9 Jun, 2024The story of our wedding
We got engaged in June 2022, overlooking the tile roofs of Lisbon, Portugal. We weren't in a rush to start planning a wedding after our engagement and decided to set a date for 2024 in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. After reaching out to several venues, we were shown a concept photo of a new venue at Acre Resort, and we knew we had to see it.
When we got there, it was still under construction, but we immediately fell in love with it! We loved the desert environment, the natural muted tones of the venue structures, and the natural florals grown throughout the space. We wanted to keep everything simple but beautiful, like minimal florals inspired by Japanese ikebana and minimalistic dinnerware to focus attention on the incredible food.
One of our favorite parts of the reception was having small postcard-sized place cards for guest names that we blind embossed with our initials, stamped with the Chinese double happiness character from a hand-carved stamp made in San Francisco's Chinatown, and wrote individual messages to each of our 110 guests - all by hand! It took us several days to complete, but the number of people who came up to us during the reception and after to tell us how much it meant to them was worth every minute of work.

About halfway into the song, the slideshow stopped on an engagement photo as we walked out to the dance floor to finish out the song with our first dance.
Of course, the heart of the whole day was the ceremony itself. We were so honored to have our friend officiate our wedding as she was the one who introduced us. We each memorized our vows and even had a little humorous commentary from our nephew.
The weather that day could not have been more perfect as it was cool and overcast for the bridesmaids, mothers, and bride to get ready in the on-site bridal suite. Then, almost as if we had planned it, the sun came out for the guests to arrive for their welcome drinks. And our amazing planner had us start just at the right time, near sunset, with beautiful golden lighting and the cactus and desert flowers surrounding us.
