Frequently Asked Questions-Weddings Jennifer Louie, Violin and Musicians

When It is the Best Time to Book Musicians?

As soon as you book your ceremony site.  The best musicians can be booked a year ahead.  Fees increase for musicians if the event is less than three months away.  Always get a written contract with a replacement clause to ensure that your musician is booked.

Can I hear my musicians live at an actual wedding or party before booking?

JLVM views musicians as vendors for weddings or special events and therefore we do not "invite" prospective clients to hear us at events that we are not hosting and also to protect the client's privacy.  Performances are complimentary if I am performing for you as a founder.  If there are other musicians involved, we reserve the right to charge a performance fee as their time must be reserved.  References and testimonials are always available upon request.

Why do some musicians list prices on their website and others require email/phone contact?

It depends on the area as well as the musicians.  JLVM prefers to talk to clients about their wedding/other events before writing an estimate to ensure an appropriate fee for the amount of time the event requires.  Also, other competing events (like other brides,  orchestras, and corporate events) and advanced notice may affect pricing.

How many musicians should I hire for a wedding or other special events?

A good rule of thumb is one musician to every 50 guests.  Also, the formality of the event needs to be taken into consideration when hiring musicians.

Can I hire musicians to play for a outdoor wedding?

Yes.  JLVM requires a covered area (no trees) so that their is no instrument damage and an alternate site in case of inclement weather.  Also , we cannot play in temperatures less than 65 degrees F or above 80 degrees F.

Can I tip musicians at a wedding?

Of course! We always appreciate tips.

Please feel free to email us with questions about music and our services.

Thank you.
