23 May, 2019The story of our wedding
I always knew I wanted a beach wedding, but I thought it was probably too expensive so I tried to plan it in Asheville, NC where I lived at the time. Asheville is gorgeous with the blue ridge mountains, but because of tourism and so many people moving there, it's super expensive just to live there. I knew I wanted something small and not too stressful so I thought I would just have our main family members and a couple friends. It ended up only being 20 people including my husband and I. Also his mom, dad, and 2 sisters are the only ones that live in AVL so that meant everyone would have to travel in order to be here which also meant expensive hotel costs. I really hate dealing with those factors myself so I was trying to find a cost effective way, but like I said, this town just doesn't allow for it. I had people coming all the way from CA, OH, VA, and FL. One day my sister in law could tell I was frustrated and asked what I really want for this and I said "Well I always wanted the beach and I love the outerbanks, I wish we could just rent a house and all have a good time at low costs". So she motivated me to start really looking into it. We found a 12 bedroom 14 bath house for the cost of everyone paying $533 for each bedroom. It would have cost them $633, but I paid for $100 since we were going to have the reception and ceremony there as well. I mean for the same price you would spend visiting Asheville you would maybe get 2-3 nights out of that as a guest, but this you get a whole week oceanfront with a huge kitchen, a hottub, 2 game rooms, theater room, and a pool. So everyone decided they were down and we hired Tony Joseph (idoobxweddings) as our officiant, Jonathan Pillow Photography, Patty Bakes, Black Pelican Catering, and Tony Joseph's florist. The were all recommended by Tony Joseph so they all knew eachother which made it so much easier to communicate with all of them. All of these vendors were high quality for better costs than I would find in Asheville. All 20 people loved this experience so much, we are going to recreate it next year except we are not having a wedding, just the vacation part. This wedding was simple and reconnected people who are so far apart. O ya and also as I was planning for the color scheme, I was thinking about the little mermaid the whole time because well obviously I have red hair and THE BEACH :) My colors were teal/turquoise, blue, gold, charcoal gray, and tangerine.
