I booked Asher and Olive for my wedding on Orcas Island this past September, and I was amazed with the results. From the booking and menu building process, the complete set-up and meticulously detailed display, to the mouth watering food, and then the entire cleanup - the Asher and Olive team handled everything.
Gavin was so friendly, professional, and just an absolute pleasure to work. As a stressed out bride planning a wedding, Gavin’s positivity and humor was a much needed breath of fresh air!
When it comes to the food, I don’t even know where to start! We served salmon and filet mignon, and both were OUTSTANDING! The appetizers were phenomenal (especially the clams). Honestly, there was not a single thing served that disappointed. My guests could not stop raving. I appreciate good food, but I also really appreciate good presentation; Asher and Olive nailed both!
One last thing - I got married at a private residence, and because I don’t live on the island I was having a hard time determining where we would set up the tables, bar, buffet, etc. Gavin went the extra mile, visiting the venue several times in advance to scope out the location and send me recommendations. Additionally, he offered to come the day before the event to drop off the larger pieces (tables, decorative items, etc), which made day-of preparation a breeze!
Just all around, hiring Asher and Olive was a huge stress relief; they handled everything and I can not thank them enough!! Catering needs, whether large or small, on or off Orcas, this team is the way to go!!

Memorable! In a former life, my wife coordinated high-end events and weddings. So meeting Gavin in-person before we hired Asher & Olive really instilled confidence in our decision to hire them. He genuinely wanted to get to know us so he can transform our rehearsal dinner experience into longlasting memories. He made our family and friends feel like the guests of honor. He did that with his delicious food, decorative ambiance and fun personality. It truly felt like I had a family member plan the beginning of the rest of my life with my bride. -

I am disappointed with having to write this review. Asher and Olive over-charged us for hours and service at our wedding reception. They even asked us to pay our final bill just hours prior to the wedding while knowing they wouldn't have all the servers at our reception. This was both dishonest and unprofessional. We had less servers than we were charged for and were left a very large mess of dishes, food, and glassware throughout our venue. After contacting them several times, the owner agreed to reimburse us. It has now been several months, and we have not received our refund. I have contacted the owner several times asking for our refund and have not yet received it or a reply. I would not recommend this catering company. -

We hired Asher and Olive for a wedding that was scheduled for September 26, 2020. Then COVID hit, and we had to postpone the wedding to August of the following year (2021).
Several months passed, however, and it became more and more apparent that COVID would prevent us from holding the type of event we had envisioned.
After the groom's mother nearly died from heart attack and required a quadruple bypass surgery, we realized that the risks were too great and unless we wanted to put off the wedding to an indeterminate future date, we had to fully change our plans.
We decided to cancel the wedding entirely and to instead focus on holding an immediate family only backyard micro-wedding.
We contacted Asher and Olive in October 2020 regarding our decision to cancel the catering and asked whether something could be arranged for the deposit we paid.
Several months passed without so much as an acknowledgment of the cancellation from Asher and Olive.
Meanwhile, the venue that we had rented, which is a nonprofit organization, responded immediately and with the complete understanding that the situation that was beyond our control. They kindly refunded our full deposit.
In January 2021, we reached out to our wedding coordinator to let him know of our concern that we still had not heard anything back from Asher and Olive regarding our cancellation at all.
He contacted Asher and Olive on our behalf. Finally, after two and a half months of radio silence from Asher and Olive, they responded by saying, essentially "too bad" and that they were unwilling to make any kind of accommodation after we paid them about $5,000 for our deposit.
I understand that the contract says they are not obligated to refund a deposit, but the situation we are in is so far outside the realm of anyone's control.
We are not expecting the entire deposit to be returned but had anticipated that we could get at least a part of it back, just some sort of accommodation given the circumstances.
We gave them nine months advance notice of the cancellation, we heard nothing back for months. The fact that they were entirely unwilling to consider refunding even a portion of the deposit shows the way they run their business.
They don't care about their clients and are entirely unwilling to be accommodating or understanding.
We paid $5,000 for absolutely no service in return, aside from them "holding the date."
This is not a cancellation under normal circumstances where we would fully understand them having to protect against a loss by declining to return our deposit.
If you are looking for a caterer that cares about their clients and acts with integrity and understanding, this is not the place to go. -
User1701481 Sent on 07/08/2014Used Gavin for rehearsal dinner on Orcas Island but I was very disappointed in the results. He would never contact me directly but would contact the bride who had enough on her plate. The dinner was served almost 2 hours later than planed and food was not very well presented nor was it very good - rositto was a big gooey gob! The menu was changed without notice. Dinner was on Friday but the tent and set up was still there on Sunday with no explanation costing me extra money at the venue. Overall the rehearsal and reception was a BIG disappointment (they started picking up and taking seating while it was still in use well before allotted time)
