7 Mar, 2020The story of our wedding
Our journey began when Owen got down on one knee in front of Cinderellas castle in Walt Disney World. The interesting part of this day was that Owen left the ring all the way in Kentucky. He grabbed the wrong ring box. It was hard to keep anything a secret so in a panic of being caught with it, he grabbed the wrong box from the safe. The night before the proposal, Owen and his sister checked the box to find it empty. He decided to propose with a ring pop but it was just as special and meaningful (Johnna was given the ring once they arrived home).
The best decision made in the whole wedding planning process was having a central location. We had always pictured our wedding at a hotel. It was invisioned this way for the simple fact of wanting our family and friends, no matter how far away, been given the oppurtunity to celebrate with us. So our plan was to make sure everything was in one place. Our Ceremony (on the second floor), our reception (on the first floor) and a place for everyone to crash after a night of festivities. The Hyatt Regency in downtown Lexington was perfect. It had the downtown city feeling that we dreamed of for our wedding. With Kentucky Basketball Rupp Arena connected, it was a very happening place at all times.
Continue reading »Our wedding was a bit untraditional. The ceremony was short and sweet, officiated by the best man of the wedding. On the brides side was a Man of Honor instead of the traditional Maid or Matron of honor. The ceremony included an acoustic guitar, the story of how they first met, a sand ceremony, and some tearful handwritten vows. The vows will forever be the best part of the whole day ( even typing out part of Owens vows to hang in our home).
When it comes to Johnna's wedding day look she went with a Hayley Paige Ballgown. Her goal was lots of bling and a dramatic skirt. With the help of her hair and makeup artist, they settled on some big "old hollywood" waves and some bold red lipstick.
Our wedding color scheme included forrest green, black and silver. We wanted somewhat of a dark but elegant look in the ballrooms. Also, Johnna was particularly obsessed with having silver glitter in most of the decor. We wanted exclusivley white flowers with some greens included. The favors included a mix CD of all the important music from the wedding and playing cards with their names and the date.
With family from all over, our wedding reception was one big party. Equiped with an open bar, amazing DJ and even some karaoke. We served buffett style and instead of the traditional cake we did hundreds of donuts! We had a cake that fed about 12 people just for us to cut as well as a grooms deadpool cake (which was a suprise to Owen). We also had a signature cocktail which was our play on a Moscow Mule. One of the best parts of our reception was the Soul Train dance our DJ set up specially for us. Basically our whole guest list and wedding party danced down the line and it made for an epic time and video!
Now 40+ days married and looking back on our photos, it was truely the best day of our lives. We had amazing vendors, friends and family that made it so special.
