23 Oct, 2020The story of our wedding
Though our dream for an elopement in Greece was foiled by the COVID-19 pandemic, our Plan B at the Griffin House in the lovely Oregon Gorge surpassed all of our expectations. The Griffin House Venue was once a family home that was converted by the owner's daughter and son into a wedding and event venue. The location boasts gorgeous view of the Columbia Gorge and the home used for the wedding preparation is a beautiful vintage chic. We had a very small ceremony with only our closest friends and family in attendance. Soon after, our other guests arrived for cocktail hour. In total, we had 45 guests including all family and wedding party. Some of the greatest highlights from the day include the bride + father first look, where the bride gifted her father an embroidered handkerchief. Another memorable moment was when the father of the groom placed the family heirloom bracelet on his daughter-to-be's wrist. The bracelet has been worn by all brides of the Giacomini family for 3 generations. As we neared the ceremony, the wind began to pick up. Our photographer captured some amazing photos of the wind that tossed around the bride's 12 foot veil like confetti. At one point, the veil actually got caught in a small bush just behind the bride. The bride's maid of honor had to stand up and up tangle it from the plant as the force began to undo the bride's hair. Instead of disastrous, it was a moment of humor as everyone at the ceremony laughed lovingly together. The newlyweds chose an untraditional first dance set to Fleetwood Mac's Landslide, that encompassed the father-daughter dance, the mother-son dance and the bride-groom's first dance. Dinner and toasts went over without a hitch and the night was then consumed by dancing and socializing (Note: all social distancing rules were broken during this time). The night ended with the last song, American Pie by Don McLean. This is the groom's family song and is always sung loudly and lovingly by all members of the tribe. After a group hug, the bride and groom exited the wedding through a veil of bubbles and best wishes.
