About
Greetings brides (and grooms)!

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and for considering me for your wedding photography needs.

I have been involved in photography since I was a kid and have always loved it!  After graduating from The College of Charleston I was at a loss as to what I was going to do with my life.  I decided to persue my passion for photography and started my own business doing pet portraits.  Several years later, my best friend Amy, got married.  I took my camera along and documented the event from the vantage point of a bridesmaid.  Although she had hired a good, local photographer,  Amy liked my images so much that almost all of the wedding photographs she enlarged and displayed were the ones I had taken.
From that point on, I have focused (no pun intended) on documenting weddings.  It is such fun!  I love the excitement and energy of a wedding day.  No two weddings are ever alike and you never know what might happen or what amazing photo oppourtunities might present themselves.  I strive to capture the small details that aren’t usually standard shots for most photographers as well as candid and formal photographs.

I would say that my strengths lie largely in my people skills.  Having worked in the food and beverage industry all through high school and college, I learned how to calmly and politely deal with people under pressure and how to placate and soothe them and find a resolution when they were upset.  This skill has come in handy more times that I can count during the stress of a wedding.  A tearful bride, an angry relative or moody flowergirl can all be standard on the wedding day.  At almost every wedding I shoot, invariably, someone will approach me and comment on my people skills.  I really enjoy what I do and I guess that shows in how I work with people.

Thanks again and congratulations!

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have shot in all types of lighting. I love shooting with available light because it is so flattering to the skin. It can be a bit challenging but the results are worth it!

Is your media preference film or digital?
I shoot in the digital medium.

How many photographers do you work with?
I have one assistant who has been with me for several years.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes. I will attend the rehearsal at the church or wedding venue and be at the wedding and reception.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
No. I limit myself to one event a weekend. Weddings require a lot of energy and I don't think it would be fair to my second couple if I was tired after shooting a wedding earlier that day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, I have several colleagues who can fill in should the need arise.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Two cameras, several lenses, an external flash and a tripod.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes, my assistant and I both bring back-up equipment.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
I have a package which includes a bridal or engagement portrait, attendance at the rehearsal at the church and 5 to 7 hours on the wedding day. I am also available on an hourly basis.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes, I would be happy to shoot overtime. My fee is $175.00 for any portion of an hour.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I will take a breather when the action has slowed, but I rarely put down my camera. The fun part about weddings is never really knowing what might happen next! That's what makes them so much fun to cover.

Do you charge for travel?
Yes, I do. It all depends on how far away the wedding is.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
I will have the images ready in 3 to 6 weeks.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
I offer either 4x6 prints or images on a CD for viewing.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The proofs are for the couple to keep.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
I do retain the rights to the images so I can use them for advertising but I will sign a release form so my brides can make reprints on their own.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes, I do, as long as the bride has no objections.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes, I do.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. I am currently trying to upgrade the way in which I do that.

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer a 200 page 4x6 album for the proofs.

When will the client get the final album?
All I offer right now is the 4x6 album. It will be ready in about 4 to 6 weeks.

Tips and Advice
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Here are some thoughts which might be helpful in your choice of a photographer.  As obvious as it may sound, it is important to choose someone you like and feel comfortable with.  You will be spending a large portion of your wedding day with this person and things will go more smoothly if you are compatible.

If possible,  speak with former clients to see how the photographer handled the stress and chaos of a wedding.  Every time I shoot a wedding, so many people remark upon how personable and easy-going I am it leads me to think that there are many pushy, unkind people out there shooting weddings (I am mostly joking about that, but it has made me wonder)!  There are too many excellent (and kind) photographers in the world to hire someone who is going to add to the stress of your wedding.

If you feel you can’t afford to hire a professional photographer you might try looking at area universities which have a photography department or program.  They will be much more affordable although less experienced.  I would recommend going this route rather than having a relative (or friend) do the photography (unless he/she is a professional).

I hope these ideas are helpful in your wedding planning!!
