19 Jun, 2021The story of our wedding
After postponing over a year due to covid, we finally got married in our neighborhood’s clubhouse in June. The details in the stationary, food, and bright colors reflected our heritage. The same fabric, with a pattern typical in the native dress of Peru and Mexico, was used in the bouquet, boutonnière, and the table runners, which my mother made and were later given as gifts to the families present. My sister officiated the intimate ceremony where our daughters, the flower girls, read poems and shared what “love” meant to each of them. Guests enjoyed the diverse Peruvian cuisine during the cocktail hour while Rodrigo and I, along with our daughters, took portraits along the beautiful lakes and lush gardens of the venue. Our niece adapted the lyrics of “the story” which she sang for our first dance. Dinner and dancing followed, and the end of night “Hora Loca,” or crazy hour, typical in Latin weddings, boasted light up props, a stilt walker, and famous large head characters to keep the party going. After hours of dancing, guests enjoyed a late night treat of chilaquiles before heading home.
